Apps launch slightly faster

Don't expect this thread to stay civilized for long. (sadly).
My random comments:
Regarding the Samsung side:
Neither OS is a true multitasking OS by desktop standards.
what is 'samsung integration'? being able to connect directly to samsung printers/tvs?
You should be more specific about 'more control over (apps/hardware) if you're doing a paper.
why is it a better search bar?
include: better integrated map system
I don't believe the audio is better than the iphone.
'offline maps support' should not be in specs.
Both phones are 16:9.
what's a multitasking button? the home key?
'faster upload'? Is that true?
I don't know about 'more durable' than the iphone 5.
S-pen doesn't give fruit ninja any more functionality. It's just an alternate input device.
It is nice that it doesn't block your view as much though.
Regarding the iphone 5 side:
faster download? What does that mean?
Do apps really launch faster than on the Note 2?
Why does the iphone have better landscape typing?
You never see appstore comparisons android vs iOS anymore. They both have hundreds of thousands of apps, good and bad.

I'm not a fanboy, I enjoy all technology and I think Apple make some wonderful devices. I don't own either phone but here's my own way of looking at them...
Size: the main way these two phones differ is size. Do you use your phone more as a phone (texting/calling) or computer tasks like browsing the internet, emailing or playing games? I would say the iPhone is superior as a phone simply because its smaller, better for one handed usage. The Note 2 is better due to the multi-tasking, larger screen and expandable storage as a computation device.
OS: I consider iOs as well polished, but a bit out of date. It doesn't offer widget support and you can't even install different launchers. Android has the customisation.

Hey thanks for the reply
Neither OS is a true multitasking OS by desktop standards.
True compared to desktop but android does handle multitasking better as IOS tends to hang up apps in the background while android keeps them running
http://www.extremetech.com/computing/112013-how-multitasking-works-on-android-and-ios
Also the actuall multitasking menu is much better
what is 'samsung integration'? being able to connect directly to samsung printers/tvs?
Yes
why is it a better search bar?
Well its allot more flexible as its a widget you can place it anyway for easier access and I believe it has Google predictive text built in
include: better integrated map system
hmm maybe better Google integration already covers that? (Google maps)
I don't believe the audio is better than the iphone.
"Note II produced one of the cleanest outputs we have seen from a mobile device and that includes the recently tested Apple iPhone 5" (GSMarena)
what's a multitasking button? the home key?
ah I think I meant the menu button
'faster upload'? Is that true?
Yea well all the speed tests have the Iphone winning in Downloads and the Note winning in Uploads
I don't know about 'more durable' than the iphone 5.
All the drop tests have the Note 2 winning
Why does the iphone have better landscape typing?
The note 2 becomes too wide when holding it in landscape
hmm so you dont think Having less low quality apps is a positive because there too many apps anyway?

Hey guys I also posted this on the Iphone forums as well and he says that 50% of the positives for the Note 2 are wrong but he wont clarify what?

It is way better than Tomtom and Copilot and is completey free and updated frequently(almost daily).

Also a higher SN ratio, though not as high as others.
Bigger screen
Blacker blacks and lower battery usage due to amoLED's.
S Pen
It is way faster to input with the s-pen and swype compared to tapping a keyboard with fingers.
Asian language speakers can use character recognition.
There is a function to tap and drag which makes selecting ranges easier within the calendar.
This may have been removed from Note 2.
The s-pen is a very accurate input device unlike a finger.

The Note and Note 2 have a setting where keyboards can be downsized and moved left or right.
This makes one handed use the same as on any small screened phone.
This voids the claim that iphone is somehow more sensible for having such as small screen.
Really, apple have no shame and will stoop to anything i their ads.

The retina sceen is a hoax.
Viewing distance is critical with resolution, e.g. ppi on apple's larger "retina" screens drops to 260ppi as they are made for viewing further away.
The eye cannot distinguish resolution above 300ppi anyway and having a small screen means you would have to hold it very close to notice even slight differences to an amoled screen.
In the real world, people don't do this with their phone, so what is the point of Retina?
It is just an apple marketing wank.
Buyer beware.

This is only a plus if you are living behind the walled garden.
Once you break free, you will find out how the rest of the world lives, with cooperation and compatibility between technologies. I have experienced both(macuser 15 years ago) and will always choose freedom over patronising appletalk.
Be frank, many people I know complain bitterly about itunes.
The imcompatibilty with other technologies is offensive to others like myself and a burden to apple users.

Not with Hondas.
My Note integrates brilliantly with my Honda's blutooth for calls and music.
Do you know how much it irks me as an adroid user to see ads for iphone integration in cars and bank apps etc?
Especially now that Android users actually outnumber ios.
About the fanboy thing.
Apple's got it coming.
Their arrogance and dishonesty are being met by quiet but resolute competition from Android and others.
I'm just not a fan of apple.

The one handed keyboard setting is only of use if you use the stock keyboard/dialer/etc. I don't. Smaler screens win for one handed use. Period.
Higher Ppi is an apple advantage if you are being honest. How significant that advantage is is up to debate. As you said it depends on how close you hold your phone and how good your eyes are.
We are comparing phones not cases. Apple wins that one hands down.
Aaron from phone dog commented that his swype slowed down because there is more ground to cover. There are pros and cons.

Yeah, it's kind of irrelevant. If you have so many apps that it is impossible to look at them all, then the only thing that is relevant is whether you can find apps that do what you want.
I think ios still retains the advantage in terms of getting newest programs first since there are less compatibility issues.
And in response to your other post - if they won't be specific about what the don't consider an advantage then they might just be trolling.
Keep in mind that certain features could be both advantages and disadvantages depending on the what you want to do.

That's because they are not desktops. But the note 2 offers great multitasking on a mobile device, people are never really happy but I love the multi window feature, in my opinion that is awesome multitasking.

This is subjective.
For me and likely many others, the larger screen provides a more comfortable landscape typing experience because the hands are less cramped together.

Given that Android allows you to have multiple installed keyboards which you can easily switch between, I cannot see how the iPhone can win here.
That being said, I have average side hands and have no problems with the stock keyboard in landscape anyway, but I do use a split keyboard on my Nexus 7.

Dave

I am also confused between two.Note 2 has notification led too.I love them. But note 2 is too big for me .(why its bigger than note, which fell off and broke ,so I bought iphone4s 7 months back.

So can anyone think of any benefits to the iphone 5 ????

Obviously the iphone 5 makes you look really cool .

Sure. The iphone is smaller, more portable, and a simpler device. If my parents wanted a smartphone, God forbid, I would probably get them an iphone.
There is no denying that what the iphone does, it does very very well. (till they screwed up maps). Comparing the note 2 took the iphone is a little weird. The iphone is like a cute BMW 2 seat convertible. The note 2 is more like an lexus SUV. They're just different markets.

If you listen to music the IPhone has a lot of benefits, especially in the ease with which you can construct and sync play lists and generally manage music files.
One huge problem with the Note and indeed all Android 4.1.1 phones is that there is no way to adjust the volume via headphone controls any more, as Google has reserved the long button press for Google voice search. You actually have to take the phone out of your pocket to adjust volume.
I actually went up and played with an IPhone 5 yesterday as these issues with my Note 2 are a PITA, but I found that the sound quality was roughly the same or perhaps even better on the Note 2. I've ordered some simcard adapters and when they arrive I may try to live with both phones until the bugs in the Note 2 are ironed out.

You're best off asking this in an iphone forum.

First of I want to clarify, I own both an iOS( New iPad ) and Android ( Galaxy R and getting the Note 2 soon ) device. So I am giving you a fair and unbiased review.
To tell you honestly your iPhone experience will vary according to the country you live in. So the OP has to specify where he lives.
Now I live in India, there is no iTunes Online Store available here except for the App Store. So we don't really have a way have a way in which we can download Music, Movies, TV Shows on the phone. We have to go through iTunes each time to get simple stuff as Music on the phone. Which is annoying. Now if we had the iTunes Store things would have been a bit different. Plus there is no Bluetooth file transfer on the iPhone which is a bummer because it has no file system support. Their cloud back up solution ( iCloud ) is great for App data, for me otherwise its quite useless for people in India. If you live in the few countries where iTunes Store is available you have an excellent way of enjoying your phone with never having to plug into iTunes thanks to iCloud.
Next iOS 6 Maps app is useless in India. It has absolutely no functionality here. If you are living in one those countries where the Maps is enabled well, its a different issue. You might love it or hate it. There was a recent leak where a developer got his hands on an alpha build of Google Maps for iPhone. Now if Apple approves it, this issue will be reduntant in a few months. If you can wait and hope Apple approves it, then be my guest. I really hope they do. Besides I really think Google Maps is way way better with Street View and Voice Navigation, the latter of which has been enabled in India. It will take Apple atleast a few years before they catch up to the functionality of Google Maps.
Next is app quality, there is no denying iOS is hands down the winner here. There developer support is incredible. Lots of exclusive apps, games etc. Even the native Facebook app has come on iOS first. People might get pissed at me for saying this but a lot of apps on Play Store are crap, baring a few exceptional ones. For example Safari. One annoying thing I find on Android is that no website gives HTML 5 video out of the box. They assume you have flash, which is stupid. Even Chrome can't handle it well. For me Safari trumps in functionality but in terms of features Chrome wins. I hope Google has fixed this in Jelly Bean, because Flash is no longer supported.
Next Customization, there is absolutely nothing you can do on iOS besides changing the wallpaper and making folders, unless of course you Jailbreak then you can tweak a bit more, but that to is very limited. I use NCSettings to get a simple thing as toggles for Wi-Fi and other stuff in Notification Centre on iOS. Android wins here fair and square. Most of the stuff for which you would jailbreak your iPhone for will come out of the box in any Android Phone. Don't get me started on the ton of stuff you can do once you Root your Android phone. Widgets, New Launchers etc are another plus.
Now I haven't tried Jelly Bean yet, but I find iOS the most smooth, well polished and stable operating system out there. The iPhone is dual core not quad core ( this is very subjective it actually depends on the architecture of the processor but still ) the speed at which it launches apps and switches between them is butter smooth. It has always been since its first iteration in 2007. With Jelly Bean I have heard its pretty much the same now, Android has finally caught up and I believe exceeded iOS in terms of functionality and getting stuff done.
No expandable storage on iPhone might be a bummer to most. Galaxy Note 2 has expandable storage.
My conclusion is, if you are fine living in Apple's wall garden, you will have an Amazing experience with the iPhone. Like Steve Jobs said, "It just works". Otherwise you will pretty much hate it. Besides iOS really going stale, its getting out dated. If you go from iPhone 4 to iPhone 5, the software hasn't changed much. It looks the same. If you love tweaking, customizing and do what you want with your phone go Android. And for where I live here in India, iPhone pretty much is really cumbersome, to having through iTunes each time makes me cringe, no Maps support is another bummer. I love the way in which Android allows me to do what I want, sure I really miss the app quality of iOS, I have my iPad to take care of that, but I would pick functionality and sacrifice a little bit of quality any day.
I hope this helped you make a decision.
Sent from my GT-I9103 using xda app-developers app

This might be a plus for iPhone.
You know what to expect. When you grab your friend or family members phone to make a call on or whatever it looks like most other iPhones you have picked up. If you like this type of thing then the predictability is good.
The apple eco system is not all bad. Younger brother has all apple products and they work great together. Just stay in their eco system and it's mostly all good if you like cookie cutter devices.
I personally think the iPhone 5 feels very nice in my hand.
This might not be the best wording but iOS is almost idiot proof. Nothing I have ever done to my phone (ip4) left it completely unusable. First time really playing with droid I was not so lucky.

People who Switched from iPhone 4 to Focus?

to the people who switched from the iphone 4 to focus. any thoughts?
In the last year and a half, I've gone through a Nexus One, iPhone 4, Samsung Captivate, and now I'm on a Focus.
TLDR version at the bottom, since after writing this out I realized this is a mini essay..
Here are my thoughts:
Android is the OS you should be on if you want (nearly) complete control and lots of features not necessarily supported by your carrier (free tethering!). Unfortunately, assuming you're on AT&T, your options for serious Android phones are limited to a Nexus One or a Captivate. Between the two, I actually preferred the Nexus. Slightly weaker CPU, but you'll get updates pretty immediately, and it's a lot easier to mod that phone vs the Captivate. Also, I never had a single problem with the Nexus One as a GPS unit, but like many others my Captivate was sketchy at best when it came to GPS.
So far, the iPhone in my experience has the best battery life. I never really had to worry about it, and I'm a fairly heavy text/web browser/email user. It's obviously going to have the widest selection of apps, though that didn't necessary mean they were all useful. If games are your thing, the iPhone was also ahead of that by a long shot. However, without jailbreaking, it really is locked down. Tethering through AT&T's rate is a joke, seeing as it uses your already purchased data plan, and outside of changing your ringtones and wallpapers, you're fairly limited in customizations. Despite this, there isn't currently an option to tether at all on WP7.
Now having a Focus with WP7, I can say that the interface is very refreshing. Sometimes I just want to stare at the home screen because 1) the live tiles are cool and 2) the SAMOLED screen is amazing with a black background and brightly colored tiles. The web browsing experience is fast, but noticeably lacking compared to Android and iPhone (due to lack of webkit/html5). It's not a deal breaker by any means, but it was something I noted. The keyboard is about on par with the iPhone.
Build quality compared to the iPhone feels just as sturdy, in my opinion, despite the plastic body. It actually feels better in the hand to me, because of the curve back and slight lip on the bottom. It's also noticeably lighter to hold and carry around. So far the battery is holding up nicely with moderate to heavy text/web browsing/email/staring at pretty tiles.
Call quality was good, found the ear piece to be a bit clearer and louder than the iPhone. The biggest difference for me at the moment is of course the Marketplace. This is where the iPhone's ~4 years on the market really shows the gap. But given that this is Microsoft we're talking about, I don't expect their market to go the way of the Pre (which I also briefly owned) and be a barren wasteland (comparatively).
TLDR
iPhone 4 has ~4 years of exposure behind it with it's marketplace and iOS functionality, and it shows. Focus/WP7 has a fresh UI and is promising with Microsoft backing it. Build quality is very different between the two, but both feel sturdy and reliable. If you're making the leap to Focus/WP7 from an iPhone 4, you shouldn't have any big regrets, so long as you're not tied deeply into the iTunes ecosystem or your life depends on certain iOS only games.
I have both still and am trying one against the other for everyday use for my needs. So far, the Focus lacks on a few things, but no deal breakers, as the functionality should come with future updates like cut and paste.
Since I fired up the Focus, it has given me hope that this OS will give Apple a run for the money.
I like the iPhone 4 but the whole iOS thing has gotten kind of stale for me after 2 1/2 years of iPhones so I bought a Focus to try out and so far so good. It lacks many of the nicities and features in the iPhone but overall it's been easier to use, it's MUCH lighter and doesn't feel like brick in my hand. I'm also a big user of Slingplayer and man, there's no comparison with the video and audio. HD shows up as bright, colorful and full screen and the audio is much louder and more understandable then when using the iPhone or iPad. I still have 3 weeks to return the Focus and I'm not committed yet but it's a damn good Rev 1 phone.
I agree with all of you but for me there have been some things I just don't understand why MS did what they did.
Notifications - There is a noticeable space at the top of the screen that hardly used. It is sometimes used for notifications as in text messages but not for email or twitter notifications.
Keyboard - In portrait its on par with iphone and even MT Android but why not a full landscape keyboard have you guys seen it? The empty space at the top of the screen is there on the side now and wasted.
Phone - 2 keystrokes to get a dialer why and to make it worse why no smart dialing in the dialer. I know you can use the search button but its not the same.
From a hardware perspective the phone is great light and long battery life so far. I just wish MS would have polished it a little more I dont really see a lot of Apple users jumping ship to it. Just my 2cents

I have both a Droid Incredible and an iPhone 4 and I love the Focus and WP7 interface over both. what I'm having trouble with is the little things that allow you to control the phone more that are still missing from WP7, probably because MS rushed it to get it out before the holidays. What I miss and need on WP7 include:
A Sound Profiler that allows you to control various preset sound modes and volumes for Alarm, ringer, music, system and keyboard clicks...why is this missing
An equalizer in the zune music App
An integrated favorites app for quick dialing. I'm using the tile approach for some contacts, but it does take more real estate than necesary.
Ability to change system font size. Some of the fonts are a bit too large.
Background processing for Facebook, Twitter, and some of those other things that require that.
That ability to connect to hidden Wifi networks! Come on MS this is suppose to be a corporate phone, corporate networks are often hidden. how do you miss that!
Abiltity to fast dial using the number keys in the phone app, ala HTC Sense! Much quicker to look up contacts that way.
Contact Pictures in Call history and SMS. they are everywhere else, why not there.
Native turn by turn directions Like Android has. Come on, this is a big one the iPhone is missing out of the box and MS is making the same mistake.
the notification system is a little wacky on WP 7...if the tiles that are changing are within view, then you are good, or if you are on the lock screen you can see certain things change via the icons at the bottom, but I'd still like to see an android like pull down.
this isn't microsoft, but can someone tell me why Google Reader doesn't format on WP7 and Windows Mobile like it does on the iPhone and Android. It's annoying! and none of the Google Reader market apps like gReadie and WReader work very well....
And why can't I get WP7 on Verizon! the AT&T network seems to be extremely slow, even more so with teh focus than the iPhone.
When will this stuff be fixed!

WP7 is coming to Verizon in January along with turn by turn directions and Flash support.
I've been playing with mine for a couple hours now. I like the device itself but it's probably going back in the morning. Couple thoughts, IMHO:
The back cover is worthless. Cheap. I never know if it's going to break when I pull it off. Having a removable battery again? Priceless. The SIM slot, specifically the contact nodes themselves, are poorly designed and I think mine bent/broke when I inserted and removed my microSIM adapter with my microSIM inside it. That's insane for a new device. They are just three little prongs waiting to break. Love the TILES!!! Love the font and the clean look of the whole OS!!! Gmail refuses to display my full email box. This makes me angry. Love the screen, when displaying the primary colors of tiles and most of the apps. On the other hand I Can't stand the washed out appearance of the IE and the screen when browsing. PTI podcast works, so big points on that one. Contacts sync is annoying, particularly since I don't have anything save for email in my Gmail contacts. My choice, my fault. I don't have a Live account and really don't want one but see no choice to download anything from the Marketplace. This is tomfoolery. Love the lightness of the phone along with the 4 inch real-estate.
Interesting so far but nothing that makes me want to replace my iPhone.

In my head and in a backup email labeled "contacts" that sits in my inbox. I redraft and resend the email to myself when I need to update any information. I only have about 10-15 or numbers to remember.
I like the OS very much. I think it has great potential, great upside. But the hardware side still leaves much to be desired against the gold standard Apple offering.

I agree about the notifications. I would of love to seen Twitter or Facebook notification heck even e-mail for that matter pop up and have a option to disable it if need be. I'm sure this is something coming in the future.
Also agree about the keyboard. I am shaking my head and wondering why there is a significant amount of unused space on the screen in landscape mode.
More active live tiles. I would love to have a live tile that would update the weather for me. I'm sure there is a app in the making but it would be nice to see that.
Also...there is no YouTube app? (I'm not talking about the YouTube that brings you to the mobile version of YouTube) Is that just a way for Google to stick it to M$?
Update:
Spoke to soon about the live tile for the weather. Weather bug has an app out for it.

I've been using Lazy Worm as my YouTube app in the mean time. It doesn't have all the functionality of the other YouTube apps yet, but it does keep the theme of WP7 and it works well enough.
i know this is an old thread, but i will add my 2 cents.
i owned the 3G, the 3GS, and the iphone 4. the worst of the 3 was the iphone 4. it was practically worthless as a phone. i dropped 80% of my calls with it. i returned it after a few weeks because of this.
the 3G was fine and i owned it for a year and a half, but it was really slow. the 3GS was my favorite by far, and really i have very few complaints with it.
obviously the iphone was revolutionary. it started the wave of multi-touch displays and the app world was pretty phenomenal. but the truth is that technology is uncapped now and apple doesn't have the entire market, nor should they.
while MS has some glitches, they were to be expected. the marketplace doesn't provide the number of apps that the iphone market does, but how cool is it that you get to own a focus now and be on the ground-level and see new and refreshing apps as they come to life? i find that pretty cool.
my main reason for switching was just to do something different, and so far i am very pleased with the phone. i think it does everything the iphone does and potentially more, you just have to be willing to learn new techniques as you would with any new phone.
Gonna try to not repeat what others have already said.
Loving WP7 OS and everything it does. Fresh start, smooth UI and a great design paradigm. Missing some features but nothing has been a deal breaker yet. I can tell it's just a matter of time (short time) and a lot of these features will land in the OS.
Focus is OK. It's not great. I don't like the camera as much as I did on my iPhone 4. I used to take a ton of pics with my iPhone 4 but not as much now with the focus. You have to tinker with the settings to get similar quality pics and even then not all the time. Specially in low light settings, the iPhone crushed the focus clarity-wise. In day light, they are mostly the same.
If I could have WP7 on my iPhone 4, I would be extremely happy. But that's not the case. WP7 is good enough to make up for me missing my iPhone 4's hardware so far though.
The camera is actually the reason I've shelved the Focus until there's an update for it. I have to change a bunch of settings to get a half decent picture out of it and then, of course, it doesn't save those settings so I have to do it....every.....single..........time. Hard to believe Microsoft hasn't released a fix for this by now. Well, no...not really. Typical Microsoft, actually. And the hardware button isn't doing the phone any favors, either. The iPhone's on-screen button is nice because it takes no pressure so the phone doesn't budge when you take the picture. The hardware button means you can't help but move the camera when taking a picture and if it's not taken with plenty of light good luck getting a picture that isn't smeared. And finally there's the complete lack of any real features. No panoramic shots, no effects, nothing. I use the camera all the time and the Focus' software makes it almost useless so I went back to the iPhone.

To be honest, I have to strongly disagree....I am a photographer, not a pro, but lots of experience and the iphone 4 camera is NOT that good. Im actually able to produce much nicer results with the focus now than my friends iphone 4. Downside is the focus doesn't save the settings you use...which will be fixed. The iphone 4 quality is WAY to oversaturated...Im not saying the focus quality is amazing...but when I change my settings its definetly acceptable quality. EV and ISO can be your best friends when used properly.
to me the focus wins hands down, my friend who is a self confessed iphone/ iphone 4 BIG time fanboy, has had all the other iphones he had got his iphone 4 like a week before he met up with me tooled around on my samsung focus for like a hour packed up his iphone 4 went to at&t store and exchanged it for a samsung focus....

That was my thought maybe it is time for him to setup a Hotmail account,
iPhone vs Focus
I have no regrets switching from iPhone 3GS and 4G to Focus.
They both have pluses and minuses, but I thing WinMo 7 is a new OS and the market place is catching up quickly.
What I miss in WinMo 7 is the customization and low level access (e.g. registry, file system).

My experience in Atrix 4G vs iOS (iPhone 4)

My simple comparisons between Atrix and iPhone
I came from the following devices before Atrix 4G:
iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, Samsung Captivate, Samsung Focus, and now the ATRIX 4G. I still have my Captivate, Focus, and 3GS with me. iPhone 4's Bluetooth was giving me absymal call quality that I couldn't keep the stupid iPhone 4. It does have the front facing camera, and very very good picture quality at the back. The IPS screen is no Super AMOLED, but IPS colors are very accurate. The Super AMOLED has burn-in issue after several months of usage especially if you are in a Skype or phone conversation, the screen NEVER turns off when using speaker phone or bluetooth headset...... I have to click the sleep button on my captivate.... sucka SUPERAMOLED best color but worse life-span than LCDs PERIOD! I personally do not like to simply read the reviews and forums and decide what not to buy, because my first hand experience is the most important.
1. GPS: Atrix and iPhone 4 are excellent and they lock extremely fast and instant regardless of Wifi, 3G cell tower triangulation, or none! Woo hoo. I have Navigon on iPhone so I love it way more than Android's Google Nav or Navigon there coz they are buggy and the vocie synthesizer is like a sound of Stephan Hawkins without emotion. Navigon's soothing woman voice provides the best GPS Navi experience so far. Unfortunately, I can't say the same with the Navigon for Android. It's too buggy and lacking some good features from the iOS. I do like Android's 3D map and voice search and most importantly it's FREE. BUT constantly streaming maps over the cell tower is not reliable. What happen when you go to area without cell coverage? Also what happen if the data plan has only 200MB/month?
2. Internet Browsing speed/ease:
I like Safari coz of double tapping to zoom, the pintch and zoom performance and the beauty of copy and paste has been doing very well and more responsive than the Atrix. On the Atrix browser, i CANNOT edit this forum while typing this response. It sometimes not allowing me to select and scroll through the text even Atrix is imitating Apple with the magnifying glass. Sometimes the magnifying glass never shows up!!! While flash is fun on my Atrix bit it slows down a lot just to display ads. Fortunately I can disable Flash if I want to.
Flash to me while is pretty much full web browsing experience, but it does slow down the entire web page performance. It's good to have the flash option in Android no doubt. iOS however, has forced Adobe to take mobile platform more seriously and look into mobile hardware acceleration to create smooth browsing experience.
3. Stability/Speed: Pretty stable so far and pretty snappy over all. Install Launcher Pro or Go Launch Ex and also use Titanium Backup to Freeze MotoBlur if you are thinking Blur is slowing the system down....But I personally like Blur's widget just not the app drawer. Go Launcher EX has the similar UI as the iOS in the app drawer which is a plus when you want to manage your apps such as hold to wiggle the apps and delete them by touching the Minus sign like iOS.
4. Call Quality/Least dropped calls
iPhone 4 call quality is not as good except ear piece. Bluetooth and Speaker phones are.... bad..... the noise cancellation technology on iPhone 4 is not really good... People had hard time hear my voice even I have tried Jawbone Icon, Plantronics, BlueAnt all these highest end bluetooth headsets! Only the earpiece and stupid corded headphone works okay on the iPhone 4
Atrix is also suffering from similar problem especially if there is wind blowing to the top of the microphone.... the wind noise cancellation of the Atrix is not great which Motorola is trying to improve. Fortunately, BLUETOOTH headset call quality is EXCELLENT and that's what I use the most and perfect!!! Speakerphone is pretty good most of the time.
5. Speaker Quality/Volume
iPhone 4 and Atrix both housing the very loud speakers. I love iPhone 4 and Atrix
6. IPS LCD vs Pentile LCD
iPhone 4's LCD color is way more accurate compare to the Pentile LCD used in Atrix. The Color in Atrix such as yellow is greenish lime...... check the demo unit to compare. Use color calibration tables to compare. iPhone 4 is very very very good.
7. OS: ease of use vs high customizable.
I've discovered that Android is like beta product to me. People are trying hard to customize the UI just to have fun and increase productivity. iOS right now so far has provided the best experience. While Android is a little inferior due to simple Copy and Paste, delete app without accessing Application manager, update all apps at ease (Android requires manually permit each app to update automatically. Update ALL does not work when you have a modified app such as Skype for 3G call in US which cannot be updated due to relocking WiFi only call function), webpage rendering performance such as pinch to zoom in iOS is still better than Atrix running Android for sure. Android is also missing a lot of popular Games from the iOS. Hopefully Sony can do some impact....
8. Multitouch
iPhone 4: 5 points
Atrix 4G: 2 fingers but hardware could support 5 but should we buy for the potention?
Apps that support more than 2 fingers are:
iOS: Cut the Rope, Garage Band, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Street Fighter, GTA, and more
Android: does not have enough because the hardware are inconsistent. Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 can't even do multi-touch! Xperia X10 has problem when crossing X-Y axis with two fingers.
9: HDMI output
iPhone 4 or 5 can do 720P: SMOOOOOOOTH like butter but no specialized 720p interface, just mirroring your iPad2 or iPhone 4's screen to the HDTV. Good for games!!!
Atrix 720P Webtop OS is choppy It runs 720P video at lower than 15 fps....It can't truely mirror the image from the phone to the HDTV for games because for some reason the screen is forced to be a touch pad instead of a multitouch gesture or game pad control such as Samurai II.... you can only move the cursor to control the direction or the attack button but not both... VERY DISSAPOINTING!! Motorola's innovation is just old wine inside a new bottle. Webtop is more like a gimmick than a truly reliable feature.
10. VOIP: Skype, Tango, Qik, Fring, etc
iPhone 4: works all the way with Skype support video call on iOS!!!!! perfect!
Atrix 4G: Only Tango, Qik work so far recently. Skype is totally NOT working, people can't hear my voice from the mic due to high amplitude and frequencies noise. Something wrong with the codecs and non standard API that Motorola has used which is another Google's Fragmentation problem. How do you expect developers to change their source code just to suit a single device like Atrix? There is still no video call in Skype for Android!
11. Multilingual Support:
iPhone: Absolutely almost perfect. The iOS ,regardless of anywhere in the world, has the multilingual keyboard, voice recognition system, writing recognition system, system menu. It's a perfect multilingual OS that until today, there is no one in the computer industry is able to match Apple! Windows 7 still can't do that natively unless you purchase the Ultimate edition and still requires to install the language packs separately through the updates!
Atrix: Running Moto Blur is the cause for none North American languages being removed from the stock Android OS due to the limited storage space for system in the phone. Asian Language is not supported right out of the box. What's come worse is you can't even view or edit Asian language such as Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc in the Webtop environment! What a bummer to me! Motorola Rep told me they are interested about the application of it and willing to enable that feature. That doesn't mean they will enable the feature for North American market. It's a freaking world phone where people need to travel to conduct their business! What happen if people need to type Email in Chinese in the Webtop? It's NOT going to happen as of now and probably not unless you purchase an Asian version in the future.
12. Easy to Hack:
iPhone Jailbreaking requires careful maintanence even it's just a single-swipe or click to Jailbreak. The jailbroken device is highly unstable and usually requires a system restore which takes hours to sync back all the data if your device is fully loaded.
Atrix is easy to root (still definitely not for non tech savvy), convert your phone to webtop without buying the dock, and easy to enable Mobile Hotspot Tethering without paying. BUUUUT ENCRYPTED BOOTLOADER.... which Motorla is still deciding how to response to the developers... fortunately, there is the RSD5.0 that can flash Atrix to stock ROM now
13. BACKUP & RESTORE:
I demand not a simple cloud service backup for the contacts, email, sms, maps, search history but also for the apps and multimedia data! Motorola does provide the software to do it, but it's SLOW. The file manager transfer speed is as slow as 150 KB/sec via USB! I'm forced to use the Massive Storage Media to drag and drop contents. It's convenient in a way but it's definitely not the most efficient method. Syning data prevents wasting time to overwrite data that are up-to-date. Hopefully these can be resolved by the upcoming Gingerbread.
iOS: iTunes simple apps and data backup! It does have it's short coming such as cannot backup data of the deleted apps from the device. I repeat, data backup means not just contact, sms, over the cloud or computer but the data and settings that are stored in the apps and OS.
Atrix: Before the Gingerbread is baked for the Atrix, you must NEED to ROOT to use Titanium Backup and Rom manager (Which doesn't work coz of the locked down bootloader) and it doesn't sync to your computer or your cloud data storage centers. Why do we still use SD cards when there is Dropbox type of system? SD card backup is the not a modern solution. Morever, Titanium Backup is dangerous if you accidentally restore the incompatible data to the system file which may crash the device. The UI of Titanium is not intuitive and it's very complicated for first time users. Titanium Backup is again for geeks not your parents and definitely not your grandma! Android has completely failed in this category! Therefore it can't be a serious work phone without the right backup/restore feature. Finally Motorola's Portal is just slow.... 150KB/sec of USB transfer, it's forcing me to use as Massive Storage Device and that's 40x faster!
I do appreciate the Google cloud service to store all the search history, maps, contacts, email, etc. However, what about Apps data? I'm having a hard time to simply backup my apps data while they aren't stored somewhere in the globe.
14: Multimedia
Both iPhone and Atrix can sync with iTunes library since Apple has dominated the music market. Youtube experience is definitely a lot better in Android than iOS. Because you can rotate your Atrix in landscape mode to have full screen, while potrate mode to access related video and read/write comments while the video is playing! I would say iPhone and Atrix should be quite on par in multimedia.
Codecs that are supported by Atrix are still confusing. Some people say 720P mp4 aren't running correctly.
15. Notification System
iPhone: intrusive! Yup I don't like the bubble in the middle of the screen while I was watching movie, playing games, browsing website, VNC, and most importantly, video conferencing!
Android: non-intrusive notification system where the notifications are up on top to be slided down to review the history like a log. Perfect!
16. How data is being stored
iPhone iOS: single partition easy managemant. You don't need to keep track of where the apps are stored and whether if they can be installed to a larger sd card. This technique has been acknowledged by Microsoft's WP7 though Samsung Focus is an exception which still create confusion on which type of SD card has to be used safely. Atrix stores the data either in the internal memory or sd card which falls to the same issues as Windows Mobile installation --> confusion.
17: Email (3/14/2011)
iPhone iOS 4 now supports threaded emails which sorts out conversations with the latest at the very top even inside the conversation. So far I like it and very productive and convenient.
Atrix: The build in Email App from Motoblur does not do threaded emails. The Gmail app is even more pathetic! While the conversation feature is convenient, putting the oldest thread at the very top inside a conversation forces me to scroll all the way to the bottom just to read the latest email is just ridiculous! There is also bug for conversation list where it doesn't move to the next conversation even I've selected update automatically. The Gmail App is BROKEN in Android and people are complaining about that.
Atrix: Android's support of SD card is good but also bad when you have to keep track of where the applications are installed to and whether if they can be running efficiently when stored to the SD card. SD card does provide expandability but in reality, you are still limited by the maximum size that the device can handle which is 10GB internal usable storage + 32GB and you can't do a single partition to combine the internal storage with the SD card.
If you want a device to ease your life and improve work efficiency, get iOS. Android is more for geeks or developers. Get Atrix if you like to modify the device. The webtop is more like a gimmick rather than productivity unless you really use the Citrix Remote Desktop Control. It's an interesting idea, but in terms of daily basis, Android is still slightly behind iOS in terms of design. Market share does not reflect the re fineness of the product.
*Caution* if you have more important things to worry about rather than modifying system files, customizing the cosmetics of the UI, or simply just trying to eliminate the lags, avoid the Atrix.
Finally, I am still debating if I should keep the Atrix or wait for the iPhone 5, Galaxy S II or the Optimus 2x.
I think there are tons of people on this forum that would disagree with you. I for one was an iphone user for 4 years and I will not go back. Why would you come to this forum of all places to recommend the IOS? Most people who are on this forum have already made up their minds about what phone to get. I found the biggest thing about switching from an iphone to android is that it's like wiping your butt with the opposite hand. If you have been doing it one way for so long you are highly resistant to move to a different tech or adjust to the way that tech works. IOS is plain, boring, and locked down. It's not much different than it was 4 years ago and apple spoon feeds options to users that should be standard from the beginning.
"...update all apps at ease (Android requires manually select each app to update automatically)"
Try going into the market, then pressing the menu key and then My Apps. You should see a link to Update All at the top if more than one app needs updating.

I'm not sure what you are talking about, but I myself am coming from an iphone 3gs, this is my first android, and as far as I can tell the two update their apps in almost an identical manner in terms of number of clicks to update all the apps that need updates. I haven't changed anything from default and have not had to manually change anything in each app to make it part of the update all functionality.

I'm just comparing and responding to another user who is deciding between iPhone 4 and Atrix. That's the comment I provide.
Android is nice as the op stated however it's still not as refined as Apple's iOS is and apple is quickly improving their os and it's easily available when released thru iTunes or visiting a local apple store if you don't have a desktop or laptop and high speed Internet. I think google may need to start making huge changes if they want to have people be happy with android. Starting with requiring manufacturers to make updates available to each device as the updates are released.

Agree, Android's update cycle is so exciting and fast, it just takes manufacturers too long to roll out those updates. The Atrix was announced after gingerbread was released, but it came with Froyo.
But in all honesty Android is far better at content creation and not just content consumption. Apple users are such well trained monkeys that they will pay $1 for a flashlight app when a Dev with some decent skills and passion for the platform will release it for free.
My wife is nowhere near as tech savvy as I am, but she lives her Desire Z and finds it easier to use than her iPhone 3gs, but this could also be due to HTC Sense.

To clarify, you can change each individual app to update automatically which means you will never have to do anything OR you can go into the Market and just select "Update All" at the top. I had an iphone and you either had to update on itunes and then sync your phone or you had to go to the app store in your phone and select "Update all" but with Android, if you take the 2 or 3 minutes to select the automatic feature, you won't have to do anything, so I think Android WINS that round, sheesh. Plus, that's just splitting hairs.

The part about the $1 flashlight app you say is total bologna. The best flashlight app in the app store is totally free and gets regular updates. Also android is a toy with a cute little green robot.
Go bite an Apple, OP. It's obvious you have no clue what you're even saying. If you did, you'd realize that you're sooooo wrong about nearly everything.
Also, I don't know if you're from a different country, but if you're going to make an Android bashing post, please do so without using google translate.
First point: You love Navigon on the iPhone, but you don't like Google Maps or Navigon on Android... alroghty then...
Second: I don't know why you feel like that. I'm using Dolphin browser, P&Z work fine, as well as copying and pasting. It kinda takes a little bit of getting used to to make the magnifying glass pop up.
Three, four, and five I can basically skip since you give Android some room to breathe.
Six: The green feels fine to me. I've used an iP4, and while the Retina Display is nice, I haven't seen any notable differences, and the color green seems fine to me.
Seven: Oh. My. God. Learn what a Beta is. Your definition of beta seems to be: "Too hard for me to use." It seems like my 10 year old sister knows how to use Android better than you. It's so simple to use copy and paste, but it seems you just can't figure out, and you condemn a whole OS because you can't seem to understand it. You also said that there's a launcher to hold and delete apps, so why even bring it up again?
Now for the updating... Are you mental? Is it really that hard to go into the Market, click settings, and then update all? As for the games, just wait. Android hasn't been mainstream as long as iOS.
Eight: So, you're going to use all 5 fingers all the time? I've never seen people use more than 3, and rarely use 3 at all.
Nine: You have to buy an extra accesory to use HDMI output on the iPhone... And that is webtop, not mirroring you're doing. Learn the difference.
Ten: Apps need to be updated. Device less than a month old. Blahdy blah.
Eleven: You skipped 11.
Twelve: High maintenance in time such as tethering? lolwut? Makes no sense at all. Rooting is so simple. All automated for you.
Thirteen: Almost everything is backed up for you! Contacts are auto-backed up to Google from the start. MotoBlur also helps with that. Download an app to backup SMS convo's to your SD card, and then just plug your phone in and transfer your pics. Then there's good, old Titanium.
You're comparing Apples to Robots, and it's just not working. Your basic understanding of the English language is horrible, and shouldn't be used to bash Android.
iOS is def more refined, and user freindly. and i had over all less little glitches with my iphone than ive had with my atrix.
but im still staying with anything android. android phones are more customizable even without root/rom than a jailbroken iphone is. (just talking about visual customization)
I don't understand why almost all "Atrix vs. iphone/android vs. iOS" speak only or mainly of points that are already handed to Apple. I'm sure that other Atrix users here like me, Bought the Atrix knowing in advanced it's does not win over iphones in all categories.
I'm thank the OP for his review but an example of I'm saying about those reviews is like the highlight on "updating all apps at once". I wonder how could this feature be more important compared how each OS handles installing the apps!!
I'm new to Android and it was a little blast I had when I found out how you install apps! click this, install that, back, click this, install, check download progress in notification bar, go back for more apps, they download and install while your still surfing the friggin' market!!
In iOS if you chose to install an app it exits itself to the home screen and you need to go find where you re-launch the store app!!
Now how can that not be spoken of when "updating all apps at once" is suddenly an edge over the other OS?
I have to admit English is not my first language and I was pretty frustrated about my Atrix!
I know some people may not agree with me but here is my refined response.
First point: You love Navigon on the iPhone, but you don't like Google Maps or Navigon on Android... alright then...
Second: I don't know why you feel like that. I'm using Dolphin browser, P&Z work fine, as well as copying and pasting. It kinda takes a little bit of getting used to to make the magnifying glass pop up.
Thanks for the tips on alternative browsers. Copy and Pasting is worse than iOS from my Atrix experience. Sometimes there is no magnifying glass when editing the text. It pops out a selection menu that covers up my whole screen asking me to SELECT TEXT, SELECT ALL, COPY, etc. Inside the browser, I MUST need to click the Menu button, select More, Select text and I've no way to accurately select the correct beginning and the end of the portion that I would like to copy.
Three, four, and five I can basically skip since you give Android some room to breathe.
Six: The green feels fine to me. I've used an iP4, and while the Retina Display is nice, I haven't seen any notable differences, and the color green seems fine to me.
Check with Color Calibration sheets to test LCD monitors then you will know how wrong the colors are especially yellow becomes yellowish green and lime and green contains yellow
Seven: Oh. My.
I'm a tech geek who have used WP7, iOS, Symbian, Windows Mobile, Palm, and more in long period of time and I have the right to criticize Android base on my experience. The UI in Android is not refined and feels like Windows Mobile menus embedded within menus just bigger buttons and open source for developers but not really for consumers because the manufactures impose their lock-downs to the bootloaders.
Now for the updating... Are you mental? Is it really that hard to go into the Market, click settings, and then update all? As for the games, just wait. Android hasn't been mainstream as long as iOS.
Updates sucks because you can solely use the phone itself to update. I've a modified version of Skype which can't be updated using the UPDATE ALL menu. If I did that, my Skype can't be used in 3G network for calling. Moreover, Skype DOES NOT SUPPORT VIDEO CALL for Android yet while iOS are supported
Eight: So, you're going to use all 5 fingers all the time? I've never seen people use more than 3, and rarely use 3 at all.
Just because you never seen 3 fingers usage does not mean there is no such demand on the creativity. Take Cut the Rope, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Virtual DJ, Piano, and other creativity apps, they all use more than 3 fingers just to let you know.
Nine: You have to buy an extra accesory to use HDMI output on the iPhone... And that is webtop, not mirroring you're doing. Learn the difference.
Extra accessories also applies to the Atrix Officially. Webtop is running in Ubuntu which is Choppy and DOES NOT have an option to mirror the Android environment completely. When I want to play Samurai II on the HDTV, I CANNOT do that at all because the screen becomes a touch pad instead of normal multi-touch operation in the Android environment. I can't play Need for Speed on the HDTV because I can't touch the screen to play the game at all. iPhone, iPad, Optimus 2X and upcoming Xperia Arc are able to do that.
Ten: Apps need to be updated. Device less than a month old. Blahdy blah.
Truth to be told, Motorola is not using standard APIs. VOIP developers are having troubles to develop the right codecs to work in the Atrix. Do your own research
Eleven: You skipped 11.
Atrix has Limited Multilingual Support. The Webtop Cannot display Asian Characters nor allow users to input them either. Android does not come with decent Asian Characters inputs. Apple iOS is absolutely amazing in that area regardless where the iPhone is being released anywhere in the world, the language packs are the same. The only good side of Android's multilingual is customizable keyboard.. but so far none of the android keyboards have satisfied me due to choppiness, sluggish design, button too narrow, inaccurate writing recognition, and more.
Twelve: High maintenance in time such as tethering? lolwut? Makes no sense at all. Rooting is so simple. All automated for you.
I'm talking about keeping up the Jailbreaking trend against Apple's lockdown on the iPhone, not Android, read carefully! People who need to unlock their phones cannot update their iPhones easily. Feel free to jailbreak but you will suffer from system instability which usually requires full system restore. Re-syncing all apps usually take hours if your device is fully loaded.
Thirteen: Almost everything is backed up for you! Contacts are auto-backed up to Google from the start. MotoBlur also helps with that. Download an app to backup SMS convo's to your SD card, and then just plug your phone in and transfer your pics. Then there's good, old Titanium.
Did you read carefully what I was saying? I demand more than simple Contact, SMS, Email Cloud backup service. Titanium is dangerous to use for non technical people. They will overwrite or delete critical system data that would crash the device. Titanium also requires Root access in order to restore everything. I know how to use Titanium backup ever since I got my Captivate and got frustrated about lacking Google official data backup system. I repeat I'm very technical but Android is definitely not good for non technical people such as your grandma!
You're comparing Apples to Robots, and it's just not working. But I'm comparing different mobile OSs which is the same category
Your basic understanding of the English language is horrible, and shouldn't be used to bash Android.
Yet, Android is being used world wide and therefore should also be multilingual. You, who is an Android user, should able to tolerate people who are not English as their 1st language.
You're obviously not very tech-ish at all. You cannot say an OS is in beta because it lacks features you think should be in it. Your points are moot. So did you consider iOS 2, 3, and 4 to be betas as well?
And to your response to number 11, what?
I can tolerate people just fine. It's when you start rambling in broken English that I can't stand. It just starts looking like some sort of spam e-mail, and hard to read.
I agree with most of what you said squarejp.
Sad to see most people here will down the iP4 just because it is apple.
If they would actually get to use the phone for more than a day, im sure more would see what you mean.
P.S. I have both and iphone and a incredible running 2.2.
Dont kid yourself guys, IOS is much more refined than android.

Ipad 2 pwned by my Transformer at work.

So my company bought Ipad 2's to integrate with our business. I suggested we get android tablets because they work better. So end result they didn't listen and bought them anyway. We have smart tags all over our showroom that play videos about our products. They wanted to use the Ipad to let the customers walk around and use the tags to watch the videos. So yesterday one of the managers tries to use it and I notice he looks frustrated. So I pull out my Transformer walk over there and scan the tab and the video plays smooth as butter. He looks at me and says WTF. I said oh Steve Jobs doesn't believe in flash. Hmm those ipads are great huh and walked away. PWNED!

Nice!
My Transformer and my DHD pwn iPads and iPhones almost on a daily basis at my workplace.
I don't see why business would pick an iOS tablet over Android. iOs is so restrictive on what you can do and prevents you from being productive in the process.

Have you ever worked in IT in a business? Some manager with AP sign off ability makes snap decisions on hardware/software, expects IT to support it and then often it just ends up in a storeroom somewhere until its broken, sold or "lost." Its never touched again because the original idea was abandoned or IT eventually applied what was really needed.
Not that I have any personal experience or anything....

That is exactly why a business would pick iOS. Businesss' favorite devices are BlackBerries, not because they have the most powerful processor, best games, and super-quick facebook access, but because they can be remotely wiped/locked, every setting (from bluetooth to language) can be set via group policy, and everything going into/out of the phone (phone calls, texts, Internet access) can be monitored. And it has been that way for a long time.
When you are buying devices for your company, you want that control. iOS are probably second best in that aspect (and do pretty well with the right software loaded like MobileIron). Android is lacking. It wasn't until the last year (I think) that android officially supported "device administrators" and the ability to enforce pin usage and/or remote wipe. It's getting better, but before Android devices are allowed to access company file shares, Exchange servers, etc., they are going to have to improve significantly.
As a personal choice, I would take a Transformer over an iPad any day. If I was buying for my small business of 2-8 employees, it might be a toss up. If I was buying more than 10 devices though or if my business touched anything with PII or government-regulated data, I wouldn't touch Android.

Neither Android nor iOS are designed to fit well with existing Microsoft-based infrastructure, and that's precisely the point. If you migrate over to Google Apps, there's no longer any need to purchase several server clusters for the purpose of providing basic email, calendar, and productivity applications to your user base. Just upgrade your pipe with your ISP to handle the increased bandwidth required for cloud services, and then you can toss out a large portion of your local infrastructure, saving massive amounts of money on energy, upkeep, and licensing costs. Apple is in the process of offering the same with the iCloud suite.
The older IT pros typically think it's an incredibly stupid idea to just throw out all that hard work that went into designing and implementing a Microsoft-based business infrastructure, instead focusing on getting all the new technology to play nice with Exchange and Office. But you have to understand that there's a reason why they don't play nice out of the box, and that reason is money, and, to a lesser extent, competition. Where's the profit in it for Microsoft if they make an Android app that makes Exchange integration flawless, when they could wait a year and force feed you Windows Phone 7 and Windows 8 with complete support built in? It doesn't make any business sense to run two or more competing operating systems, and therefore you're never going to get seamless integration in such environments.
If you're a business that runs mainly on Microsoft services, then you should only buy Microsoft products in order to assure easy migration and interoperability. If you instead see more usability value in upgrading your client machines to Google or Apple devices, then you should be looking to migrate your infrastructure over as well.
I also bought a Transformer over the advice of many 'experts' to get an iPAd.
Android rules.
I have both an iPad 1 and now a Transformer. While I haven't touched my iPad since I got the Transformer, there ARE a few things I miss about the iPad:
1. Software - Sorry, but right now, even when an app does exist for both iOS and Android, the iOS version is way better. It looks better and it runs better (especially games). For exampe, the LogMeIn app in Android is just horrible, which the iOS version is simply awesome. Pinball HD runs better on my iPad 1, etc.... And that's with half the CPU power!
2. Build quality - I think my iPad 1 is almost indestructible. My Transformer - not so much...
3. Screen - while the screen in the transformer is nice (2nd best I've seen), the iPad display is better.
Of courese, Android is catching up on #1... A little more time should fix this one.
0
For #2, hey - strong is nice, but I'm not really that "hard" on my tablets, so this one is not a big deal (for me).
And finally for #3 - Again, the screens in Android tablets are getting better and better. Hopefully, they'll be able to match the iPad screen someday, because I don't see myself going back to iOS - I love the flexibility that Android provides me. Don't get me wrong - Android has it's own shortcomings, but I think it''ll always be more open and more powerful than iOS.
Just my 2 cents...

what exactly about the ipad's screen is better? the odd aspect ratio, the lower resolution?
i find the ips panel in the TF to be far nicer than the ips panel from my old ipad.
I can't pinpoint what it is about the screen - I think it's just that the colors aren't as vibrant or as uniform as they are on the iPad (in my opinion, of course). Like I said, it's a nice screen, but I still think the iPads have better screens.
Of course, the iPad cost a lot more too...

Android and iOS, work okay in Microsoft infrastructures as well as Lotus based infrastructures, but it does take some work and they could be smoother certainly.

While I understand your reasoning at a certain level, Microsoft is very careful here, they were found to be a monopoly and forced to provide APIs for seemless integration at the same level that they use. Microsoft can not hide APIs anymore without some serious scrutiny from the EU and even the US. And honestly, Microsoft doesn't make much on the client side, each client is only gaining them a few dollars, on the servers side, each license is netting them far more money. Making Android seamless to their server makes them money, ignoring Android makes them nothing.
If you're a business that runs mainly on Microsoft services, then you should only buy Microsoft products in order to assure easy migration and interoperability. If you instead see more usability value in upgrading your client machines to Google or Apple devices, then you should be looking to migrate your infrastructure over as well.

I don't think this will happen for most companies. Large companies do not trust Google to host their emails, and with good reason. There is no assurance that when I delete an email it really goes away on Google. If Google has the feds show up asking for an email and they have it, they will provide it and you may never know about it. Try doing that to a company mail server. Large companies are risk adverse, controlling their space allows them to protect themselves. Now small/mid size companies do see the cloud for their email and other things as a good deal, they don't have to man up data centers and keep the lights on and AC running in them. Leave that to the cloud and just use it.
By the way Google isn't the only game in town either. There are other options for business hosting in the cloud that are also available. What would really help is a normalization of a sync technology that would allow for easy plug-ability into different systems while providing a seamless integration at the glass.

Im pretty sure its been confirmed that the TFs screen operates at a lower bit depth than the ipad. Being said correct application of software can mostly normalize this, unfortunately the gallery software doesnt, meaning pictures will just plain look better on the ipad because the color ranges that arent covered will have more "noise" in them. Dont know if 3rd party gallery softwares have resolved this.

Sorry, I cannot agree on this. Screen quality is the same (contrast, colour, unfortunately the glossiness too), but Transformer has better resolution (aspect ratio - I'm not sure which is better). I compared my Transformer to both iPad 1 and iPad 2 and the screen is just the same. (And my cheap EIZO monitor beats both of them in colour reproduction, contrast and black level - but on tablet I don't need those that much . I'm really happy with this monitor though, it's the first LCD I have that beats my old CRT on all fronts, not only on some. )
On the other points you are right.

That is a good point (the glossiness) - my iPad 1 has an anti-glare screen protector on it and my Transformer does not - maybe that's the difference that I am seeing...
I just ordered some (two, because I usually screw up the first one) SGP UltaFine anti-glare protectors as the glare drives me nuts.... We'll see if that changes my opinion at all...
I have the answer to why people go with Apple. There used to be a saying in tech., "You can't go wrong buying IBM". For better or worse, an updated saying would be, "You can't go wrong buying Apple".
There is also the general misconception that Apple owns the smart phone market. Primarily caused by the fact that Apple advertises wayyyy more than any tech. company.
I think there is a lot of fear out there that Android is fragmented and less secure. There is probably some truth to the latter, but I think it's overblown.
I have to give Apple the nod for software, but my having compared Apples to Androids (), Android OS is far ahead of iOS. iOS just feels old and clunky compared Android. The caps lock doesn't update the upper/lower case on keyboard, really??? The back button is on the top of the screen and home is on the bottom? This forces the user to hyper extend their thumb or use two hands to use the device. Fail!
FYI: We are looking at mobile and I love telling people that our Flex app. just runs my Transformer.

So you bought your Galaxy Note. Are you missing anything from iPhone?

I consider myself a heavy user of all iDevices (iPod, iPhone, iPad, Macs, Apple TV), Blackberry phones and I could not resist myself the moment I saw the Galaxy Note. I ended up owning one and I really fell in love with that device the moment I held it my hands.
My experience with Note is just 1 week old and I wonder if there are any features that I am already / will be missing from iPhone/iPad world going forward. This is not a review and it is just my observation, opinion of what I feel
Here you go!
Hardware:
The galaxy note IMO is far more superior in the hardware specification than the iPhone 4s right the processor speed, performance, resolution, screen technology, feel.
OS:
Is it better than iOS? Well, can't say! iOS always had a clean interface. No cribs on Android either. Highly customizable, looks great and ICS looks promising (can't wait for it though)
Too many options are good
Battery
Note's battery lasts for nearly 16 hrs on moderate use and is definitely better than iPhone.
Display
One word! Gorgeous! Black is truly black and I believer that there are just too many posts complaining about patchy surface beneath the screen. I guess that is by design and I am not worried. The performance is flawless! Show stealer and all my friends who saw the demo could not close their mouth ;-)
Gestures:
I am not missing anything here! Supports all the gestures!
Apps:
I almost find all the apps in the Android market place that I used to use daily on my iPhone / iPad except a few (Love ArtRage on my iPad). I am sure the developers must be working on it. Only crib is that I need to buy them again. I wish there is a platform independent licensing mechanism.
iCloud
Yes, I am missing the iCloud backup / Restore across all my devices. But, at the end of the day I own only 1 Android phone and I believe the backup is happening here on either Google/Samsung. Experts?
Airplay
Yes, I miss it and I am not quite happy with AllShare (DLNA) as the videos don't play. This only plays Audio, Photos on DLNA certified systems and not what I watch on youtube etc.
In Apple world, the AirPlay is just awesome and helped us watch things directly on the TV using Apple TV.
PC Indepent
Truly it is. Till date iOS always depended on a machine and this dependency is removed only with iOS5. In the past one week, I have not connect my Note to any of my machines even once and fully operational within minutes of the purchase!
Audio / Call quality
Not missing anything here. Had too many confusions after reading user reviews and finally i wanted to give it a try and compromise even if the SQ is not that great. I am glad that I did it.
To my ears, the sound is equally good between iPhone and Note. But I found that the music quality is much better with the stock player than using 3rd party EQ/Amps. Somehow, the PowerAmp kills the quality. Not using it any more.
Missing iTunes? I don't think so. I copy my songs the microSD and job is done. Genius playlists? Never use them. No cribs!
iTunes Music Match? Wont work in my country!!
Oh, Did I say the FM quality is good?
Similarly no complaints on call quality either. crystal clear and I am using all default settings while placing the call. I am not disabling noise canceling as some users do.
Car friendliness:
Well, not too much happy as holding it on one hand is an issue while driving. Connects seamlessly with my Parrot BT hooked up to my Alpine and hence no major issues!
However, iPhone is equally bad and not superior. '
I guess it is more to do with lock screens and touch screens as I am more used to using my Blackberry Bold for business purposes to engage in conference calls (Dial a bridge and key in a 6-10 digit PIN code). Just imagine typing the PIN using one hand in Note. Really a struggle and it is too dangerous! On BB, I can feel the keys and type, while I watch the road.
Voice Recognition
Frankly I am not a big fan of this and hence not considering Siri too here. I don't think we can mimic US accent, how much ever we try and hence giving up on that!

My tamil collection worked nicely on iBooks and on Note, I had to struggle a bit for Android. Finally I ended up Moon Reader and Cool Reader for tamil language support. I like Moon+Reader better than the Aldiko!
Timer control to make the phone sleep is missing in Note.
Mails / Messages
Both seamlessly connect to Exchange 2010 and IMO, Android uses advanced features (integrating the SMS) with Exchange better than iOS.
iPod Docking
In my car I am used to connecting my iPhone using the provided dock and connect to Parrot BT using bluetooth.
I know my Alpine suppers hard disks, USB disks etc. Need to buy the accessory to mount my phone so that I can play the songs! Will update once i get it!
Some of the above are just OS related and really not device related though!!
My 2 cents!
onlt thing i miss from iphone is android market is not selling items to my country so making tricks to get paid apps is not a good thing. iphone doesnt have this kşnd of issues.
I came from a IP3,3gs&4.
I miss bubble notifications, i know u can get them on launchers/themes but they don't cover a lot of apps like whatapp, work email etc.
Also on a jail broken ip4 the lock screen app vis on cydia is great. All my emails,SMS,whatapp / notifcations at the lockscreen. Didn't have to unlock to read first few lines of a notification.
So its just software hopefully ill get what i need when someone devs it

I will never sell my iphone
iphone apps>>>>>>>>>>>android
So the sole reason you're keeping your iDevices is apps? I know the i ones tend to be more polished UI wise but that will come in time on Android, and seriously, how many apps exist on the i ecosystem that you can't substitute with an Android app, or come close?
Just wondering...
Games apps etc are all better on iphone more fluid and look better

If your files are epub try Go Books it looks nice I used to use Moon+reader but switched up
oh.... let's see.... I missed the fact that my thumb can reach edge to edge of the screen on any of the iPhones. I also missed the slow evolution of the iDevices but they made sure we didn't feel cheap about it by selling them at a higher price than similar devices.
Gosh... there are so many paid apps that are so polished that the Androids will never catch up to.....

The irony
In 2 weeks I miss the app store, the ease of use, the polished ios5 and most importantly the sync. Android sync is absolute garbage!
The rest of the stuff the note wins hands down, I'll bear with it till the iphone 5 comes out and see what that looks like, may even go back to windows if I dont ever manage to sync this thing properly
From 3GS to 4 to Note..
I miss activator from Cydia to features from status bar.
No yet enuf reading, is it activator or something similiar exist?
Like to activate/click on status bar from running app to return to home screen without clickinf on the physical button.(To minimize using of the button that frequently faulty.on my iphone)

Why don't you try Dropbox? 2GB Free. By the way, if you use this link: http://db.tt/bO7rycn we both will win + 250 Free MB
I would say the apps are better on iOS. More of them, and better quality.
I had that great periodic table app, not on Android. Also there many more star map apps on iOS. Google Sky sux.
Android is very popular, maybe not as much as Apple devices but for how popular Android is I am surprised that more of the polished apps haven't been ported.
The thing I DON'T miss is iTunes. God i hate that app and the fact that you MUST use it to do anything on iOS.
I miss how easy it was to copy and paste, going back to a letter in word for correcting mistakes, and tiny wings
I don't miss the small screen, no flash, and no custom ROMS

I'm planning on buying a Note and keeping my iPhone 4(jailbroken) at first at least. I want to see where my needs are met or lost first. I'd like to be able to have the Note replace both my iPhone 4 and my HTC Flyer, but as it stands both devices are very nice singularly. I love my iPhone, and I love my Flyer. Both Android and iOS bring a lot to the table, Thanks for your incite on this thread!
From my personal experience
Hardware - android ++++++
Software - ios ++++++
I'm an android user but have been playing with several friends' iphones. I was always impressed with how polished the iOS in terms of smoothness and design. The sheer number of apps and how good some of them were also made me jealous. But in the end I can't imagine living a day-to-day life with a device so limited by one man's vision. These things are to be used the way somebody wants me to use them (including the way I grip the phone ;P). I'm aware that it really depends on personal preference but I'm a power user and being told how to use my device is simply an insult to me (and a painful limitation of course). On android I feel free.

Well, I partly agree. To me softwares / apps are still 3rd party stuff and they still do a good job when they support both the platforms. However the developers who are not familiar with UI/UX and when they create apps only on android, the UI is a bit lousy.

I miss the way Music Player in iOS creating playlist. I find it more convenient as I always like to create playlists each day going out.
And honestly, the way iOS manage apps is better, I dont have to worry if I leave anything running in the background that killing the phone battery.
Anyway, I'm in love with my Note now

What's Up With Your Note?

Hey guys,
I bought my GNote in Feb 2012 but I would have gotten a iPhone 4s if I didn't already own an iPod but I was really upset over the OS (not the phone or specs) missing so much iOS features which I'm used to on my iPod. I switched to PA and though that rom is so much more better than GB, it still lacks some stuff. I still depend heavily on my iPod a lot. Recently my iPod after alot of abuse is giving way and the bottom part of the screen doesn't respond to touch, though useable I can't use it much and its now become a YouTube and music player only.
I will be getting the next Gen iPhone when its out (hopefully sooner than later). I'm not complaining at all or hating android, its unique but it isn't meant for me (and I'm far to dependent on iOS). I don't want to get another iPod because I'm sick of the switching between devices and my iPod can't do much without wifi (affecting my iMessage usage a lot) and I just want to keep all my major usage to one device and keep it simple.
I created this thread to ask what you guys do with your own Notes other than the obvious calling and texting and web browsing etc. I bought the Note on a 2 year contract and I don't want it collecting dust after getting the new iPhone. I still want use the device for the minor stuff or when my iPhone is charging or when I can't use it. I intend to use my note for when I'm home since my sim on my note will go to the new phone and it isn't much without connection to the net. So far I intent to use my note for reading books when I'm home/before bed, use for videos and note taking (obviously) and use Google music. What else do you guys do on your notes?

How can you go smaller once you´ve had the Note?.. Why do you want iPhone so bad? What kinda features are missing on the Note?.. What you can do on the iPhone, you can do on the Note BUT what you can do on the Note, you can not do it on the iPhone!..
What does the iPhone offer that the Galaxy Note doesn't, or do you merely want to be a sheep and follow the Apple fad? If you give us what you find the iPhone offers over the Note, chances are someone here will find a way of doing that just as good - if not better- on the Note.

Well said... when my friends look at my note and say "Your phone is too big..." I usually reply with "I think your phone is too small", I open the browsers of both phones, open a website like f1-live or nba.com place them side by side and smirk. (And this is not directed at the iPhone in particular, half of them are on other Samsung models and HTCs.
We also work a lot with PDF apps to highlight and make notes on pdfs... guess who doesn't have to bring an extra stylus in his pocket or an ipad or another tablet.
Honestly, the GNote killed other phone models for me...

well I know that but I sorta don't have an issue with it as I said I do use an iPod and note together so I sorta got used to going big then small but anyways the iPhone is rumoured to have a big screen at least 4 so hopefully its true. And fortunately no I'm not a sheep following apple, I have used both kinds of devices extensively and I'm not surprised you guys questioning about apple OS, sorta expected and the same thing will happen on apple forums with them questioning android but to be more specific about what I get from iOS that android doesn't offer:
iCloud integration (contacts calendars being in sync) which I value so much
Photo stream
iCloud backup so no need to plug to PC to backup
iTunes and app store that is available where I live unlike play store where I can't buy anything but games apps and not all of the are available to my phone specific.
Pages app that keeps sync with my iPad using iCloud so I can switch between devices when doing work
And the cool new thing with just having to pull down the notification centre to update Fb status
All around dictionary built on so I just have to high light a word and tap define for meaning and not copy then paste on google
And reader feature on safari which is AMAZING
Good ol' iMessage
I can go on the the list just gets longer and before you guys quote me and start saying, this apps replaces this feature and adding this method in replaces that thing or that's stupid and useless and not needed, I am used to the iOS system and the convenience of it. I know android also has its perks and due to the open source there is several rooms that you can pick from giving you different experiences with your phone.
Let's not argue on apple sucks and android rules or what not and get back to topic. I for one will be playing certain games OK my note instead because of the big screen like gta and Batman. So what other uses are there for the note?

Sounds to me like you are very comfortable with IOS and I don't see a problem with that. You've been open minded about trying Android and it doesn't work for you. Such is life.
Rather than try to find uses for your GNote, why not sell it. (Preferably before the release of the GNote II).
Wotsup is right.
Good on you for trying out Android.
Sometimes i think to myself, how can anyone use iOS? It has less functionality, and there are so many restrictions. Everything looks the same, the home screen is so ugly.
Although I'm not a huge fan of Apple, they excel in user friendliness. Everything is like spoonfed. Some people like to customise their device and root it and do whatever the hell they want with it.
Others would rather get their device straight out of the box and just have everything work. Apple does a brilliant job in getting all their iDevices to just work. Seamlessly.
That's why even on the bus I see old people (like really old people) all with iPads and iPhones. But I really can't imagine the same people running custom Android roms or what not. XD
Anyways, the different devices will appeal to different people.
Good on you for giving Android a shot.
The All Around Dictionary would be great. Yes as you mentioned there are alternatives of all that you mentioned but not pre-configured if that is how iOS is deployed.
I agree with last 2 posters. I own a mac and love it. Ive owned tablets from both camps and the ipad wins hoands down.
But when it comes to phones im android all the way. Thats because i brougt into tue ecosystem supporting it.
Just like the op has and fair play you gave it ago. Im the first at work to bash apple users with compare the note test putting them to shame. But while we bash they have the upperhand their apps and tgat must be hard to break from.
One colleague just layered a multitrack song using midi in mics and a small bit of software all run on the iphone 4s. To say i couldnt win that one would be an understatement lol
So if you prefer ios then as mentioned sell your note now while its worth more.

Haha how did I know it would deteriorate into name calling? Oh right. Android loons can't take criticism. And definitely can't stomach any sort of fruit. You know jelly beans and ice cream sandwiches are nice treats, but not entirely healthy if eaten beyond moderation. Not good for scurvy either.
@OP. Sell the Note. It can fetch a decent price. Go buy an iPad2. You can get a refurb one straight from apple for only $319. I have a refurb one. Or if you really want the higher resolution "new" iPad, you can use the money plus a bit more to get it. The resolution gain wasn't worth it for me. They are identical otherwise. You are treating your note like a tablet anyway, leaving it at home and using it around the house, so might as well buy a real one. Don't get an Android tablet. If you already own a tablet, send your note to me.

Thank you guys for the reply especially msedek for that extremely pointless and useless comment that was so unconstructive. Pretty sure you are the troll here, unlike you I do own both an iPod and GNote and since like you said in your words 'you can do everything you are saying here and more with any android device...' how about you list the ways I can get what ever I like on iOS onto android. Pretty sure your not gonna reply so I'll just say it.... T R O L L . . .
Also thanks to THUDUK for the gay remark, you have fulfilled you part in the XDA forums, go celebrate!
As for the rest of guys, thanks for the replies (I really mean it and not sacarstic unlike to the other 2 morons I quoted). The think is I don't wanna sell my note because I still want to part own an Android but just use it as my main device. I also am still making payments for it, I bought it on a 2 year contract so don't wanna sell it while still paying for a device I can't use if I sold. I don't intend to use it as a tablet as I do own a iPad already, but since I got no intentions at all to sell my note I want to make use of it even after the phone switch.
At this point I don't know what size screen the next iPhone has but what ever size it is I will still be getting one because my iPod is close to fried, yesterday lock button stop working. So I literally need an iOS device (cas its my drug) and instead of just spending money on next gen iPod which becomes almost useless without wifi I want to get the iPhone just to keep it all in one. I actually was thinking and the note is pretty slim actually so I do intend to put a few TV shows and movies and take it with me for long journeys or trips and its big screen and 8 megapixels can come in great use to take pictures unless the next Gen iPhone has a 12 megapix then proabaly use that to take pics but anyways the device is pretty slim and not that much heavy for me to use it as a video player on the go. So I save battery on my phone watching videos on the note and I can do texts and calls without having to pause the video etc.
I still want to use my note as much as I can even after I get the iPhone. Also I really respect the most of you here who replied for actually understanding the point of this thread and not be like 'some other people and make plain stupid and meaningless remarks'... and gay comments also. So I'm final thing is very unlikely to sell my note as I'm still making payments for it and also I can use it as a backup if I lose my iPhone or send it for fixing or simply run out of battery. Once again I thank you guys for the replies and keep them coming, I have tried extensively both iOS and ics and prefer iOS more but doesn't mean android isn't good, it just isn't for me.

Really difficult to say what size as there are also rumors that apple is testing the new device in a shell very similar to iPhone 4 design as they are aware there will be leaks and people online are saying the new iPhone will have a completely new design and not the slightly longer iPhone 4 shells we see in leaks. But once again those are just rumors, we got to wait and see. Though I feel like the iPad mini might happen to compete with android 7 inch tablets but the iPad mini are targeted for a different audience I think, we just got to wait and see.

Well Said.
I hate apple, but i have to agree that for some people it fit's better.
I can hate apple, but first i must respect others and their opinions. Get your new iphone, and be happy with both. As others said, Gnote still has a good selling value, that will drop once the Gnote2 comes out. But if you don't want to sell it, as a backup phone and media player is a good options. Iphone can be too small, but in the other hand ipad could be too big, so in that case, you will have your Gnote.
Also, with the codec's support on the note, and the size of the screen, it could be a nice media player, if phone network is not in use.

Wow I really really appreciate you suggesting different alternates to iOS features on Android but they are all additional steps that may not be practical. First for the contacts and calendar syncing with Google on Mac, pretty sure you need to have your Mac switched on but either ways I don't have one (yet). As for the photo stream it isn't in the default photo app, you need to go to drop box to retrieve the pictures and once again you need the add on of drop box.
Titanium back up features don't work on trail version (I think) and again an add on app. Also I have tried market enabler, it does change the country for the play store, and only the playstore. Still don't get the TV shows and movies and books options. Also one thing o hate about android (no offense), don't know if its the OS or the apps but its probably the apps but anyways in music when there are 2 albums with the same names even though they are by different artist they share the same cover art and when I click on one of the similar titled album the tracks from the other similar titled albums are together. I have tries all the popular music apps so far and finally settled with Google music despite this issue because of the streaming service (which is really a game changer with androids). So to be less confusing I have 2 albums titled unbroken, one by Demi Lovato and another by Kathrine Mcphee and when I click on Demi's album both songs from Kathrine and Demi's album appear together and same goes when I click on Kat's unbroken album I see demi's track on the list too. Another example is Liberty X's and Kylie Minogue's X album. Oh also books form iTunes store don't work on android as they are Drm protected.
Google Drive isn't the same as Pages, the basic function are similar but they are not the same. Also Drive doesnt do PP and Excel. Same thing about them being in sync, add on app or it doesn't work. What's app isn't the same as iMessage as it doesn't allow sending HD videos and it doesn't work on multiple devices. For iMessage if I set it up on both my iPod and iPad when I get a message both devices get it and I can setup multiple emails as IDs for people to send texts and finally what's app doesn't work on Macs.
1 iPhones do have long battery lives depending on usage
2 Safari does have desktop browser experience and also Android doest have flash support anymore similar to iPhones.
3 more than 4 words do fit on the screen and a lot more depending on size and length of words and screen orientation.
4 willing to trade in wide screen gaming for a phone that gets the games way faster than android (couple months faster) and a phone that doesn't heat up so fast and make it super uncomfortable to continue playing and app store with wider variety of games.
5 don't practice it
6 love my car too much to teleport
7 not involved in it
8 hate running
9 earth does that for me
10 take your time!
Finally, dont worry I'm not offended but once again thank you for the post to suggest alternatives but its just mostly add on apps that don't work the same unlike iOS which just works!
The all around dictionary part, maybe you didn't get it but with iOS you just select a word and select define and it has the meaning so you don't need to leave the app and go to another dictionary app and tap paste than wait for the translation depending on your network speed. Thanks so far for the suggestion people keep them coming!
