[Q] Swap Ram - Help me please!I need answer fast! - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 and Duos 6102 Q&A, Help & Troubl

Hi guys! Yesterday i wanted to make swap ram and i followed this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26220059 Thanks @CarlDeanCatabay for tutorial.Today at school i was excited to make swap ram LOL because i can run more processes.I have sdcard 2GB and i dont have a card reader..... and use repencis kernel from repencis v3.5 rom not new repencis and i used CWM.So,i followed this steps at school:
1.I go to CWM.
2.Go to Advanced, then partition sd card then i choosed 256 for ext size and 256 for swap size. Before do this i had circa 282 mb free on sdcard and already had ext for link2sd.
3.Rebooted and my sdcard was formated and losed all things and now i have 1.39 GB free.
4.When i open terminal emulator and type su then type free i see numbers on swap(is not 0).
Check attached screenshots.
Tell me if i do something wrong!
Now my questions are:
1.I proceeded correctly when i choosed 256 mb for ext size and 256 mb for swap in CWM?
2.My ext3 partition before created other partition for swap was affected?
3.I see numbers on swap in terminal emulator after type free. How i know if swap ram work properly?
Sorry if are noob questions, but everyone was noob before learn and sorry if my english is bad Please help me!

Nobody cant help me????????sry for double post.

Swap is recommended if you have sd card of class 10 or higher if not it will ultimately slow down your phone rather than increasing its speed that's why I have never tried it and don't even know about it but from your ss it looks like swap is working

Apps2sd on htc hero g2

hi there
hope u people are fine...
my question is what is the max size we can keep on ext. partition on sd card
i have 8 gb card
currently i have 512 mb on my ext partition but still whenever i install more apps it give error memory is very less and phone works very slow it is always aroung 54- 72 mb only to before starting any app or game i have click on task killer
is there any solution to this...
or any rom which can solve this isssue currently running 1.5 froydvillain
because of this issue i have started hating my hero
please let me know any solution to this
Simple solution back up ur EXT - partition & format it. Otherwise Download Quick system info App from the market & Check your App2sd is working correctly or not ..
thanks for your reply
what should be the size of ext3 partion if i have 8 gb memory card ???
512 mb or more
i think it doesn't matter you can make 512 or 1024 Mb also .. but just too not sure
the size of the ext-partition should not be the problem...
format your sdcard (back it up first)
and be sure to create an ext2 partition just to be on the safe side
some kernels do not support ext3+
(not sure if ninpo's kernel does)

Should support it, but use EXT2 to save the life of your SD card

Help setting a swap file on the swiftdroid v2 2.3.4 cyangenmod 7 rc0 rom

I'm on swiftdroid v2 2.3.4 cyangenmod 7 rc0 rom
I've got swapper and it creates a 500mb swap file but when I check terminal with the free command it says swap 0 and the same with setcpu. I want to play dungeon defenders but can't set swap can someone help please or point me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance

How could u create 500 Mb file with Swapper? The maximum size is 256 MB. Which version are u using, just Swapper or Swapper 2?
No need to use swapper with swiftdroid v2 2.3.4 cyangenmod 7 rc0 rom, just create swap partition on your sdcard (you can use recovery (before that copy all from sdcard to pc)). After boot swap will be in use.
i did that too, created 256mb ext3 and ~36mb swap partition in clockwork mod once, but after my phone got veeeery slow and laggy, so i deleted swap and everything was fine. any idea what was possibly wrong?
try to set smoller swapines.
Why did you create another Swap partition on SD card? Reformat your SD card without any Swap partition. The Swap file created by Swapper2 is enough for it.
Another reason might be, your SD card needs to be of Class 4 or 6 to give you best performance. Slower the SD card, slower is your performance.
With swap partition there is no problem with mounting sdcard... ok, ok, you can use mount/unmount swap in swapper 2 options but that sometime dont work very well.

[Tutorial] How to setup a2sd in SGA S5830?

[Tutorial] How to setup a2sd in SGA S5830?
I am not responsible for anything you choose to do.
Prerequisites:
1. EXT4 partition on microSD Card
2. A2SD zip installer
3. CWM4 Recovery
4. Root/SuperUser
5. Terminal Emulator or A2SDGUI
DO NOT TYPE "" THEY ARE ONLY THERE TO SHOW WHAT TO TYPE.
* Make sure SD card is formatted with ext 4
* Open android market and download terminal emulator
* Open terminal emulator
* Type "su" then press enter and grant root access if keyboard is gone press and hold menu then type "a2sd install" and press enter now there will be stuff going on do not exit or do anything on phone until it reboots.
* After rebooted open terminal again. type su then enter now type "a2sd check" then enter now scroll back up in terminal and look for apps on the right of the screen once you see that look to the left and look and make sure it say programs run from sd card and there is [ ] next to it not [ ... ] (... are there to show space) also check your storage and see if it decrease this is another way you can tell if it worked. Titanium backup is great for checking your storage and backing up apps.
* Now type "a2sd zipalign" after you type this you will see some words fly up the screen just wait till it stops and last line says setting file system ready property to 1. the next line will be #
* Check your storage you should see a decrease. if you want it to decrease more open terminal emulator and type "su" press enter then type "a2sd cachesd" press enter wait for reboot
* This is an optional step. this will sometimes help with speed. Now type "a2sd heapsize64" press enter and wait for reboot.
* After reboot now check storage again and it should have dropped again. once you have done all this your phone will be running on your sd card and its internal memory so when sd card is mounted to pc your phone maybe a little slow. also boots will take a few seconds longer with dalvik moved to sd. now with your apps running from sd your apps will automatically be installed there so its set it and forget it.
* If you change roms and you want a2sd+ make sure the rom supports it and you will have to set it up again but after your sd card has been partitioned once if you never format it back to only one partition you will not need to repartition it like in step 2 but you can follow step one and see if your sd card is formatted correctly.
Thanks to user kryptico of forums.miui.us for making this guide.
Activate Swap partition:
su
a2sd reswap

su
a2sd noswap
Other Swap Scripts:

a2sd swappyXX - Assign swap percentage (e.g. swap 10%, then enter swappy10)
If someone want to revert to default settings, then use below commands.
Revert Apps to Internal Memory:
su
a2sd remove
Revert Cache to Internal Memory:
su
a2sd cachesdreset
Revert Zipalign:

It's clear that nexusace have a2sd darktremor enabled by default. And I think the tutorial on the original nexusace thread is clear enough.
But probably this thread is useful for newbie.
Yes fla.sh, I created this thread for newbies... So that they can easily use a2sd.
Below are my SGA memory details as per Titanium Backup:

Are you using linux?
If you have ubuntu, download gparted:
sudo apt-get install gparted
Open it by going "System>Admin>Gparted", then go "File>Devices" and pick /dev/sdb
Then, format fat32 to ext3/4

Do google search for Minitool Parition and search the same in XDA forum or you can use the below mentioned linux way which considered as lot risky.

[Q] How to Partition 8 GB microSD 4x for Rooted Stock Wildfire?

I have a rooted HTC Wildfire 2.2 with a new 8GB microSD Class 4. I'd like to correctly partition my SDCard so that I can install all applications on SDCard and not Phone Memory.
1- What I need is to help me setting up perfect sizes for SWAP & Ext3 (Perfect matches HTC Wildfire and 8 GB Card).
2- Can I install the stock 2.2.1 ROM over the SDCard?
3- Will all Apps got installed on SDCard after partitioning instead of Phone Memory leaving it empty?
Thank you
nice post i would like to know too!
Try rommanager, chose partition your sd,(instal old clockwork mod like 2.xx, becoz new ones make ext4, which is not compatable with some roms,)choose the greatest avilable size for ext and swap(it may be enough, if u r not app greedy, i had done so, so far i have 50+app installed), reboot-partition-done, the best trouble free way!

Thanks for your reply but I don't want to end up my device because some people reported issues with partitioning part of internal phone memory due to some ROM Manager Partition Manager errors. I'll use a PC client to partition the card.
Rom manager works fine. I've done it a few times. The people having problems probably shouldn't have bought an android phone...... besides if something goes wrong odds are it won't just redo the partition again.
And make sure you backup your SD card before partitioning it.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
Use recovery (= rom manager) to partition first. If that gives any issues then use "gparted live cd" to partition sdcard. U need to download gparted_live_cd_ISOimage and burn it to a cd. Then using pc u need to boot from live cd to partition sdcard. Here be careful not to format ur pc hard drive.
The partitioning sizes I recommend are 512MB ext , 32MB swap and remaining fat. If that is not sufficient u can choose 1024 MB, 64MB.
If u r using gparted then first create extended partition as fat corresponding to its memory. Then create ext and swap. At last format all those partitions.

Dude, i have done it several times, so far got no issues, and it is the simplest way.

omg wow
so i have conflicting information from this thread and this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19927720#post19927720 on whether or not i am able to create an sdext partition on a factory rom, which i have come to the conclusion that you may be able to, but would you be able to put that partition to use and have apps installed and read from there. please be more specific, i have an LG Opt T running 2.3.3 btw
thanks for any input
I used gParted. It's free. You can find it by fecking googling download and burn to a CD. Then boot it on your PC. Linux will show up. Open gParted from desktop and size your ext and format.
I made 1 GB ext4 and 64 MB Swap. 1 GB is too much for ext since I can't use more than 100 MB. 512 is ok. I read somewhere that Swap isn't used anymore but 64 MB isn't a thing in 8000.
It doesn't matter if its ext3 or 4 since you can flash DT's A2SD to any ROM.
The apps you moved to SD before are not in ext partition. They will stay in FAT partition. To move them to ext, simply move them to phone (after DT's A2SD phone means ext part.

Hey man,
I had the same problem a while ago:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1253270&page=2
In the second to last post I finally managed to get it to work. (Just to be clear, I used the darktremor script, but not the app, for the app is use S2E and to visualise my usage i use "freespace", but work like a charm ! )
Hope it helps

very low internal memory - american android 2.3.7 MAGDLR NAND

I have american android NAND MAGLDR installed in my HD2. But I have one problem with low internal memory.
Briefly: I have very low internal memory. About 50 MB only despite the fact that I have moved all my downloaded market apps onto my SD card. Preinstalled Android apps like MAPS, facebook and so on Im not able to move to my SD card. But there are still updates of this apps and Im afraid of that there will not be any free space for them in the while because 50 MB is really very little.
is there any option how to solve this problem?

Search in the american android thread about data2sd script or an a2sd+ script, when you get there, there should bin instructions on how to install it, as it varies for different roms.

I made ext3 partition cca 800 MB and swap partition cca 133 MB on my SD card by using MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition.
Then I have put my SD card into HD2 and by using MAGLDR I have installed american android 2.3.7 NAND.
But problem is it shows that my internal memory is still the same (as was before I made ext3 partition 218 MB total and 159 MB free)
I believed that when I create ext3 partition it will increase my internal memory. But it did only that some space from my SD card disappeared.
Could somebody explain me why is that, what did I wrong ?

Depending on the script you are using, internal memory wont show an increase. If you want to see if its working use titanium backup. The reason for this is different scripts use different symlinks and linked directories.

titanium backup dont show me anything like ext3 partition
I have no idea what I did wrong .. I did it in accordance with instructions witch was written in american android FAQ
could somebody tell me please how could I use a ext3 SD partition in american android 2.3.7 NAND? Im working on it 60 hours and I dont know what I do wrong because my android is not able to mount that partition:
here is what I did:
1. operating system wm 6,5 HTC HD2
2. flash MAGLDR 1.13 and choosed option 5. flash USB
3. run american android setup (ACA setup exe) and installed it
4. took my SD card 4GB and by using minitools partition wizard i created:
- HD2 partition, primary, FAT 32, cluster 32k
- sd-ext partion, primary, ext3, 800 MB
- linux swap, primary, 128 MB
5. then I insert SD card into HTC HD2 and restart
6. android, titanium backup, android commander are not able to detect any ext3 partition
7. Link2SD was able to detect this partition and install apps in there but when I restarted my phone all apps installed in sd2 partition just disappeared. So now link2sd just shows there is something on sd2 partition but Im not able to see it nor use it
could somebody tell me what I did wrong ?
How could I run data2sd script or a2sd+ script on american android rom ? (I have looking for it on the thread but I didnt find instructions)
or tell me another option how to free internal memory of phone for american android 2.3.7 NAND CM7,2
