Has he got a green lens or a red lens?
I suggest to make sure you know exactly which sbf he should have and then you shouldn't have a problem using RSDlite.
Just try again and then try restart your computer and try again, and if that fails then find a different computer to use
It wouldn't hurt to update RSD Lite to a more recent version, 5.7 as of now.

DL link?
There is a dedicated thread to determining your lens colour which you can check out - just search for it, but 99.9% of the time its okay to just look at the lens with your eye and you can easily see if its red or green pretty easily.
RSDlite 5.7 - just do a virus check before you install.

red lense
downloaded 5.7 tryed again... still not good, which SBF should i try?

So here is my story, i tried to install a new rom via rom manager.
It was all going well until i hit the back button (stupid).
The phone was not responding so i pulled the battery out.
Tried to boot and then i got this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Yes, i know that's normal
Then i got this:
When i touch the power button the screen goes off.
When i touch it again you will see the screen again.
So then i boot into Recovery with the "!" screen.
1. Wipe data, cache and dalvik cache.
2. Flash zip from sd
But then i get this error: Nohup
Can someone please help me?
Can you get into USB fastboot?

CWM is the only recovery image for the Legend. So many issues could be solved if people just used fakeflash.
Well if you look at it that way It would be really nice if there was a stickie called "FakeFlash: try this before you ask !" in bold red size 25 text
edit: in every one of those 4 forums
Fake flash is in the roll-up sticky in the dev section
Yes, but not in red bold font In this way I kinda like modaco's pinned topics

Currently the odin stocks we have for 2.3.3 are only for the i9023. I suppose that ur friend has the i9020 if his screen is now black.
good news , dont worry,u can fix it.
it happened to me twice already( intentionally as i was curious of the 9023 built)
all he has to do is enter the download mode and flash the correct rom for it. Note that he wont be seeing anything except a black screen but if he did the steps right, then he should get the download mode without any problem and then when u plug the usb and u see the small yellow rectangle....com... , you know you are good to go!
Find Solution !!!
it happened to me (I have a I9020)
Just boot back into download mode
and then flash the phone again with Odin
Flash via Odin only correct CSC image.
You can find it on:

Now the camera don't work, all black, only record sound, and no pictures, I've rooted the phone it comes with bl7, installed 2ndinit, I try with several firmwares, and try to put cm7.2 custom rom. try camera fix for common defy, try everything... but nothing... Could be a hardware failure, as you said you've tried almost everything possible.
at least someone the CM7.2 don't let me even open the aplication saying that "can't comunicate whit camera" now I'm on retail german. 2.3.6. and can open but catlog don't showme what module... catlog say failed getting calibration files" from camera... failed loading the default calibration data" I think if I can find those files... or something?
Your phone may so-called "green lens" defy+.
yes I think the same, but I can't find a greenbread for 4.5.1 134 dfp 231 compilation, I can't reflash to another compilation because this compilation is the only I can root. I've got bl7. if I put another greenbread mod, throw bl error.
someone?
The other day I installed Quarx's Jellybean and today I finally went to go take a picture and when I do it will only capture a black screen. I haven't tried installing any other versions except CM10-20120724-NIGHTLY-mb525. Before I go through the hassle of doing that I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and if there is a simple fix to it. Also I'm not exactly sure whether or not I have the Defy or Defy+ or if I have a green or red lens, if that may have something to do with it.
I'm not exactly great at this sort of thing so if you guys have any ideas let me know.
Find out what your phone is and what camera, it really is important if you want it to work. Use any hardware info app to find out if you have a SOC (green) or Bayer (red) camera, unless of course its a defy plus, screens below

I definitely have a Defy, not a Defy+. And the app I downloaded does not say what the lens type is and it might not even be accessing the camera.

Under the battery is a sticker like this:
MB525 = DEFY (red or green lens)
MB526 = DEFY + (red lens)
That app worked well. I have a green lens. I'm not really sure what that means.

It means you need to make sure the rom you are using is compatible with green lense or has a green camera fix, however camera doesn't work on some builds anyway because rom is in early development

You need to get a file called "libOMX.TI.JPEG.Encoder.so" (attached at the end of reply)
after that you need to use a root explorer (my favorite is "es file explorer" free at play store)
enable root and system mount in the file explorer settings.
after that upload the lib file to your phone sd and transfer it from the sd to your root foldr: "/system/lib/" the file permission should be rw-r--r--
That worked perfectly.
Thanks a lot rtk217

Your odin flashing sequence failed. Repeat the odin flash procedure with that screen up until successful. Make sure you're plugged into at least a usb2.0 port on your computer, and using the original usb cable that came with the phone.
If you're unsure of what baseband you originally had, your best bet is to flash the latest firmware
If you can't get the latest tar to install using odin, try to run cf autoroot through odin. It has been known to fix that error,
The OP should really come back online and let us know of he has been able to fix the problem.
