you can check in the instructions that came with the version you purchased...
on winmo, go to the route summary, tap version box, its in the middle of the screen. maybe its the same on android.
but.. thanks for this post. i didnt think that TomTom was ever going to come to Android.
its the ONLY reason i keep winmo on my phone now. i dont want to give up my investment in the maps i have.
are the maps a differents format though?
be sure to report back here with a full write up.

Password/Locking issues on ROM 1.30.68

Hi Guys,
I have installed the new ROM and radio upgrade. It has made my Universal really fly ! I use it mainly for tomtom 5.21 and it has sped up the refresh screen and made the maps smoother.
The only issue that is really annoying is that the Password program has been replaced by a "lock" program that does not recognise that Tomtom is running and the screen keeps coming on and I need to tap password in whilst driving.
I dont want to downgrade the ROM so does anyone know how to revert back to old password program or know a better one to use?
Thanks for any help
It might be worth just grinning and bearing it. its only a "test" rom, the real one cant be to far away now,
test rom, hmmm,, what of it were they testing???
are there lots of test roms we have not been privy to? i would imagine so hmm.
heh i got it, its tomtoms fault, must be. they should release another patch. surlly its tomtom app thats not supressing the timeout!!!
Guess you are right.
I just wish each rom upgrade would be "better" rather than just "different"
The solution

TomTom crashes after ive done ROM update

i used TomTom 5.21 on my phone before and i had it all set up with my Bluetooth GPS so i know it works on the universal, but since i did the new orange push update i cant seem to get it to work, it just loads up&asks the setup questions (i.e time 12h/24h, screen oriantation and then it asks for what language, what ever one i pick the screen just hangs and then it exits to the today screen. Now for some reason its different, when i click on the hands for TomTom i get this screen saying 'legal notice' when i say 'I Agree' the screen hangs and exits just like before.
I have tryed searching for this on the site but i cant find this same problem, maybe someone has seen this problem before and can sort it or maybe piont me in the right direction?
Thank you for all you time
you have an illegal copy of TomTom and have forgotten to put the currentmap.dat file back into the \My Documents\TomTom folder.
Now thats what i call service, Thank you very much for your quick and perfect post, i will try it out, Thanks alot 8)
ummm me again, before i do a hard reset and try this...
when i reinstall tomtom the tomtom folder in my documents does not appear anymore and i have no idea where i get the current map file from either, do you think this is a currupt install i have done and there is no way i can sort it so hard reset and try again or is there another way?
Thank you for your time

I have a GPS device already, can you buy TomTom (either CD or SD) without the GPS recevier? I know mine works.

I wasnt being serious&im not getting into that old debate, i bet you have had that conversation more than once i bet.
All cured thanks, i found an old backup so thanks for your support - i wouldnt be able to use it without your help

How do i find out what version TomTom I have?

It used to be 'Change Prefrences->Show version' but now i cant see that option! I think im on v7...
when you are actually using it it says on the screen in a box
click on the bit where it shows the time and speed info and then just above the done button it will show you the version number, selecting it will give you more info including your device id
Cheers home dudes

That's in almost the same screen as the version. Click the part of the screen where you found the version, then a more extensive screen shows with software version, available memory, gps driver version, map version, language, device id (that's what you're looking for) and some more.
Maybe you should look a bit better in stead of asking it right away? I get the impression that you don't search or try very hard, while that's the best and nicest way to learn things about the X1, Windows Mobile or any other thing actually.
damn I sound old ..... ..
in ttnavigator file on storage card

AT LAST!

Well...
Finally took the plunge and shelled out for the HD2!
I trully hope it lives up to my hopes for it.
Can anyone help me out, though. What ROM should I flash on it? I still want Copilot, would like the home screens in landscape also if possible. Any ideas?
Thanks and I look forward to lots of great help from this forum, like I got from this great site for all my other phones! Well done all you guys that work so hard so that dumba** like me can get my phones the way I want them!!!

PS Can you get the navigation panel to work without the car holder? I know, I will search, just thought I'd ask since I was here

I can't help with the other things you request (I'm scared of going away from standard as I'm not confident in all this modification stuff!), but you can look for the NaviPanel.exe progam in the Windows folder of your phone. Click and hold on it, select copy, then navigate from the Windows folder to Windows/Start Menu/Programs and tap the menu soft button, select edit>paste shortcut (and rename if required). This should appear in your Start Menu now. You can the add it to a quick link (it hasn't got an icon though).
ROM 1.66
Rom 1.66 is the ROM to go...
re: the navipanel - bizarrely, mine decided to switch on navipanel by itself when I mounted the phone on one of the cheapo mounting kits from ebay - I've already modded my dashboard for my Garmin, which got power through mini USB (routed the cables behind the dash and out into a cubby) - so instead of pulingl the dash apart again I'm using a mini-to-micro adapter (99p off ebay or something).
My only guess is there's something special about the Garmin lead that tells the HD2 it's getting a little something more than just 12v - and the phone thinks it's the official car kit - because it doesn't happen when I just use the crappy adapter that came with the cheapo mounting kit.
Having said all that, I don't actually like navipanel cos it seems to disable the phone buttons - home key etc - presumably to stop you fiddling with the phone functions when you should be concentrating on the road - but that annoys the wife, who likes to control the music on long journeys...
Thanks
Thanks guys. ROM 1.66 is an HTC ROM right? NOT a custom?

Cheers
Okay, thanks. I'll track it down. I'll use the UK one till a proper version comes out LOL!
Id love to flash to ROM 1.66. Just is such a hassle getting the phone back to how i had it. Wish it was easier.
Hi,
Why does the HTC web site tell me the ROM update is not for my device?
S/N is correct.
Is there another way to get 1.66

It means you have a carrier locked device, (example tmobile) so the standard HTC webpage wont let you download, you techincally need to wait for your provider to issue an update, ((buut dont hold your breath for tmo and o2,,,))). This has been covered a thousand times, go search for and read up on HSPL in the rom development section

Best GPS app(s) working on HD2....

I am having trouble finding a good working turn by turn gps navigation app (such as tom tom) which also works on the HD2....
any help/ advice ?
Thanks in advance...
TomTom works fine on HD2.
Navigon MN7, Copilot.
what versions ? and what are your radio/rom/ wm version info's, please ?
iGO, Garmin XT...
Tomtom works fine for me too...
*edit* ttn 7.917 at the moment, probably change that to 7.918 once I get the inclination to transfer the files... Radio in my sig...
Igo works fine for me. Sometimes you need to set the GPS device port to 4 before it will pick up the internal GPS hardware.
I use this. It is fantastic.

I've got Navigon MN7 and GF is trialling Copilot8, routing is similar but we both like the MN7 interface better.
Copilot also waits until just after you turn left/right before telling you to "turn left/right shortly" which is a bit confusing.
Copilot is good VFM tho'
are there any free equivalents ?

Warez is not permitted on XDA in any shape or form, whether requesting or providing
Consider this first and last warning!!!!

AFAIK there is no free turn-by-turn navigation for WM.

If you do a search on this site you will find a link to the TomTom v916 program for the HD2. The program is free, but you have to buy the maps.
You could always go to the ROM section and flash an official HTC ROM, as this comes with co-pilot. I have no idea how much the maps cost or it is a subscription as I don't use it.

There used to be one, GPS4All, until Nokia screwed them over with map licencing.

Co-Pilot ranges from £26.99 to under £100, dependant on the number of maps you buy.
daanng the maps cost money hahaha. i'll look into it. the programs eat up battery life rather easily too right?

Maybe if we're lucky, Google will port their turn by turn from Android. I wouldn't count on it though.

Yes, anything that involves GPS + leaving your screen on for an extended period of time will use the battery fast. Get a car charger...
