Stock Apps? - Essential Phone Questions & Answers

Hello all,
I just bought an Essential yesterday (640 on swappa with the 360 camera). I noticed that there are some "stock" apps missing like music player, file manager and gallery, maybe I´ll found more later. I was wondering what you guys are using to replace this missing apps. For music I use Poweramp (bough it a few years ago, great music player), for file manager I downloaded File Explorer (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mauriciotogneri.fileexplorer) and Gallery (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.atomicadd.fotos)

I'm using simple file manager and simple gallery
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplemobiletools.filemanager
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplemobiletools.gallery
For music I'm using shuttle music player
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=another.music.player

I really like the HTC music player. You can find it if you search xda but here's a temporary link.

They are intentionally left out, this phone is designed to offer software that only has the essential apps to function as a phone (except the Google apps google makes developers put on their devices). Which is the main reason I bought it. I'm lazy and stream music, I just go though storage if I need to access a file I downloaded.

Oh yeah I totally get this. My question was made because I hace not used any Gallery app or file manager other than the ones preinstalled on the stock or custom rom. So I just wanted to see more options

I use Google Play Music and Google Photos as my gallery. I also use FX File Explorer

Thanks for taking my post! Lol I use these exact apps as well. Asus offers a good file manager as well on the play store

Pulsar is what I use for music and QuickPic as gallery.

File manager in settings.

Problem with music files

Hi, I have a rooted mytouch running SuperD 1.8 (fried donut) and love it, I have had basically no problems doing anything I wanted. However I recently tried to add music using doubletwist. It synched perfectly and after I tried to open the music app, the songs did not show up. Using AndExplorer I saw that the .mp3 files are all there, with normal looking names except they all have 00- designations on the front of every music file. However when I click on them from AndExplorer they will play in some music player (I am unsure if it is the mytouch music app or some AndExplorer equivalent) perfectly, but the name and album cover art, none of the tags, are displayed. Its not like they show up as unnamed, they simply do not show up in the music app at all. I tried using mixing and other third party music apps from the market, and they did not show the music files either. Again, there seems to be no problem with getting the files onto my flash drive (class 6 8 gigs) and I think it might be a tagging issue. If it is, how would I correct that? I tried to manually change the names of every file i imported but it did nothing.
If there is anymore information needed please let me know, and thank you for taking the time to read and hopefully answer my question. Thank you, and sorry if a similar question has been posted elsewhere. If so a link would be much appreciated.

download "mediamonkey" (for your computer) and try to tag your music witch it

(Unable to) Play music with stock app

With my previous S2, I never really played music, for no reason actually. But now I got myself a fancy S4, I'd like to give that a try.
I installed a (usenet) nzb app and downloaded a nice music album containing MP3s. They were stored in a folder on the internal storage called Downloads, and I moved the folder containing the music files to a folder called Music (also on the internal storage).
I now opened the stock Music app to play the newly downloaded album. Alas, that album was not found.
I tried the stock app Play Music, but the same thing. My highly anticipated nice MP3s were not in there.
So my question is: what the hell do I do wrong?
Need I to reboot the phone so it might rescan the files on the internal storage?
Need I to put my music folder somewhere else?
My wish is just to play some nice music with the stock Music app.
Thanks, for I am a noob.

Hi,
Silly question.
After you downloaded from usenet, did you unzip the album?
I make a folder called MUSIC , and put it on my sd card.
All music apps find it without issue.

I searched the play store and found an app called Rescan Media. This did the trick! After the background scan, my music files were found in both the stock Music and stock Google Play Music apps.
Thank you very much!

Sucks!

apps i like for this phone

so i was thinking to start some conversation here by listing some apps i like and having you guys list stuff you like. i want this to be mostly about like system apps replacements (music players, launchers, etc.)
to start, i use nova launcher, and i actually bought prime a couple weeks ago. amazing launcher if you've never tried it before.
for a music player, i use Omich Player (can be downloaded here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.omichsoft.player)
this is a really fast, simple music player that kinda looks like the really old versions of Google Play Music, but without any of the cloud crap and it's free. unfortunately it doesn't have gapless playback for me (but anything using the android music API on ICS doesn't have gapless) and i'm not a huge fan of pirating apps on android (malware gets spread pretty easily through cracked APKs)
next up, for a file manager, i use the OI File Manager (can be downloaded here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.openintents.filemanager)
ever since i had cm7 i really liked this file manager, even though it doesn't have root permissions, but it's simply one of the best solutions out there. nice, clean interface, easy to use, open source, and it just works really well. the latest version has some UI glitches every now and then, but i hardly use it anyway so it's fine. file managers are just nice to have around, especially this one.
oh and there's also the obvious titanium backup with pro version (you need the pro version, it's seriously gimped without it)
media player: aimp got android https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aimp.player
file browser:ES file explorer https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop
skin: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mycolorscreen.themer
video: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mxtech.videoplayer.pro can actually play 720p mkvs
weather Wunderground https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wunderground.android.weather THE BEST weather app ever seriously try it ..
backup: twrp recovery lol
Launchers......Nemus, Nova, or LauncherPro
Music.............. Shuttle, Music Ocean(file share)
Podcast Player.....Podkicker...
EsFile Explorers
And of course.....XDA

Play Music issues

Hi all,
After copying my music files (mp3) to my OP8Pro I can't seem to get them showing in the YT Music or Google Play Music app. Once I opened them from file manager they will show....
With over 1000 songs it's no use opening them one by one to get them showing within the music app. Does anyone have a clue how to get them showing all at once?
I did the same and on Google music they show up automatically and YouTube music it's under local files I think

Just get the best music player there has ever been on Android.
Poweramp, absolutely no equal. And of course it'll allow library editing amongst other features, definitely worth buying the pro version too, it's a great app..

Question: How do i manage music on my Pixel 4?

Good morning everyone.
Hope your all having a fantastic day.
This is more of a general android quesiton i suppose rather then a pixel 4. but being brand new to #teampixel thought i would ask.
while i have spotify and dont plan to use music on my phone to often, nice to have for them data black spots.
So i am gonna transfer over a few albums, just wondering what apps you are all using to manage albums and art work?
And then where are you putting your music on the device? surely i shouldn't just dump everything into the downloads folder.
Thank you for your time in reading this post, and hope your able to help.
Kind regards
Liam
You can use a simple Music Player Aimp / Poweramp ... Foobar
I copy the files to the Music folder from my PC.
Even though Google play music is being discontinued this year I'm still using it over YouTube music. I can access my music library on my computer and on my phone. Works great with Android auto too.
Hey there,
just use the preinstalled "YT Music" App. There you can manage your YouTube music and your local music, it also supports the "Motion Sense".
Regards,
Sebastian
