If your streak 5 no longer have phone capability - Streak 5 General

there is this hardware called N2 Gmate or Gmate skyroam... or any similar hardware ...
those hardware will either make the streak 5 into dual sim or as an alternative for restoring phone capability to your streak 5 (in case you bricked it and restore using jtag or the phone capability just gone)...
any user who have tried it.. please put your feedback here so that it helps people in deciding to use it...
thank you and good luck to all :good:

Has Anyone thought about Face Detection software

Has anyone ever thought about developing a face detection software program for Diamond/Pro which could act as another security feature to protect our phones? Maybe a good idea. Opinions about this as well.
The idea is good. But just thinking it may require a lot of resources to run this application and drain out battery easily. It is good for TP, but not TD

I have been doing some searches and software is there for Mobile Phones but as yet not for pocket PC's that I can see. I notice the Nokia N96 on sale through 3 mobile Australia has it in its specs. Not sure how much space it would take up but I am sure that a phone with expandable memory (Unfortunately the Diamond doesn't have it) would definately be able to use it and personally I could not see the software taking up over 1gb of memory so the Diamond should be ok. Facial recognition is now available on Laptops running Vista so I am hoping that Windows Mobile 7 has it as part of the update when it comes out although I would like it prior to 2010 when WM7 gets released.
not really diamond specific. youd be better off suggesting in general software creation forum

Maybe it could have but as the Diamond and Pro appear to be more technologically advanced compared to previous HTC Phones (obviously due to being newer) I would expect this latest technology would be more compatible to these phones.
They'd not only steal your phone but cut off your head as well in order to use the phone.

I suppose its the same worldwide, but I know in Australia Mobile Phones are one of the main items of theft from a person and yes unfortunately violence accompanies many of them. Haven't come accross any heads been cut off yet here as yet but knowing society it wouldn't unfortunately surprise me if it did happen one day. I do believe though that we need to make it less enticing to steal our expensive phones. I know here the HTC PRO cost around $1300 outright or $32 a month if on a phone plan over 24 months equaling $768 which is a bit cheaper but then you are stuck with the one phone company regardless. Even if your phone got stolen you lose the dead money regardless so why not make it as least enticing as possible.
I think it is very good idea, there need not to be battery drain, you can activate recognition for example on access to Contacts or message store

[Q] worst phone in the world

Htc hd mini , is the worst phone i have buy , i think i shell and buy htc hd 2 and finally i find a good phone .. possibility to flash rom , all program run , games etc etc ..
mini is bad becouse fondamentally because resolution of screen isn't supported by a lot of program / application , so phone result particular , an labouriosly ..
really pity because , this phone is for dimension one of the best ..
That you can't handle the Mini doesn't mean that the phone sucks. Really, if you had done your research before buying this phone..you would have known that the resolution can be bit of a problem. Until now I have found enough applications that just work on the Mini. With a bit of reading you can find many solutions for the so called problems you experience... If you wanna have a working phone out of the box, I can recommend an Iphone.

one more frustrated...if you buy a phone without to check if it suits your needs...is not HTC HD Mini fault!
I usually do a lot of research before i buy tech stuff. Cellphones, laptop, digicam, etc.
What inspired me to get mini was HTC Magic. I don't want a virtual qwerty phone that requires me to use 2 hands to type. Most touch screen phones are qwerty. Very few have T9-equipped numeric pad.
I saw a friend sporting a brand new Magic one day. So i gave it a test drive. To see how Android works. And also, to check out what's all these fuzz on "HTC" was all about. i was instantly captivated by the virtual keypad. I thought i'd never switch to full touchscreen because of the lack of proper virtual keypad. But now, i see the perfect keypad for touchscreen. With T9, and switchable English-Chinese.
But then, I will never cross over to Android at the point in time. Because of Google's war with Microsoft, they made sure to deny or cripple interconnection to anything "pc" or "windows". i hate the "everything in the cloud" concept. It will never survive for me.
So my research finally brought me to a touchscreen phone, with Windows Mobile, and the exact Magic keypad... HTC HD mini.
I made sure to check it first on gsmarena.com review to see that this keypad is also available in HD mini.
.... and the rest is history.
And yeah, i still hate the "everything in the cloud" concept. So, as long as Google wages war with Microsoft, and continue to enforce its "war of attrition" crazy attitude, i can never cross over to Android. I need any phone i buy to work smoothly with my pc, and Windows system.
I dont get sucha type of posts, whats the point writing subjective crapp like that in a HD Mini section where all ppl usualy have that phone and are not up to change that? So enjoy your HD "showel" 2 phone and stop posting subjective crapp opinions based on your lame reading, flashing, handling the Mini skills.

[Q] Feedback about the 'asked' features of the phone

Friends, have already heard the complaints about Lags, Music crackling, and bad battery (mainly the screen is responsible).
Besides this I would like to know the following:
- How is the 5MP Camera with dual-LED flash?
Comparable or better than that of HTC Desire or Galaxy S
- The physical QWERTY - Is it fun and really fast to type with it? How's the adjustment to tap the screen to send the message after typing. (normally a scrollball or touch pad would do the job faster).
- 3D gaming - How's it the 3D performance, do all the Android High-End games run smoothly.
-The new email system or software implemented - Does it support Inline message editing of forwarded Emails?
- Can you do a T9 contact search directly from the Desktop? Is there a T9 dialer?
How is the 5MP Camera with dual-LED flash? - just fine
Comparable or better than that of HTC Desire or Galaxy S - not even a valid comparison
- The physical QWERTY - Is it fun and really fast to type with it? How's the adjustment to tap the screen to send the message after typing. (normally a scrollball or touch pad would do the job faster). Awesome keyboard, how is pressing something quicker than touching something?
- 3D gaming - How's it the 3D performance, do all the Android High-End games run smoothly. don't know
-The new email system or software implemented - Does it support Inline message editing of forwarded Emails? - nope
- Can you do a T9 contact search directly from the Desktop? Is there a T9 dialer? no, and yes.
I hated the on screen keyboard of my HTC Desire. What ever HTC did to the keyboard it seems like its even harder to type than with the stock keyboard.
Not making a mistake every sentence is wonderful.
Hi guys,
I'm seriously considering buying this phone. So I thought I could just add up to this post rather than start a new thread asking questions about the features.
I didn happen to notice this thread and sent the same given below as a PM to Jibriel
So let me outline my buying rationale I want a blackberry-ish phone which I can use without a blackberry rate data plans in India. I want this phone to do primarily one thing, sync gtalk and gmail / facebook perfectly. I can take a hit on other functions but not this. I am a noob so one or 2 of my questions will be pretty dumb.
1. Where to buy the phone?
I'm in India. So will it suffice if I buy the phone from amazon wireless with the replacement phone option
wireless.amazon.com/dp/B004AM5AWM (i cannot post links as this is my first post so not providing it as a hyperlink).
Is there any better option available. I know people traveling to and from the US, so shipping within continental US option will do and I dont need a world shipping option.
2. How do I unlock?
So apparently from other posts I see a guy can provide a 8 numerical unlock code to unlock the phone for other GSM carries. So if I buy the phone using option 1, will the same $8 trick work for me.
3. Now for dumb question, I want to know if Gtalk is running in background and if someone sends me an IM then will I be notified of the IM automatically? Or should I refresh the app manually to get latest updates? Same thing for facebook.
I have long commute to work. So this answer will be major influencing factor on my buying decision.
4. How is the call quality? I have some hearing difficulties. But its not bad enough to use a hearing aid. I have heard some issue with call qualities being poor. Is anyone using an unlocked phone with GSM carries experienced any issues? Bad lemons are ones luck, just trying to determine if issue is widespread.
I know my list is long. But I dont want to spend $449 just because I would really like to own it. Any inputs/feedback on the above questions will be greatly appreciated.

// Buy it from Amazon, eBay or anywhere else your gonna get the same phone. Some of the sites are selling it unlocked and some really cheap. I got mine for $611 and happen to see a a few sites selling for less, so do your research carefully.
2. How do I unlock?

// Yes the SwiftUnlock guy will give you the code for $8 and he delivers really fast. After that the process of setting up your phone is fairly simple.
3. Now for dumb question, I want to know if Gtalk is running in background and if someone sends me an IM then will I be notified of the IM automatically? Or should I refresh the app manually to get latest updates? Same thing for facebook.

// Android has evolved significantly and most messaging apps support Push notification. If you aren't aware Facebook now supports Chat & Push notification. GTalk will do the same, but I have removed it as it runs as a service hence draining battery and consuming RAM - I suggest using Fring instead.
// Phone, speaker and speaker phone clarity is far supperior than Blackberry and even the Galaxy S. The camera is also just right for your daily photo shots. Flash is nice and bright. The phone overall is just right out of the box (except the bloatware) which can be removed via Titanium backup. Cell reception and surfing on GPRS is very fast. The touchscreen is very responsive and multi-touch can be compared to that of an iPhone.
The scrolling of web paged is smooth as silk and apps operate really fast.
ITS A MUST BUY COMPARED TO BLACKBERRY?
I know my list is long. But I dont want to spend $449 just because I would really like to own it. Any inputs/feedback on the above questions will be greatly appreciated.

Just one more question. Will the unlock procedure used void warranty? and does motorola offer international warranty for Droid Pro?
I'm not talking about rooting. But just unlocking it to work with GSM carriers in India.

No it doesn't void the Warranty. Besides where are you going to find the support for Verizon phones in India. If something goes wrong, Motorola India is not going to provide any support since the phone isn't officially available here and neither do they have the hardware to support it.
....Unless you have means to send it back to the US.
i know a few ppl who will be travelling to n fro for the next couple of months. So worst case some1 can take it back and return it. So thats why I prefer to buy from amazon if its few $$ more expensive than ebay and other stuff.
but yah i got all the info i to convince me to blow $449
i will get the handset only in 2nd week of jan then i will strt a new thread for the set up procedures

A play store fix is provided which is helpful but installation of it is not properly stated in video and caused me to fail first time
corrections are stated below:
download es file manager, once downloaded remember to mount system as writable at bottom in settings of application
also download s3market files provided, i have never used other file provided for calender etc it has no use in mtk6575 versions of the device
store s3market on root of sdcard
copy files within one by one, not together to system location shown
install the com.android.vending-3.5.16.apk file provided in s3market.
fix permissions in properties of files shown
then reboot device
what i have corrected in the procedure will fix the stopped unexpectedly error 100% if done correctly in mtk6575 phones of this device
I'm curious, how do these phones compare to the real thing? I gave up on clone phones after receiving a very bad quality ciphone 09..
Visually Stunning, Functionally a failure...
Be Warned, the HDC Galaxy S3 especially from fastcardtech are not worth the money and mental anguish to get the thing rooted. They come with Gingerbread, and Locked, and full of Chinese Apps. Once you free of that, the Google Sync is limited, so you cannot get your mail, calender, etc synced. Then there is Colonel Zap which is mysteriously the only person in the world prone to be able to root these devices, but be warned again. Only unless you specifically know your Chipset in your phone, MT6577 or 6575, good luck with that, you should be wary of rooting per Col Zap, as in my case, there process bricked one of my two phones from FastCardTech. And don't get me going on FastCardTech, they are complete B.S., takes over a month to accomplish anything, then they send you the lesser model than you pay for. Doesn't matter all the FREE CRAP you will be offered with this phone, doesn't make up for the fact that is is just a great looking shell with poor electronics inside.
Look these phones are from CHINA, the specs offered online are fiction, and are burnt into the kernel of the phone,so it only appears that you are getting what it states online. you are only getting a phone capable of meager performance, NO 4g, 3g, but at lower speeds if your are lucky enough to fit the Mobile Frequency Spectrum the phone runs in, being their made in China, not a U.S. friendly phone in that aspect. Wi-fi is spotty, and the software is crap, bottom line you get what you pay for, and not many resources to get you through the hard times. Good Luck.....!! At least it looks like the real thing you can show off to your friends while they laugh at you.....
Specs do not match and support is very poor
I bought the "Ultimate pro" version from FastcardTech.com (as a new member i am not allowed to post the link) and it does not meet the specs given by them. The GPS took about 2 hours outside to determine my position. After a factory defaults reset i could not find the strength to do this again
The CPU is not the 6577, but the slower 6575. The camera quality is very poor. The wifi signal is very, very weak. (i have a very good and strong router) The sound quality of a phone call is poor. The 'gsm sound' disturbes the conversation all the time, as if you are to close to a speaker. When you complain to FCT, don't expect any customer support. They give to most strange answers and can give no specific support what so ever. After some time, they say i can return the phone, but it's allmost impossible to meet their requirements, so i am pretty sure that when the have it back, i will never hear from them again. (just read the customer feedback on any honest site)
Including tax, shipping and insurance, i paid about 250 euo's for this phone.
If i had known this all on time, i would not have bought it.
But on the other hand, the responsiveness and quality of the screen is good. Gaming goes smooth and after countless factory defaults, i have managed to turn off most Chinise apps, without losing the nice 'Samsung startscreen'.
All together is not such a bad phone after all, but its not what i counted on in the first place.
Now i am curious about if there will be any tweaks possible. Rooting, custom firmware etc...
I am willing to help if possible.
Kind regards,
Coupedevil

Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience. It's disappointing to read how unprofessional some of these shops are It's one thing when they mess up the specs on pre-release products but this shouldn't happen with a phone that has been available for so long. Looks to me like they simply sent the wrong phone to begin with. Their lack of knowledge of even FCE-level English makes it so much worse
I'm looking at chinastore-online to get the Jiayu G2+. The shop at least claims some customer-friendly terms, but so far I've yet to hear from anyone who made a purchase there.
So hang on you've bought an obvious Chinese knock off and your surprised to find its crap? If your interested I can do you a great price on some magic beans (cash or bank transfer only).

I have this galaxy s3 mt6575 clone, same as in the pictures in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1921178
I also had troubles getting the gps to work and started to think it didnt work at all.
But lately I have managed to get some gps signal to work.
I did flash the cwm recovery and have now installed the Lewa rom for it.
google "LeWa For Samsung Galaxy S3 MTK6575" to find the rom if you want to try.
Not sure if it was that rom that made the gps work or not, because I also did install an app named GPS Booster, as well as the u-center gps test app, and the GPS Test app.
Now I get enaugh signal to get my position. But the antenna is weak I think, so I need to be outdoor and have clear weather and clear view to the sky to get it to work. I did not test it in the car yet, but I think it might be to weak to work reliably inside the car.
i just bought the MTK6577 (s3 mimic)
and i want to change his rom (its already rooted)
what rom will work at this device?

evice suggestions for demonstration of JTAG benefits

I tried to get some help in the Q&A section, but it appears this is more technical/hardware seeking question than just generic "which phone" thread.
I have been suggested Samsung Galaxy Spica/i5700 by boofman (thank you), but the device is cost prohibitive.
I would very much appreciate anyone's suggestion.
I am planning a presentation to demonstrate the benefits of JTAG for data recovery on embedded systems. The audience has approx. 12th grade education, but higher than average computer understanding.
I have most of the equipment already, including a uLINK2, Bus Blaster, and Raspberry Pi for the UART-to-USB, and OpenOCD for the software.
What I am missing is the simplest cell phone (or other inexpensive embedded device) to make the demonstration.
I would like to connect to the device and list the devices on the JTAG chain, and recover the data from them.
What cell phone brand and model would work well for this presentation?
I would need to know the JTAG points, have access to the data sheets of the onboard chips, and since it is out of my own pocket, I hope to get the phones on eBay for a low price.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Check out gsm-forum, under the hardware repair section.
Googling for jtag pins and your phone model number usually works for me. I'd assume you might have to wait a little bit for brand new devices, unless you feel like scoping the pins to find out which is which or hope their labeled.
These individuals are not kids. :fingers-crossed:
Excellent resource at the other site. Thanks!
But, I think I do not think I made myself clear regarding what I am looking for:crying:. I am not looking for info on how to JTAG a specific phone.
I am looking for 3 or 4 of the same model of cell phone that
I can pick up on eBay or similar for reasonable price (<$30/phone),
the JTAG TAP is known on the motherboard, and
it would be a bonus if the JTAG command set was known (besides the basic requirement).
This would allow me to make test run on one of the phones, then demonstrate the use of JTAG on the others.
The Samsung Galaxy Spica is a good phone, but I do not have the budget at $100+/phone. I need to find something cheaper. It does not need to be fancy telephone, or even smart phone - just have sufficient JTAG documentation.
If anyone has any ideas on what to use for this demo, I am still in need of a good idea.
You can look into any of the older HTC phones for this. I think that would be your best bet. I've done plenty of hardware repair, disassembling, reassambling, flashing, etc... on Android, & non-Android phones, & from my experience, the older HTC phones are the best. Specifically, concentrate on the GSM ones, such as for T-Mobile. Look into HTC myTouch 3G Slide (awesome little thing) , HTC G2 (one of the best keyboard phones ever), myTouch 4g, myTouch 4G Slide (overheating, self-destructing piece of crap), even the HD2 & the HD7. These are all devices that you can get for around $30 or so with a cracked, but still working digitizer, or some other kind of problem. Screens & other parts for them are very cheap as well.
Also, these are all known to RIFF Box. Look it up. You can do JTAG repair with these, & RIFF Box have all the JTAG ports labeled & documented. They might have some of the documentation right on their site, but I'm not totally sure. Anyway, check it out & see. I think this will be exactly what you're looking for.
Excellent! Thank you very much.
I have looked at looked at many commercial products, including RIFF Box. I narrowed the selections down the RIFF and ORT, but they are both very expensive for demonstration purposes.
I do love the fact that one can buy "jigs", "clips" or "adapters" (names change depending on vendors) which removes the soldering requirements for some of the phones. Except, these are still very expensive. :cyclops:
Again, thanks. I will look into these.

You can look into any of the older HTC phones for this. I think that would be your best bet. I've done plenty of hardware repair, disassembling, reassambling, flashing, etc... on Android, & non-Android phones, & from my experience, the older HTC phones are the best. I'd go with Galaxy S 1 as it's really cool to work on and relatively well documented and demonstration on such stuff always looks well. But if you want something low-budget. I've seen JTAG pads on Nokia E50'ish stuff. Or try with some Samsung S3000's, these are pretty cheap. But I don't know how's JTAG there.
as @3ndymion218 told you , search old HTc .. also some Samsung that I think cheap could help too .
Samsung F480 , F490 , U700 , U900 etc ... some news Corby model also .. I think cheap .
I could help if you were near to me . I have 3 phones that I could offer you ...
Thank you for the further info.
Definitely will try to track down the HTC and Nokia information.
Samsung is a bit pricy as you said, but maybe down the road.
Again, thank you all!
