Morning all,
I know I have done this before with my old Evo but I can't remember.
I would like to remotely control my media computer via my Nexus. I have a pc in my living room that has all of my music on it as well as slacker, pandora etc.. I would like to be able to control the play from the Nexus. I would also like to be able to control Slacker. Pandora, Songza and what not if possible without using desktop server like goto meeting etc.
Is that possible?
Thanks all
Bump. Still in the dark here. Any thoughts?
Maybe it's in the update everyone is talking about.

Hey my Suggestion is to get a File Explorer with Remote/Network capabilities.
ES File Explorer
and FX Explorer are two examples.
Although I think for the function your after the FX Explorer needs an addon, which is 62pence I think. Although it is a brilliant file explorer.
Hope this sheds some LIGHT

What's the best way to do this?
I was reading into uPNP. I got a uPNP plugin for foobar2000, and got it working for streaming stuff to my phone over the local WiFi network.
I tried to use PlugPlayer on Android to do this over the internet, couldn't get it to work though.
Does Winamp for Android do this? It says you can wirelessly sync with your PC, but that sounds like it downloads all your music to the phone, I just want to use my phone to browse a list of music on my PC at home, and stream whichever one I pick to the phone.
I'd like to be able to choose the bitrate I stream at also, the foobar2000 uPNP plugin has very good options here, I just need to find an Android app to play it
Hi, have u looked at audiogalaxy, im using that, sounds exactly what u need.

Does anybody know how to set up wi-fi direct between the n7 and an evo lte to stream videos? I was able to connect the 2 devices but I haven't been able to figure out how to view the files on my phone from the n7

Im not too sure if this is the answer your looking for.
But I would try to get a file explorer that allows LAN file browsing etc.
ES File Explorer
or
FX Explorer for example.
Im sure these BOTH allow network based file exploring, e.g. from Nexus 7 to PC and in your Case from Nexus 7 to your phone.
You can then view the phones files, and therefor open the videos on your phone from your Nexus.

The only way I've got this to work is download a samba server app to
The phone... configure password etc... Then start
The server.
on the tablet, open es explorer, set to lan(Upper left corner), click new server.. scan, then it should find your phone.
I was able to view files and stream video this way.

What is the most seamless way to sync music files to my internal storage beyond the Play Music app? Ideally it would be an app / program that would let me do it over wifi.
For reference, I would prefer it to be compatible with a macbook.

Seeing as you're a mac user, I'm assuming you use itunes. If so, try this out:

I use media monkey to organize all my music files. Then I upload it to Google music and it just shows on my phone without taking any space. Its worth doing specially if you plan on flashing Roms and wiping your data often. Google music give it a try. You can manage it online too

Another vote for iSyncr. Works great over wifi with my Mac and iTunes. I've used it through 2 or 3 phones at this point, and never had a problem with it. It will also backup pics/vids from your phone to your computer.
Ok, thanks for the input. I'll check out iSyncr - I'd used it a while ago on my Droid X but it looks like it's gotten a lot of new features since then.
And to clarify, I do use Google Music, I just really don't like the app, so I figured I can use another player for local files and then use the google music app if i want to listen to anything not store locally.
I have been on mac for a while now and android has changed a bunch since my HD2. I am running a mac and currently am using KIES. Is there a better way to manage music. Seems like the Note takes the rooted info of the song and wont allow you to change it. Is there an app that is better or something closer to Itunes?
other than that i love the phone so far.
I use iSyncr for Mac and PowerAmp. It's fast and easy, especially for this phone. In PowerAmp, I just exclude all folders other than the syncing folder and it works very well. It uses iTunes' values and album art.

Hello all,
I just bought an Essential yesterday (640 on swappa with the 360 camera). I noticed that there are some "stock" apps missing like music player, file manager and gallery, maybe I´ll found more later. I was wondering what you guys are using to replace this missing apps. For music I use Poweramp (bough it a few years ago, great music player), for file manager I downloaded File Explorer (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mauriciotogneri.fileexplorer) and Gallery (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.atomicadd.fotos)
I'm using simple file manager and simple gallery

For music I'm using shuttle music player

I really like the HTC music player. You can find it if you search xda but here's a temporary link.

They are intentionally left out, this phone is designed to offer software that only has the essential apps to function as a phone (except the Google apps google makes developers put on their devices). Which is the main reason I bought it. I'm lazy and stream music, I just go though storage if I need to access a file I downloaded.

Oh yeah I totally get this. My question was made because I hace not used any Gallery app or file manager other than the ones preinstalled on the stock or custom rom. So I just wanted to see more options
I use Google Play Music and Google Photos as my gallery. I also use FX File Explorer

Thanks for taking my post! Lol I use these exact apps as well. Asus offers a good file manager as well on the play store
Pulsar is what I use for music and QuickPic as gallery.
File manager in settings.
