Hey.. been trying to see about using the GPS to locate me.. I used the test program and it just stays on yellow "Gps starting up" and other apps I have like a gps radar for weather never locks on... just goes by cell tower or wifi signal to locate me. Kinda odd so not quite sure how on the Energy rom how GPS is working and how I can test it? Its just odd that my G1 locks on but my HD2 isnt? Thanks.
Edit.. also a odd note... GPS I think is working.. but ONLY if I have the "Phone" turned on. Like for Cell phone signal. Normally I dont have the network turned on since I use it more as a pocket pc. But does the cell network need to be turned on for gps to work..? Again thats why im asking for a real way to test.
Another thing.. Weatherbug not getting a gps fix ever...
My guess is that agps needs to be disabled.
Well after I did the quick gps thing and downloaded the info... more things came up which is good... least its showing me its tracking something. Weatherbug still not doing anything tho.
go to: settings, menu, all settings, system, external gps. Set a com port in every tab that asks. In google maps set it to let windows configure gps and then reset the phone (just to be sure the com ports are started). After this once the phone has locked on to some satellites you can disable quickgps (only accurate to 3000 metres not 20) and the gps will be "always on"
Ok that did something more at least. Weatherbug found something, least 1 when I turned programs to none and hardware to port 4. (Cant use same port for both programs and hardware gps, thoughts?)
Edit: Nm I see you said already set "a" comport not the same one lol. Ok lets see what that does. =)
Edit 2: Ok well I know the GPS is working cause it picks up on my weather radar and the test tool that it gets a signal from some. Which is good. Tho why I cant get weatherbug working right.. I dont know.
New question.. how come the Hardware GPS port doesnt save? I have software one on Com4 but when I try to pick one for hardware and OK out. I go back in and it says "none" again. Is that normal?
I have a epic runing DI07, rooted. Since I got the phone the GPS has been flawless, and i use google navigation everyday without the first issue.
But my phone is unable to determine its network location, so if GPS is off, an application can not determine my rough location.
Most of the time I don't care at all about this. However some application, "Weather and toggle widgets" uses network location to figure out where you are, and give you weather for that area, it will not even look for a GPS location. and no mater what it fails to fine my location.
I have also tested this with google maps, and every other app I have that can find my location based off what tower im connected to. I have reflashed, even rolled back to the old rom to see if it worked.
So i went into the sprint store and they told me it was working as intended. I called bull *(@# and said I wanted to exchange my phone. Dude at the counter had a moment and I showed him on the moment that with network location enabled and GPS disabled you get a blue ring in google maps showing the area you could be in, aka rough location. So he agreed to exchange my phone, we pulled out 2 more epics and tryed them both and they both behaved EXACTLY the same way. GPS lock was no problem, network location was 100% fail.
What is everyone elses experience with this?
bump. Just updated to DI18, "use wireless networks" still provides no location.
Works for me...
No problem here... running on DI07, stock but rooted. Turned off wifi, turned off GPS, turned on "use wireless networks for location" (forgot to mention) and started Maps. It definitely took a little while longer to lock on, but there I am with a big blue ring around little blue me.
Wanna go test my issue for me now
I would be forever grateful
Still no dice, anyone else want to test for me to see if this works or not for you?
update.
I pushed the NetworkLocation.apk from the samsung moment and rebooted and now its working great! It works over WiFi and over 3g/1x, and it didn't break GPS.
attached is the APK
My HD2 refuses to update "my location", but it updates when am on wifi!!. have search the whole internett without coming to a solution. can anyone help?
It all of a sudden stopped working.
Yes, I have the same, it works via wifi and data line but not when connected to the computer.
Bye,
Itamar
Anyone?
Why can i update my location on WIFI and not via my phone network?
everything else is working just fine.
Frustrating!!
It should work, what you do is disconnect your data connection, turn of 3g and then on again, that normally does the trick!
Dont work, have also tried to flash back to stock rom(from Artemis), both 1.66 and 3.14. currently on Artemis V25.0, but also tried V36.0
Anyone else?
Same problem here. I'm on Energy Oct 13 Cookie, radio 2.12.50.02_2. Location update works for ca 12hrs and then stops working. After that update only via Wifi.
Any ideas?
Anyone?

What works for me is turning airplane mode off and then on again, annoying but it does work!
Maybe
Go to Start Menu, Setting, Connections, Connections.
Then click on Advanced and Select Network.
Try to change both Network.
Then launch QuickGPS and go update your locaiton.
(I said maybe ^^)
Does Google maps pick up your location? I think the weather location uses the Google API's.
Weather Updating Issues
been having this problem for a few day, with a few different roms including the new 3.14 from T-Mobile USA. Tried the toggleing 3g and the data connection and it worked

Yes. Google find my location.
it works in Oslo Norway, was there today, but not where i live. it worked before.
I've had this problem the last few days too. Presumed it was the custom ROM that I just flashed, as that's when I noticed (but I'd been running Android for a while so wouldn't have noticed before anyway).
As with others it works on wifi but not data connection.
Google Maps picks up my location.
Starting to think the problem is not our devices!
starting to think so too, as it works other places.
It works again!! havent done nothing, just started working again
well, really hope it stays like that!!!
Mine works now too!
task 29,28 and diffrent roms
i also had this problem for several weeks with a l26 leo v4.5 rom. my location would not update within sense. nobody else seemed to have the same problen. sr, hr, reflash of same rom would not solve the problem. then i found a new rom i wanted to flash and i used task 29 and 28 before flashing the new rom. after flashing my location would once again update and never had the same issue again.
hope this helps
it's a carrier tower problem and the way it accesses weather from accuweather. It happens to all htc devices from time to time. I suggest y'all check out here instead, much better weather app:

i'm bumping this. my HD2 now only says what County i'm in, not the Town.
But i have now got a Desire HD, and the Desire is showing what town i'm in?
What is that all about? i'm not the only one, why the Desire HD but not the HD2?
T-Mo HD2 Weather/Location/Time not Updating via 3G
My wife and I are experiencing the same problems too with our HD2's.
It started last Saturday (02-19-11) when I left the town my mom lives in (over 1.5hrs from me) for two days my phone was stuck on her town.
As for my "location settings", we've already removed all the other locations and have updated to the latest offical roms. Still nothing.
I started researching the problem some and came across this as a manual fix:
At the homescreen select Phone -> Menu -> Options... -> (scroll down to bottom) Band -> (Select) GSM and then close out back to the homescreen.
From here you can go and update your weather again and it works but the down side is now you're in Edge mode. To put it back into 3G, go back through the same steps and at the end select "auto".
I have also tried updating to the latest version of Google Maps and rebooted and still nothing. Yes, Google Maps locates me via GPS and my CoPilot8 also finds my location.
Even more confusing when I switch over to Andriod via SD Card, my weather/location update just fine. ARGH!
So any help would be greatly appreciated!
Greetings all!
Ever since updating from 2.1 to 2.2 my phone (i9000m) has not been able to acquire a GPS signal. I tried everything I could find on xda and online to no avail. While the 'Test GPS' application was able to identify satellites, none of my applications could (not even Google Maps!). Miraculously, I stumbled upon a solution earlier today. Once I turned off my Wifi (and I don't mean 'Use Wireless Networks'), my GPS started working instantly. The signal locked on FAST and was ACCURATE. I don't know why this happens. Maybe the Wifi interferes with the GPS? Anyways, I decided to share this right away in case it could help others with a similar situation.
Jonnie
P.S. My GPS settings are stock settings other than my Accuracy, which is set to 30m.
So, i can get a fix for my location and the apps which need location (like uber) works fine. But when i need navigaton like Waze or GMaps it simply doesnt get a signal, it says locating forever. I already used GPS Status toolbox to clear AGPS data and didnt work (the App doesnt locate a signal also). i tried TopNTP and didnt work.
Ive been having this issue for a couple of months i think, that is BEFORE i unlocked and rooted my phone for the first time ever (using DU ROM latest version, rooted and unlocked using NRT). Since i basically didnt used navigation i cant say for sure. But i think it was around the same time i changed my display on a cell shop, so maybe its a hardware issue?
Thanks for the help
