Whenever I open my folio style case and slide to unlock I get a crackly noise from the speaker. If I then lock and unlock my device no sound. If I leave it a while then unlock it I get the crackle again.
Any suggestions or fixes?
Wondering if magnet on my case could be doing something?
Do kernels effect audio in any way?

I've had the crackling sound as well and it definitely isn't the unlock sound since I have that turned off, I've had it happen on a few different kernels.
I remember having this issue on Trinity, Moved to Franco Kernel and i havent heard it since.
What could be causing it then? If it is the kernel?
Sent from my XT910 using xda app-developers app
i get that crackle too about 70% of the time when I wake up my N7. I have the unlock sound disabled. The crackle appears at the first sound the N7 makes (for me its after I unlock it and start typing in an app since I have the typrewriter/keypress sound active).

Just go franco.Kernel. His app is free now so there are no more excuses.

There never were any excuses... you can flash via fast boot or flash GUI. As well as use a root explorer to tweak the sysfs.

I'm on Franco now.
If I flash with his tool should I then boot into recovery and clear caches and reboot?
So I then get android updating?

Is anything wrong.... if not then no.. wiping caches does nothing honestly. It rebuilds anyways.

Thanks for help

Also on the speaker. I tried diff apps but to no avail. Is there a config file that can be added or edited to boost volume? I really think the volume is set lower than it should be. Anyone?

App called volume+ search it on the Olay store.

I tried every app there is as I said in the post. It don't work for me. The apps really do nothing.

I use sound booster but you have to keep fiddling to get a percentage that works.
Keep an eye on the X louder mod and hope he brings out a 4.2 version soon
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Cool but I hate 4.2 because of the bugs. Anyway, there must be config files to edit the volume. These apps don't seem to do Nada.

I do not want to root at this time for various reasons. Stupid of me for even posting this seeing you would have to have su in order to edit config files or run scripts. I noticed volume+ on the play store states that the app will most likely not work unless you're rooted. Bummer.
I just flashed back and do not want lose everything nor do I want to back everything up. Wish they would just provide a way to boost volume or would have tested the volume on the device! It's too low!

Depends on where you buy it, it maybe be a ear safety regulation, I know in some countries volume must not exceed certain value. For example, if you get an iPod in US or France, then the US one is going to be way louder.
I don't know whether this is the case with N7, or just a design flaw.
Mine used to do the same until I installed the apps called ear piece and speaker boost and use them together also go into there settings and adjust them to a 100% GOD BLESS YOU GUYS

Those two apps do work but I am picky. Wish I could have the boost and not lose the bass. They only seem to boost midrange a bit and then distort. If I use Google music eq it cuts the apps out and vice versa. I am still experimenting. Thanks for all the help. God bless you as well.

Well I discovered the problem. I am a dimwit! It was partially my over the ear headphones! I tried some ear buds with the equalizer app and it is amazing! Lol...forgive.....

By the way. The eq in Google music works just fine. No need for me to even use an app.

Big headphones require more power
And usually those are oriented more towards clean studio sound (unless you're using Beats, which is just bass and some more bass and nothing else)
Try connecting N7 to big headphones trough an amplifier, I'm sure you'll notice the difference.
I'm glad you figured it out.
Even when my phone is muted this happens. Its a faint click or pop noise I'll sometimes hear coming from my phone when I click on something. This is with everything muted, its not the normal haptic feedback or anything like that. Anyone else have this issue??

From where does the sound originate? The speaker? The screen? The edge?
It sounds like your phone has a loose part. Clamp it firmly on the face and back, the make sure the torx screws on the bottom and appropriately tightened. Do not overtighten, for you risk cracking your phone from the stress that might occur from doing so.
Woah haha, I just created a thread about this

I have it too. Comes from the speaker. Mine happens about 70 percent of the time when clicking on something on screen. Interestingly, it doesn't happen when using the keyboard.
It must be something in software. Currently running the latest PA3 rom.

Touch the ok button.
It's not possible to turn that off on the stock ROM. There are some custom ROMs having that feature though.
Settings>Sound>Safe Headset Volume.
Xposed Framework + ModaCo toolkit lets you turn that off.

Hello guys, I just recognized this weird Noise today after clean install of vanir nightly 23/9 they appear after pressing any button, but I can only hear them when i have my headphones plugged in... When the music plays, I dont hear them anymore. They appear after pressing anywhere on the screen and disappear after ca. 2 seconds...
Anyone with this Problem too? Could this be nightly related? Thanks for your help

Don't panic. Nightlies are supposed to have bugs. Try a more stable version instead.
Nightly 25/9 Problem is still there, it seems to be "cracking" even when music is on, but the music is louder :-\ meaning it cracks when the track is changing while playing music...

Hello!
Try to switch off "clicking sound".
mobal,
Can't figure out why when I answer a call the phone defaults to speaker phone on answer regardless if the toggle is lit or not. This started shortly after updating to take official KitKat update, never been rooted our anything and can't figure out why. Anyone have this problem or a fix? Thanks in advance.

No it is the speaker phone cause if I toggle hit the toggle to turn the speaker phone on it will continue as the speaker phone then if I toggle it off it will go to the ear speaker.

It ended up being GPS Status that was causing the issue, after clear cache, data and uninstall everything was fine.
