[Q] Battery drains like hell - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hello,
In the last week I installed many roms and now finally installed a stable and daily use rom i.e Nexus ICS. Now the problem that I get is battery drains like hell, it was fine before when I installed it, is there any specific reason that why it is happening now?

Hello gurjyotanand,
I faced the same problem a number of times. I suppose bad sectors on your SD card. If your device tries to read a file and comes to a bad sector it fails to read, but tries to read again - it goes into a loop causing high battery consumption. Formatting your SD card (not fast format) and setting up your NativeSD ROM again should solve this.
Have fun
Getrid …

Could you post a standby drain value in mA using CurrentWidget? It would help figure out whether your battery drain is high or whether it's just that your standards are high.

Alright, I have installed the widget, what to do now?
hOw to get the mA value?

put the widget on homescreen

Long press on your home screen... select widget. . select current widget.... adjust settings... you will get a small widget showing numbers... you can tap on it to toggle to voltage, battery percent and current drain

Blandroid on N1

I just noticed, blandroid rom on the rom manager menu, has anyone tried it on N1? I'm using cm7 Rc4 and I know you'll all say stick with it, but I'm still curious.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
I noticed it a couple of weeks ago. It says it's a stable 2.3.3 with no bloatware. Sounds very intriguing...in fact so much so that I downloaded it, but have yet to flash it...lol.
Certainly tempting isn't it, is this a case of who goes first lmao, out of interest how big is it? I notice the cm7s are just over 80 mb.

Seems like a plain stock ROM, nice to see to be honest.
Noticed the same thing, but was wondering what all it supports, site doesn't say much. I.E. what kernel it has/supports, TB alert stuff like that.
Hopefully the dev comes and explains what all he's done.
Well, I flashed it, for like an hour then when back to cm7 using the recovery I made.
First thing, market didn't work.
Secondly it didn't have the extra apps cm7 has, which I expected, but I instantly missed theme chooser.
Thirdly it wiped my contacts list.

First. The market issue is probably a wipe issue as I had the same problem with two different MIUI GB ROMs.
Secondly. That would be the lack of bloatware mentioned above. It's like stock android, so not sure why you even flashed it if you wanted bloatware.
Thirdly. It didn't wipe your contact list you didn't sync with google, becaue all of your contacts are backed up there.
You know what, I knew that'd be the replies I got, to be honest I'm curious of any rom that 1might increase battery life, currently using 85% over 10hours!! And of course the dreaded wonk which is seemingly inherent with cm7.
I couldn't force Google to sync with my phone, all my contacts are stored with Google you're right there.
Btw how would I get the market back?

I think it is another keyboard app. When you go to change the keyboard, it lists something in all Asian symbols.
I just deleted it and I have not noticed any difference with how blandroid runs.
The wonk was almost fixed on latest release of cm7. If you don't have the latest version, try it.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
Nearly fixed isn't fixed. The problem is really dragging out and these stock ROMs are showing that its fixed with them. Wonking isn't the only issue at the moment either. There is still problems with the sound levels after docking the phone sometimes where its maximum level is halved etc.
CM is an ace project and I truly respect the guys and their efforts behind it, but CM7 is very buggy, and when it starts to affect the ability to take calls its hard to use it.
Oh! Thx for the reply. I got scared and ran back to cm7

What sort of battery life do you get and is there good support from the Dev?
I could go for no wonk
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
I like!
Went for this until the CM stable kills the wonk; now I may not go back. I haven't used it for long enough to know about stability. I think of it as pure AOSP, but already rooted (and a just a few essential CM goodies).
http://blandroid.org/about
So far, I haven't found anything missing I need.
And if you want a bit more eye candy and customization, just install launcher pro or adw.launcher from the market.
I give it thumbs-up!

How come my phone always has to load when I exit to my dock screen, I'm on official gingerbread update, does this happen to u guys?

Yea it happens to alot of people

There could be a memory leak on the latest GB update That uses too much processing power.
Try to limit your widgets on your homescreens or if you're rooted, try dc13's ROM (Ti-X Speedy) which I am currently using. no "loading" time. Only using 3 homescreens with widgets.
Yeah this really makes me angry. But the widget thing might be correct...

I talked to sprint last night and they said you need 60mb of free memory on the phone
This is a very common and incredably battery killing bug that came along with the new update. Its annoying me that I can't get my phone to last more than 5 hours on standby.
I am having this same issue on my wife's shift. I just bought it for her on Friday. Debating returning it for something else. She's driving me nuts about it. Is this happening to everyone with the update or just some phones? And has sprint/HTC acknowledged it and/or said they are working on a fix?

HTC set Android's memory settings to be *far* too aggressive on the lastest update. Load up the app "AutoKiller Memory Optimizer" and you can see this for yourself. These settings are what tells the OS when to start killing off background apps as free memory decreases.
Even without root, the app allows you to see what the settings are. With root, you can use the app to adjust the settings back to something more normal (personally, I like the settings from CM7). I'll be doing this the next time I try the rooted OTA.

Thanks again

I have been seeing this same problem, and am not rooted either. Since setting the last three numbers to 24, 28, 32 earlier today I have not yet seen Sense restart. Will post a follow-up if things change.

It will still happen if you run some memory-intensive apps (e.g. games). HTC's original settings were kind of ridiculous, IMO.
What were the original htc settings anyway?

Yup I did a fresh install. I have both the ripple lock and the agile lock (sense 3.0) and they both do the same. I found out that they ado work but to I have to use the volume to show unlock (weird) If I hit the power button nothing happens at all.
Been using it for about an hour now...so far so good. No problems and as fast and lite as I remember.
Gonna stick with it as my normal runner if no issues creep up.

To be honest with you I only tried CM7 for about an hour. I just didnt like the look and layout, plus it seems like it comes with so much more things installed (bloat to me). During that hour it did not feel any faster nor smoother than Oxygen. Been using Oxygen since 2.2.1 till now and I have NEVER got a reboot or freeze. Check it out man, you wont be dissapointed.

Hey guys,
I had installed Android about 2 weeks ago on SD card.

Download current widget from Android market and report the battery drain.
Have you tried turning off everything? Turn on Airplane mode, maybe you have something on which is causing the drain.
Have you rebooted the build about 3-5 times.

change your radio or sd roms
your rom may be eat too much ram , or use less widget because more widget more battery drain and use taskkiller

And only bout max 250mb RAM is free after killing all tasks.
I Think its the ram but don't know what to do about it.

250mb RAM is great, but your Current Widget reading should be around 5-8mA (on SD) or 3-5 on NAND. RAM is definitely not your problem, I struggle to get as much as you do after first boot. Most I've ever got is 280 once, after boot.
Backup your apps with Titanium Backup and try a fresh install.
I agree with nigeldg but first format sd card with this tool http://www.mediafire.com/?3241tjhwd8o2vc3.
I will do a clean install and return back...

CM7 performance expectations vs actual results

So I installed CM7 this afternoon, and and was expecting moderate results so far as perfomance goes. I'll need to go through a whole work day to see how battery life is.
But..... I ran quadrant (I know not always exact), and and the results were surprising. Tests are landing between 3400 and 3600. I never saw north of 2200-2400 before.
What's everyone seeing with the xda CM7 latest version?

Turning the transitions in Spare Parts to "fast" makes the phone seem brand new! Everything is blazing fast! 1 thing i'm curious about is how laggy the lockscreen can be, either stock or widgetlocker. It seems i have to pull the slider halfway and leave it to slide back, to make the 2nd slide to unlock smooth. Strange.

I would strongly recommend Go Launcher(free from the market) its very smooth and has MANY transitions animations that are very pleasing to the eye. App drawer seems to have zero lag with animations set to random. And I'm almost sure random uses the most resources. Or try another launcher.

try installing the google apps package through rom manager.
if you dont have rom manager (which you should - i think its standard on cm7)
find rom manager.apk if you can't find it and push it to your sd card install rom manager, then google apps, then a new keyboard thru market.

been using CM7 since original beta, and have never had this problem. i would suggest doing a complete wipe with Fastboot and then reinstalling CM7 to see if the problem persists, if it does then get a logcat and report it to the Atrix Dev Team.
