Using cf root you still can get updates through kies but applying an update will lose root so you will have to reroot after every update. OTAs although cf root does say its compatible they have failed for ppl so i wouldnt recommend updating your phone through OTA with cf root.
But if your a regular visitor to xda you can always apply the latest firmwares though ODIN as they become available and not worry about kies or OTA

Can I update System OS after Rooting?

Just rooted my N7 and when I rebooted, I got a message "System Update Available". If I update the system, will I lose root?
Try it and let us know.
from my experience with updating previous device after roooting, you will loose root after the udpate but you can still root again.

But then if I have to root again, I go back to the original OS version, right? So seems like a waste of time?

Rooting and unlocking the bootloader are not the same things. Flash su.zip to root.
If it is an ota update...go in superuser user app and check ota survival and ur root may survive the update

Hi,
An OTA would unroot your phone anyway.
So you would have to re-root after you updated.

You Can Download the Latest Firmware Flash It Using ODIN and Then Root Ur Phone Again.
Thats the Best Way to Do it.
In Case If you just Need OTA then Factory reset Your Phone and You would get the Official Status Back

Hi,
You need to flash a stock ROM ,stock recovery ,then run Triangle Away from the market (if you were returning for warranty)
This will return your counter to 0.
It is all explained HERE
You should then be able to receive OTA

I need some help here - Just 5 min

Hello all, i just bought my Samsung Galaxy S4 (i9505) and i am instersting in rooting it just to remove all unnecessary apps and generaly have the control of my apps.. But i dont want to load any ROM.. I want to keep taking updates from Samsung..

Cf-auto root, and reset device status to offical by triangle away in order to receive OTA, but you can just use odin to flash any firmware for update

Ota make sense if you are in region where ota first hit updates. For me it tames few weeks for official updates come to my carrier. Custom rom is great thing . In most cases you will see new updates here before ota hit your region

First update your phone to the latest version, then Root it via Odin or .zip in custom recovery

Hello I'm currently running xxudmh8 and rried to use cfauto root via odin. Found to be a big mistake as everytime I try to access super SU it says no hinary installed. Also states my device status is custom but I can't do anything "root" I also keep getting a message "super su has been forced to stop. When I click the notification its a samsung security update that I cant apply" anyone any ideas I have tried installing the previous stock rom but it soft brick mybdevice I guess the xxudmh8 has a lot of blocking for write and root
Please any help apreciated

Bump I need to either revive my attempted root I'd possible???

xxudmh8 is using a new locked bootloader for KNOX implementation. Have you use the latest CF-autoroot by Chainfire?
If the SuperSU version is not v1.60 or higher then you may need to reroot your phone using the latest CF autoroot:
http://download.chainfire.eu/316/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-jflte-jfltexx-gti9505.zip
Latest version of SuperSU is v1.65, probably you can try to update from Google Play or download the flashable zip file from:
http://download.chainfire.eu/351/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.65.zip
If I download and reflash xxudmh8 via odin from sammobile will it remove my root?

You may reflash XXUDMH8 via odin, after that root will be removed. You can root again using latest CF-Autoroot.
Do full factory reset before and after flashing to avoid unexpected problem.
If I root can I then go back to previous firmware or does the new one stop you from doing this??

I'm just going to reply to tell you to stop bumping your thread after such miserable amounts of time. I hope you got excited that there was a reply, and I also hope that you were bitterly disappointed. This isn't a 'fix ma problem' board, and the least you can do is wait it out for a reply. :banghead:
