I use an adapter cable for my Nexus 7, so I can plug in various USB stuff (Nexus 7 hosts the stuff).
I am quite happy with that, using keyboards, mice, external USB-drives etc.
My Q's are:
I was wondering a bit about the limits to this support and I guess it comes down to driver support on Android's behalf. I guess the peripherals I mention work on generic drivers/standards etc and is therefore supported as-is by the OS?
And in continuation of that thread: Would it be possible to add support for, say, a USB 3G dongle, would that require a custom driver or what?
Just an idea

I've had a look around and found nothing on this specific issue. Basically, I have an e3131 hauwei dongle which has an SD card built in. Using PPP widget, my dongle is diagnosed as having no driver.
As everybody already knows, PPP widget is successful for everyone really. I want to know the reasons my dongle won't work properly? I'm using a nexus 7 tablet if that narrows it down...
Just to be clear, I'm new to android so I wouldn't assume previous knowledge

I have a sprint usb modem on the n7 when I did the update to 1.1 it was bad news could not find modem errors here and there, before I reinstalled 1.0.... I uninstall 1.1 deleted the folder then I went back to ppp 1.0 and all went back to normal.
Of course my modem does not have a SD card built in just to let you know.
If you did not have ver 1.0 try going back to ver 1.0 and see if you still have the issue.
1.1 works great on my transformer with the usb sprint modem.
Maybe JFDee the creator will chime in or do a PM to get an answer to your issue.

We´re in the same trouble...today, new 1.20 ppp widget versión is out, but same problema.
Do you need to root the Nexus 10 in order to use a Usb-OTG to USB flash drive?
I have a usb-otg that worked with one of my older tablets but nothing seems to happen with my N10.
Any help will be very appreciated.
Thanks.

Let me add to my question....
Will usb-otg only work for non rooted devices with the Nexus Media Importer app installed?

I've already answered these questions and made a video showing it works without root.
Search please, but to answer your question.
Yes Nexus Media Importer will work just fine with an OTG cable.
I just had a new deck installed, here's the one I had installed, http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/CD-Receivers/DEH-P8400BH
And when I plug my phone in to the USB, it says device unrecognized. Is that normal for Nexus devices? Is there any fix for it? And no bluetooth information is displayed, i see its something to do with something that LG or Samsung puts in their branded phones, so its absent from a Nexus, is there any rom with it in it?
Hey there. Same deck and same phone here. For the USB to phone, don't bother. Never got it to work myself. As far as information displaying while playing, many of the custom ROMs support this (CM10.1, AOKP, etc.), so you might want to give one of them a shot. I'm not sure this is something that can be added, or if it's something that that requires a whole ROM to implement.

The nexus 4 doesn't use UMS for mounting. It uses MTP. Unfortunately it won't be compatible with your deck or any other device for that matter.
There aren't any ROMs that will change that either.

I'm guessing this wont be in any AOSP based ROMs though? None of the ones I've used support this. Maybe I'll try CM when they finally get a stable version out, can't stand nightlies.

Haha, gotta love a cheap solution. Esp as he's just bought a new receiver.
Don't bother with cm right now. Apparently because of the new Bluetooth stack Google used in 4.21 they had to pull out AVRCP v1.3 (the Bluetooth control protocol that allows for song meta data to be sent to the headset) out of cm10.1 and revert back to v1.0 that only allows control...No metadata.
Stock Android only has AVRCP v1.0 so that's why it doesn't work on any stock Nexus device.
...but my wife's GS3 has AVRCP v1.3...boo.

So I am aware of the PPP app for connecting the nexus 7 (2012) to a turbostick via OTG and 4.2. But which sticks use the PPP protocol? I'm trying to find a stick that works on Rogers 3G/HSDPA network.

Right now am using PPP widget with android 4.4.2. Previously, the app was not working on android 4.3 due to some issues related to this version, but it has been updated to work with the latest one.
Am using Huawei E171, which is perfect (makes you feel like you are using 3G version tab), but initially you have to follow some steps inorder to "Turn off Fake CD and SD Card" using Putty.

Is anyone still using their Q now that it's been completely abandoned by Google? If so, in what ways are you using it? I was hoping someone here would hack the Q, but it looks slim. Should I throw this thing away? I want to use this things amp!

After they shut down the servers for setting them up, I quit using it. If you use cm 10. 2 with amp support and cheap cast its almost like it still works, but i haven't taken the time to put it on yet. There are guides. Don't trash it though. There are still people that will have uses for them as a desktop computer.
I haven't used mine in 6 months either but I am gonna dust it off and try to load 10.2 on it next week now that the hdmi and spidf are working. Does anyone know what keyboard and mouse combos work? I thought it was a Microsoft wireless 800 combo that I was using last time with wireless adb since there's only one USB.

I just installed cm 10.1 using the method posted by user ianandamy. Works great and my input methods are a Microsoft wireless mouse with with an OTG cable connected to the Q, and I have a wireless Bluetooth keyboard. The only things I would like to see fixed are the primal LED lighting function, and a way of powering off the Q other than unplugging it.

Does it allow it to run like a chromecast and stream media from the phone ? I miss my original q

Actually found mine in the cupboard the other week, got it working thanks to a few forum posts here, running CM on it, using it as a quick XBMC streamer + android games console with a Moga BT joystick... works a treat.

If you install CM on it and then install cheapcast, you can cast to it as if it was a chromecast.
since putting CM11 on this device it feels and works amazing!!
-full screen immersive mode
-transparency
-snappy
-play store works perfectly
If anyone is in the UK and willing to part with their Q, I'd love to make you an offer!
Just send me a PM
