Notifications disappear from the bar - Desire HD General

Hi all,
i have a question about notifications :
How long notifications such as a received text messages disappear from the notification bar?
I often have to go to the Friends of the widget to see the new sms icon in green, after 1 or 2 hours that i cant use phone and notifications disappear.
Tnx to all

Notifications normally don't disappear until you're explicitly read them or cleared them. Text notifications should still be there even if you restart your phone.

thanks for the reply, but I still have this problem with the notifications in the bar, as if there was a deadline in time, perhaps some setting?
maybe because i installed the ota 1.72?

I also find the notifications on this phone to be haphazard. I'm sure the light notifications clear after a short time. I've missed several important messages as a result.
I will monitor this more carefully since I am not 100% certain that this behaviour is actually happening -- but I think it is.

Just got this phone last week and same here. Notifications are fine for everything except SMS. I sometimes dont get:
a) A Notification of a new SMS.
b) the messages icon on my home screen, doesnt show a new text count, with a green circle and number.
When I go into messages, there is a new sms or sms's.
Im running 1.75.110.2
and kernel 2.6.32.21
Its a pain.

Concerning the no SMS notification, it's a known bug since the 1.72 update. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=887098 .

I've concluded that SMS is a disaster on Android in all respects.

OK. I have been monitoring this for the last few days. I can now confirm that the notification light goes on when I receive a text (SMS) message but it does not stay on. So, if I don't notice the light at the time, I am unaware that there is a text message waiting for me.
I presume that this behaviour effects everyone running the 1.72 update.

Changing notifications

Is it possible to change the notifications so that the trackball keeps flashing when there's a new email / missed call / voicemail etc? At the moment it seems to flash when new email arrives and that's it, so if you miss the flash you can't tell there are any notifications unless you check.
actually just found out that when you have notifications the indicator flashes green, otherwise it doesn't flash at all. Unlike other HTC devices (where they nomally flashed green and then flashed orange to indicate notifications), but I guess it'll do
It does say in the user guide that the LED will flash green when there are notifications, but who ever reads that.
It would be nice to be able to select if the trackball should light up, in which interval and for what notifications. The green led will blink on any notification, not just email and missed call.
I came across an app called SMS Popup. It can change the color of the LED for SMS and MMS notifications in addition to the other great options of popping the message up on the screen and giving you reminders of unread messages.

Gmail Notification Issue?

Hi all, copy and paste from Amon_RA's thread which I've posted in also. I'm running Amon_RA's 1.6.1 ROM and am wondering if the following happens to you as well? If it does, what ROM are you running? Is it donut-based? Thank you.
Some bugs/features in 1.6.1? I'm not too sure if it's intended to function this way in Donut, hence the bug/feature portion. I'm experiencing the following problem on 1.6.1, with email notification and vibration turned on:
Assuming I do not have any email notifications currently, and I have zero unread mail in my email. When I receive a new email (be it for one or two email at a time), my phone will vibrate and have the notification, as expected.
However, this is where things get different. If I were to ignore the notification (let it remain there) or clear the notification WITHOUT tapping on it and going into Gmail, any subsequent emails I receive will only result in having the LED blinking, and the number of unread count in the notifications bar will increase. The phone does not vibrate, neither does it ring.
If I were to tap on the notification and enter Gmail, then my phone will vibrate and notify me again. This happens regardless of whether I read the unread emails in Gmail, or let them remain unread.

Anyone?
Yup, I concur.
I just tested this. Received an email, cleared the notification. Then sent another email to myself from browser. My phone didn't vibrate and notify me, except with the green LED.
Cleared the notification by opening Gmail.
Then i re-sent the same email, notification & vibration is back again.
Wondered what's wrong, i've got a feeling that the flag is set wrongly too.
Ive posted this to Google already but have yet to receive a reply..

[Q] SMS text in notication bar

Hi guys, hope you can help!
Basically the embarrassing situation has occurred a few times now when I'm showing my friends some features of the DHD a personal text comes in which was meant for my eyes only, however the first two lines of it are displayed in the notification bar when it arrives.
Surely there's a way to stop this from happening!?
Cheers!

If you're using HTC stock messaging app then there is no way to stop it. A solution would be to use messaging apps from the market like Handcent SMS and the likes. It will give you the ability to pop the notification but does not show the content.
I've just had a friend ask me this as well. Wanting just a notification sound and icon rather than disclosing the sender or the message body on the lock screen or in the notification bar.
I've got a DHD and don't mind if people see what i'm receiving, even to the degree that i've installed an app called ChompSMS which brings up a window on the homescreen displaying the full message.
I had a fiddle with the ChompSMS settings and it seems that you can increase the privacy settings to make it anonymise the notification, however as soon as you unlock the phone it will still show the full text in a window - I only fiddled a little bit, but couldn't find a way of disabling this without losing other features.
I uninstalled ChompSMS (for the purposes of this experiment) and had a look round at the generic (HTC) messaging settings and it seems like it's all or nothing, as soon as you turn off the 'received notification' option it greys out the options below it, meaning that you get no notification whatsoever when someone messages you (except for the green circle on the messaging widget - if you have this on your homepage).
I'm going to try installing Handcent (another popular messaging app) to see if I can make it do exactly what my friend wants done. I'll message back if I manage it.
Mike.

[Q] SMS count notification - how to get rid of it?

Hi there. I have same problem as here Get rid of SMS notification on top status bar on my Mini.
In HTC Sense homesreec, above SMS tab, is still unread SMS count. Im reading SMS messages in that tab, but I have to open it in messaging app to clear notification. Sometimes I have to open all of them since I dont know which one is unread. Can I disable that notification somehow or set it to mark as read when I read it in Sense Home Screen?
There is a timeout on the SMS tab.
If you have received an SMS and switch to the SMS tab, the counter is only changed when the SMS is shown long enough. If you read quickly and swipe to the next SMS, the timeout is not reached, and the counter not changed.
To quickly show which SMS are not read yet, go to "All messages". You will see an overview of your contacts and the unread messages from these contacts.
Thank you very much, really. You're right, I never reached that timeout before, I'm reading too fast. I'll wait for it now, it's working

Post-APG3 build: No notification icons whatsoever on AOD

(sorry for the typo in the headline - it's of course the 'PFG' build I'm referring to...)
If flashing the new stock firmware for my S7E, I have suddenly noticed that no notification icons (with counters) whatsoever (for missed calls, text messages, emails) are now being displayed on AOD.
This is what I know for sure:
My S7E (with the PFG firmware installed) does NOT display AOD notification icons for:
- New/unread Email messages (built-in Samsung app)
- New/unread Gmail messages
But since I haven't been using the S7E for that long, and because I'm a bit of a 'flashing addict' (flashing every new firmware as soon as it becomes available), I have to admit that I can't be 100% percent sure that this wasn't also the case with my last installed firmware build (PF3).
Nevertheless, I distinctly remember actually seeing AOD notification icons for (in the very least) missed calls and text messages in some of my earlier installed builds...
The strange thing is: My S7E is perfectly able to show notifications for new/unread Gmail messages on the Edge screen, when I do the back-and-forth swipe on the AOD screen... So why not have a similar notification icon and counter for new/unread Gmail messages on the AOD screen? This totally baffles me... ;/
Are any of you guys out there experiencing anything similar? I really hope you can help me shed some more light on this issue.
I just tested on pg3 and calls, messages and mail show up like they should. I'm pretty sure It'll go away after a clean flash. Maybe try clearing cache from recovery first.

I'm talking about notification icons on the AOD (Always On Display). And the AOD does NOT display notifications of new emails messages, neither in Gmail or the built-in (Samsung) Email app...
