Galaxy Tab 7.7

Did you guys see the hands on video yet? 720p SAMOLED+ screen, exynos internal and an external sd slot in a thinner package
I'm not sure if it's the exynos internal or the 3.2 but the rotation and home screen transition looked extremely smooth

Eh, the 7" is a great size for traveling.

i think ill sell my 10" when this comes out, it'll be nice to get off the tegra 2 and get something a little more portable

I'm more interested in the Samsung Galaxy Note for my next phone. I thought anything bigger than 4.5" would be too bit for a phone, but after watching the videos, it seems fine. I guess the thinness and tiny bezel help a lot. Sadly we probably won't see it on US carriers for 6 months.

What's the point of getting something that will be obsolete a couple of months later. Asus has plans to release a Kal-El tablet this year even.
Besides, I'm getting the Galaxy SII phone with a 4.5" display. 7.7" would be too small of a jump from it.

i just wish the 10.1 would have come with exynos.

I had a Euro Galaxy Tab 7" and while it was very portable. I kept wishing it was bigger when playing games. Especially, when play Order & Chaos. The new 7.7 is tempting but I learned my lesson once already. If I were to switch, the 8.9 would probably be the one for me.
BTW, love the Samsung Note. I wonder which SoC its using? Anyone have the complete specs for it?

It's running the same as the 7.7, we know that haha.

Says who? Is it comfortable reading a book on a 3.5-4" screen smartphone? Surfing the full-mode web? Didn't think so.
7" is most likely the sweet spot for portable tablets, and the reason why all e-readers are around that size. The perfect tablet size for me would be 8-9" as well.

That's bull. My OG Tab is still used every day (though it gets retired the minute I can get my hands on that 7.7), along with my old 4" SGS and my current 4.3" SGS2, and I have a Tab 10.1
Different tools for different jobs.

This looks fantastic! Got the 10.1 myself and while it's awesome, this HD resolution, MircroSD slot, Dual Core etc make it a very appealing device. Form factor is lovely as well and seems an ideal size for traveling. Will see what else pops up at IFA and will await Kal El devices as well.

No one would ever have a device with this mentality. One has to have gadget nirvana: make your decision based on what's available at that time, then relax and don't worry if it's not the absolute latest thing. Will it still do what you want? Yep! Will it not have that lastest shiny thing that marketing departments want you to think you need in order to not want to hurl yourself off a bridge in envy of others? Maybe not, but who gives a crap.
Kal-el devices will be overshadowed by the next gen processor or integrated GPU or whatever very soon after they are on the market. I'm not saying it's a bad idea to wait a bit for something you think will be better and has a definite launch date. But, to be constantly on edge that whatever device you get will be "obsolete" soon after purchase is kind of a slavish mentality.
I'm reminded of a coworker I had who was putting off buying a digital camera because they kept getting better every six months. So, in 2009 she was still using a dinky 110 film camera.
Anyway, not to rant. But, if we need (need may be too strong a word for tablets) a device then playing the waiting game is as much as a con as it is a pro.

In my opinion a slightly faster processor in a completely different tablet will not make this tablet obsolete. What makes this tablet so great is so much more than the processor, it's the portable size, 7.89mm thinness, 335g weight, and 7.7 inch Super AMOLED Plus at 1280 x 800 is unheard of. A year ago, even six months ago this screen technology would have been nearly impossible to manufacture/incredibly expensive. Sony used to sell a 7 inch qHD OLED monitor that cost $2,500. Needless to say the display in the 7.7 is a breakthrough to say the least for the future of OLED on larger screens.

I say reward yourself now. When Tegra 3 or better comes out, you upgrade to the newer one & either resell or hand me down gift to someone.

I'm guessing their going with Qualcomm because atm, their chip is the only one that supports LTE (at least in the US). Samsung might be working on an Exynos chip that can handle LTE but that hasn't been announced yet.

The Note is sporting a 1.4Ghz Exynos processor. Sexy beast w/ the Super Amoled HD screen! 5.3in. Screen, gorgeous!

I did read somewhere Note comes with Exynos chip clocked at 1.4 ghz and surely has LTE

Hmm, i don't feel like hitting the like button. My GS2 running at [email protected] with the official Samsung extended battery feels no envy at all
The soc is still the same afaik, this sounds like a cheap screen size buff to me. Anyway i'm pretty sure this will sell well in the US: it seems like people don't mind carrying a desktop pc in their pockets there

My galaxy s2 probably still in my pocket.
If Galaxy Note has stereo mic with noise reduction and can be installed voodoo control and it's super amoled hd plus i can sell my gs2 and buy it.
But i don't think it has all of them.. maybe none.

As you undoubtedly know, samsung has said Note will not be released in the US

Sgs2 screen is big enough and I cant see development being anywhere near as big for the others. Android runs smooth as butter with the sgs2 anyways. Cant see any reason in the near future for an upgrade

How about having a Wolfson audio chip inside Galaxy Note !!! with 5.3 inch screen it looks gorgeous. Well my biggest question is SUPER AMOLED PLUS vs SUPER AMOLED HD. I am sure letters are more readable with 285 ppi on the HD screen but what about the colors are they as bright as PLUS on HD screen. I hope so.
With a Wolfson audio chip and Super saturated HD screen i would go for the Galaxy Note. I love big screen's.

Be aware that there'se an official 2000mah battery for the GS2: it's doesn't even add bulk, it just makes the phone all thick as it already is at its bottom. I got it today and it rocks. Too bad the phone doesn't fit anymore in the case now...

GSG2 LTE sounds good. I can't wait til its released. I hoping it works on ATT. Didn't get SGS2 but kind of glad now. We have LTE launched in Houston but i don't know how good it is. Anyways still going to try it out once released.

Im looking forward to NOTE, if i like it (and its size) when i take it in my hands, its very likely that ill give my SGS2 to my girl and take NOTE for me

dont forget the note has a higher resoloution and bigger screen to power and its also overclocked to 1.4ghz with probably quite high voltages
i would say you may get equal battery life out of the sgs2 with 2000mah battery and overclocking and undervolting
of course that only matters if you want the note for the battery i can see the appeal of the device it would make so many things even better like media viewing , web browsing , sat nav etc but at the same time it may be just to big for my pockets i would have to hold it before making that judgement though saying that i am happy with my sgs2 and dont see the point in upgrading , its just a sideways step there will be much better coming real soon and they will be forwards steps like quad core etc
i dont think with that screen the battery will be much different to the 2000mah genuine one that you can buy for the sgs2 this device will rock for people who want an even bigger sgs2 though good too see samsung covering all aspects of the market

Now that the Note is coming to AT$T in a couple weeks, I've been doing some pretty serious window shopping. But, there's also the desire in the back of my head for the ever illusive S3. From those that have had the opportunity to use the Note, would you recommend the upgraded Note being released on the 19th or hold out S3 (with it's specs still in the rumor mill)?
My biggest draw to the Note is the fact that you can easily take notes right on it which is a plus for the office. One of my only worries is portability. Summers coming soon and the thought of carrying around a paperback novel (granted its only 40 pages thick) makes me nervous.
Please help sell me one way or another.

Ok first of all let me tell you that the phone is not an issue carrying around unless you are a fashion concious person. The phone will fit into major pockets except skinny jeans or any tight fitting clothing but if you carry a bag out then it won't be an issue. Any ways I think you should wait to buy the phone unless your in need of a new one quick. If not wait till the s3 comes out and see if you like it then great get that or else get the note and since you waited the note probably dropped in price
As for my opinions on the note, first I think the specs are fabulous, its pretty good enough for a phone in the year 2012 and I think it's gonna rock the boat when ics comes out. Before I bought the phone I did a specs comparison to the iPad 2 ( you know since this phone is targeted as a tablet phone and best tablet is iPad in my opinion) and the note turns out is more superior to the iPad 2 and at that moment I decided the note is my phone. Overall its a more than decent phone only thing is you might need to buy a memory card if your thinking like videos and music and games, I just bought a 16 gig card off Amazon for like I think less than 20 bucks (its original) and while I couldn't transfer my apps to the sd card I did move all my videos photos and music to the sd card freeing a few gigs.
Any ways it comes down to the owner's needs, I wanted a tablet and phone and then I saw someone showing of his phone at the subway taking pictures and stuff then I asked him and found out about the note, let me say this is not a replacement of a tablet, its an alternative so there is a difference
With that I appologise for the long post and wish you have the most awesomest time and love your phone which ever one you get

The at&t Galaxy Note isnt a Galaxy Note. Its just a big skyrocket spec wise. Expect heavy choppiness and lag due to the weak snapdragon SoC.
I got my Intl Note about 3 months ago back when there was no news of the S3. I recommend waiting for the S3.
The S3 is most likely gonna feature the new 1.5ghz Exynos or a quad core Exynos.
Once the quad core phones come out you're gonna regret buying a dual core phone.

I don't get this obsession with people wanting faster and faster processor, I mean I remeber a time when I was about 10 years old people would buy phones based on their looks or price and now every one just wants specs even if the phones are ugly. I'm not implying the phones now a days are ugly but I'm just saying what's up with wanting a faster processor I mean its just 0.1 more than the note how much faster is it gonna be. I think the current speed on the note is fabulous and I think this phone is perfect if I had one complain it would be the lack of space and the keyboard SUCKS. Other than that its an awesome phone

The shift from single-core to dual-core is probably much larger than from dual-core to quad-core. This is because Android in general isn't even properly optimized for dual-core let alone quad-core. You'd probably need to wait for "Jellybean" again to get proper optimized changes that takes advantage of a quad-core SoC. What happens then? You're paying a premium price for the first "quad-core" phone that isn't even properly utilized until the next ANdroid update comes.
Never buy into bleeding tech, always get it around the 50 ~ 70% cycle mark. That's where you get the best longevity, utility, and price to performance ratio. =)

If you really like the idea of note taking, there's really no reason not to get a note.. Make a prototype out of cardboard if you want to check portability. It's bout twice a thick as cardboard.
Big screen, stylus - that's what you want. What would you trade that for, in the s3?

Something you cannot see, 2 additional cpu-cores.
I'm going to guess that the S3 is going to have a 4.65" display as well or at most 4.7". They're not going to cannibalize the Note for no apparent reason. On that grounds alone if screen size matters, it's pointless to wait for the S3. If anything, wait for the Note 2 in October.

As i think people and correct me if i am wrong, but the quadcores will not be quadcores but 2x dualcores on different speeds so you will have max battery from it with a improved speed. Lets say 2x500 and 2x1500(2000) the 2 high end cores will fire if they needed.

All of the things a smart phone is used for is improved by a larger screen except portability, so the largest screen that is comfortably mobile is best. The Note is narrow enough to fit almost any pocket but is uncomfortable in trousers/jeans pockets and an alternative such as a deep shirt pocket or jacket pockets is needed. If you can live with that then get the Note for it will give you the best experience.

I think it's silly to suggest waiting nine months for the purpose of buying something with longevity. That's nearly half of a phone's lifecycle assuming you get a new phone every two years. This phone isn't even out in the US yet!
My advice: go buy your Note and enjoy it. There's no sense in waiting for a product that hasn't been announced, and something better is always around the corner. The best we can do is try to get something that's future-proof and enjoy it, and since the Note is one of the highest-end phones available today and Samsung has announced ICS for the it by the end of Q1, I think it's a smart choice.

Quick question, will the unlocked version of the gnote work on att's lte network?

I787. Sorry to burst some bubbles, but a 1.5 dual core snapdragon is not going to be noticeably inferior to the exynos. Plus, the snapdragons are compatible with the LTE network unlike the exynos chipset which gives the major advantage to the I787 in network speed.

If you watch/use flash content you absolutely need the power. My Note SMOKES my Transformer tablet with flash. The Note is silky smooth with no freezing while flash on the Transformer is a jerky freezing mess.
No way would I give up the Notes Exynos processor. It flies.

I really urge you to reconsider. You're basically buying a big Skyrocket if you get that. Even if the speed difference is negligible to you, dev support will be way lower for a Snapdragon chip.

Go read reviews from people who traded their OG SGSII's for Skyrockets.
I personally went to go check out the skyrocket on release day and there was so much lag compared to the OG SGSII model.
But, the snapdragon barely keeps the skyrocket running, the note is a lot bigger, so it requires more processor power, something that the snapdragon can't give

I agree partially with this statement. I have both the Note and Skyrocket now and had the SGS2 as well.
In terms of day to day speed SGS2 > Skyrocket > Note
The Note isn't slow, but imagine the difference in pixels it's pushing. I can't imagine the ATT Note on that snapdragon (which in all reality is not that bad, just not an exynos)

I actually was lucky enough to be in the right spot at he right time today and place the AT&T Note in my hands. Was at my local company store today dropping off a freshly rooted and cleaned SGS2 to an aquatintance there and joking asked if he has a store unit yet. To my surprise he said "Yup" and walked over to a corporate guy who was there on business who happened to be carrying one.
Contrary to speculations...even in it's stock and bloated form, it was VERY responsive. I noticed next to no lag and can only imagine what the thing can do when overclocked. Every web page I went to, opened pretty much at desktop speeds and jumping from app to app was fluid and seemless.
Now am I gonna be listening to Pandora, watching Netflix, tethering 4 devices and setting up a Webex? Probably not. I actually have to work while at work and my daughter gets my home time. PDF's, business uses, and making calls.... that about sums it up these days.

The one bad thing about having a NOTE 2 is..

It doesn't make me lust after any other phone on the market. It's already the pinacle of smartphone innovation.
With specs that our phone has: quad core 1.6Ghz, 2G RAM, 5.5" inch screen, LTE, S-pen and a microSD card I won't need a new smartphone for at least 4 years (if not longer). Because I don't see anything coming up that can trump this phone.

I also intend to use my phone for a long time, though not 4 years lol. Im afraid my lust for a new device won't make 4 years possible. 2 years is good enough for me. But I agree after a certain point of tech progression, a product is able to last a very long time. Heck my Q6600 and GeForce9600GT is still going strong, (2 gig of ram lol) I built that in 2008

It's too good. Can't complain. Can't really get up the energy to flash anything except to get as close as possible to 4.2 as quick as possible.

I know technology moves at break-neck speeds, but what more can they cram into a device that fits into your hand.
The Note 2 is already way more powerful than my laptop and on par with my desktop at work.

Was thinking the same thing.
Now I cant see myself using any other phone.
Note 3 would probably be an evolutionary upgrade:
New exynos +2gb ram
1080p screen + bigger battery = same battery life as note 2
Maybe same dimensions as note 2, but larger screen and smaller bezel
Probably a new s-pen

Better camera, note 2 was supposed to get 12 or 13mp but there was some kind of issue with supply of parts. In a couple of years we'll be using samsungs flexible screen tech

At least on the Note 3, they have a mountain load of new improvements to make. Their new generation of OLED screens will consume much less power as they still consume considerably more than LCDs. The new generation will have additional subpixels (phosphorous green) to improve the consumption on bright images.
The GPU on the Note 2, is, let's face it, outdated. If the Note 3 comes with the Exynos 5450 then it'll include a T658 which is twice as fast as the T604 in the Nexus 10, and you can already look those benchmarks up.
If the 5450 is big.LITTLE, then it'll bring unprecedented battery efficiency along with performance akin to the Nexus 10 but with double the cores.
We will have phones who run dual OS along with Ubuntu and act as a desktop when docked.
There is a lot of innovation going on in the mobile space. You'd be naïve to think that a phone will last longer than its intended product cycle.

The thing is that every product reaches a point where it is fairly mature. Can they add new stuff? Of course. Will the new stuff be enough to entice you away from a device who's shelf life is still young? That's the question. Up to now I've sold or handed down my current phone to move onto something with the new killer spec eventhough my current device was still going strong and would last for at least a couple more years. Im not sure the next device cycles will do that for me anymore.

Hardware specs alone don't make better phones... With those mega-cheap-o materials Samsung is using, it will barely made it to it's first year if not less!!!
Samsung should up the ante and use better materials if they want to keep on the top!

Although the battery would need to be increased to power that screen.

Yeah Note 2 was supposed to have the Sony 13mp camera. However LG had a large order in first and Sony couldn't supply the numbers required . So rumour has it anyway.

I'll say this device is a kind of flawlessness. The battery suites for it's hardware such as CPU, GPU, screen.
I don't know whether new sgn3 will utilize same screen size with 1080p or not. plus higher CPU and GPU
these will drain more power. the phone body would be thicker to support bigger battery.
I'm looking forward to seeing the new innovations coming in next year.

I got the LTE Note 2 last night and been playing with it since. One of my friends has the Galaxy S3 and was thinking of getting the Note 2 also but wanted to see mine 1st. He came to see me at work today and as soon as I handed him the phone he fell in love with it. One thing he asked me which I've just managed to answer....He asked if the was any bad points about the phone. Honestly the only thing I can think of is the size issue. Of course nothing is perfect and i can live with the minor annoyances. I'd give this Phone a solid 9 out of 10.
BUT having said that, it works both ways. A big phone means a GLORIOUS, BIG, HIGH-RES screen. I remember picking up my Nokia N8 last night after just half an hour playing with the Note and thing ''damn, has this phone shrunk?'' How will we ever go back to anything will a sub 5.5 inch screen
As for staying with it for years? Hmm that's a tough one. If they keep the same size but manage to put a bigger higher res screen (which is pretty much guaranteed-1080p) Then i might be persuaded to upgrade. I think the Galaxy S4 will be released some time in may and that'll give us a pretty good idea about what tech to expect in the Note 3.

The one bad thing about having a NOTE 2 is..
that i dropped it off my deska and cracked the screen

Yeah, the GPU is outdated, but honestly, we can always see its age in games. In overall UI experience it'll perfectly last another 4 years. CPU side as well.
Honestly, the Note 2 is more than capable of surviving 2 or 2 and a half years because the components it has are pretty damn good. The only thing that the Note 3 will be MUCH better at is at the 1080p screen, but if it's Pentile, perhaps it won't be that much better,

The only bad thing about having the note 2 is that My GPS won't work at times until I turn the phone off and back on again. ANNNOYYING !

The Note 2 Is Not Out-of-Date.

Now that CES is over, I still feel that the Note 2 is a strong contender 'till Q3 of this year.

Other than Chinese phones from ZTE, Huawei, and Lenovo with questionable hardware, software, and support, I saw nothing that was 5+" that I'd consider a N2 competitor. I think people bought the N2 for different reasons. I bought it because of the Wacom digitizer with palm rejection, S Pen, S Note, and the other functional enhancements Samsung's added. Nothing has been announced, leaked, or even rumored to compete with those features. For those that bought the N2 as a "giant phone" and nothing more there will be lots of newer phones with smaller and larger displays and higher PPI and faster SoCs out or announced in Q1 this year.

Note 2 was outdated as soon as it was released just like any other technology. And this thread since there is another just like it.

I dont think its outdated. None of the other phones have the added waacom digitiser and stylus afaik.

The only reason why xperia is better- it is water prof, but still pretty much useless add. 1080p ress? Who needs it? On small screen 720p is more then enough and AMOLED >>> TFT for sure.
At the moment Note2 is still peace of art and definitely not out dated.

Samsung should come out with a very small smartphone. That way there will be a phone I'll want to buy to switch to when I want to go mountain biking. Use the Note 2 when I want productivity at my fingertips, and then the micro smartphone for when I want to be on the move. Something the size of the RazrM, possibly a little smaller and defiinitley thinner.

Yep. I was tired of bouncing between Sense on my phone and TW on my Note 10.1. I really like the features of the Note 10.1 and now have them in a handier size.

Wow. Note 2 owners with wee wee envy. The phone was outdated as soon as it was released. Still doesn't stop it from being one of the best and most desirable phones on the market. Later little girls.

I agree. I have to put my note 2 in my bag with my water bottle and my one x (which is my music player).
Im looking at the xperia z to replace the hox as a secondary phone as long as it is a little more durable.
A note 2 and a mountain bike are a terrible combination haha

I don't see any phones on the market with much faster CPUs! Or with more RAM? Camera specs can be argued (more mpx doesn't mean better pictures). The only thing I can see as an upgrade in other phones is their 1080p displays. But I have a large battery. I have a stylus. I have a notification light. I have a removable battery, too! I have a big Samsung community behind me as well.
If you really feel like your device is outdated already then I think you have an issue with technology, and not the actual phone itself. if you really feel that your phone is outdated the moment it gets released then you must never feel content with anything you buy!
It's fast, and it has top specs if you ignore the 1080p display. I don't see any other phones with a wacom digitizer pen! I'd rather keep this display and the pen than have some over hyped 1080p display and feel like I have a GIANT PHONE.

I absolutely agree. CES 2013 did not lived upto my expectations. I was really expecting dome Phablet with real digitizer (that stick me to samsung).
Nothing noticable other then Huawei Acsend Mate exceeding Phablet Limits 6.1
