The best combination - Xperia Play General

I'm not sure what's going on here, but no matter what kernel and rom combination is attempted, nothing outperforms stock 2.3.4 with my device (doomkernel v14 works nicely too). From stock ics to cm9 all have some inexcusable lag. Like running Windows 7 on my Acer One.

ICS in general will never be smoother than gingerbread. You'll just have to put up with the inexcusable lag on ICS or stay with gingerbread.

I think most of the GB rom has already got some of ics/jb feature, so why bother with low gaming perf rom like ics/jb?? Just saying.

Closest stock android rom??

Hi, sorry if its been asked before but is there a rom that is close to stock android? If so which is it?
Thanks

Why don't you just stay with the stock ROM?
Think the op was asking closest to stock android not stock sgs2
Cm7 looks like stock but has loads of extra goodness. Not for beginners and its still a wip but still.. well its ace the devs are doing magic stuff

Yeah I tried cm on my desire hd it was quite good but always went back to sense as I liked it, but in my opinion touchwiz is a bit more stock androidy feel to it rather than sense , so wanted to go all out and just try out stock android , so the cm rom, is it available yet? Obviously not stable I take it??
Oh I would also like to ask if someone can tell me is what's the difference between cm stable and nightly builds??
I think I can assume what stable means but never knew what a nightly build was??
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
Its not 'stable' yet for sgs2 in fact the first nightly only came out today.
Stable releases are known quantities I.e set milestones whereas nightly builds have commits added as they're submitted... nature of the beast some will fix stuff some might cause issues. Pot luck.
Stick with stable builds (there isn't one for sgs2 yet) if you want something rock solid without the occasional gremlin or two.
I quite like touchwiz but always run launcherpro so rarely bump into tw!

Best ROM, Swiper's latest ICS Muiu running Mason kernel.
However, no 4g.

I have seen a lot of people raving about swipers ICS MIUI. I downloaded but haven't flashed yet. What makes it so great? I will probably have to give it a try tonight. I just hope its a smooth set up. I hate having to flash gps drivers and stuff like that. But if its that good I guess its worth the setup time.
Deck ICS

Exactly. Once again, NOBODY can tell you what the best rom for you is. Everyone has their own wants/needs, and not to mention the same rom will not run the same on every single device. Try a few roms, and find one you like, simple as that.
I use the Miks rom and it run flawlessly
I've been running nitrous for awhile now. The dev is extremely good at taking requests and keeping everyone updated on his progress.
Thanks a lot for the suggestions. I tried nitrous but the battery life blew dogs. I'm in SOS 1.9 ics I love ics are there any other good ics roms out there.

I'm partial to MikG 3.11 (or the latest). Stable, smooth, decent features and stays pretty updated.

Anything MIUI has been awesome for me...So customization & runs fast, everything works besides 4g but I cant get 4g in this area anyways...Plus the themes change up the look of your phone alot!! BTW Why is ICS Muiu running Mason kernel the best? Does GPS camera video ect work?? How do I get video or movies from my phone to work on my TV thru QQ player?
n00b-rom with tiamat 3.3.7 is the best rom around its so smooth and everything works

n00b-rom!?!
I am an OG Epic user, and the biggest (only?) complaint I had and have seen with our ICS ports is that the lack of battery life renders the phone unuseable. Is the same the case with the Evo? I see a lot of ICS roms and folks here seem to like it, but I've flashed the Evo's on my account with some roms lately that score unbelievable battery life so I'm hesitant to change.

J is the 10th letter. CM10. That's how ALL cyanogenmod builds are named.
Edit: and jb is 4.1, it's not a new platform, just an "update" you could say so expecting it to look much different is just well stupid.

yeah, i'd be happy to see CM10 on Xperia Play. Google Now will be fun
hi all,
here a few things (didn't test myself, but i heard it from other devs)
it will use less ram
it is VERY smooth (scrolling, everything thanks to butter)
games will probably run better
and more ofcourse
and i thing: maybe sony will give it to us because it is faster it requires less ram (ics= 1024mb jb=512mb like the play has)
and it will be better for gaming!!!!

JELLY BEAN is awesome!

So if you are here every day you may realize that I was the guy who kept saying that GB was incredible. But a few days ago I got bored of it and decided to jump directly to JB 4.1.2, I'm using some random rom calles Kang AOKP or so and totally blown away by its smoothness and customization and battery life. I pushed GB to its limit by extreme customization but it was no way this good. Google and developers did follow the right track, this rom is much morw helpful for my daily use. Of course I still find some bugs but I think I'll try another rom and never come back to older versions. ICS was a failure in my eyes but JB is a perfect win for me.
I heard that from 4.1.2 it's a lot different, so I think I'll keep trying with 4.1.2

+2 actually.
JB is awesome - as a flashaholic I just wish I could try more of the JB ROMS - but some of the download sites suck speed wise for me! or I can't get to them at the office
Rocking ROMS I have used - Jelly King, Vanilla Rootbox, Super Nexus and RR.
Dual boot Jelly King + whichever takes my fancy for today on Dorimanx 7.10
Improvement over ICS is :laugh::good:
Another Vote For Rootbox...Very Impressive ROM
Jelly Bean is really awesome, pity the big delays that non-nexus devices have to get official ROMs.
Praise the developers that work hard to offer us all the goodies ahead of time

vsync experimental ROM ftw.
And custom kernels have a workaround for low headphone volume. There aren't really that many noticeable bugs to be honest.

+1 I've tried several ICS ROMs, but was getting great performance with GB so I didn't move. Then moved directly to JB, never look back.
what about project butter? is it implemented in these ROMs?!
I guess not.
I appreciate the hard work that developers put on their ROMs but i think without project butter these are incremental ICS upgrades IMHO
Agree. I already tried GB and ICS, but I think ICS doesn't good enough than GB. But JB is very nice and I really like it.

Siyah with extweaks, DorimanX kernel also... It's an option in extweaks itself which can raise headset, speaker and mic gain.

YES, of course
Stock Samsung 4.1.1. It fast, smooth and all the hardware works unlike any of the third party ROMS
Can't beat it for stability or speed.
Or if you are really daring, get the Samsung 4.1.2 from KIES
