Root Wizard - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is the Root Wizard found on this site HALFCAB123.COM work? Anyone know if it will work on myTouch 4G 2.3.4? I don't wanna do the other method used to root myTouch 4G because I don't know what I'm doing (that method). But the Root Wizard at the tope is free to download so not sure if it will work or not.

No it won't work..I guarantee it..

it might work with rooting it...but that's not your case.
besides just rooting, you also need S-Off, and currently the downgrade method is the only method we got.

quick questions

Hey guys looking to help my cousin with rooting her mytouch 3g to have wireless tethering. Jsut wanted to see if android-wifi-tether apk works fine with root access?
Tethering is all thats needed, no need for recovery or anything else. So i figure the androot way is the way to go.
Thanks
You have to flash a custom recovery to root so you'll get that either way. Couldn't personally comment on wifi tethering as I haven't used it.

Dumb noob question

I have a vibrant and my buddy has a mytouch 3g and he wants CM. My question is, is there a one click root method like with the vibrant? I looked at the stickys and they only talk about adb, which is cool, cept we aren't near a computer. So yeah, thanks for any info.

This may be the wrong set of subforums, then.
Assuming you mean the Mytouch 4G, not 3G, there are several methods for rooting, not all require adb. One such method is called "Visionary" -- detailed instructions can be found at theunlockr.com.
wow yeah thanks

There is one click root for both 3g and 4g
2.15 radio
2.2miui stock via cwm
Being that i have an older MyTouch and my Dad has one, i will tell you this. IF you/your buddy has downloaded and installed the 2.2 OTA update you MUST downgrade to 1.6 prior to rooting the phone.
http://theunlockr.com/category/howto/android_how_tos/htc-mytouch-1-2-fender-mytouch-how-tos/
(^^^ Give you are using the 1.2 Version of the MyTouch3G)
Once it is downgraded look for and install Universal Nandroot, download install root and do your cyanogen thing.

so, motorolla upgraded my xoom to 4g lte

but they removed the root, can i do the 3g root again or do i need to follow a new procedure
If you choose to root you can only use one method and do not downgrade it will mess you up. Do not try to use any other kernel either. This is the only way to root. If you have an issue after root just ask. Don't need anyone else messing up their 4g upgrade. We have all been trying to get motor to put up the new bootloader for the upgraded xoom. This is how I rooted mine and my wife's.

Rooted two mytouches with gfree never had a problem bro. Try considering gfree as an option if it all fails. There is even a video about it on YouTube.

If you still on 2.2.1 then you can easily root with visionary and root.sh.
Unless he has MG2DE eMMC, in which case he'll need gfree.
OP, instead of "hearing" things, read the stickies. And then use gfree.
Well If I go to the bootloader screen it reads
Gracier pvt ship s-on
Hboot-0.86.000
Microp-0429
Radio-26.03.02.26_m
Emmc-boot

Since you don't have engineering bootloader, whatever you read there is irrelevant.
I already wrote what you should do.
So can I just flash the engineering bootloader . And then just root with root.sh ?

I thought it was as obvious as I could make it.
To the [OP] Since you have that chip you have to root using ./gfree. There is no other way to do it. If you try to use the root.sh method you'll end up getting ticked, posting a new thread about how root.sh doesn't work, then we'll remind you of this post. Where @Jack_R1 told you to use ./gfree. Then you'll get all mad because we are being rude, and you'll want to smack us.
So instead of doing that read my "noobie" thread, in my signature, then use the ./gfree and give us a bottle of beer since we helped you.
I have 2 MT4Gs, both rooted and flashed.
Mine wasn't updated and had the SEM04G chip. Easy to root using methods with visionary.
My wife's was 2.3.4 updated with M4G2DE chip. Downgrade was easy enough. Rooting was a pain in the neck.
I went through every option until I got to the True S=Off tutorial using gfree. Once I went through that process, I was permarooted, and then changed to eng bootloader. It can be done without bricking...it's just that much harder to do.

gfree is not the only way to permaroot the MT4G, but it's a good way to do it. I was able to get permarooted with the root.sh method with my phone. Had to try a couple of methods a couple of times each before I got to the gfree method, which finally worked for my wife's phone.

Good deal. Welcome to the world of android modding.
Leave the thread as is. Others can use it as reference.

HTC phones are always harder to root than others, since they require S-Off and all that stuff. but when the hard part is complete, the rest is very simple and easy to understand.
I now know that. Lol. But I also have the hd7 and that's even harder to dev unlock "root" . But now I'm only buying htc phones. I like the UI that they have.. and they get more support from devs .. its been almost a year and the sidekick is till stuck with froyo .. they are saying that tmobile is not going to release a gb update ..

Need Assitance!

Hello, I've had a MyTouch 4g for t-mobile for some time now but recently switched to a newer phone. But, when i had the phone it was rooted. So i used a PD15IMG.zip with which it was 2.2.1(I believe, i know it was previous one to gingerbread), to unroot the phone. But i still enjoy using my Mytouch 4g, most of the apps i enjoy using require 2.3.1 Gingerbread. So, i did a little a research and found out the mytouch 4g can get gingerbread. So, im curious to know if theres anyway to repeat the same thing, i did to unroot the phone to get gingerbread. Which is to download the PD15IMG.zip for gingerbread and install into the phone. (Without, having to root it again). Also, is there anyone who can post the link knows where i can get the download link to gingerbread(PD15IMG.zip) for a mytouch 4g. I Live in U.S and MyTouch is for T-Mobile (Dunno if it Matters)
