Android 4.1.1 for Asus Slider SL101? - Eee Pad Transformer General

I've searched high and low and didn't find any compatible JB rom for the Asus Slider SL101. The best rom so far for this device seems to be Megatron ICS rom. I have tried official cm10 and the unofficial RaymanFX cm10 and TeamEOS JB roms. All of them work. A few key points where sl101 differs from tf101 breaks the whole experience.I am hoping one of the JB rom's will take the SL101 under its wing. That's all.

Everyone who is working on the JB ROMs are busy still trying to fix all of the bugs that occur on the TF101 device. So unfortunately, we'll have to wait until a little more support for the SL101 is added. I'm keeping my fingeres crossed.

One thing that I don't understand is, why the SL101 didn't go popular like the TF101? I have been using my slider for the last 2 years and absolutely love it.

Well for one thing, the extra battery in the keyboard dock is huge for some people. Plus, when a TF101 doesn't have the dock attached, it's so much lighter than the Slider, which makes it so much more convenient to to carry around and play games on.

I frequently play Shadowgun, GTA and DeadTrigger in my slider and thoroughly enjoy it. I have never gamed on another tablet other that SL101 so I probably may not qualify to make any judgements. I think we may be inclining towards feather-light devices or maybe purely holographic.

I agree! I, too, have been looking around for some SL101 dev love. I know this process takes time to work out the bugs with the JB roms before some SL101 help comes along, but it would be nice if we had a dev who used the SL101 as well. I have had the tablet for about a year and love it! I have found ways to make it my laptop replacement for classes in my doctoral program. I know there was an ICS "compatibility pack" that you could flash over the TF101 ICS roms that worked pretty slick! I attempted to make a similar program, but it turns out it's much more difficult than one might expect without an official JB build from ASUS to work with... in the mean time, I have been tolerating the small nuances from running TF101 builds If you find any helpful sites or resources specifically for the SL101 please do share with the small group of us who love the slider. I have found the best JB rom from TF to SL has been the EOS nightly builds (specifically 76) I hope that helps... Best of luck!

yes the TeamEOS JB rom for tf101 works quite well on sl101 but the onscreen kbd not coming up when needed coz the kbd is set to hardware keyboard means I slide open and use the hardware kbd everytime I need to even for just few inputs makes it annoying. Also, when you slide down the screen goes off, not good. Apart from that the JB build is much smoother and faster than ICS build that i have been using now. Well, no more complains coz i remember how sweet it was when i installed Megatron ICS rom for the first time.

I really like the slider (as compared to other tablets. I don't like tablets). I never thought of weight in a device as much of an inconvenience. It's the size of tablets that bothers me so the slider works fine for me. I really don't get why it failed to catch on with any devs. I mean I'm never going to as productive with a tablet, so why use it as a laptop replacement? The slider seems like such a good middle ground. If I wanted a laptop I'd bring one, but that doesn't mean I don't like my keyboard.

I'll also jump on the Slider support wagon here. I got my Asus Eee Sllider back from my daughter (she wasn't using it) after I got her a Mac. Like most of you guys who have flashed their phones a few dozen times, its different with our tablets and need to be careful. I really have been enjoying the Slider. I did have The Asus Transformer Infinity for awhile but gave that to my other daughter for her birthday. (damn - that Infinity was sweet)
Keep up the support..

[Q] roms and kernals for the transformer

so i just rooted yesterday so far i likey likey, however not a fan of the prime i dont really see a difference so i was wondering what everyone is using as there custom rom on rooted t.f. i am also using a o.c. kernal running at 1.6 ghz. that is the best feauture that i have found.
i dont think any of the devs have got ROMs that are wildly different from stock yet - thats not a criticism of the devs, its just that over time more fixes and improvements and variations will appear.
I tried the Magnus ROM and thats fun if you want to play a bit with fonts. The Magnus 'standard' font truncated stuff a little too much for me but the dev has built in a great new font changer app.
To be honest though i reverted to PRIME.
I remember when i first got my DesireHD.......not a lot was happening in the development section...look at it now.Still early days here.....the good times are coming

Agreed. The development scene on the Desire and then the Desire HD really snowballed and I can see the TF being the 'dev tablet of choice' for the moment ...
Well, fingers crossed anyway
The first ROM i used was modac hr5 and it as nice. Now I have prime although I didn't meant on getting it, but i must say that it works great. It is notably faster then stock, and although there are not many changes on the surface (except this one transformer rom who's name I don't remember) most of them have some cool tweaks under the hood. .
Just out of curiosity, what is it that you are looking for in a rom? I mean, prime does quite a bit of under the hood tweaking which makes it noticeably faster. If you are looking for it to look different, check the themes section.
To be fair, Honeycomb is closed-source at the moment. So.. it's kind of limited. It's even luckier that we even have a custom 3.1 kernel without ASUS releasing the source yet.
Voodoo components are coming for the TF101 very shortly soon! That'll help feed your hunger. If you never used Voodoo Sound (or anything related) you're going to be heavily impressed.

Best rom for my iconia

Currently on the flashable .22 3.1. What in your opinion is the best rom for this device.
Sent from my A500 using XDA Premium App
I just ordered this tab myself and I'm interested in opinions on the ROMs available. Are there many developers at this point?
so far now...
- Galaxy
- Picasso
- Xoom (3.2)
from the virtuous team
with kernel UNITY
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Honeyvillain (Stock Acer improved )
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Taboonay (Stock Acer improved )
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
the best??? hummm should better try them before.
Ya I couldn't say which one is best either but I do love the functions on Virtuous Galaxy. Personally I'm going to wait a few more months or a year before I play with any ROM's -
Unless of course that Galaxy ROM gets perfected. I'm twitching for it.
I myself tried both Virtuous Galaxy and Virtuous Xoom and I have to say I really like the Xoom one better. It's smoother, and I experienced odd input lag on the Galaxy one. Both are however several notches better than the HC 3.0 by Acer!
just messin...
Just now messing with from mods on my iconia. Do the zoom or galaxy roms support the USB drive?

That's a bummer. Nothing about the Xoom version interests me.
Here's hoping the Galaxy version gets better *crosses fingers*
running stock 3.1
CWM installed and ready to go - but have not flashed any custom roms, as the system running stock 3.1 works great for my purposes. If this changes I will consider going the custom ROM route

You say that now, but flashing is addictive. Once you realize what else your device is capable of, you will continue to modify it to fit your needs. My Galaxy Tab is far more than it was when I purchased it. I will continue to use it due to its voice capabilities.

I would say...
I tested every rom on XDA for A500
Xoom : no improvement, actually I felt like a downgrade rather than something else...not because a bad rom but maybe just because not fit to my need.
Galaxy: I love the UI, but.... feel like an overall slugggginess... the widget are maybe too much... I didn't checked the latest latest version so maybe it's improved... (the 5Mpx was not yet fixed...)
Picasso: Dunno... didn't see like a better things
Taboonay: this rom satisfied all my needs but lately maybe because of kernel... felt like some problem happening
ALL those rom have a common point I do not like it's the "automatic" 3G support... well I didn't buy my tablet to get 3G on it from a third part things or modified things... I just tether with my phone and it's really enough.
latelly I restocked my tabletS (both of them) one run the .40 and the other .38 well I am satisfied
maybe later I will return on custom rom
I rooted my tablet, that is at this moment fit my needs.
it all comes to your own personal preferences. I would encourage you to just try out a few and see what you like best. The virtuous team does do a very nice job with their roms though. I'm currently using virtuous zoom 3.2 but I do like the virtuous galaxy too but it needs a little work.
Honeyvillain (Stock Acer improved )
is best for me, more over, richardtrip is my favorite dev. since HTC Desire appeared.
I have a 3.1 that works and has least no. of FCs and odd things, comparing to stock rom by acer
My tab has a problem that it shut itself when in sleep mode , i would say 50% chance.
Tried most of the roms and no rom solve it 100%.
Now, Im with xoom3.2 ,,, so far so good (but just 3 hours ago)
Any idea???? Is it hardware or soft ware problem????
Of the ones I've tried:
Honeyvillan: was the best for me for a while - everything worked and was stable.
Virtuous_galaxy: I like the UI extensions, but external SD card could not be accessed via file manager. Keyboard didn't work, and I believe video camera didn't work well. Also exchange didn't work.
Virtuous Xoom: appears to be the best now. The things that need to work for me are:
cifs
exchange email
sd card access
video camera
gps
All these above things work. I did see one hard crash/reboot so far but seems basically stable. Its also overclockable, which Honeyvillan didn't seem to be.
The basic reason I like the Virtuous Xoom best is because HC 3.2 has pretty much fixed the orientation lag issue, where the UI wouldn't be as responsive if the tab is not in default orientation. I velcro it upside down on the dash in my car (for certain reasons).
The USB keyboard does not work, but I see there are instructions in the forum for getting that going. I actually don't need it very often anymore, thanks to the swiftkey X keyboard.

Android 4.1.1 / Cyanogenmod 10 - Your impressions

I want to know what you guys think of the new Jellybean ROMs that we've all been blessed with. Are you happy with it? Any comments, anything? Just wanted to hear what you all think about the new OS on our tablets.
Personally I love it more than anything. Honeycomb and ICS have been nothing but pure lag, from stock ROMs to custom ROMs. I never thought I'd see the day this tablet actually performed smoothly, so when Jellybean first arrived (and pretty damn fast, as well), I was excited. Tried the ROM and loved it, it's just ridiculously smooth, and it works. Now I still get lag playing MC3 or Monster Life, but those are heavy games and Gameloft is pretty ****ty when it comes to properly making an Android game so that's excused. But other games like Dead Trigger work without a hitch, and emulators no longer suffer either. And just for being Android, it gets even better since I can use a wireless mouse over USB OTG, a BT keyboard, and a PS3 controller for games and emulators. All thanks to Jellybean, my tablet is awesome now
And also a thanks to MapleSyrup and pershoot, for the two that gave us Jellybean ROMs at all
Yes, i like cyanogenmod 10, it's smooth and I haven't really noticed any over the top bugs...Battery life could be better but i prefer to sacrifice battery for that smoothness... And now that leads me to Samsung and their ****ty update plan...I mean come on i have waited 8 months to get ICS that lags like hell and doesn't play youtube videos correctly?...They should have just skipped ICS and focus on jelly bean...Other tablets are getting jellybean and we just got ICS, wonder how much will it take them to provide the stock jellybean...another 8 months?(i'm a fan of touchwiz that's why i *****...and i don't want a 7 inch tablet(nexus 7)).
I Skype lots so need a working camera. Can't wait till CM10 has the camera driver. Any word on wheh this can be expected ?
I have cm10 and it seems so fast but a Quadrant test must tell it's value...the previous tests show that ICS is faster but JB's graphics are better...
Now that the rear camera is working the ROM is worth flashing(I never use the camera but couldn't bear it's loss...).
What do you TouchWiz fans think about putting it on the JB?it seems possible, doesn't it?let me know... ...

The reason Quadrant scores are lower in JB is because JB puts the UI at a higher priority, basically to keep the whole thing smooth. Antutu's latest update takes that into account and as far as I know, it's the only benchmark app that has been updated for Jellybean.
I keep installing ROMs on here to find the smoothest reliable ICS or JB, and CM10 is working beautifully for me. I especially like the subtle mods, like weather on the lock screen, email count in status bar, ability to enter settings without the app you were in being closed by the system, three action lockscren... the list goes on.
Definitely gets my vote unless you can't live without camera.

I actually used CM10 Preview by pershoot and was highly impressed by the performance and smoothness. However, I recently started to require skyping for work related meetings so had to switch back to ICS 4.0.4. When JB works with front camera, expect me to be the first in line.

Android 4.1.1? which one? confused like hell!?
Maybe it is only me confused here. and this is my first post, so be gentle
so I got excited when Samsung finally release Android 4.0.4!, could not wait so I downloaded UK Galaxy Tab 10.1 wifi (I have US one).
all good, but still not smooth, slow, then realize we need Android 4.1.1 (I have Google Nexus 7)...so jumped here, checking JB ROMs. that's when I start get confused. which one should I download that has less bug? Android 4.1.1 - CyanogenMod 10? or Toldo's JellyBeanRom ICS v5? or MapleSyrup's JellyBeanRom ICS? when you read each post (usually hundreds of replies), you even got more confused...
don't take me wrong, I love what our developer is giving us! even if this my first post, I already donated. however, it would be so helpful if there's new thread that lists all JB ROMs, and clearly outlines what works and what does not works, of any additional fixes. Now my galaxy tab 10.1 sitting there, staring at me, and dying to get on JB
Cheers to all:good:

I've been using CM10 builds from Pershoot and I've been really pleased. Fast, responsive, and all the apps I use day-to-day work beautifully. Battery life is trouble-free. I do occasionally get lockups, but I'm too lazy to try to identify how -- a lot of the time, it's opening large PDFs. Otherwise, most tasks are trouble-free. Rear cam works beautifully.
Unfortunately, I'm cursed with an SCH-i905 -- and no 4G LTE until Samsung gets off their ass and releases source that pershoot can merge. When that day comes, I will wet my pants in excitement.
I have a 4G LTE phone as well, so I just tether the tablet, and life is grand... but I sure would love to have it natively working on my tab. For a few months I had to revert back to stock HC on it because I needed the 4G... now that I've switched back to CM, I've been very happy.

It is CM10, even the developers hate to hear it called CMX... This is Android, not Crapple!
For me, it is running great on both my tablet and my phone minus the occasional scrambled boot on my tablet (never happened on cm9 or any other roms) which I still get after updating to the official ICS boot loaders. But, it seems way more polished and complete then the early versions of CM9. I have made it my daily driver on both devices. Battery life is better than 4.0.4 also as long as you turn off Google now and so e of the location services. It will only get better with time...
BAHA - Crapple.
Yeah sorry about that - it does say CM10 in my sig, I just got lazy typing last night. My bad.

So Crappie owns the letter X? I use it as a roman numeral when abbreviating CM.
Also, I'm curious, what difference do the ICS bootloader provide? Is it a noticeable improvement?

Haha, of course they don't own it... I just heard entropy tell someone in another thread not to call it cmx Since the boot animation that coined the cmx name is in no way official and they (cm10 dev team) have never called it that. If people are searching for answers about cm10 and people are calling it cmx, it may confuse users and make them think cmx is something different. We all know it is not, but we should all be using the real name for consistency purposes, right? I didn't mean to be an a**, just stating the facts.
Whereas CM10 is still in alpha stage, I can say that it works very well! This promises to be the best ROM.
I was running MapleSyrup's AOSP JellyBean build for about a week and then switched over to pershoot's CM10. While I found they were very similar I stuck with CM10 because it feels a bit smoother. I had a little issue with a scrambled screen when booting where only for a second or two the screen was rolling but cleared up afterwards. I did not have a rolling recovery screen. I updated the bootloader to the ICS version and it's been great since. I also haven't had any SOD's either when charging overnight or just sitting there.
The only issue which I still have is Youtube HD videos get very choppy and this happened on both JB builds.
But another good news tidbit is that HBO GO was updated to support JB and that was the only thing I was missing since running an ICS rom. And it seems to work perfectly!
So, thanks go out to Maple and pershoot and all the other devs out there that contribute to getting us up to speed. I was just over my dad's house and updated his GTab to ICS for him and all the while I was chuckling because I've been running JellyBean for a while before he even got ICS!

First of all, the first link is an ICS ROM not JellyBean.
With that out of the way, both CM10 and AOSP are running the same kernel so you will not see much difference in performance. CM10 with have more features then AOSP will have because AOSP is a "pure" experience from Google source.
It depends on your preference but I like CM10.

Rear Camera works at the moment for AOSP and CM10. That is why I said the kernel is the same. Right now, pershoot is working on getting CM9 to RC status and then will be working on fixing the front camera and other fixes.

I'm using CM10 and facing problem like original 3.1 ROM that I let it charging over night and the tab dead could not re-star again .I have to open the back cover removed the batteries socket and put it back and can star again ,is happened to me 3 times .
And other problem is Google play not working properly many time I put the install button but it not response .Almost other works perfect.
I'm using CM 10 and have been for about a week now.
Very nice!
My thanks to all the geniuses that made that possible!
I am, however, considering replacing it with a ROM that allows Flash. Unless I can find a way to get Flash working. Amazon Instant Video runs on Flash, which makes me wonder what they are going to do when the Fire upgrades to JB...
I don't use the tablet much, as my GNexus (also running CM10) does all I really need to do, but I do use it for videos and games.
Can I get any recommendations on whether I should switch to something like Galaxy Task, or just go back to ICS?

I downloaded Flash directly from Adobe's site as they pulled out from Play store. I was looking for it, and then read couple of posts, and they said download it directly from adobe. I am attaching Flash apk file here that worked for AOSP ROM that I have on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 wifi (GT-P7510). It is a bit laggy, but it works. Chrome browser has some issue with it too, in fact on Google Nexus 7 has the same thing, so believe it is generic Google JB thingy.
I flashed with AOSP ROM on my galaxy tab (GT-P7510 wifi), and have been using for several days. I was planing to go back to original stick ICS (USA), but decided to not to because it made my galaxy tab (GT-P7510 wifi) very fast, and buttery smooth! it is almost feel like I got 'new' tablet. Even my wife, when she picked my tablet first time after I flashed, said Wow what did you do!? (she has new iPad!). Anyway, so far did not notice any issue (other than we all know front cam does not work), but again I have not done any heavy testing or heavy games yet on it.
I picked AOSP ROM over CM10, because I like pure Google JB experience (like my new Google Nexus 7!). I am closely monitoring the developer threads for any new update. I know they demonstrated working front cam, but it seems like it breaks other part, so I am sure it will be get fixed soon
I've been using CM10 since MapleSyrup started it and continued with pershoot taking over. I really like how nicely it works and the good outweighs the few times for the wifi dropping out or the sod after charging. pretty easy/fast to just reboot so it doesn't matter too much.

Well, I have HP Touchpad with WebOS and Android CM9 installed. Even if there are several issues on TouchPad using CM9, I can still live with it, after all I switch from WebOS to Android to play some games, so considering simple reboot or turn on airplane mode on and off to fix Wifi dropping issue is not really deal breaker for me. It is the JB's smoothness and how fast it is what really attracts me the most.

[Q] Stable, fast / responsive ROM for A501?

Howdy,
Question in short: As the Topic says. I read a lot of threads in the forum about the a501 but they were all like yes and no and yes and no... So I wasn't able to figure, what's true or not. Even the post concerning my question were quiet old or just unclear about performance etc.
I'm using a TF101 with Timdurus KatKiss ROM. It's amazing stable, ultra responsive and makes a lot much faster pads look like oldtimers.
Anyway. I decided to root, Rom and mod a befriended Acer Iconic A501 Tab as a Christmas present since it was quiet lame and slow on the Stock 4.0.3. After an approx 30 hours marathon I was finally able to get the bootloader working, a recovery installed, the partition repaired (I kinda messed it up due to a lack of knowledge and reading... Thought flashing would be as easy as it was on the Transformer pad... I was wrong), a ROM installed and made the unique bootanimation I made for her working.
The problem: The Tablet still is horrible unresponsive and slow (compared to my Asus Tf1010). As far as I know, the hardware should be quiet similar. So I'm wondering why.
I used Thors 4.3.1 ROM. I saw there are more ROMs like Lightspeed, evil Alex or flex but these are mostly HC or ICS. Unfortunately I'm horribly short on spare time. Also she needs her Tab so I can't test the ROMs myself. So I was wondering, if someone could tell me a solid, up to date, stable and responsive ROM For the A501. 3G-support would be awesome, but is not a must have.
Appreciate your help / advices.
Merry Xmas / Happy new year

Using Thor 4.3.1 with the new t50 Kernel for now until 4.4 is all good.
3G works (even if a bit sloppy - felt) with the native pre-release driver.
Warning: Just stay away from several launchers for now (Next, NOVA,...) they are for some reason horrible slow. Untakable slow! Also makes the system instable. Seems to have to do with the system wallpaper rendering. Lots of ROMs seem to suffer from this for some reasons right now.
Cheers
