Hi Guys,
Just a heads up that in November I'll be supporting the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 on my site.
I'm making a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Community Links page for all Samsung Galaxy Note 2 owners. Obviously most of the links or resources will link back to XDA Developers, but the intention is to have the most relevant Galaxy Note 2 owner or new owner info in one quick-to-access place, especially for noobs who don't yet know about XDA.
The HTC Desire HD ROM lists will continue to be updated, as quite a few people still access the site for those lists. I'm getting the Galaxy Note 2 in November, so I'm waiting until then to test and see everything work on the device for myself (as I've done with the Desire HD).
Not everyone knows about XDA, so it's nice to introduce people to here.
If you'd like to send me your ideas of essential info or shortcuts, feel free to do so, via PM here at XDA or via the site.
Cheers.
Isnt that why we have stickies? Why go to your site to only hqve to come here anyway?
Sent from my GT-P3100 using xda premium
Yeah, that's right. For us regulars the stickies are easy to spot. For new people who don't know about XDA, they might appreciate a page with a few quick shortcuts to information. I think that's why the same people keep visiting the site to check the Desire HD rom list. It's a little quicker than searching through the development section.
I'm making it anyway. I love this stuff! :good:

This is all just a hobby for me, and so I went ahead and made a quick page here of Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Community Links.
As I mentioned before, it is primarily aimed at people who don't know about XDA yet (and therefore can't see the stickies - because they don't know XDA exists). Most of it links to XDA. I'll be adding other stuff and hopefully a few kind folk will recommend some other useful things which should be added, when I can get around to it.
I got my Galaxy Note 2 on release day here in Japan, on the 16th of November. I totally love it! :good:
If you think the page is worthy, please share it around on Facebook, Google+, Etc.
Just giving this thread a gentle nudge in case the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Community Links page can interest other members too.
Thanks to those of you who have given positive feedback here and there.:good:
Thanks for the inclusion of the Lowyat.net forum.

A quick explanation about the "versions" you see on the main page. Due to some database performance constraints, the mods ask that each thread contain only about 2500 posts, after which the "topic starters (TS)" or OP in XDA parlance need to start a new version.
I've also placed grantbarker.com in post 5 as additional resources.

What's the difference between the your xda group and say the xda forum section dedicated to the Galaxy?
Honest question, not trying to be funny.
A bit redundant really.

If we get all of the Galaxy devices working together we can acomplish a lot more! We are not enemies, we need to help each other. Developers and the community as a whole are needed to make our devices the best available.

how does that explains what the group is all about? I think we all read and post the galaxy s forums.. or did i miss smth?
It's the point that now there is one place that everyone can look at for the most important things.
Ok... this is kinda dumb... what do you think the XDA forums are for.. I don't need spam.. so i'm out.
Seriously? What are the points of groups then. Obviously ignorance is bliss in this community. If groups are organized accordinally, they can ultimately benefit the society of any device much more then the forums can.
Tell all of them to join here and sod off numbnuts.

What's so official about it? I think you made a typo in your title, because if it were official, Samsung would have started it, or at least endorse it. Have they?
The fact you need to be part of the group to even see group comments to me suggests it will actually reduce collaboration slightly. It's more of a exclusive little community (the title says so themselves), and I don't like to feel part of some exclusive little club, I want to share with the community.
Sorry, I don't think I'll join. Either way, you can't just share ROM's between the devices, because they do contain some different hardware. There are good reasons for keeping the various i9000 variants separate in the forums
This is just my opinion (no offense)

Since your so against it, why is everyone else for it?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=764084
Why join a bunch of dead forums with no developers and no developers that own an actual i9000?
Ran in plenty of forums that copy-paste xda, don't see the need for another one.
Dead forums??? Captavate is very alive, the Epic just came out, and the Fasinate isnt out yet....you are very naive
The fact that you are here truong to get everyone to join your other forum shows the success of this forum already... Why don't ya suck a hind tit and get lost.
Sent from my GT-I9000M using Tapatalk
Whoa calm down everyone, no need to be brash about this and start telling the OP to 'suck a hind tit'.
What he's trying to say his, user AllGamer proposed that we should merge all sub forums into one, but that's obviously not going to happen, so correct me if i'm wrong, the OP has created a group for ALL Galaxy S user variants to join, and share info, which means we can collectively figure things out etc. I think it's a decent idea, but time will tell.
Stop attacking the OP and get on with it, if you don't want to join, DON'T, if you do, DO, so simple yet some people want to argue. This is a friendly forum, not a *****y one.

I do agree stuff like that shouldn't be said. However, this doesn't change the fact that there is reason to be concerned that "whosdaman" is misleading people about the group's "official" status, especially when he is the maintainer. There is nothing official about it, and he is now WELL aware of it, but still hasn't changed this topic..
Also, he still hasn't changed the comment viewing permissions. You still MUST be a member to read any information, which seems to suggest he has a greater interest in boosting numbers than encouraging cooperation.
I think this social group is good for general discussion (well, would be if he opened it up), but central group's aren't really suitable for development, because these phones are slightly different. Until it becomes public though it is a step backwards (particularly long term, because I am unsure if Google indexes sign-up-to-read groups on this forum)
If its not broken, don't fix it.
Obviously a lot of you know that I run another forum, but the point of my post is not to try to recruit people over there, but to ask the mods here or the people posting with important information like firmwares, backups, dumps and mods, to help.
I have been noticing a lot of information posted on the galaxy tablet thread that is spread out all over the place and is very unorganized. We need to make sure when we post something that we make sure it says VZW, TMO, SPRINT, AT&T or whatever!
I have separated these section on my forums to limit the possibility of people screwing their tablets up with the wrong files. Feel free to throw a copy of the important post you made here on my forums if you want to keep it documented in a section thats it was made for. Other than that I am just asking to specify it accordingly here. Maybe we can do something like (VZW) in the front of the title or something.
XDA does a great job on keeping the forums neat, but with something this broad we need to separated it.
... Thoughts???
PM me the site you mention.
I agree that some prefix tags would be good. With vbulletin its easy enough to create selectable prefixes from a drop down menu also, so not too much hassle to set-up either.

UK/US markup might be an idea too.
the majority of us here at xda are talking about the eu version - GT-P1000
your forum has only the us tabs in subforums... this will confuse europeans even more

Good point . Personally I'd be happy to see a sub-section for all the posts about Verison/AT&T/sprint and how to use the device as a phone etc. I'm sure it must be confusing for those with devices that are unlocked and have phone capability to wander through so many threads about things that are of no concern to them.
organization should be as follows:
GSM galaxy tab forum(atnt,tmo)
CDMA galaxy tab forum(sprint,verizon)
in each thread header your carrier should be listed by 3 letters eg.(att, spr, ver, tmo) then topic eg.( [theme],[rom],etc...)
this would keep things organized. if dev is to get anywhere on this device, organization is key...also many are noobs that flash roms for the wrong device; i feel that if its listed like this its your own fault if you cant read...As is i can see pps flashing roms for wrong device...wont happen to me but than again, im not your everyday android user..
i read post of someone noting that most users here have/are referring to euro version of tab. that is just selfish and inconsiderate...logic dictates that if the device was released 1st in europe than more in europe would have one...well it was released in U.S fairly recently and already there are many here posting using U.S models. this is xdA dev which DOES NOT specify EUROPEAN ONLY SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB DEVELOPMENT..many of us are AMERICAN. please be considersate and consider adding structure to your forum posts so we can get this tab to the top of the food chain where it deserves to rest as the undisputed champ @ this point in time....oranization people!!!
It should actually be at least two forum categories:
Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 which would cover most of the world and most of the devices sold (or flashed to P1000 standards).
Crippled North American Tabs. It can then have a "Even More Crippled North American Tabs" subforum for CDMA versions.
As mentioned above, many "CNAT" owners would migrate up to the P1000 forum after they've flashed to that standard, leaving the "EMCNAT" owners a nice quiet place to hang out, where they can never answer the question of "Can you hear me now?".
Note that I'm a CNAT owner.
@all moderators
due to the high number of new threads about new roms and other and due to the high number of discontinued roms and thread, I want to propose a new rule: all owner of rom/thread that decide to stop relasing, support or other must write at the beginning of the thread title "discontinued since...." and the date of that communication.
With this, all the people that want news, support, new relase or other, doesn't lose time in writing question and waiting for never coming answare and chefs and others don't lose time to answare about something they don't want more...

Or better chnage the title of the thread like [discontinued]
Then you can see inthe thread list what roms are still in progress and not.

Some people do the right thing - for example: capychimp [EOL] or m-deejay [Discontinued]. (2 quick examples)
It is a good idea. I posted this thread fairly recently to hopefully tidy things up from my end. (I like to keep an up-to-date list on my site, which I check a few times a day.)

Good suggestion. I sometime feel lost searching for the threads here
Rules are good but what about all the other rules on this forum that are broken every day. Look how many application questions are in the general and questions section. How about how many times somebody asks what's the best ROM? Or somebody asks should I change/upgrade phones. The forum is loaded with NOOB questions that have no place in this forum to begin with. How can you even begin to search when the forum is flooded with threads such as these?
But yet you can go to the development section and within 5 minutes browse through the first few pages and get all the info you need about ROMS. Open the thread up and see when the thread was last updated by the developer. Even if the developer has not updated lately there still are others that help and add to the ROMS.
I guess what I am trying to say is why keep putting all the rules and regulations on the developers when it is the noobs causing this forum to be so unsearchable.
Hey all.
I find myself wondering two things, and thought it best to post it here. Been lurking for some time, love it here.
My first question deals with all the ROMs that are posted here, it's possible questions like this already exists in another thread so please direct me there as my searches didn't turn up anything. For those of us who aren't tech savvy to the point of knowing every abbreviation, technical detail and such, and even for the sake of practicality, is it a good idea to require that developers post a few lines about what their ROM actually does and what sets it apart?
Some ROMs do this, others don't. ParanoidAndroid is the first that comes to mind here at the Note section, where the developers explain in detail what it actually does. Other ROMs, I find, take it for granted that people will understand what this rom does or is about, and so we have to look around or maybe visit their home page or even try it out before discovering if it suits our purposes. Any rules or regulations on this sort of thing already? There are plenty of ROMs here, and instead of flashing every single one it seems appropriate to be offered a short explanation instead-
Secondly, I just bought a Valentinus (by Spigen) case, and want to do a review - where do I post that?
Have a great weekend.
I agree with you !
I think that ROM Chefs should write a brief description on what makes their ROM differ from the rest, There are a lot of similar ROMs out there at the moment, Not that it bothers me as i like how the development is so big.
I usually read the threads and get peoples opinions before flashing, That gives me an insight on what to expect from that particular ROM, But as i just said, A little description wouldnt go a miss
Oh and as for your case review, That should be in the Accessories Section, Theres a thread all about cases in there, you may want to add it into that!
Greets.
I agree. A few lines should be plenty, a brief description so we don't have to go through the 50+ pages and scour thru user problems, queries and other trivial matters. When we have so many roms, it is essential to get an overview. One master thread, sort of like the huge review list they have over at head-fi, detailing contents and function.
Thanks for the tip on the reviews.
Cheers.

A short description will do no harm to any
If the dev is busy, the dev should ask any of the community users sure there are a lot there to help,

We had a similar discussion in one of the threads. If you go to the note wiki page you can find the list of kernels and roms available and their features. Thou this is in its early stage, after updating that list it will be a lot helpful

This forum should be kept as place to mods, questions, news, and other development that pertains to all non quad core galaxy s3's because then we will still be able to expand on all of our phones at once instead being limited to our section only. I think the device thread separation was necessary but we should still have a place for stuff that pertains to us all
I'm confused. Isn't that what it is now? General section for AT&T, T-Mobile, Spring, and Verizon Galaxy S3's
Edit - just saw that it's all getting broken out into subforums again. Lame.
I concur

The merge was initially done because we had high hopes that everyone would play in the sandbox nicely. Sadly this did not happen to the level we hoped for, although do not misunderstand, there was a lot of carrier-independent collaboration going on. It also ended up being a nightmare to keep clean and [relatively] free of clutter due to threads not being labeled correctly.
The Accessories sections have been merged with the International section, so clicking those links will take you to a one stop shop for advice on what to buy for your newest toy. Of course the Development and Original Development sections will continue as well.
Let's make the best of this situation. With some help from everyone, we can get everything sorted in a day or two. In the meantime, new threads should NOT be created in this section. It just increases our workload.

I prefer my own section for my device. I certainly did not like having to sift through all of the Verizon locked bootloaders, Tmobile data questions, and AT&T locked LTE data switch threads. I fully support development ports from one device to another, but no need to combine all of the general sections of each device into one major one.
