Battery Levels on TWA_PRIV Jelly Bean - Kindle Fire General

Just curious as to what uses most of your guy's battery
mine says 52 percent discharging, 3h 8 min on batter (coming from 100 percent charged)
57 percent screen
10 percent android OS
9 percent Android System
4 percent wifi
and the rest are various apps

Very similar on usage. 50% screen. 5% WiFi. Other than that, same. But I get even less battery life than you do. I have about 3 hours remaining and I'm at 65%.

When reading on low brightness and wifi off, battery goes down 5% every 20 minutes.
20% per 30 minutes when watching video.
10% per 20 minute with wifi on and active web browsing.

My screen is only using 35, I have my brightness turned down to save battery life.
I am also using jandycane though.

Here are some screenshots of my current ROM (twa_priv's)

My percentages are pretty similar as well. I'm down to 17 percent battery.
33% Screen
13% Android OS
12% Tablet Idle
6% Android System
6% Mediaserver
3% WiFi
10% Miscellaneous apps

Haha, mine has 98% screen and 3% wifi. What the..??

Amazing batteries

Xoom and honeycomb truly have the best battery life I have ever seen. I have been using mine for at least 15 hours straight and my batteries are still at 53% left. I've been using this extremely heavily with 3g on for like 10hrs and wifi for the rest of the time....gaming, web browsing, emailing, pulse reading, remote connection, and even some video!
According to my batteries,
Xoom been on batteries for 15hrs 24minites
Display 79% - 3hrs 57 min
Android OS 6% - 53 min
Tablet idle 3% - 12 min
Browser 2% - 18 min
Email 2% - 2min
Simply clock 2% - 10 min

Agreed. The battery life on this thing is amazing, way beyond what I expected.
Been playing with it on and off all day at work, now, 13 hours later, I got 71%left. SICK.
I've been really happy with it too. Had it at work yesterday. I brought it to work at 90%. Connected my bluetooth headphones to it, streamed Pandora over wifi through the device to my headphones non-stop for 8 hours. Used it for checking personal mail and a little bit of browsing so the display was probably on for an hour of that time. Got home and the battery was at 65%. Excellent!
I feel like mine doesn't get nearly the battery life that you guys are talking about...using it constantly with the screen brightness turned all the way down it seems to be getting roughly 10 hours of continuous use on wifi.
Are you all rooted? I don't think that would matter but it seems as though im a little dissapointed in the battery life where everyone else is stunned. I had the screen off last night at around 50 % and this morning at around 11 it was at 11%.
Should I be worried?
there should be multiple threads on this!
THE BATTERY LIFE IS INCREDIBLE!
14hrs and with that included
5hrs display on (over 75% brightness if not full)
1hr20minutes on google talk video!!!!!!!
(5minutes of wich i tethered my nexus s and used my 3g rather than wifi..which by the way was both just amazing) seriously, i kept switching back and forth with the camera to mess around with my sister...simply amazing.
2hours browsing
45minutes movie
28% battery remaining!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
**** MY MOM!!!!

Dude, that sounds about right. If you are saying you used it for 10 hours continuously with the display on (which is easily the biggest drain) then you did well!

Hate to be an ass, but having the display on for 4 hours only, clearly shows you haven't been using it for 15 hours straight.

lol. This made my giggle.
Anyway, maybe he was refering to having apps running (ie, pandora, browser, etc) with the display off for the rest of the time. Granted, the display pulls the most battery usage, but the device can still be in "use" with the display off.

Valid point.
What's the best way/time to charge?
How and when do you guys/gals usually charge your Xoom?
Plug it in every night to charge overnight
When it's almost dead (<10%)
Plug it in whenever possible
Other
Just wondering if any of these "techniques" will affect battery life in the long run!
overnight to charge usually. i havent been able to kill the batteries during normal usage.
Had mine off the charger for over 48 hours. Just put it on the charger this morning with battery at 10%

I'm blown away by the battery life on my Xoom. I left my charger at home on my last trip and went 3 days without charging, with moderate use I still had 20% when I got back home.
I personally charge every night, but I really don't have to. I use it at work, check emails, take notes during meetings, etc. Screen is prob on 4-5 hours a day. When I get home, more browsing, maybe some music. When I finally get to bed, I usually have >50% battery.
The batter is so good, I basically solved my one big gripe, which is power button. During a meeting when I know I'll take notes intermittently, I simply set the screen to never go off. It does kill the battery, but I have still never had a problem getting through a day.
The 2nd day I had the Xoom I stress tested the battery, used it almost the entire day, barely put it down. Got through 10hrs with 20% battery left, browsing on WiFi, some gaming, etc. Last night, I went to the American Airline Center to see the Stars, about 3 and 4 hours of hockey(went overtime then shootout) and only used about 20% battery in that place, which is usually a horrid battery sucker on 3G on my Droid.

[READ] How to read and understand battery statistics

Lot of people (me included) are confused about how to read and understand battery statistics. I think it's possible to find misunderstanding in many of the battery usage threads I have been reading, making discussions muddy.
As an common example people often think that a high OS-System battery % equal high OS-System battery usage/drain ... but I don't think this is true!
Let me show two examples:
Example 1:
On battery 26 hours using 43% battery or roughly 1.65% battery per hour.
Screen 23%
Android-System 22%
Android-OS 21%
Voice call 10%
Standby 9%
Newsreader 7%
Phone not active 6%
Google services 2%
All together 100%.
Example 2:
On battery 10 hours using 50% battery or roughly 5% battery per hour.
Screen 55%
Android-System 8%
Android-OS 9%
Voice call 7%
Standby 5%
Newsreader 7%
Phone not active 7%
Google services 2%
All together 100%.
One should think that Android-System and Android-OS drains more in example 1 than it does in example 2 ... but I think it's the opposit!
Example 1 Android-OS have been using 21% of those 1.65% --> 0.33% per hour.
Example 2 Android-OS have been using 9% of those 5% --> 0.45% per hour.
Would someone PLS verify that I understood it correctly, or feel free to correct me if I'm wrong
You are 100% correct!

Disclaimer: This is what sounds logic to me and what I think is how it works. Now I have no specific knowledge about battery so this might be completely wrong.
First read this, or don't but it makes it easier to understand.
Now going on in that trend lets say you have a gas tank of 100l liters (same as 100% battery). In your first example 43% got lost, so 43 liters. 21% of the 43 liters got drained by the hole. Thus 43*,21=9,03 liters.
Second example: 50 liters total drained, 9% by the hole. Thus 50*,09=4,5 liters.
So the first example drained more.

Yes you might be right ... but what about the time factor?
Agree that in example 1 OS uses more juice than in example 2, but over a much longer time. Meaning less average drain!

Factor in the "leak"(drainage) over time and you can see the OP's point.
Scenario 1 : 9.03/26h = 0.35/h
Scenario 2 : 4.5/10h = 0.45/h
The actual RATE of loss/drainage is more important.
This might give someone with lots of spare time to tabulate a league table of battery dissipation/drainage for different ROMs/firmwares. Or more interestingly across different devices using stock ROMs (eg SGS2 vs Sensation vs Atrix vs LG2X, etc)
I agree, but the first example drained more but slower and the second less but faster.

..and hence the battery in the first scenario will last longer than the second, assuming both start at the same capacity.
We are now on the same page
no matter what, there is a bug! compared to other 2.3.3 phones, my nexus one has been unplugged 7.5 hours right now, with 1 hour of screen-on time. and my android OS is reading 2%, 2 minutes usage. that is TWO MINUTES. that is the way its supposed to read. i've gone 24 hours with 12 minutes usage for android OS.
somethign is just not right with the SGS2 reading...
I need to revise maths once again
but this discussion somewhat helps to clear the confusion

Does the battery have a "break in" period?

I got my GS4 yesterday and charged it to 100% last night for the first time. Today I'm at 62% battery with only 1h 15m screen time. Is there a break in period? This seems kind of bad to me. I've used that hour looking at Tumblr a little, reading the news with Firefox Beta a little. Some light texting. Four songs on Spotify over Bluetooth during my commute.
The first two days were disappointing for me...then by the fourth or fifth day the battery lasted like a champ.
I'm experiencing the same issue, 31% 13h 27 min on time, 3h 2 screen time
My battery came pre charged @ 60%
Charged it and used it for about 17 hours with 4 hours screen time and it still had like 30 - 40 %
But ... I'm charging my phone that was @40 % and it's taking over 4 hours to charge that 60% ....
I saw improved battery life after a few days on both of my S4 so I would assume yes it needs at least a few days to break in.
Swyped via my Samsung GALAXY S4 using xda premium
Yup, both mine took maybe 3 full charge-discharge cycles.

Battery Life lately....?

I noticed about 3ish weeks ago that my battery was depleting at a faster rate than before on my GoldenEye 4.2.2 ROM
Here's where it gets strange...
Regardless of my screentime I think that my battery depletes the same...right now I have had 56min on screen time and my battery is 48%
I tested how much time I could get out of my phone, and I can go from 100% to 0% with about 4ish hours of screen time....
I seriously feel that I'm getting more efficient usage by having my screen ON rather than off...
Here's my stats right now
Screen: 37% 56 minutes
Cell Standby 25%
Media Server 15%
Device Idle 7%
Skype 5%
Android OS 4%
Android System 2%
Seriously, whats going on? why is my battery being depleted so much with so little screentime???????
It's something Google did with the new update of Google services. No one knows exactly what it is tho.

What's with the battery life?

51% battery left, barely an hour of SoT. Yuck.
Yea, the US version of this phone sucks down the battery in standby mode. Shame on Samsung for releasing this crap. I'm thinking about taking it back before my 14 weeks are up.
The issue isn't standby mode. I had my phone on overnight and it only drained 5% over 7 hours. It's when I started using it intermittently during the day that the battery started getting creamed. And it's on wifi, no less.
The battery life on mine is great, US version Sprint.
Currently 16% left, 12h 15m and 5h 30m Screen time.
Looks like a rogue app eating it up.
