Thought it might be useful to start a thread for alternatives to the s-memo app. Currently its the main reason I put up with Touchwiz a cant seem to find an app as nice looking and as responsive as s-memo in the market

I flick between s-memo
FreeNote ( https://market.android.com/details?...wsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5zdWlzaG91eGllLmZyZWVub3RlIl0. )
Evernote
and OneNote
What I really REALLY want is s-memo or whatever I use to sync back to me "Notes" in my Exchange Outlook account :-(
Extensive was buggy on aosp ics. Super note is good if u find apk

supernote wasnt bad... but unless your on a smaller dpi it never scaled right for me.
Ive tried almost every app I could find and none of them just seem to have the responsiveness of the smemo app for handwriting

Anti paper is pretty good if on ICS

I find that Soonr Scribble seems to have better pressure sensitivity than most other apps. The automatic cloud sync is a huge plus. I lose my S Memo notes with every flash...
iAnnotate is also pretty good. maybe not for quick notes though.

Anti paper seems nice for actual hand writing notes. Doesn't have picture or video ability which sucks . Man I wish smemo didn't need tw framework to work or u could just grab apk...

Evernote's skitch is pretty good too.
LectureNotes
Tried Quill, Antipaper and Writepad stylus when I tried ICS... (the non-chinese awful version) Quill was the best of those. However, I didn't notice LectureNotes, which seems even better than Quill! ICS time!
Free note seems nice . And I think its note everything?
Sent from my Ice Creamy Galaxy NOTE
lecture notes does look interesting I'll download it and report back.... So far Ive tried everything mentioned above and always found them underwhelming.
Update: This is definately a replacement, UI is pretty dam clean, responsiveness is good (still think s-memo has an edge here) and for what I want to be able to do it has all the right settings (changing ruler spacing), the biggest one is disabling finger input on the s-pen writing area... the pro version seems to have quite a few more options than the trial.
Definitely worth a look and download
Although I haven't tried it Whiteboard Pro is available on the Amazon appstore today (Feb 27) for free so I grabbed a copy
http://www.amazon.com/mobile-apps/b?ie=UTF8&node=2350149011
Lecture notes has been updated to support hardware emulation of the wacom stylus (at least on my ICS rom). I would encourage everyone to check it out, a ton of options to customize the experience for your needs (custom pens, paper line spacing etc.).
I vote for Freenote for writing notes.
ps. I'd suggest Sketchbook mobile for drawing.

Freenote is nice for actually hand writing notes in a note book style fashion. Otherwise its to confusing and a cluster **** and i don't like it.
Seems like note everything is a good free and paid replacement ...

Hmm, lecturesnotes is not available for my device...
Tried in multiple dpi 160,200,320. On Imilka aosp rom. Anyone successfully with it? What roms?
rocket 1.5 ICS works fine. there shoild be a trial and a paid version in the market

I was looking for something better for taking notes with my note... Lecture notes definitely takes the cake. I was trying free not but it was not responsive enough for me and as intuitive. Lecture notes looks to be a winner.
Users of CM9-based ROMs -- what are you using to replace the functionality of S Memo, etc?
Quill, LectureNotes, Sketchbook, etc.
There's plenty of alternatives.

Do they have as good of a brush and colour selection as Samsung's apps? And what about pressure sensitivity? Pressure sensitivity is GREAT for writing Kanji.
i am very interested in this topic as well , would be great if people who tried alternative apps indicate the pros/cons and compatibility with cm9
i would love to see palm reject in cm

What are you using that has the same pressure sensitivity, organizational abilities, cloud sync abilities, and intent support (i.e. exporting/importing to/from pictures, etc.) as S Memo?
I ask because I'd really like to give a CM9 ROM a try but need to know I'll have the pen support I've come to depend on.

I wasn't aware that S-Memo supported cloud sync, it's not a feature I have any interest in using.
Lecturenotes will upload to an Evernote account and will import existing images.
Just search on the market for "stylus" and see what pops up.
Jotter
Writepad
Quill
Skitch
LectureNotes
SketchBook Mobile
Samsung S-Memo (No idea if this version would work on CM9, it's not available to my country)
Omnisketch
If you heavily rely on the native Samsung apps though, then I'd not recommend switching to CM9.
Unfortunately some of the "stylus" search results are designed for "fake styluses" on tablets.
True. The ones I've listed are ones that work properly with the Note stylus. (Or did when I tried them anyway). They mostly support pressure sensitivy when it's useful for them to do so. Palm-detection is pretty hit & miss.
I think Skitch is about the only "generic" input app in the list.
I'm not aware of anything that replicates _all_ of the functionality that the native Samsung apps do (particularly the versions in the ICS release), but as I mainly just want to use the device instead of carting around a pen+paper to make quick notes, or draw (very poor) pictures when I'm idling, the alternatives work fine for me.
Edit: Dame it, it's not ics compatible

After trying most of the list, my favourite is LectureNotes... It seems to have the best sketching features, reasonable import/export and pretty much suits my needs to the extent that I would choose it over s- memo
But that is just my opinion... Try a bunch out and see what works for you

maybe because the Korean version is already released, it has a newer version witch supports this feature, and the intl' will also support it.
but its not based on anything.. only me :cyclops:
I also think that the craftsmen will find a way)
That will be really disappointing if its only on the Korean Note 2.
After watching the videos of it yesterday I was definitely going to purchase the Galaxy Note 2 on launch day in the UK. But if its not a supported feature in the EU/N7100 models then I think I will hold off.
The multiscreen feature is also available in hong kong's note 2, which is an international version.

This looks awesome. However when I was watching it I was thinking "Sweet!!! I can finally answer texts while browsing the internet!" But after looking at the apps in the side bar I didn't see sms in there. So I wonder what apps will be supported in this feature and if it will be possible to incorporate mods to get other apps to work.
That's an awesome feature. Hopefully the international version also has this.
But if it doesn't has, i still go for the Note II

Sms is present as an option. in the first video, i can see the sms icon below the gallery icon. Samsung should be highlighting that feature because it brings a desktop like view to the note. Definitely ordering now. was going to wait to see the new nexus and features of the next version of Android, but this just sealed the decision.

My mistake, I'm using 'ultimate rotation control'.
It works great on my galaxy note 1.
One of the big reasons I'm using it is it allows 180 degree rotation so I'm not always hitting the capacitive buttons.

That is an amazing feature but of all the Note 2 videos I have seen, it's the first one I have seen that has that (half-circular) tab on the left side of the screen. Looks like it's brought up by holding the 'back button'. I wonder if its just that no one knows about this 'shortcut' to open this feature. Or could this be an updated version of TouchWiz we are seeing?
I think you can enable the multi-window from the settings, because it make sense that not everybody want to have the half circle on left border by default.
Lets hope it is available in the international version
So are we saying that stock launcher on note 2 doesnt rotate landscape??

When I use the S-Note program, and I create a new note I am having an issue. Let's say I start off with a blank note and I write the date and my name in it. When I tap on the + symbol to create a new page, nothing happens. So my real question is, how do I add another pag to an existing note. I really love this tablet. I upgraded from a Thinkpad Tablet which also had a pen. Nice tab, but this one is superior in so many ways. Now if only I could figure out S-Note.

Well, dafuq? Now it starts working. I tried both pen and finger before. Other than making the icon light up, nothing happened. Now I go through the process of taking a SS and editing it, uploading it and so on. And now S-Note decides to behave?? Ok. Weird, but ok.

Ok so after the JB update I cant seem to save my own custom pens or access the productivity tools. Are those available in every template?
Also, even though I have told S-Note to ignore finger/hand input, when I rest my palm on the screen it zooms in. So um yeah.
I really miss pen only mode that my Thinkpad Tablet had. Is that even an option? I've dug around in the system settings for the S-Pen and I was unable to find anything like that.

Ok ok I figured it out.
It's the template.
I can do formulas and shape matching in the note template, but not in the memo template. Which is oddbecause I would think grap paper would be better suited for match and stuff like that than a yellow legal pad.

You can change the background of any note by tapping on the note Settings in the upper right corner and selecting change background. You can even import another image to use as a background. I just have not found where you can save the imported image as a new background template.

If you do please let us know how. A lot of people have been looking for a way to do that for quite a while. For awhile it seemed the S-note update may have that ability but it doesn't seem to.
Hey everyone!
This phone is awesome but it has IMHO a small fallback which is the lack of some true multitasking capabilities.
What I mean is although we have Qslide it is most probably useless if we can't run any app in it.
Just like Galaxy Note series have the Multiwindow manager app or Spwn window app that allows just any app to run in this mode, we should have this on our G2 with Qslide.
It will be awesome. Just imagine you are playing a game and you get whatsapp so you check it on the go and continue playing. Or browsing the web and you check the gmail you just got without leaving the browser.
BTW that's what I do with Halo on Paranoid android on my Nexus 4. However it's a waste to dumb the awesome stock Rom of the G2 to just get this advantage.
Please devs consider this as a serious and urgent request. I know many want this.
Hope I was a dev, I would have helped but I am willing to test.
Thanks and regards!

Well looks like I was wrong! It looks like nobody wants this feature!
But what is bugging me is that with over 60 views, I didn't get any "+1" or "agreed" replies, or even "no need" or "STFU" replies or any kind of reply.
Have a nice day everyone!
+1. Nice to have Whatsup on the top and scrolling through news for example. Nice feature to get. I am sure someday we can get it. ))
It's probably just a matter of the apps being built for it, and tricking the Qslide into letting you use non LG apps for it.
The Devs did it fairly quickly on my Galaxy Note 10.1
I'm afraid it's not THAT easy for us as it was on the note. I had it on my note 10.1 and it's now available on note 3. Also let's not forget about the half-screen double apps running at same time (i dunno what it's called ); they also modified it to allow any app do that.
Wish it happens anytime soon!

I don't understand why someone would even want qslide when you have the native android multi tasking abilities?
I told you why bro. It's just like Halo if you ever tried it on Paranoid android Roms. The native multitasking requires you to quite one app to be able to use the other.
Qslide (and multiwindow in note) allows you to run an app simultaneously while you are using another app and on top of it.
It's much much more convenient. If you've never tried it I can understand your thoughts!

I can't deny your point at all. Once I tried the Halo from PA I really think this guy bring the multi-tasking to another level by other means. Brilliant feature! Custom ROM with Halo is the first choice of my flashing hobby by then.
However, with LG G2 I would like to stay with the stock. It has really good features with ease to access and use that makes all the things so convenience. I would also like to see very much the implementation of Qslide with any 3rd party apps...or Halo ported to stock ROM since it's open source now
