Hello,
Today I noticed something strange.....I tried to copy a matroska (mkv) file to the sdcard (internal memory) of my P3100. The file could not be copied and the file explorer crashed. This happened everytime I tried.
I renamed the file (removed the mkv extension) and copied the file without problem. Then I renamed it back. The default media player was able to play the video without any problem. External srt subs also worked fine.
Has anybody had the same issue?
I own a P3100 (4.0.4 unrooted)

It might be the convert on the fly thing. Sometimes when I drag a video over it asks me if I want to convert it. I just click no. Might want to reinstall your drivers.
I don;t think it is a driver issue. Everything else works ok...
I always copy the files without any conversion...
As the problem is in this specific extension so i think the problem is in the fly conversion

So on other android devices to hide music and pics from the media players and gallery you would just set the folder to hidden.
I've tried this and it didn't work.
Also i've created a blank file named ".hidden" with the names of the folders i want hidden in the file and still no go.
The folders are hidden, i can see that when i connect my microSD to my PC (on ubuntu and XP) yet unwanted files still show up in the media player.
This is really annoying because i have a bunch of games and apps and all their little sound effects and pics are showing up in my gallery and music players. Theres nothing like going from one good song to sound effects of a game... :/
Anybody know how to do this right?
2.1 build 6941
Create a file called .nomedia in The directory you want to hide from the music player. Use astro.

How are you creating a .nomedia file?
I've just renamed a folder to .nomedia with stuff within the folder that I wanted to hide via Astro and now my phone has decided to deleted all my media on my phone ( music, photoss and videos ) but the media within the renamed folder is fine, I've even tried returning the folder back to it's original name and I've plugged the card on a PC and they're all gone, just the folders remain......bugger...... take it that there's no way to recover the files?

He means create a file called ".nomedia"
Like a word document would be ".doc" but don't add any other name before the dot, just worked for me too, thanks!
I just copied a small file (eg adwsettings.xml) to the directory and renamed it to .nomedia. when you start the gallery it will rebuild the thumbnails minus the files in The tree where the .nomedia file lives.
I am using the 2.1 o2 build 8xxx.

The Estrongs File Explorer allows you to create a new file with whatever name/type you want.

Are you sure there gone and not just hidden?
What I did to create the file in astro, I created a new zip archive, named it .nomedia and then selected the zip file and chose to rename it and just removed the .zip from the end.

I know this is not really related, but it does change my album art to it's own default on some albums, which i find really annoying!!!!

yeah, I've plugged my card into a PC with show all hidden files and they weren't appearing and Astro has Show Hidden Files on too
Ah well, I'll know for next time, think I've only lost a couple of photo's but most of my media has been backup....I think
There are a couple of free apps in the market that can hide what every file you like one is called HIDEIT i think
Right, copied almost all my media back onto my SD Card, I have now created a New.txt file on my PC, copied that over to a folder with media I wish to hide, then on the phone, I used Astro again to rename the New.txt file to .nomedia file and this has worked fine. Gallery doesn't see it and the files are still there, however, I then decided to test copying the newly created .nomedia file to another folder to hide some other media. Once I backed out of Astro, then entered the native photo app, the media from that folder has disappeared, however, I then return to the folder with the media I just wanted to hide and they have now been deleted again Proper random. I'm guna leave the one I have created first time as for some reason they are still present, but I'm not guna bother with this method of hiding things.
So be warned, this method of creating a .nomedia file, if not done properly, may result in you losing your media!

thats really weird, and you scared me, i just went and checked and everything is still there for me...
In most of the places i put it was in the parent folder of images/sounds i wanted to hide, not the folder they were in. For example the sounds from Lets Golf game by gameloft were showing up in my music player which are in the folder /sdcard/gameloft/games/letsgolf/ but since i have more then one gameloft game installed i put the .nomedia file in /sdcard/gameloft/ Ofcourse this wouldn't work if the files you want the media apps to ignore were only in one folder on the sdcard because then you put the .nomedia in the root of the card it would ignore all the media on the card.
There is a serious problem with flash player in all Desire HD, Desire Z, MyTouch 4G.
NOBODY PAYS ATTENTION TO THIS PROBLEM.. I posted this message 4 or 5 times. There is audio only in some video feeds such as www.foxnews.mobi, and in some TV apps such as SPB TV2. Is there any solution for this? I think the problem is the media streaming app.
The reason I switch to Android is flash, but the flash does not work. This is so sad.
Thank you.

Thank you so much, let's me give it a try
This is the official motorola video player
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2DNRIA0D
Download to device and install (may not download with xoom itself so dl using a PC and transfer to Xoom storage)
If install fails for any reason:
Place in system / app using root explorer or adb
then restsrt device
I got it from my moto atrix for whatever reason its not installed on the xoom
Powerful player and works with upnplay for streaming 720p content from ur home network unlike rock player or vplayer (slow and audio video sync issues)
i tried installing real player manually too but its resolution is off doesn't do full screen.
Doesn't install on any of my devices.
Sent from my GT-P1000
It wont install u need to push it with adb or use root explorer as OP.says

Hotfile is being a real pain. could you put it on a better dump site? I'd love to try this. Does 720p high profile work?
i doubt that but i didnt try. Its just a MUCH better stock player that will play alot that the 'movies' app won't. Such as dlna over ur network for example (flvs, mp4s)
ive re-upped it.
Link not working for me
Copied to system/app, restarted, no icon.
Any ideas?
it won't show as a icon but when trying to play a movie itll pop up as a choice

1) download file on your pc (it wouldn't work when I downloaded straight on my xoom)
2) move the file over to your "sdcard"
3) open Root Explorer (make sure you are rooted)
4) move the file on your sd card over to /system/app (make sure /system/app is in r/w mode)
The end.
I would love to try this, but root explorer force closes on me everytime i attempt to open it.

Thanks for the reply. This is exactly what I did the first time. I did it again, and didn't have any problems (again). Maybe what I'm missing is how to actually play videos with this player? When I open a video file, I don't have a new listing/app option. I'm also very interesting in the streaming features the OP mentioned.

Most likely you have already defined one of your Multimedia apps as default player. Go to Settings>Applications and find your video players. One of them will have the "Launch by default" set. If you clear that you should be able to see the list of choices again when playing a video file.

Sorry, I should have explained more fully. It's not that I don't get the list of apps with which I can play a video, it's that there isn't a new app in the list-- I have no way to select this new player
Not to put a damper on anyone's enthusiasm around here, but has it occurred to anyone that maybe it won't work quite right because this apk was designed for a different OS version, OS skin, different hardware (though same Tegra 2 SOC), etc?
I Signed the APK now you can install it, at least it worked for me. OP if you want to download this and repost it I will delete this file after. Thanks for posting.

Any reports on how the signed APK behaves/works?

What file manager are you using to delete the files? I have found that some managers / programs do not delete files without issues for some reason, for example when I play video files via MX video player, if i delete a file using MX it is often not removed, whereas with Root Explorer or ES file explorer I have never had any issues like that.
Also are you sure the files are really there? Maybe your PC is just showing you cached data, try a refresh/rebot of both devices, check again? Are the deleted files still intact if you copy them from tab to PC, or are they damaged?

I've tried all the popular file managers and the files are indeed there and intact. I think I ruined file permissions or something, I have no clue.

Did you alter the permissions of the files in question? Are you rooted? Does a root access file explorer (ie root explorer) cause the same issues when deleting a file?
Where is the file you are deleting, /sdcard/* or is the file actually in the system root (/)?
Is it on microsd?
Possibly a corrupt file system, or perhaps you are deleting a file that is currently locked by a running app?
Can you post a logcat of what happens when deleting a file? The clue to solve your problem might be in the system logs, snag a free copy of catlog if you don't have it, launch catlog, have catlog start recording, start a file explorer, delete the file, switch back to catlog and stop recording and then post/examine the log, might be a clue in there.
Also, as a wild idea - assuming the issue is coming from files, snag a copy of "sdrescan" from market, it is free, and give it a run. Perhaps you have a corrupted gallery view or something.
Hope we can figure it out
hey XDA,
I am not able to copy Flac audio files from my PC to the Internal Storage of my galaxy s4. When I paste the Flac files into the phone, it prompts for file format not supported, then I click 'No, just Copy' and for all files. But then it only copies the first file (If I selected multiple files) and then freezes. When I cancel the process, the first file is copied successfully.
How can i fix this?
Greets,

sorry, nerver have this problem before..guess you need to wait for file to completely copy to your phone if it hang just wait until it complete
I have found out the solution today. I had the same problem on two phones, two systems, two laptops. People usually use same set of applications etc
I always used K-lite codecs to play videos on the PC. This causes the problem with copying the Flac files to the phone somehow. Uninstalling it makes it back ok.
