Will windows RTM expire? - Windows 8 General

So I have got windows 8 RTM (9200) I also have activated it via the phone method.
but I was wondering if it is basically the same as an OEM version and will not expire or will I have a time limit to change to an OEM version.? thanks

That depends on the specific license agreement with partner/msdn/tech net subscription that you have.

Since its an RTM (Release to Manufacturing) it shouldn't expire. RTM's are the final build. I know that the Vista/Win7 RTMs never expired, so it would be odd if the Win8 one did.

Actually the licenses can expire. But as I said, it is dependent on the subscription account, such as with licenses obtained via technet will expire if the technet subscription expires.

G1 for $139, no activation, 12 month contract.

So, fairly pissed off now, and this makes no sense, but to promote Windows Mobile, Microsoft currently has a deal with T-Mobile to sell the G1 at $139 (I don't know if MS knows what they're doing...).
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/tmobile1/default.mspx
Click get the best deal, then "click here for discounts", then "Products", "Handhelds & PDAs", enter in a 3G zip code, and scroll down to G1. Apparently if you order over the phone, you can get just a 12 month contract as well.

Dammit... What the heck is Microsoft doing anyways? Selling an/the Android phone?
I'm fairly sure Microsoft just told T-Mobile "We'll give a discount on PDA phones we send to your site", and since all their PDA phones used to run WM it was fine. I'm sure Microsoft will fix it soon; order it while you can.

I wounder if that deal applies to people like me who already had a t-mobile plan (still love my dash) and had to pay $350 for the G1?
1 year contract?
After applying the phone to a family plan, I only see a set contract length of 2 years. Reading the descriptions for each category of plans, it says all plans require a 2 year contract...
am I missing something?
go through the whole process
This requires a 2 year contract. The only perk is the activation fee and the price. Walmart had the same deal a while back.

What a nasty way to rip us off with their pre-orders? I don´t get what Microsoft has to do with this.
Maybe they're doing it with the belief that Android is an inferior OS and that this low price will entice enough people to buy it, then their combined bad experience will reach the critical mass required to delay the implementation of Android and the consequent dilution of their market share.

T-Mobile wouldn't let them intentionally do this. I say again, this is likely nothing more than an error on Microsofts end.

T-Mobile will just sell phones at the price Microsoft says, because Microsoft will refund them for the discounts. And I'm sure MS is paying full MSRP on the phones, aka if T-Mobile were to sell a new phone with new contract they'd only be making $179, where as if they sell the phone for Microsoft they are making the full $399. Consumer pays less, but T-Mobile gets more.

T-mo is supposedly no longer doing 1 year contracts through this or similar discounted plans. If you contact them they won't honor the 1 year contract that is stated on the Microsoft site. According to the 2 or 3 T-mo reps I spoke with, there was a big hub-bub about this a few months ago and they decided to no longer offer them as part of these discounted plans. Take it for what it's worth.
As to the device being cheaper through Microsoft, it's not an offer exclusive to them. T-mo offers corporate/organizational discounts to many groups. Check with your employer or search around the net for groups you're eligible for (they're not too difficult to find). They often include a discount on monthly fees in addition to the hardware discount.

Yep. I got mine for $139 in store (in stock) with no activation fee. Plus 12% off per month. I just told them my employer up front (well .. I asked for the discount, since I knew we got one).
I was surprised that they never asked for any type of proof.
This is for new LINE ONLY, meaning you will lose your existing phone number and no you cant get a new line and then port your old number to the new line and cancel the old one. There is no porting within the same carrier required by law and they wont do it for you, I tried.
I used this last year to get my WING for $50 with actually no rebate back then. While everyone was stuck with 2 year contract, I got it for 1 year contract and that is why I was eligible for the G1 at $179.
Great deal and thank Microsoft!
tried to go through the process, and it looks like you have to get their data plan if you try to do it online...
btw, how do i know if my employer qualifies for discount?

Its just the wall street journal. Just do a google search for it on google news or at the above link. It's the real deal. I was told it was for anybody who opened up a new family plan or added a line onto an existing family plan. Free phones for all of the new lines. Regardless of what phone. No rebate i think. Straight free.

Well the "." in between the http was a red flag. Just because its the wall street journal doesn't mean someone couldn't set up a fake site. That's what I'm saying
I already have 4 out of the available 5 lines on my account... which is obviously a family plan of sorts. Thankfully, I'm on the "unlimited everything" plan.
I'm just going to pay to add another line, and most likely snag either the MyTouch 3G Slide, or another HD2 just to sell on Craigslist.

Unlimited data plan price increase to $50.

Looks like Verizon hates loyalty. UDP price to increase from 29.99 to 49.99. Get on contract to lock in the price.

I just dont get why they would give those already getting a discount a chance to stay on it at a cheaper price. Doesnt really seem to add up. I do have a corporate discount on file, so I guess time will tell, however I would ask your friend again and see if they have any extra details.
Thanks!
Well if they start increasing prices then they'll end up losing customers in the long run.
I filed a complaint with the FCC and received a call from Verizon. I was told that prices on corporate ACCOUNTS will not be raised . those with employer discount will be raised... Big difference. We will however be able to upgrade and keep the unlimited data. I encourage everyone to file a complaint with the FCC, and BBB. Oh and tethering will not be included .

I checked yesterday. You will be able to use the device payment plan. If you have lines that do not have unlimited data you can transfer the upgrade to that line and use a traditional upgrade path

I think it takes effect on November 12th or 15th for the billing portion. When the upgrade paths are opened up I have no clue but one would assume that as soon as they are billing you more then you could purchase a device on payments.

I would advise buying the phone before that date if you can upgrade now with a work around. You'll save money in the long run. If you said to upgrade after that date you'll end up paying an extra $480 over the course of 2 years.

Oh, I thought the first was the last day for the upgrade? I didn't know I had more time to lock it in. Once the orange accents are in stock I'll try to do it asap. I still have to find more concrete info on locking in my contract but I'm going to try my best to get it done.
EDIT: Quick question for you since I noticed you mentioned your method in the Turbo 2 section. If I transfer my upgrade from my line (UDP) to my mother's line (2GB, still in contract for 1 more year) does my contract lock in for two years starting immediately, or do I have to follow through with upgrading her device to get it locked in?

That's a good question. What should happen is that the contract date of the TDP line should switch to the UDP line. So they kind of swap with each other. So let's say you have an upgrade available on your UDP but your TDP has a contract renewal date of 10/21/2016. I believe what should happen is that you're UDP line gets changed to 10/21/2016. And then, let's say you buy a phone today on the TDP, you would have a new contract renewal date for the TDP on 11/3/2017. But you do actually have to follow though with the upgrade for the new dates to take effect.
My Turbo should come in tomorrow, so I will let you know what happens with my contact renewal date on my UDP line. There was a glitch in the system last year where I bought the original turbo and did the same exact thing, but my contact date never changed.
I transferred my upgrade to my sister's tiered line and then activated it on her line. After activating it, I popped in my SIM the phone was mine. My contact renewal date never changed though. It still said I had an upgrade available, that's why I was able to do it again this year on the Turbo 2.
As of right now, I just checked the Verizon website and it still says I have an upgrade available on my line. I'm wondering if the glitch happened again. I'll let you know tomorrow what happens.

But
That's a good question.

Awesome, that's really helpful, thank you. So basically all I have to do is login to my account, transfer my upgrade to the other line, and then go to Verizon and upgrade her phone, correct? Seems simple enough. I'm actually pretty worried about losing my UDP even though I know it's a proven method haha. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you end up paying for the Turbo 2? Or is it full price?
