Should i buy now or wait for 7105 - Galaxy Note II General

I really want to get my hands on the note 2 but my mind tells me to wait for the US lte version but im dying to have one as soon as possibe. Will you wait for the lte or will you just buy the international 3g version only?

Get it if you don't mind slow ass data on a $700 device.

True , i would rather wait as it will be annouced on the 24th here in the US . International user would cry in envy not having an lte and for what i know the UK will be introducing the lte band by the end of october which makes the international 3g version seems obsolete in lessthan 2mos.

LTE in the UK will initially only be available in 10 cities, and on ONE network. It'll be at least a year before other networks get theirs online as they spectrum sale isn't due to happen until spring 2013. Then it'll take a year or more to roll out to anywhere other than the major cities, then even more time for the contract prices to become reasonable.
By the time LTE becomes viable here, everyone's 2 year contracts on their N2's will be long finished.

For me 3G is enough, and it is absolutely not slow, 5-6 mbps is more than enough on a smartphone . Keep in mind the LTE consumes alot from the battery.

I'm on 3G HSPA+, and achieve speeds of 10mbits down.
I'm happy as I've never had anything faster than 5mbits on iPhone 4. I'm in UK, so we're still deprived of 4G.
For those lot in the States, and if you're used to 4G speeds, I would say wait til your carrier offers it.

I guess it depends on your requirements, for me, I am on wifi 90% of the time, so it doesn't particulary interest me. Although of course it would be nice to have.

dont buy the international version, it's only GSM. Get the CDMA/LTE/GSM version when it comes out on Sprint or Verizon, and it's an international phone with support for even more frequencies.

FYI, Singapore will be selling international N7105 by end of OCT too. LTE version of cos.

At&t may get SG2 first??? (boo)

Now this all just speculation but that just sucks if its true for us vibrant users! I really want a sg2 and i hope were not last of the 4 carriers to get it.
Att and samsung are having a special invite event

ur opinions?
Its probably the samsung infuse. With a 4.5 inch super amoled plus and 1.2 ghz humming bird processor. Its not a dual core, and still has froyo, so nothing to worry about.

i predict att will announce it's release first, then tmob will undercut their release date by like a week like they did with the first sgs.
that would be so cool if thaT happened! then at least we would have a release date
Actually, I would be happy if the Sg2 was quad band 3g so that I could run ATT or T-mobile 3g. That would make it a better seller.
i just hope tmo doesnt screw the sg2 up like the did the vibrant.
If Tmobile does screw it up, the international version is always available...
technically, at&t customers can already just use the international version of the SGS2 as it is now. so yeah, at&t pretty much has it as is (damn tmo's AWS bands!).

Yeah, but T-Mo's AWS bands make our 3G about 7x faster then AT&T. xD
Hell, it's even faster then Sprint's 4G WiMax, and it comes close to Verizon's 4G LTE network (in the few markets where it hits 8-10mbps, and not 15-17 like in others).

After checking with Three today while ordering new phone, they confirmed that the phone is 4g enabled and will work when the network is ready. At the moment the network has been upgraded to HSPDA+ and the phone can make use of that...
Hope this is all true and not a sales ploy...

Trouble is, what frequencies will be enabled? 800, 1800 etc, etc? Will we be forced to have multiple versions of the phone which are carrier dependent like in the States?
It makes no difference to me as in the uk 4G will only be available in limited areas for a year or two and by then itll be time for the note 3. 4G would be of no use to me at all where I live in the uk.

Not sure, would like to know so I can check on Thursday...
TBH, even if it doesn't have 4g I don't think i'll be too bothered as I've never thought download speeds were an issue... HD vids on youtube always downloaded without issue for example...

I got the same reply when talking online to Three CS earlier tonight.
Has anyone got their's from 3 yet?
I think I might go for it tomorrow, for the £34 one.
Do 3 let you upgrade to the One Plan mid contract though, in case I decide I want tethering? lol
That would be amazing if it was 4G, or maybe if I can get a seller to tell me it does.
The Galaxy Note II (N7100) definitely does NOT handle 4G. The good news is that it does handle HSDPA+ which is in "real world" tests gives 4G a good run for its money without the price premium. EE are expected to charge around £15 a month on top of their existing 3G tariffs per month for their 4G with data caps.
Late last night, Ofcom, EE, Vodafone and O2 agreed a faster rollout of 4G in the UK with EE4G starting in the next few weeks in some cities. Vodafone and O2 will bid for new frequencies early next year and hope to be up and running by Spring 2013. EE will therefore have a lead of around 20 weeks but are expected to insist on a minimum term contract of 12 months.
I am staying with HSDPA on 3 and will see what competition does to prices next year and what real world performance and coverage is like. Others can risk their money being Guinea Pigs!
EE will be offering the 4G version of the Note II (N7105) for customers prepared to pay for an extended contract. It will be available from EE from October 15th.
I have just ordered the N7100!

Whilst this is possible it is specifically NOT permitted under their terms and conditions.
Three only permit tethering on their mobile data packages intended for laptops and myfi devices. If you try to use an "all you can eat" phone sim in a myfi device from Three, it does not work. Despite this, it is possible to tether a phone even though it is not officially allowed.
Needless to say, the data SIM route is more expensive than the "all you can eat" packages intended for unfettered phones.

Have to agree with this.
Where I live and work these days, I won't see 4G LTE for at least a couple of years, so the lack of LTE in the Note II makes no difference to me.
Coupled with the fact that I'd rather have truly unlimited 3G from Three, as opposed to what is likely to be a tiered data plan on 4G from EE, LTE just isn't a required feature for me at present. Given the current data plans from Orange and TMo, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the data limits for EE's LTE were quite low and expensive - even a 5GB data plan won't last long at LTE speeds if you're really going to use LTE as it is intended.
Also, EE's LTE at 1800MHz isn't going to have great indoor penetration when compared to the LTE at 800MHz that we will see once the spectrum is auctioned off next year, so I'd rather wait for something better.
Ordered my Note II from Three yesterday, as my contract was coming to an end. I fully expect to replace it this time next year, despite the fact I will have to pay full price as I'll only be a year into the contract, so it's not as if I will be 'stuck' for two years anyway!
Regards,
Dave

Though I'm with T-Mobile (not AT&T) I am really looking forward to T-Mobile's release of the Note 2. I'd initially thought I would be using my Note 2 as a WiFi device only to replace my 10.1" tablet but I'm now finding the Note 2 to be an excellent platform for a phone as well. As long as T-Mobile includes WiFi calling and their version is stable I'll be selling my HTC Sensation 4G and upgrading to their version of the Note 2. My boy wants to replace his iPad2 with a WiFi only Note 2. I get the T-Mobile Note 2, my boy trades me his iPad2 for my unlocked international Note2, and I sell the iPad2 and my HTC phone to absorb some of the cost. I'm really looking forward to moving everything over to the Note2 (phone', data, tablet functions ). November perhaps?
I couldn't wait for the AT&T one... Went ahead and bit the bullet and purchased from UK. Hoping the HSPA+ is kinder to battery life to help make up for the lack of LTE. So far HSPA+ has been fine for me and I am lovin the Note II!!!
I'm waiting on the AT&T version also. Anyone want to guess what it would cost to buy it out right from AT&T(Amazon) with no contract? I may wait a month to see if it drops a few bucks.
Those of you who still have unlimited data through AT&T. Is it correct that on LTE after 5gigs they throttle you but on 3G they throttle you after 3gigs.
How does the throttling of LTE work? Will they throttle you down from LTE to 3G or can you turn off LTE and then you get to burn through 3gigs 3G data too for a total of 8GB or is it when they throttle you you get throttled all the way down to EDGE like speeds?
649$,,IF SO BETTER OFF TO GET INTERNATIONAL,sorry for caps,I'll just wait it out and see any differences.
Why would it be better to get the international version if the AT&T is $649? Is it cheaper or something. I'm in the states and don't travel over seas, although I don't live in a LTE city I often visit one that does. Also I think if order from Amazon I can take advantage of the sales tax loop hole and not pay that or shipping.
AT&T is also my carrier
I agree with Daps I will wait for the at&t version. Unless there some big downfall like the at&t s3 there's no reason to get the international! But really what is the International version now? It seems like there are so many variations of the Note 2 I'm not really sure anymore! Maybe the us version will be the most sought after version and get exported to the rest of the world and have the most development support! ...... Okay well a guy can hope can't he...... Lol

Also looking for AT&T variant
I have GNote International now, on AT&T and want LTE GNote2.
I expect it w/b offered at $299 wt 2 year contract BUT do you think Amazon will ever have AT&T version at off contract pricing?
And if so, how long might it take for Amazon to get it after it is officially available from AT&T?

Specs on Samsung website state that HSPA+/LTE phones get about 7-15% less battery than 3G/LTE Note 2's. I wonder if that is because HSPA+ and it's variants drain more battery because it is faster, or the 3G/LTE antenna needs less power since 3G and LTE are both Qualcomm's technology probably needing one less antenna.

I usually purchase off contract with att. On Amazon the prices can be a bit higher initially for off contract. I usually get it from att or best buy as best buy is usually higher but will match the price. I just find it easier to switch it out locally in the first 30 days if there is an issue. I suspect 650 on att and slightly higher on amazon initially.
You are correct on the limits. I have not been throttled on my unlimited lte plan because I use wifi often. I have not used over 2.5 GB. I believe they used to throttle you to edge but now it is to 3g until the next monthly cycle starts over.

Thanks. If it's $650 on AT&T I'll just buy it there or go to BestBuy and get them to price match as I got a buddy who works there. You're right about the switching out. I have a cousin who is a AT&T manager but not on the wireless side. I wonder if she get's discounts on phones. I'd send her the money to get me one if the discount was large enough.
Same boat as you. I've never been throttled because I'm on Wifi most of the time also. So you're saying if I'm on LTE and use my 5GB, they'll throttle me to 3G? I'd never use that much on my phone but it's nice to have.
AT&T does need to speed up their LTE roll out. Verizon already has LTE here. Saw it on a coworkers iPhone5

Nevertheless this is a very impressive speed and raises the question who wants for 4G LTE that few tests have shown reaches over 20 MB???

4G at the moment in the UK is nothing more then a empty bottle. No UK phone is capable of having the 4G. All UK phones and tablets run on 3G. EE will be releasing lte phones in the new year.
The main reason EE have released 4G early is to claw in extra contracts. The biggest problem EE have is there coverage. The coverage is weak and inconsistent for 3G let alone the 4G.
Anyone who is serious about 4G should wait until at least a year.

I'm not joking no UK phone currently runs 4G. Anyone who tells you differently they just don't know how 4G works. If you've got a GS3 or iPhone 5 in the last 6 months on contract with EE they will let you upgrade to the lte verson for £90.00 when they release them next year.
4G coverage will be poor for at least a year if not more for most places. City's and very large towns will have coverage in the next year but the coverage will be dependant on operator.

iPhone 5 is LTE. Works on EE 4G
As do the other LTE phones available in the UK now.

4G here in Australia reaches 45-50mbps down, now that's real 4g . When I am tethering it is faster then my home WiFi it's crazy !
I have heard some companies around the world b.s. and are really only on fast 3g because speeds don't even reach 20mbps on their so called 4g

Beware the N7100/N7105 UK Con

I hit the high street today in search of an N7105 to go on three's network with the hope of being 4G ready, this is what I found
1) I went into a 3 store and got to play with a real "3" note 2, this was an N7100 despite "3's" customer service promising me that it was 4G ready for sure, it turns out they are currently only stocking the N7100 what is really bad is that 3 are pushing the fact that they are upgrading their network to DC-HSDPA (theoretical 42 Mbps real world 15 mbps) but regarding Samsungs the only DC-HSDPA phone available are the Galaxy S3 LTE and the Note 2 LTE, so the regular note 2 will not be able to make the best of "3s" newly enhanced network.
2) I went into phones 4U as independent phone shops buy their own phones and so in theory will be able to sell you an N7105 on any network you want. This was even worse! where as T-mobile/Orange customers are getting the N7105 direct from their provider if they either start up new contracts or upgrade, if you sign up to a new contract or upgrade via phones 4U they are dishing out the N7100, they don't have any N7105's in stock and when they get them they will be exclusively dishing them out to people signing up to new contracts on EE.
If I was with T-Mobile/Orange and got an N7100 through phones 4U when I was meant to get an N7105 I would be very unimpressed.
this is no news at all. the LTE phones available in UK now are designed to work with EE network 4G frequencies. your taking a big gamble buying one and hoping it will work with a specific network next year. and as s general advice dont believe what the sales representative will tell you. do your research before going into the shop.

Sorry to say but, you're wrong.
It's well known what frequencies will be used and the n7105 will work on all of them, plus as the op said it has dc-h+ which means you can get unlimited near 4g speeds with all you can eat data from Three for as little as £12.90 pcm.
It's £509 for the phone.
£12 to unlock
Clearly the best option for the money conscious data hog.
And OP you might not be able to get an n7105 from anyone other than EE for sometime, or they might appear tomorrow. It has about the same likelihood of the 32gb version turning up.
(Actually Samsung might have said the 32 isn't coming? I'm not sure on that one?)

Where can you buy a N7105 for £509?
pointless for me to have LTE. Don't live anywhere near a 4G area, the prices are a complete ripoff & by the time it arrives my contract will be up then and i will getting the note 3
Personally, I wouldn't bother with 4G in the UK. Where I live, which is a heavy population (Milton Keynes,) 4G is expected to hit in 2 years; which, by then i'll probably have the note 4

Its not so much the 4g I'm bothered about... its more the resale value of a 3g phone in 2 years when all the networks are running 4g as standard ...
That and possibly the ability to use threes hspda+42 add an alternative to 4g

OP, I have the GT-N7100 on Three and last weekend Three upgraded their network near me. My speeds went up from the usual 3Mbps/4Mbps to between 15Mbps/16Mbps which is "near" "real" 4G speeds without the extra OTT EE cost.
So, in fact the regular note 2 will be able to make the best of "3s" newly enhanced network.
I'm more than happy with that Free from Three.

Wow, is that really HSPA+21?
Sent from my GT-N7105 using Tapatalk 2
My area which is in Central London also provides speeds of up to 15mb/s.
And that's 7100. HSPA+ 21.
Just shows that 3 are very competitive, and they give free data.

I get HSDPA ("H" on signal bar) Screenshot
And now I also now get HSPAP (H+ on signal bar) Screenshot
Speedtest taken a few mins ago HERE
Needless to say, I am very happy now.
Interesting comments,
I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S2, I regularly get 8 ish Mbps on three's network and once got a real 15 Mbps in liverpool, So im hoping that they are being conservative on their DC-HSDPA speed advertisements, but even double what I get now would be excellent.

I don't think it is a gamble, as i'm confident that 3 will be sharing T-mobiles 4G network ( they already share their 3G network) see here for proof on that.
http://www.mbnl.co.uk/about.php
and this from the BBC
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-19786041
the important bit being
The UK's fourth biggest network - Three - is set to take over part of EE's 4G spectrum, but is not due to do so until September 2013.

Further, because of the network sharing it seems likely that EE are also about to get DC-HSDPA, which means they are doing right by their customers handing out N7105's even to customers that are only on 3G tariffs (unless you get your phone from phones 4U, in which case you are being parmed off with an N7100)
Reports say you can get the n7105 from ee for 459. Go get it and be happy. Unless you like custom roms and want them NOW.

I got an N1705 as an upgrade from T-Mobile. Unfortunately there's not going to be any 4G round my way for a while.

Go direct to EE they have it for £499
N7105 in the UK
You're all dreaming......There is no where in any of the Uk stores (t mobile, orange, EE, phones 4 U etc) where you can buy the N7105 for £499 or £450 or any of the prices quoted here.....period! You cannot get it on Pay as you go, and the only way to get it sim free through the retailers is to pay top whack at £999 at a Samsung store or go for a pay monthly contract with EE for a min. of 12 months. Online the best bet in the UK with all the taxes paid etc. is at prepaymania.co.uk at £563 or chance it on eBay and they're currently fetching about £510 but you'll need to buy an unlock code on top of this. So......as of today in the UK that's the best you'll get for the LTE Note II
Sorry haven't read whole post so apologies if this is a repeat.
The tmobile people said it's exclusive to EE until next summer. So other providers will have to latch off EE if they want it. This will mean increased premiums or lower speeds. In terms of phones I'm with tmob and I got the 7105 and upgrade to 4G thingy was £5 extra pm (didn't go for it as I don't need the speeds).

I bought mine from an Orange shop for 509 sometime ago. I read two reports they'll let yo walk away with it for 459. Both those prices include a mandatory £10 top up.
I read a report of it this device being unlocked by a third party for £12.
Im not dreaming.
