Well , I know some of you have mac and file transfer via usb never worked , but there is new KIES in town for mac . On samsung website KIES requirements is still saying that mac lion 7 OS but new update works on mountain lion . and once you connect GN to mac and it connects to kies , you can double click on internal or external card folder explore and drag and drop ( if you prefer instead of sync ) . Air droid has never showed correct internal or external storage capacity and it was lot slower .

Hello! (first post , have been reading for a while though)
I can't connect the phone to my PC (win7 64bit), not as a mass storage device or with Kies (it worked fine before with my home PC and an XP machine at work).
It stopped working after the PC said "Device drivers installed properly" (or something like that) when I connected it, after that I have'nt been able to make it work as mass storage device on any computer..
Very strange and very annoying!
I'm thinking I might factory reset the phone (would very anti-nice though to loose all apps and stuff), so I thought I'd ask here first if there are any possible solutions..
Thx!
if you open device manager in Win7 x64 do you see it listed as GT-I9000 in Portable Devices ?
that's what it shows in mine, and i'm on x64 Win7
it automatically opens in Mass Storage also works in Kies
WEE!! Got it to work just now!!
Rebooted the phone (as I do every day) and connected it to charge over night, and windows popped up with the "installing device driver blabla dialogue" and suddenly it works!?!
This after not working for at least a week on any computer...
I have no idea what might have caused it, but I'm just happy it works again
Still, very strange...
It shows up in the device manager now, it did'nt before.. Thx for the reply!
On Win XP
is there a certain driver i have to download before using USB Mass Storage option.
all i get are two removable drives icon. but they can't be opened
you should only have 1 removeable device icon, 2 if you have a micro SD card inserted.
if you configure the phone to ask you what to do with the usb during connection, then you can select Kies or Mass Storage
regardless both works fine
i do have two removable drives because of the addition of the sd card
its set on Mass Storage. but it still won't open. im not sure if Windows installed it properly though
the driver details:
driver files- system32\drivers\USBSTOR.sys
does it shows in device manager, as mentioned above ?

After connecting the phone via USB, did tell the phone to Mount the drives?
anyone else encountered this issue?
Is anyone else having trouble connecting their Galaxy to a PC? I don't know whether mine is faulty or not. Downloaded the Samsung Kies software but when I plug in the Galaxy Windows is unable to find a MTP USB device driver and the phone refuses to connect. This happens Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. Also the Galaxy has a complete fit and keeps flashing between the home screen and MTP application screen while it's connected (wxw.youtube.com/watch?v=R9hdpJPCP-k). And I don't get the usual Android option to mount for file transfer. Am I missing something?

finally managed to fix tis stupid kies connection problem...if anyone encountering the same issue jus do a factory restore n format ur internal sd card
i was about too put some of my videos on the tab from my pc so i connected threw usb and it shows a cdrom drive wtf? And the files pop up but it says write protect than everything goes away.
I just tried a extra empty sd card and it does the same thing..
Anyone know whats going on?
all im running is baxbite kernel for the overclock which i been using for the pass week with no problems till today..
I guess no one knows? I looked it up and it seems like its a common problem but i don't see anything about anyone else having this problem with a galaxy tab except me..
Right now im using webhareing too copy my files over wifi from my home network and it works great but not as fast as usb
I just dont get it evertime i connect the tab too my pc it shows a cdrom than the files show up in it but i cant copy stuff over or even delete a file than 30sec later it disappears..
I remember that happening to vibrant phones. The external sd card wasn't mounted properly so the computer saw it as a cd drive.
What is your computer set up? A windows 7 pc installs the correct driver files. A windows xp pc needs you to get the drivers and install them. I pray for people with mac's.
Just search the general section for "windows xp usb drivers". You don't need to install samsung kies.

same problem with one particular folder yesterday, dont know why this happend
maybe folder atributes or something¿?
im a tad confused with your question, but i'm going to take a guess at answering your question. your installed apps wont show up in your computer because it only mounts the internal "SD" card. The apps are installed in a different partition of your Acer, which is hidden from your desktop computer.
Is USB debugging on? If so it causes problems with connecting to your PC.
I have usb debugging checked, i even downloaded that android file transfer utility for mac, i selected the media file transfer option under the android u.i ..and still nothing has worked, i even tried mounting the storage through twrp but nothing seems to be working. Please help i'm trying to flash roms but i won't be able to if i don't have usb debugging working to put the files on the internal storage. Anyone know how to solve this issue? :crying:

Android File Transfer has never worked for me on Mac going back to several of my android devices as far back as the OG Epic/Epic 4G/S3. The only Android phones it ever worked with for me were oddly Nexus devices, Nexus S 4G and Galaxy Nexus (could have something to do with those phones not having external SD and the way the internal NAND is set up).
Anyway, i'd suggest you just use your memory card to move things back and forth or do what i do which is use FTP wireless between phone and Mac. I use Transmit on the Mac and ES File Explorer (file manager) and SwiFTP (FTP server) on the phone. Never have to plug and unplug USB or take out memory card. My Mac's I.P address is mapped to ES File Explorer and i just browse it and copy back and forth whatever i want OR i run SwiFTP on the phone and browse it from the Mac.
Of-course there are tons of other FTP apps out there you can look into that work just fine as well.
I do find it odd that even mounting via TWRP does not work for you. At least that works fine for me but who wants to turn off their phone anytime they want to transfer a file..

you saved my life !!! <3 using all my thanks on you!
So I just purchased a 128gb sd card off amazon and it came in the mail today. I got it and first tried copying all of my data over from my old sd card. I have a mac so I used disk utility and formatted it ms-dos(fat) because it wouldn't show up in my finder without formatting it. Everything copied but then when i plugged it into my phone it would not show up. I also tried the same process with exfat but my media wouldn't show up, at least it mounted though, but only 200mb. The only way i can get my sd card to work on my phone is formatting it through android but then it doesn't work on my computer. Any ideas of what to do? The phone is also not showing up when I plug it in directly via a usb cable and try to use android file transfer.
Thanks to limited file support by your mac
You can connect your phone, select mtp and should show up in file explorer (if mac supports mtp). Android offers few more connectivities as well if mtp doesn't work. If nothing works, well, use Windows or Linux.

If you use a Mac, download the official Google app 'android file transfer.'
Then when you connect any Android a window will open showing you the contents of your device and you can drag and drop ...
