Not sure if you are asking for a pen only setting, but if you are then it already has this in S Note. Click on the pen icon (far upper right ) when you have a note open. This enables pen only, if you don't click this then you can use pen and/or finger. Hope this helps as your post was a bit confusing
I think the OP might mean a system wide setting?

Maybe this is old news to many, but I just discovered that when the s-pen is near the screen (but not touching), there's a mouse-over effect. Cool!!

Yes old.
There's an option to activate a graphical pointer while over it

It is. Very useful in the browser, too.
For me I don't like the pointer option(in papyrus app for exemple) , to remove it :
\system\usr\idc\sec_e-pen.idc
Enable touch.deviceType = pointer
Disable touch.deviceType = touchScreen
Reboot after change

I'd assume that this will not work that well with a screen protector over it?

So mine is not working ...
This effect is somewhat similar to Xperia Sola the floating touch thing. Developers should take this effect even forward and try make scrolling possible while hovering over the screen with the stylus button pressed it'll be awesome
How To Enable the Pointer
pls how do i enable the Hovering pointer?

system settings > pen settings > Hovering pen icon.
I found it very useful for S Memo and other painting apps. I discover this option even when first ICS leak comes out.
+1 for the scroll option
In ics there an option to show pointer even for touch with fingers, its in developers option section in settings,

is it possible to calibrate the s pen? whenever i sketch or click on a spot, it doesn't reflect the exact point i clicked, instead its a few pixels downwards or right. and this is affecting my work or navigation.
and also how do i enable the pointer on the screen.thanks

Hi, as I have learnt, no method will calibrate my spen, but people have said two things may work. One is to move the spen off each corner of the screen. Two is to change from left hand to right hand in the spen dominant hand settings.
The hovering pen is only available on ICS and can be found this way: settings>pen settings>on screen pen indicator or hovering pen or something of those sorts.
Hope that helps

You could try this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS52aXRhbC50c3QubjcwMDAiXQ..
Although it is initially free you will have to pay to get the full features. As a free app any tuning you do will be erased after you lock the screen. The paid version allows for permanent changes, though I have not used the full version to verify this.

You have to be rooted for it to work and it's great on Samsung roms. It's not so useful on CM9 and roms based on CM9 as there's a bug (?) In the way they handle rotation profiles.
The app itself is great and the writer is very friendly and helpful.

For the people that have the problem with the screen zooming while resting their hand on the screen try putting the pen close to screen before placing your hand on the sceen. Hope this helps people.

Or just switch to lecture notes, and set the settings to work with you, because there are plenty of settings to customize to work your your particular writing style. Only issue is the jagged writing at times.
But thanks for the tip I still use snotes for the formula writing and stuff

This bothered me for a long time, thanks.
When I use the S-Note program, and I create a new note I am having an issue. Let's say I start off with a blank note and I write the date and my name in it. When I tap on the + symbol to create a new page, nothing happens. So my real question is, how do I add another pag to an existing note. I really love this tablet. I upgraded from a Thinkpad Tablet which also had a pen. Nice tab, but this one is superior in so many ways. Now if only I could figure out S-Note.

Bottom right for new page... 1/1 should change to 2/2 etc.
See ss.

Well, dafuq? Now it starts working. I tried both pen and finger before. Other than making the icon light up, nothing happened. Now I go through the process of taking a SS and editing it, uploading it and so on. And now S-Note decides to behave?? Ok. Weird, but ok.

Ok so after the JB update I cant seem to save my own custom pens or access the productivity tools. Are those available in every template?
Also, even though I have told S-Note to ignore finger/hand input, when I rest my palm on the screen it zooms in. So um yeah.
I really miss pen only mode that my Thinkpad Tablet had. Is that even an option? I've dug around in the system settings for the S-Pen and I was unable to find anything like that.

Ok ok I figured it out.
It's the template.
I can do formulas and shape matching in the note template, but not in the memo template. Which is oddbecause I would think grap paper would be better suited for match and stuff like that than a yellow legal pad.

You can change the background of any note by tapping on the note Settings in the upper right corner and selecting change background. You can even import another image to use as a background. I just have not found where you can save the imported image as a new background template.

If you do please let us know how. A lot of people have been looking for a way to do that for quite a while. For awhile it seemed the S-note update may have that ability but it doesn't seem to.
Is there an app that will convert s pen wiring into typed words so they a list would be more organized etc? Kinda like how it'll turn action notes into things but turn them into actual lists? It would make shopping/daily lists so much easier lol

The stock Samsung keyboard can supposedly do that. I don't use it myself so I haven't tried it out.
hopefully I understand your question . S Note can transform your handwriting to text. once you've written it just change the mode to the dotted cloud encircle your handwriting and then transform.
