Whenever I start Google Navigation, either from maps or on it's own, I keep getting the message 'waiting for location' and 'searching for gps', even though my gps is locked. I have tried clearing map data and cache then starting again, but am still getting the same problem.
I have no problems using Google maps and getting a gps lock.
My nexus 7 has just been updated to v4.1.2 and is rooted and unlocked with no custom recovery installed. Everything is still on stock too.
Can anyone help?
Thankyou.
Would it be because I am rooted?
I have been googling with no success
Rooting is not the problem as I have used it and gotten it to work. Since the N7 has no data connection and probably no wifi connection while you're out you would need to have the map area cached.

I've only tried to use it indoors with my wifi (my gps locks on indoors fine). I can't get past the 'waiting for location' message. I'm sure it worked fine before I rooted and unlocked it using wug.
Are you on 4.1.2? Just wondering if that's causing the problem.
Everything else works fine.
How weird!! Google Earth wouldn't find my location either so I re-booted my Nexus (yet again) and now Navigation has started working along with Google Earth!
I had already re-booted my nexus several times before, but nothing changed, so I don't know what happened this time to make things work properly?
Peace has been restored.... for now!

I am having the same problem but I am not rooted and rebooting doesn't help. With GPS on (confirmed with GPS Test), if I do not have WiFi available I cannot get location info in Maps (but I can in CoPilot). I have tried rebooting several times.

I recently upgraded my Google Mpas (I was prompted inside Google Maps) and now it doesn't seem to work as well as it used to.
I am using the DCD 2.2.0 ROM for my Titan.
What happens is now it will say "seeking satellites (0)" and "GPS Active (0)" and not find any satellites. Usually it shows me as in the middle of the ocean some where. Sometimes it will flash between "GPS Active (5)" and "GPS Active (0)", but still won't work. Like I said, it was fine before I upgraded Google Maps (about 2 weeks ago). Anyone have any ideas what's causing this?
Just did the google map update today and seems to work fine.. Took a long time to get a lock but once it did it was right on.
I am using verizon and DCD 3.04...
I just upgraded to that Rom my self on my Telus P4000 , did you remember to put the GPS Hardware on Com5? cus i know mine turned itself off once i just set it back to Com5 and it worked perfectly again, and that problem never happen again...
Hopfuly this helps, if not, im sorry, i tried lol ^_~.V cheers

mine did same thing - a soft-reset fixed all the issues, google now works great
I had issues with this as well. I went and set the location setting to off (911 only) then clicked ok. And then I went back in and turned location settings back on and it started working again.
make sure location settings are ON. also, try a few COM ports, 4 and 5 work for me, but 3 is by far the best port on my phone.
From what is posted on this site...Gps is supposed to be set at com 4 at 4800....Gps works will alot better if "primed" with other software before starting map applications...such software is gpsviewer , wififofum , visualgpsce (my recommedation)

im on the newest DCD rom 3.2.xx on the Telus HTC P4000 , i upgraded to the new google maps 2.1.xx and works just fine for me , your DCD rom is pritty dated now, might wana look in to upgrading it ^_^ hope i helps a bit
Agreed, check location setting
Start->Settings->Phone->Services Tab->Location Settings. Turn to "on" That's what happened on my titan when I upgraded. Took me 2 hours to figure it out.
Rooted my G1 yesterday for the first time and installed
GreenRomProject-Presents-CyanogenMod-7.1-D/S-08/06/2011
H-BOOT 1.33.013d
Radio 2.22.27.08
Everything seems to be fine EXCEPT my GPS isn't working - When I hit my location in maps it says to enable a My Location source in system settings - I have use GPS satellites checked and use wireless networks unchecked - if i check use wireless networks it will get me my location but doesnt solve the problem why GPS isn't working. Also when I use facebook and try to check-in with places, facebook crashes (I'm assuming its trying to use GPS and for some reason it can't).
I was having the facebook crashing problem prior to this and didnt notice if GPS was working or not prior to this so I'm wondering if something got messed up during the rooting of the phone or is my GPS somehow not enabled? I don't even get a satellite icon in maps or facebook. Any help ?
anyone ?????
try reflashing
Same problem here with Laszlo's Froyo, seems that switching on/off GPS in settings doesn't do anything. Normally I got a blue color on the LED, nothing happens there either.
Very fast MOD, but I definately want to get GPS working!
Rich
Try different ROM. See if you get the same problem.
Right, got it working. Don't know what did the trick, changed radio to v2.22.28.25 (from 2.22.27.08) and installed "GPS-test-plus" (gps-test-plus-version-1-1-3 from androidxmarket) after I started the gps-test program my location changed to the right one in my case from Holland to Sudan (!)
Maybe this could be helpful to anyone.
Glad everything works out.
Hi,
I've got an odd one I've only just noticed since the upgrade (though, I cannot guarantee that was the cause).
i can no longer get a GPS fix when using an app that calls for satellite data. The notify icon just keeps flashing. I've downloaded various GPS test apps and they all show no evidence of any signal. I've tried clearing AGPS data; clearing google maps data/cache; removing and re-installing google maps updates (all the usual suggested fixes for the previous 2.3 issues.
However, it WILL work if I unmount the SD card from the phone. it finds the satellites fine. But as soon as adding the card again, it fails.
I don't really want to reformat the card so I'm looking for suggestions of possible files to delete. So far, I've tried /mnt/sdcard/Android/data/com.google.android.maps/cache but that didn't work.
Any ideas on what else to wipe?
thanks
this problem also affect my phone, please help us
Had some success last night (until I got too tired and cold standing outside).
It seems to have something to do with the built in HTC Locations application. If I go onto the SD card and delete the files (with the exception of the default footprint images) within .data/navigation and reboot, then GPS works OK.
If I reinstall Locations and use the app (bring up maps, navigation mode etc) it will eventually kill off GPS again.
I'll try some more tests to be more specific, it seems to be important to fully reboot the device before testing for a GPS signal after making changes which is a bind...
I expect the final solution will be (if you want to keep a stock ROM unrooted and it's not later fixed by an upgrade) to delete some location files from the SD card, install an HTC Locations stopper application from the market - so that calendar and contacts stop bringing up Locations rather than Google maps - don't use any Locations widgets and avoid firing Locations up.
I have the same problem since I updated Radio version to 26.14.04.28_M. I tried many Roms (sens roms, Cyanogenmod, MIUI) and all has the same issue with GPS!!.
So I am waiting for new radio version!!
after Re-flashing 26.09.01.11_M2 Radio My phone can get GPS signal in less than 15 seconds and it's working perfectly!!
I have had this problem too
Will try the radio flash
Thanks mate
Sorry for the delay - it's just got weirder.
Even after trying the fixes I did below - it started behaving the same - no GPS satellites found (unless the SD card is pulled).
However, it works fine if I'm away from the house (half a mile or more). Different city, works fine etc. and it keeps working until I get near my home, then it can't find satellites (unless the SD card is pulled)....!!!!
Some local information is causing this but I've no idea. I've tried clearing the assisting data but that doesn't help.
Cheers for any suggestion.

did anyone get the fix for the GPS lock delay?
Cant get a lock after Sense3.0 update. Bad that HTC did not do proper testing.
In the end, I found out that it only wouldn't lock when I was at home - other locations were fine.
In the end I got it to work - for how long I don't know. But I switched off wifi and mobile data, then changed the config to not update location and time from mobile network. Shut down and then pulled the battery.
Started it up again. Turned on network time.
Waited a while, turned on mobile data. Waited a while and then rang a GPS tester and it worked (took a while to lock for the first time. Turned on wifi, checked again and it's been fine since.
The Achille's heel for desire hd has been its gps. It screws up after a few months anyway.

have you tried any other SDcard? If it works with another SDcard, download Titanium Backup (or any other backup app which allows you to backup online) and then buy the Titanium Backup Pro Key app or buy with PayPal and backup your apps, then sync to dropbox.
Watch the videos for both of the apps when in Market.
EDIT: NVM, but the backup app is recommended for everyone if you use to install custom ROMs.
Has anyone else noticed the maps app and the nav app not registering the gps signal? I checked the GPS with gps essentials and it works fine but the maps app and navigation don't get the signal. The gps icon shows locked on in the toolbar but says "waiting for location" in the nav app? This was working fine right before I did the 4.2 update..
Just updated along with 30 other app updates and don't have a problem with this.

Yes is all over the place...
Navigator starts and has a GPS fix on my location in less than 10 seconds. Under 4.1.2, it just kept searching. Maps worked, Navigator didn't. Seems our problem was ass-backwards.

I had this problem with the 4.1.2 update and a factory reset was finally needed to fix it.

That could be why mine now works. I when to 4.2 (from Trinity kernel), I went to stock 4.11.... Then to 4.2. Never thought that doing a clean install may have been what "cured" my problem. BTW...the only app that didn't work was Google Nav. Go figure.

My maps works if I have the Wi-Fi location source enabled but I want the GPS as the source, so only that is enabled and maps just searches as does navigation but if I open gps essentials with only gps enabled it works fine and gets at last five satellite real quick. Then I switch right to maps with a gps lock already established and it acts like gps is non-existent.. boo 4.2! I used this navigation app a lot damn it

Exactly what I saw after the 4.1.2 updare. A hard reset was needed to fix it.
I wiped and installed the factory 4.2 image to fix it. Drastic, but effective.

I am currently having this issue on the 4.2.1 update. Sygic seems to navigate fine, and my GPS toolbox says the same.. but navigation and maps totally fails (for a few seconds, maps placed me hundreds of feet off, but now it shows nothing..
I have the same issue on my GSM Galaxy Nexus with 4.2. Locus and others apps work just fine, but Google Maps and Navigation don't use gps. But at top bar, there is an icon show me that gps was fixed...

This did the same thing to me also after the 4.1.2 update and 4.2.1. Tried to find a fix for it both times and never could. Had to do a hard reset both times.
4.2.1 broke GPS in offline GMaps
I updated my N7 OTA to 4.2.1 from unrooted 4.2 yesterday and just noticed that GPS no longer works in Google Maps offline. The GPS icon obtains a fix as well as GPS Test app confirms satellite fix. But in Maps, it goes from "waiting for location" to "...unavailable".
My N7 was previously rooted under 4.1.2 before I went to 4.2. I performed a factory reset under 4.2 and kept it unrooted. I can't confirm whether I tried to use GPS Maps offline after going to 4.2.
Between the shortened battery life under 4.2 and now the inability to use GPS offline, I'm seriously debating about reverting back to a clean 4.1.2 and start over.
Did the update yesterday and after reading this thread I downloaded a couple of GPS apps and tried Google Maps with wifi sources turned off. No problems finding signal and getting a lock quickly. Mind you, I have a stock OS, no root as I just bought my N7 on Saturday.

Sadly, I am not rooted either, but right now, maps is hosed. Mind you, given that this is a WiFi tablet, it isn't huge ( I prefer 3rd party solutions more), but this is still something that shouldn't happen..
There's something in common you guys have, something to figure out... because GPS/Maps/Navigation etc is fine on my N7 on 4.2.. I haven't seen 4.2.1 yet.
edit: Just got 4.2.1, GPS is still fine. Holds sats, Google nav is happy, etc.
Re-enable Google apps access to location:
Settings -> Accounts -> Google -> Location Settings -> Let Google apps access your location
So, i can get a fix for my location and the apps which need location (like uber) works fine. But when i need navigaton like Waze or GMaps it simply doesnt get a signal, it says locating forever. I already used GPS Status toolbox to clear AGPS data and didnt work (the App doesnt locate a signal also). i tried TopNTP and didnt work.
Ive been having this issue for a couple of months i think, that is BEFORE i unlocked and rooted my phone for the first time ever (using DU ROM latest version, rooted and unlocked using NRT). Since i basically didnt used navigation i cant say for sure. But i think it was around the same time i changed my display on a cell shop, so maybe its a hardware issue?
Thanks for the help
