I've been searching for an answer for this problem but i couldn't find it.
Is there a way to keep the new sms notifications showing in the notification bar but not the text?
some people suggested me the handcent app but i wanted to use the stock one.
Is there a way to do this?
Hi all,
i have a question about notifications :
How long notifications such as a received text messages disappear from the notification bar?
I often have to go to the Friends of the widget to see the new sms icon in green, after 1 or 2 hours that i cant use phone and notifications disappear.
Tnx to all
Notifications normally don't disappear until you're explicitly read them or cleared them. Text notifications should still be there even if you restart your phone.

thanks for the reply, but I still have this problem with the notifications in the bar, as if there was a deadline in time, perhaps some setting?
maybe because i installed the ota 1.72?
I also find the notifications on this phone to be haphazard. I'm sure the light notifications clear after a short time. I've missed several important messages as a result.
I will monitor this more carefully since I am not 100% certain that this behaviour is actually happening -- but I think it is.
Just got this phone last week and same here. Notifications are fine for everything except SMS. I sometimes dont get:
a) A Notification of a new SMS.
b) the messages icon on my home screen, doesnt show a new text count, with a green circle and number.
When I go into messages, there is a new sms or sms's.
Im running 1.75.110.2
and kernel 2.6.32.21
Its a pain.
Concerning the no SMS notification, it's a known bug since the 1.72 update. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=887098 .
I've concluded that SMS is a disaster on Android in all respects.

OK. I have been monitoring this for the last few days. I can now confirm that the notification light goes on when I receive a text (SMS) message but it does not stay on. So, if I don't notice the light at the time, I am unaware that there is a text message waiting for me.
I presume that this behaviour effects everyone running the 1.72 update.
Hey I was wondering if anyone knew of an app similar to SMS pop up (or Go SMS pop up notifications) that worked with stock SMS app. I want to keep stock so the lockscreen notification (that only appear for missed texts) still work, but with SMS Popup on the "close and mark as read" does not work and it also makes it so if I open a text thread it isn't marked as read - I have to click the exact message within the thread for it to be marked unread. Anyone else having this problem or know of a solution?
Thanks!
you'll probably just need to wait for the app to be updated. With the S3 being such a big phone I'm sure it'll be updated to work with it soon.

#not yet resolved sorry
When i receive an SMS the message is displayed at the top notification as a ticker type, i want the notification to only be the SMS message sign.
How do i disable the ticker..
I'm using paranoidandroid and unticked the 'display notification in SMS message settings bit this get rid of any notifications of that type..
Why not leave details of your problem and how it was fixed so that it could help someone else in the future?

I just upgraded my Nexus 7 3G (2012) to 4.4. It used to be on 4.3 that, despite not coming with a proper SMS client, I could install one third-party and send/receive.
Here is what happens now. I can install 8sms and it will tell me it is not my SMS app. However when I tap "SMS Disabled" in Settings, nothing happens. There does not appear to be an SMS system setting on this stock ROM. So I can't seem to get it out of "Sending disabled" mode.
When I text from my phone to my tablet, I get a messaging notification in my tray from Android itself, but tapping it opens up just a toast notification. The message does not actually seem to get recorded anywhere. In 8sms it just appears as (No subject).
Any thoughts on whether this may be surmountable?
I can't answer you but I have a question: where can I find incoming messages? I'm on prepaid and there are incoming messages from the carrier but I can't read them.

They come into the notification tray for me when they arrive, but after reading them they are not stored anywhere. The information just vanishes.
