Installed Google Wallet automatically disabled :0 - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently installed Google wallet with the help of rooting my N7 and installing OrBot, but now I couldn't find it, went to Google play and saw it was disabled automatically. How is that even possible? And is there anyway I can enable it?
Has anybody been successful in installing Google Wallet from the play store on there Nexus 7?

I thought Wallet was pre-installed. I remember having to patch it with a side-loaded update to get access to using other debit/credit cards, because I am rooted. Being rooted also displays a message about 'Unsupported device, but it works anyway. I used up all but 30 cents of the original $10 credit. However, I just opened Wallet for the first time since the 4.1.2 OTA and couldn't get it to initialize. Then I remembered, you have to have NFC enabled to initialize Wallet. Search 'Google Wallet' in this thread.

Finally, got google wallet to install on the SGS3 (UK)

WARNING: THIS METHOD DOES NOT WORK ON 4.1 (JELLYBEAN)
Ok, so first things first! I haven't tried using it to make purchases yet nor have I tried adding or topping up cards (I've only activated the prepaid google card and got the $10)
After 2 weeks of trying various methods and reading through various xda forums/posts etc and google I finally got it.
You'll need;
The latest firmware on SGS3 (can't confirm it will work on previous firmware)
A rooted device
market enabler
and finally the modaco patched google wallet
If you've never had google wallet on your phone you can skip steps 1-2
1. force close google wallet and clear the cache/data.
2. uninstall google wallet and delete any of it's files you might have saved.
3. backup your build.prop file from the system folder and move the original somewhere else.
4. open your build.prop file and look for the lines that says ro.product.model, ro.product.brand, and ro.product.device.
5. you want all 3 to read htc_jewel like so
Code:
ro.product.model=htc_jewel
ro.product.brand=htc_jewel
ro.product.name=m0xx
ro.product.device=htc_jewel
6. move your edited build prop file back to the system folder.
7. put your google wallet apk in the system/app folder using your chosen method.
8. Do Not open google wallet yet (This is where I was going wrong for most of it)
9. restart device.
10. switch NFC on if it isn't on.
11. open google wallet and follow on screen instructions.
options 12 - 14 might not be necessary but I'm putting them just in case
12. open market enabler and set it to t mobile us.
13. open the play store and find google wallet and uncheck automatic update.
14. you can now reset your google play back to UK.
source(s) various XDA posts (Mainly HTC forum) and Modaco for the patched apk
Steps 12 - 14 won't be necessary for sure.
Once you have got it working have you tried changing your build.prop back to see if it still works? Long term implications of having your phone think its something else could break other apps.
Plus on a side note, I thought Market Enabler didn't work with the new market versions?
what is the benefit of having google wallet in the UK? are we able to use it at all and for what?
I can confirm that Wallet now works in LFB without any of the hacks in the OP
Just have LFB rom installed and push the modified Wallet file in the OP to system, reboot and it works.
NFC.apk was upgraded in LFB this must have been included in the changes.
that's good but tell me... who has seen an NFC enabled payment system anywhere in England?!!? I know McDonalds have it, will this Google wallet work with that?! I don't want to bust out my phone to pay and end up looking like a tit! haha

Loads of shops
All McDonalds have them, All Greggs (bakery) have them, Most Pret coffee shops have them now and there are lots more too.
Visa and Samsung are pushing NFC payments for the Olympics so expect loads more to pop up this summer! (along with Visa apps).

Quite a few places in London..
I have an AMEX and VISA with contactless but never managed to get it working.. and yes I feel like a tit for trying each time
:crying:
EDIT:
I managed to get google wallet installed as per Lenny UK's instructions with the new firmware.. I just can't add the google prepay card.
And still unsure whether we can use Google Wallet rather than our normal contactless cards in the UK
sweet i did not know about greggs/subway. That's pretty sweet. I really REALLY want to try this. Anyone actually tried it out and about yet?

Look for Modaco's forum post with this app, he details how to get money loaded onto the app.

You need to push this file to /system/app it will not install like a regular app.... I said this as did the OP... please read
apologies. Excitement got the better of me. Thanks
It seems that you need to make the changes to the build.prop file to add your google prepay card and after that registers, you can resotre your original file.
unfortunately, to add more credit, you need to pay over the odds to use an american credit card.
well hopefully we're all set for when it launches! in the meantime I think my next meal will be on Google thanks for the great thread and info
I got angry with it not working so removed it
Hey Guys, this is great. Quick warning though there is a known issue that if you switch rom, wipe you device or do anything like that without going into wallet first and using the reset wallet option inside google wallet , it can break the nfc secure element in your phone and you will not be able to use google wallet ever again on that phone.
This happened to quite a few people when I wrote a similar thread to this about 3 weeks ago now and some people had to RMA their phone or claim on insurance. I mean it even stopped working on my phone when I tried to remove it properly using the reset wallet option. So i deleted the guide and had the thread closed just incase.
I am not saying that this will happen to you or anything like that, just thought I would warn people as I'm sure as Lenny said there will be alot of english wallet apps coming out this summer for the the Olympics so it might be worth waiting untill then. Not trying to scare people or anything well done to the OP great post just don't want people breaking their new phones.

Likewise, but it does work - you just have to change ro.product.device and ro.product.model in build.prop to "htc_jewel", then force stop the app and clear data in "manage apps", then reboot.

It took me a while too because I had installed the wallet without chaning the build.prop but this is what I did.
in google wallet >settings > reset wallet
delete apk from system/app
restarted the device
backed up and changed the build.prop
placed apk back into system/app
restarted the device
started google wallet
added card.. (it takes about 2-3 mins)
exited wallet
restored original build.prop.
seems like a hassle but I suppose there's a free mcdonald's meal for your hard work

[FIX] Google Wallet Outside US

I've been searching for a way to get Google Wallet working on my 7 here in Australia and eventually came across a couple articles that did the trick for me, so I thought I'd share.
Firstly, you need to be rooted and you'll want the patched Wallet.apk from here, which was linked from this XDA thread. Then I used these instructions but with a slight modification. This is the procedure:
Take a backup of Wallet.apk, just in case. Use your favourite file manipukation app, such as Root Explorer, to copy Wallet.apk from /system/app to somewhere safe - /sdcard, for example.
Go into Settings --> Apps, find Wallet, clear cache, clear data and force stop. I like to be sure
Open up Titanium Backup, browse for Wallet, clear data, then uninstall.
Push the patched Wallet.apk you downloaded into /system/app. DO NOT try to install it, as it will fail.
Set permissions on this file to rw-r--r--
Reboot
Go back to Titanium Backup and defrost Wallet.
Open Wallet, register, claim $10, win.
Before anybody comments about unnecessary steps, I'm sure some of them are but this is what I did and it worked for me. I'm not sure if it is necessary but I already had a card registered in my Wallet account with a US address. That is a regular Aussie Visa card where I just set the address to be some random address in The Bronx (I also have a Google Voice number for the same area). I had done this to purchase a magazine from the Play store (over VPN).
Once you are set up, you will need to add a payment card - I added a Google Payment Card - then you will get a confirmation email and will have a Nexus 7 screen looking like the attached, with $10 courtesy of Google.
While researching this, I found several examples of people in Australia successfully using Nexus phones to pay for goods where Pay Pass / Pay Wave is used but I haven't tried it myself yet. Come on, it's 10pm Saturday night!
Can you use this at a merchant when your tablet is not connected to the internet?

Think about it: You're credit card doesn't have 3G
I don't know all the technical details of how it works but I presume it is the same as a credit card process - i.e. the merchant's credit card machine verifies the card, then checks in with the bank. The analogy here would be the merchant's machine verifies the account by interrogating the NFC chip, the talks to Google to confirm payment is good.
did u get the 25$ credit as well?
You get $10
Does this work in the UK? I assume by Lennyuk's response that it does?

In Wallett or just in the Play Store? They are 2 different things.
Google have clarified the no internet issue (I dont have the link on me, I think it was in their blog):
To make a payment, you DO NOT need an internet connection
To change between cards on the device, you DO need an internet connection.
To top up, you DO need an internet connection (I would imagine for accurate balance, you would as well)
So, you can use a Nexus 7 to pay without any issues and no internet connection

Google Wallet - $10
Google Play - $25
Very nice post! I just enabled the modaco modified wallet on my Galaxy Nexus and will test it tomorrow in MacDonald (italy). This has already been reported as working in a local blog @ android.hdblog.it
Thanx
(At the moment it's impossible to topup the Google Virtual Card from Italy)
I have seen people able to use the $10 on wallet in Australia but I don't know of anyone who has been able to apply money onto their own cards on the Wallet.
Has anyone been able to do this successfully yet?

No, that's a little different. To make Books and Magazines work on your tablet, use Titanium to defrost the apps. To get Music, you need to connect to a US VPN to sign up. Once you've signed up, it doesn't check again

Install Titanium Backup, list apps, tap on Google Play Books, hit Defrost. Repeat for the other apps
You have to do this after each reboot on stock ROM.

Google wallet can't add other credit cards

So when I received my nexus 7 I got the ota update that enabled Google wallet. Supposedly Google now allows you to ad. Any debit or credit card in the app. Unfortunately there is no option in the app for me. I thought maybe I can update it in the play store so I searched for it and nothing came up. I did a search on Google and did find a link in the play store but when I click on it it says "This item is not available in your country or on your carrier."
http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39...dd-any-credit-or-debit-card-to-google-wallet/
So why isn't this thing updated is it installed as a service I guess with the os because you can't un install it only disable it. I would really like to be able to add other cards
Wallet is for USA only at this time you can only add cards that are registered to a USA address.
For the same reason it will only show in the market for USA devices.

Are you rooted? If so, you'll need to get the updated apk and replace the existing one in your /system/app/ folder and set permissions to rw-r--r--. There's a thread in the General forum with a link to another thread with the updated apk. After you do that and reboot, the app will be updated.

Why is the wallet app not automatically updated? I think even when I was on stock and unrooted, I couldn't see the wallet app from Play Store.
I found some 1.5 wallet apk though that lets me add any card. Can't remember the exact thread it came from though.

Exact same problem here, this should be the last Android device that would be blocked from getting the update!
Go to the Play website using your computer. Click on 'My Android Apps'. Choose the Asus Nexus 7. Scroll through the installed apps until you find Google Wallet. Click it. Click on 'INSTALLED' and it will offer to send the update to you. Send it to your N7, you may need to be on wi-fi, I'm not sure about that. Now you'll have the other options for credit cards. Just ignore the unsupported device banner. Payments work.
I had to wait a bit (like an hour or so) before it was properly notified that I could update it.

Thanks for the suggestion but Google Wallet didn't show up as an installed app. So I found a v 1.5 apk to install and that was fine. Less than stellar experience for a flagship Google device!
Glad you got the .apk and installed. I'm surprised it wasn't in your list of installed apps on the web page from your computer. I did have to scroll to the 3rd or 4th page of apps to find it. In Google's defense, I think they wanted to make it difficult to do on rooted devices because of potential future exploits.

I could of sworn I tried doing this before, and it said my Nexus 7 was an unsupported carrier (which makes no sense). Now it says it's installed though, but then again I am already using the 1.5 apk.

You only get that if the N7 is rooted. If you are stock, no warning.
Oops, I see you are rooted. I'll take a screenshot and attach what I see.
Anyway, that's what I get on a rooted N7 updated to the 1.5 version.
Yeah I already tried installing through the website before I posted the question is says: "This app is incompatible with all of your devices..."
I figured there was an apk out there but wanted to know why the heck google doesn't support this for it's flagship device (as said above). Maybe it's just certain tablets? Yes I just rooted my tablet the other day but I had the same issue before root, never showed up as an app I could update.

[Q] Google Wallet and 4.2.2 (T-Mobile)

I've been searching for the past 24 hours (almost non-stop) for a way to make Google Wallet work on my phone. And I still haven't been able to find one for the Nexus 4. Other devices, I have... but I don't know if those will work (i.e. GS4 fix will work on N4?).
I'm currently running Illusion v2 Beta. And every time I try to just open up GW to set it up... I get this screen (attached image).
Before I rooted and everything, it was running perfectly. I've uninstalled it. Reinstalled. Cleared data/cache. Tried on WiFi and on Mobile Data... and still nothing works.
So how do I get Google Wallet to work on my phone?

Have you tried uninstalling it and using Mocados mod? You can find it here: http://www.modaco.com/topic/354635-xmod-region-device-root-patched-google-wallet/
When using Google wallet and changing ROMs you have to reset wallet before you change, read more about it in the link, its an Xposed mod.

I have. And not even that worked for me.
Three things to note:
1) Are you near Salt Lake City? T-Mobile issues ISIS SIM cards in Salt Lake City and Austin (beta test market) which are known to conflict with Google Wallet. You will need a NON ISIS SIM card for Google Wallet.
2) Rev 11 phones had a known issue (like mine), which required contacting Google with a debug log. Within a week or two, they will fix the Secure Element initialization issue on their backend.
3) The latest market version has had issues for some with custom (rooted) ROM's. Try an older APK, or stock ROM.

I am in Salt Lake City, but my sim card doesn't say ISIS... which I think they always do? Mine doesn't say anything.
I'll try and find an older Wallet apk and see if that helps.
If not, guess I'll be submitting a bug report to Google.
Thanks for the info.

This applies to stock Android, as Google has no way to fix an issue in a third party ROM. If you flash back to stock 4.2.2 and still have the issue, then this is the process Google sent to me:
1. On your phone/tablet go into Settings, About Phone, tap "Build Number" seven times. Developer options will then appear in Settings.
2. Go into Developer Options and enable Developer Options (ON/OFF switch at the top), then enable "USB Debugging" (near the bottom of the screen).
3. Nexus devices: Press and hold volume down + and volume up buttons. Now also press and hold power button until you can feel the phone vibrate.
4. In about 20 seconds, you'll get a double buzz. A Gmail message dialog should appear. Please email the bug report to yourself and then attach it to your email and send it off to [email protected]

I've thought about that. Just haven't felt like switching... because I'm lazy like that. Haha.
But if a fix doesn't come up in the next day or so... I wont have a choice.
Had the same problem a month ago. As stated in the earlier post you got to call Google and send the log cat. They walked me through it over the phone took about a week for them to fix it and then they gave me a 20 dollar play store credit. Still spending that 20 dollars about 8 dollars left to buy more apps.
I couldn't get google wallet to work for like a month. i try today after seeing this post and it works. crazy.
I did call google in the past and they asked for the log but i never sent it.

N4 missing from My Devices since OTA 4.3

I updated to OTA 4.3 a couple of days ago, having cleared Google Services Framework to trigger it. (N4 is totally stock BTW)
Seemingly this has the side effect of flushing the N4 from the My Devices list at Google play https://play.google.com/settings?hl=en
After the update I had to Remove my Google Acc from the N4 and log back into it again to get the play store functioning again. Over twenty four hours later and still no sign of my N4 back in My Devices though.
Q. Will my N4 eventually return to the My Devices list spontaneously, or is there something else I must do, to have this happen?
Have you tried to install an app from google play on your N4 ? Just my guess, maybe that would "tell" google that you've got a new device. I could be wrong though...

Yes I have. I can successfully install apps from Play on the N4. I cannot of course from the PC because my N4 is not listed any more ;-(
Still no sign of my N4 in the same google account when accessed from a web browser on my desktop. In there I can see my Nexus 1, My Xoom and old HTC desire . But no N4.

Yes I have. I can successfully install apps from Play on the N4. I cannot of course from the PC because my N4 is not listed any more ;-(

I have the same problem, after I cleared Google Services Framework, both my nexus 7 and nexus 4 disappeard from the "My Devices" list at Google play, but after logging back, only my nexus 7 returned to the "My Devices" list at Google play.I tried to install apps in my nexus 4,but still no sign of my nexus 4 in the "My Devices" list
Good to see I am not Robinson Crusoe at least.
Seems it is an artifact of clearing Google Services Framework on the N4 only. Wonder why it is only seemingly effecting the N4 and when and if it will sort itself out. Perhaps after the individual device number is due for its OTA in the rollout.
I have the same issue, went to download something from the play store via the desktop (easier to search and read about the app) and I don't have any devices listed. I did clear the Framework to try and force the update but that did not work
Can still download from the play store on the device

Remove your Google account in settings, then re-add it.

As mentioned in post #1 this does not fix the problem. If only it did the issue would not exist.
From time to time I see the following dialog on my N4...
"Unfortunately the process com.google.android.gsf.login has stopped."
I guess this is related somehow. Any other suggestions (other than hard reset)?
Well, rather than removing my account, I did a factory reset on phone,
Booted with 4.3 already installed and after several hours of my first app install via my phone, I still don't have a device when looking via my Chrome on the desktop.
Will check in the morning (approx 12 hours) and see what happens.
I've had the same issue for a few days now, so I decided to use Market Helper (usually used to fake your device model) to tell the store that I have a nexus 4 (which it is). This placed it back into the play store instantly.
It's strange as my phone (fresh install of 4.3 using the Google images) appears fine in Google Play on my PC

In my case I was on 4.3, decided to root the device, so backed it up and then put 4.3 on. Then I restored the backup I had. It could be the restore that caused me issues rather than 4.3...
Still no luck for me ... Been more than 12 hours since I did a fresh install and have used the play store many times on the phone and my device does not appear. Rather annoying
Seems this issue is not going to get fixed any time soon. After several days no sign of my N4 with 4.3 re-appearing in Google Play. I dont think it will get fixed until Google get their Sh1t together and fix it their side.
Managed to log a support case with Google Play last night, the person I spoke said she had seen the issue as well but 4.3 solved for her.

That doesn't sound very promising. Are they going to get back to you with a fix any time soon?
Wonder if it would help if more of us log the same fault and cross reference your support case number. So they can see it is not isolated.

Not sure if that means they want even more information that what I provided.

Not just N4 it's my N7 MIA
Found this thread when looking for almost the same problem. For me it's my Nexus 7 that is AWOL after the 4.3 OTA update. My Nexus 4 is still there.
My Nexus 4 received the update first, and was still there after the update as I used the play site to find and install the Privacy manager app.
A few days later my Nexus 7 updated, and it is now missing from My Devices and the symptoms seem to be the same as everyone here is reporting with their N4.
So it seems that it's not just the N4 that is affected.
Reply from Google - is your phone rooted?
My reply - no
Back to waiting.
