Just got off the phone with Verizon ordering a Droid 2. The rep told me the Droid 2 is Verizon's first 4G phone. She said they currently have 4G in 35 markets. I cant find anything about that anywhere online, so I called back and asked another rep and he again confirmed that the Droid 2 is their first 4G phone. Anyone heard about the Droid 2 supporting 4G?
edit: 2 out of 3 sales reps told me the Droid 2 was 4g. 3rd rep denied it, Customer service and Tech Support both denied it. Although the customer service rep did tell me she thought all of the phones would support 4g "Otherwise all of our customers would have to buy new phones when we roll out 4g". Uh, yeah, i think thats the point! I corrected her on the matter, and she then did some more reading and confirmed that 3G phones will not magically work on 4G. I hate it when you know more about a persons job then they do! If I sold phones I would know everything about the phones we sold.
Verizon does not have 4g available in 35 markets, and the Droid 2 is not 4g capable. According to DroidForums and BGR among other sources, Verizon will start rolling out true 4g around Black Friday with the first 4g phones to follow shortly after.

I am under that impression as well. But why are 2 different reps telling me this? Clearly either they are misinformed, or it's some super secret feature of the Droid 2. You would think if it was true they would be marketing the hell out of it. I'm going to call again when they open and see if I can talk to someone higher up. If its not true they absolutely should not be telling customers the phone supports it. She clear as day said "The Droid 2 is our first 4g phone".
As far as I know, Sprint is the only carrier with 4G at the moment. Verizon is currently testing their 4G, as is AT&T, while T-Mobile is touting its HSPA+ 3G network as having "4G Speeds". If Verizon launched the Droid 2 and it had 4G radios in it, I'm sure we'd know from them or the FCC. Those reps more than likely had no idea what they were talking about, it's just interesting you got the same answer from two different people. Out of curiosity, I think I'll call Verizon and ask them the same question.

Yes please do and let me know what they tell you. Next time I call I'm going to record the call and post it online
Im on the phone with them right now. Customer Service knows nothing about it apparently. It's the sales department that's telling people this. I'm being transferred to tech support now. Apparently this is absolutely not true (I assumed that). I'm going to call Sales again and see if I can get a 3rd rep to tell me the Droid 2 is the first 4g phone
edit: 3rd sales rep said the Droid 2 is not 4g. Interesting. Apparently they have different playbooks. I should call customer service and see if they can track down who took my order for the Droid 2 and give them a spanking. It was the first feature she mentioned! "The Droid 2 is our first 4g phone, we currently have 4G service in 35 markets". Naughty naughty verizon!

Yeah, whoever you talked to is either extremely misinformed, or just full of it. I called and talked to a rep today and said I was told that my Droid 2 I bought was a 4G phone and asked if my DInc that I'm currently on was too. He laughed and said Verizon doesn't have any 4G phones yet, because they don't even have 4G service so unfortunately I'm stuck on 3G for now. Silly telesales reps.

Not a good thing at all. AT&T SUCKS. I am glad that I am Canadian and do not have to deal with those jerks.
Judging by the amount of ATT rants I have seen I feel sorry for you guys. It won't be long before ATT start offloading their network onto tmobiles and updateing android devices to prevent sideloading (unless they do what t mobile and Orange UK did which was a 2g crossover)
Wait doesn't their 3g work on different bands

Just great, not a happy camper at all. Hopefully when its all said and done i will no longer be living in the US. It is a shame that a company will force you to take one of their plans when you dont want to and there is nothing anyone can do about that, why would i want to pay more and get less and sign another contract that i dont want to?
Dont want to go back to sprint and verizon will be hard to get into with their credit check and i dont want to loose my SIM phones.

****, first Cingular and now Tmo. I am cursed. I am also just out of contract and on a sweet unlimited plan that is pretty cheap. I finally had what I wanted.
I guess the least they could do is give me back the rollover minutes I lost when I switched and the money I had to pay to get out of the contract. I mean, that was all a result of me wanting to switch, and I accepted it. Now I have to go back to AT&T? I guess if they say "**** you" to my request (which the will), it is off to Sprint maybe.
Yeah. I'm not happy either. I just hope this was a monetary move and they leave the networks untouched. If they start screwing with **** I'm gone. ETF and all. I was very happy with t mobile. I hate ATT, and always have.

I saw an interesting post in another forum. The poster claims the reason why anti-trust laws will be overlooked is so ATT can build the 4g network up. Basically, they do all the grunt work getting the 4g standard set nationwide, and then the gov't steps in and chops them up. ATT knows this, but they also know they will make large profits during this time.
The poster did a much better job explaining, and his version made some sense. Either way, I like Tmo. I don't want to change to ATT again.
This is going to hurt, so heres an idea, ALL the talent here, we could start our own service.. DOH.. not...
I will definately switch to a diff carrier, my contract will be over in 10 months.
Bumping this up so that ppl can learn to READ and realize that there are multiple thread on this already.
T-Mobile customers now get to experience the worst customer service by any company on the face of the earth! Seriously I would rate AT&T as the number 1 worst company for customer service that I have ever dealth with in my entire life. T-Mobile's customer service is much better.
As for customer service .. TMobiles reps will probably be AT&T employees. In the beginning the c/s will be ok, at least until they realise they don't have to be nice and/or helpful to keep their job.
what i'm more concerned about is this. what will happen to my galaxy tab that runs on TMo's AWS bands after the merger? from the material they released today it seems that there going to phase out tmo 3g on AWS to implement LTE on that spectrum. does that mean if i have my tab for two years, i'll have edge only(no 800/1900 AT&T 3G Band) on the new network for a year?
An agreement was announced under which AT&T will acquire T-Mobile USA. The agreement is the first step in a process that, including regulatory approvals, is expected to be completed in approximately 12 months. Until then, we remain a separate company and continue to operate independently.
We know our customers, business partners and others may have many questions.
Here is some more information:
Will my service change?
There is no change in your service and we remain committed to ensuring you have the best experience possible experience using your T-Mobile USA products and services.
Will I now be billed by AT&T?
No, your billing remains exactly the same. T-Mobile USA continues to operate as an independent company. As always, you would receive advance notice to any changes to your services.
Why is T-Mobile USA doing this?
Bringing together these two world-class businesses will create significant benefits for customers. The merger will ensure the deployment of a robust 4G LTE network to 95% of the U.S. population, something neither company would achieve on its own. Also, because of our compatible networks and spectrum, the customers of T-Mobile USA and AT&T will experience improved voice and data service almost immediately after the networks are integrated.
Will T-Mobile USA’s quality be reduced?
No. In fact, the combination of AT&T and T-Mobile USA will offer an even stronger service to customers. Until the acquisition is closed, we will work hard to maintain our position as the value leader with America’s largest 4G network.
If the acquisition closes, will I still be able to use my T-Mobile USA phone?
Yes. Your T-Mobile USA device will operate the same in the future as it does today.
Should I wait to sign-up with T-Mobile USA or upgrade my phone?
No, T-Mobile USA offers the latest wireless devices that are affordable on America’s Largest 4G Network and the combination of AT&T and T-Mobile USA will mean even stronger service for our customers. Now is a great time to be a T-Mobile customer.
Is T-Mobile USA getting the iPhone?
T-Mobile USA remains an independent company. The acquisition is expected to be completed in approximately 12 months. We do not offer the iPhone. We offer cutting edge devices like the Samsung Galaxy S 4G and coming soon our new Sidekick 4G.
Will my rate plan change because of the acquisition?
We will honor all contracted plans that are entered into before the change of ownership.
Where can I express my opinion on this?
T-Mobile customers can utilize the company's online Forums.
The merger is good for At&t and T-Mobile, but consumers loose a bit of choice in a carrier who was willing to take risks and "keep the big players honest" when it comes to pricing and value. I'm not a T-Mobile customer nor have I been for a long time but I respect what they represented in the market place. If the merger gets green lit then wireless competition in the US dies a little.

A little. Have you HEARD all the moaning and groaning about how horrible AT&T is?
Are you leaving tmobile? if so where are you going?
Vote in the poll above
Not leaving. I am staying with t-mo (soon to be att)
I spoke to t-mobile Customer service. The rep said the merger will honor present contracts for t-mobile customers beyond att takeover.
Sprint no etf have a T-Mobile out of contract plan. My friend has sprint as well he's going to add a line for me probably going to get evo 3d or maybe atrix since I want take a shot at cracking the bootloader.

I will be jumping ship if/when AT&T takes over, unless AT&T shows they will be better in all aspects of their business practices! (I doubt it will be)
It will be either Sprint, Boost or Cricket maybe Virgin Mobile for us.
This just really blows!
Im going to wait it out and see what AT&T does to T-Mobile, then i might switch to sprint if i dont like it
Does anyone know what the Sprint Android phone has the most development behind it
I'm assuming the HTC EVO but i wanted to here someone elses input
Well, I already have a secondary account with Sprint and a tertiary account with Verizon. Basically, T-Mo will go and everyone else will move up one spot... Damn, this sucks!
Damn... I truly don't know where to go as I swap phones pretty much weekly and most of those carriers aren't exactly SIM friendly.
Not going anywhere, I'll just wait & see in about 12 months where merger & everything stands.
This sucks Att taking over I ll wait and see then make a decision.
I already have a Thunderbolt on the way.

I switched to Verizon iPhone this weekend after seeing this a week ago.
Going to AT&T. WAIT! I am already with AT&T..lol
I just got to T-Mobile 5 months ago.
I had Alltel, they got bought by Verizon and Verizon shut down 1/2 the towers in my area.
Sprint, No service in my home and spotty every where else.
Was looking at Centennial Wireless at one point, but AT&T bought them.
So I really don't know what I will do, just sit and wait and HOPE that the buy out gets denied.
No, hopefully they will honor my 2 year contract that started on November 2010. Then after when my contract ends I hope they let me keep my plan, with that I'd just buy unlocked phones. Unless they make me sign up for a new 2 year contract with them with their plan/rates.
Im done with Tmobile I will be selling my dash, G1 and G2(maybe) this month. I can already see the data hikes coming. ATT is the company I always suggested people to stay away from now its forced on me! lol Sorry TMO fans I'm done even if I stay in this 2yrs contract Im out.
well, my contract ends in november, and since by then it won't be a year yet, i will probably renew to get a new phone, if after the merge happens, and im not liking it, 2 things can happen:
if they keep my contract as is and not change it till i have to renew again, ill keep the contract till i have to renew and jump ship.
if they give us 30 days during the merge to jump ship because they WILL make changes to the contract no matter what, i'm jumping ship.
Either way, the only thing that sucks is im not sure which carrier to go to next. Sprint's 4G connection sucks in miami, my friend has an Epic 4G and my 3G speed is faster than his 4G speed. Verizon has awesome speeds with 4G LTE but im not sure if i'll like verizon much, my mom had them before and they had really bad customer service. So we'll see.
I'll probably just get a messenger pigeon.
This deal is not bad, so stop complaining enjoy the family of AT&T users...HAHAHAHAHAH!!!!
Heading to Sprint.

Of course they will honor the present contracts beyond the AT&T takeover. Where they will get you is when you go to upgrade. They will tell you that you can only upgrade if you switch over to an AT&T plan, which of course will be more expensive. They did this to Cingular users when they went in together.
My personal opinion, I highly doubt the merger will happen BUT if it does I'll wait to see what they have to offer when my contract expires. Ive been with t-mobile for almost 10 years and have a family plan with 7 phones. Their lose our gain if they piss me off.

Truth! I was a Cingular customer when that happened! I was so pissed and it's why im so pissed now. If we want to get a 4G LTE phone in the future, we will definitely lose our unlimited data plan.
I'm currently with Verizon but my contract doesn't end until another year and I'm not eligible for an upgrade either, although I'm not so sure if I want to sign another 2 year contract. I want to buy the Note 3 but I'll have to pay full price and I'm not sure if I should go for the Verizon version or the International one since I'm already going to be paying full price... What do you guys suggest? Thanks.
What is coverage like in your area for AT&T and T-Mobile? Try OpenSignal's app to see coverage maps from all the providers and see if a GSM device would be right for you. An unlocked GSM phone will work on either AT&T or T-Mobile. I bought my original Note on an AT&T contract and paid ETF earlier this year, unlocked it, and went to a T-Mobile prepaid plan. It is working out great for me, $30 for 5GB data is awesome but I'm in Kansas City area which is one of T-Mo's LTE areas. Problem is that prepaid plans don't count as acceptable service for discounts on T-Mo devices apparently. I want to get the Note 3 but they said it would be $740 instead of $700 due to having prepaid vs. postpaid. I'm still probably going to buy it after AOSP based ROMs start showing up. Loved the hardware when I played around with the demo unit but the software was just messy...never been a fan of Touchwiz, it lasted all of a week on my Note 1 before CM took its place.

Verizon has the best coverage in my area and also the best speeds. I had Sprint before and it was horrible. I also had AT&T before they went LTE but my brother has it and I always get better signal than him or faster speeds. T-Mobile should be below AT&T if i'm not mistaken but I should check their coverage like you said. So International phones are only GSM? The International Note 3 wouldn't work on Verizon?
Yeah, International are GSM phones, Sprint and Verizon aren't compatible I don't think (unless LTE changed this).
Wanted to know if anyone had there note 3 on ting, an mvno under sprint and if there were any differences than the sprint version. I wanted to bring my sprint note 3 over but they said i wouldn't be able to do that yet so im thinking about ordering theirs.

I pre-ordered the Note 3 on ting the day it went up on their website and recieved it on 11/6. I love the phone, but unfortunately 4G service has not worked once since I've had it. At first I assumed it was a bad phone so I called for an exchange. The tech support wanted to ensure I was in a 4G area so they asked me to do a side by side with another ting/Sprint phone to verify that it was indeed a bad phone. I knew for sure that I had been in a 4G coverage area with no luck, but I went along with it because overall, given some people's level of tech knowledge, I thought it was a reasonable request. I did the test, and just like I suspected, my wife's ting S4 had 4G just fine, while my Note 3 was stuck on 3G. So I called again a few days later seeking my exchange. This time, I was told that the problem was actually a known issue on Sprint's end. Apparently, because it was a new tri-band phone, Sprint was experiencing some problems on the new frequencies, so all newer phones were having the same problem. That would seem like a reasonable explanation; problem is the Note 3 is not a tri-band device. I kindly explained that to the tech, who then put me on hold. He came back with a new explanation: the problem was on ting's end, a software glitch that was mis-identifying Note 3's to the Sprint Network as 3G only devices. He assured me that they were working on the problem and would contact me when it was fixed. Sure enough, I got an email about a week later asking me to do a factory reset on my phone, and all would be good. I did, and all is not good, still no 4G. The tech than said he would elevate the issue with Sprint technical support. I'm still waiting to here the results. Frankly I'm getting tired of waiting. I'm going to call again tomorrow [12/3] and ask to return the phone.

Up until this issue I've loved ting. I switched over in March and have saved lots of money on service, $50 to $70 per month! I've recommended them to several friends. As far as I can tell the service quality and coverage is identical to Sprint. There is no data roaming, but I reviewed my Sprint bills prior to switching, and less than 1% of my data was roaming anyway so I could live without that in exchange for the savings.
When you call, a person answers the phone as well, which is nice.
I'm a ting fan, but they need to make me happy fast to me to remain one.
