Quarx Kernel Question - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Regarding this new kernel I have few questions...
Apart from swap ram and stuff like that (which will increase our performance), will it make easier for quarx or other devs solve bugs in custom roms? will it increase battery life? and... will Quarx get hired by Moto so he STAHPS laughing from moto?

Performance will be better and bug fixing will be easier. It could indirectly increase battery life as well

[Q] CM7/Gingerbread Roms Battery Life

Hey everybody. I tis my understanding that the CM7 / Gingerbread roms have battery life problems because the device does not really "sleep" properly. My question is, is this an issue that we expect the amazing hackers of xda to be able to resolve through tweaking the kernel?
From what I have read this has been fixed in the latest beta (Nightlies) and should be implemented in the next stable release.

Miui 2.3.5 vs 2.6.32

I was just wondering what advantages does the 2.6.35 based Miui has compared to its predecessor 2.6.32? I find 2.6.32 based Miui pretty neat, fast and stable (not to mention the fact that I can flash it without bricking my phone...again ), what do I gain flashing 2.6.35? I heard the camera is better but what else?
Just wondering, not trying to provoke anyone. Feel free to write your own experiences 'bout these two versions, their advantages and disadvantages etc.
edit: there's a typo in the headline, sorry....
What i've noticed so far in .35 is lower batterylife, and better 3d.
Lower battery life?
It seems odd because I have amazing battery life. Actually, incredible, almost like a new phone. But then others seem to have bad battery life.
I am using RAM manager only and have my CPU freq set to 1.5ghz/800mhz using Smartassv2.
Yesterday, I took my phone off charge at 6.30am, and I made about 4 phone calls, had 3g on all day and at about 7pm my battery was down to 73%. That is some amazing battery.
You must be joking as 32 was better at battery life and other things. For example gps not working even with cm7

So for a non-gamer you'd recommend 2.6.32 over 2.6.35?

Yes. You have a bit better battery life, and speaker dies not have random noices when using low volume. Camera is better in .35, but it is not reason good enought for updating.

No niin vähän ajattelinkin....or as we say in Finnish: "Rodger that"
At the end of the day, do what works for you.
Personally, after installing .35 MIUI and calibrating my battery, I noticed a massive performance boost and noticed the battery was lasting a lot longer. My phone is working much better then before.
But as I said, it can be different for everyone. Some people have noticed the same as me, some people have had it worse.

And so I did...kind of anyways. The curiosity got the best of me and now I'm on 2.6.35 which is working beautifully so far...Gotta hand it to our devs once again, they make the average cheap u8800 to work at a totally different level compared to the boring stock ROMs.
For me it was a great update. Touchscreen, battery life, speed and camera, are the great improvements that keep me using it, now with the miui rom...

Noob: best ROM battery related

Hi, I'm a noob here in the Note. I've been a heavy user and a quite massive flasher of my SGS2.
I'm expecting my Note tomorrow and I'm very frightened in advance by its battery life. So I'm thinking of rooting instantaneously as I open its box but I need your advice.
Should I just root it with the CFroot and leave the stock Samsung touchwiz or should I flash any ROM with good battery results? If so, please I need a small amount of opinions. Which one is the most reliable? Do the latest ICS betas have the same battery drain as the latest GBs? Should I go ICS to start enjoying the Note experience or stay in a GB rom?
Please help me to grasp the state of things in the Note world as I open the box.
Right now I'm using a custom ROM, Darky ROM to be exact and I'm really pleased. This one seems to work best overall for me (along with the latest franco kernel).
Most people however have reported great performance with using the latest Abyss kernel and Rocket ROM. Those for me, weirdly were slower and Abyss got me battery drain.
However, my experience differs from that of most users out there, so basically you should probably try them yourself at first and see which one suits you better.

Thank you pal for the first clues!
Checkrom got me the best battery life so far, mainly it is a lite rom.
Hope its not placebo!

At the moment I'm using Rocket Rom together with the Speed Kernel which, with a few tweaks here and there, gives me awesome battery life while using and in standby.
Lite Roms have most of the Samsung and some other stuff removed. As a rule, they are more battery efficient. The best ones IMO are Cassie's XtraLite and Chrak's Small Rom. Of course, removed apps that you need can be added back in both of these Roms.
I used both with Franco's kernels, and they were fast, smooth and easy on the battery.
As for ICS, my advice would be to stay out of it for the time being. You have things to learn before being able to cope with the necessary high maintenance and fixing the ICS Roms require ATM.
No disrespect meant, just stating the fact.

I had the same issues with Battery life of SGN. Then I rooted with Franco Kernel 2.6.35.7 & have almost increased my Battery life by 30%
So try it & if you find bettter ROM, pl do share
Thanks & All the best

Android version battery performance.

I have tried tons of roms on my DZ with increasing performance as each version and sub version gets increased.
With the performance I have (to be expected) noticed an improvement in battery. Until I get to ICS. No matter what rom I try, be it aosp, miui, sense or cm, the battery goes back to what I would expect from a 2.1 rom.
Could it be due to the lack of correct drivers or is ICS genuinely more power hungry? I have noticed an increase in battery on my TF101 but I think that is down to optimisations in the kernel etc as I get best from stock the rom on that device.
Ps. This is not a dig at the devs who work on ICS. I realise there are things that we need and the way they have got things running as good as this is simply outstanding.
What do you guys think about my ramblings? (The content, not the length )

ICS is incredibly beta for our device, devs haven't even begun to optimize battery life yet, too many bugs to fix. When the final version of CM9 is released for our device and the battery sucks, then you can complain. But right now battery life is close to the bottom of priorites behind graphics glitches, lag, camera.....
I wasn't complaining. Just thought I'd open a discussion about it. I noticed a similar drop in battery when the first 2.3 rom came out for the i9000. Was wandering if I'm the only one?
I hugely appreciate the work put in by the devs and am trying to teach myself various code versions so I can contribute.
The performance is so good on ics that the slight drop in life is perfectly acceptable.

Cyanogen mod and stock

Hi,
I wanted to ask a small question...
I'm currently on the stock ROM after trying out AOKP and PA once.
I realized I wanted to keep it as stock as possible, so I'm going for a ROM with greatest performance and minimal customization....
I know we are not supposed to ask a ROM vs ROM feature comparison, I can do that myself. So here's my question...
Which ROM will give me greatest performance? It can be regardless if the features it has, just can you tell me of any ROM with greatest performance?

I am sharing my fuzzy experiences
Well, I have tried some ROMs and Kernels for Nexus 4 in the Google Nexus 4 -> Nexus 4 Original Android Development and can shed some light on your query.
If you want performance, it just does not depend on ROM, but looking at your profile and thanks meter, I believe you already know that. It can depend on ROM, Kernel, Over Clocking etc. etc. and we can go on that all day on what is better and what is not.
I have found Xylon quite fast which gave me good Antutu Scores of ~19000 without over-clocking or any other kernel. To be honest, I did not perform extensive tests to try the performance but I find visually and functionally no difference in using a Cyanogen Mod Nightly which gave me around ~14000 Antutu score and Xylon which gave me ~19000. I am more of a feature enthusiast rather than performance. To answer your query in one line,
Stock with Trinity Kernel => ~18000 (No overclocking)
CyanogenmMod => ~14000
Xylon => ~19000
Antutu Scores and Sorry I haven't saved the screen shots of Stock with Trinity Kernel & Xylon but here is a screenshot of my CyanogenMod. So if you have to just believe me of my Xylon scores
I have calculated performance based on Antutu benchmark and that may not be ideal for your performance needs.
