I was skyping my gf and I realised the screen starts to heat up.. its really warm or bit hot! Its at the upper section of the screen.. say down 20% from the samsung logo. Anyone have this problem? Or other screen heating up problems??

why note 1 heat up quite often after i use it for gaming or mobile internet. I thought it was quite normal

But it won't take any damage from it, right? It should be designed to work under maximum load and therefore heat for quite some time, I hope.
Are there any cases of s2 or s3 dying from overheating due to heavy cpu load like gaming?
It's perfectly normal , and nothing to be worried about. I would worry if it weren't getting hot xD

Actually the Exynos chip this generation shouldn't get as hot as previous generation. Since it made from the 32nm, for example, Samsung Galaxy S3 only gets to warm but not hot like the S2.
You should what is running in your background, I doubt Skype alone can ramp up all cores to make the heat your stating.
I did a 10minute skype call and yes it got warm but defenately not hot.
I confirm the area is the same as the OP says.
I did the call on 3g.

Its much warmer than my S3. Not sure if its normal, even without skype and just browsing with 3g its warm on the top part

I finally managed to get an hour+ gaming session. The processor gets noticeably warmer but I wouldn’t even describe it as “hot.” I can only compare it to the S2 which does get hot… very hot, very fast. I was surprised by how (relatively) cool the N2 remained. If it wasn’t for this thread, I wouldn’t even have remembered to touch the screen on top of the processor.
BTW, I’m not much of a gamer. This attempt was intended more to drive the battery down, so I could finish a full cycle and leave the phone charging overnight. Considering how long a full charge seems to last, this model looks like it doesn’t waste a lot of energy. That may explain why it doesn’t get as warm as some others.
After playing Shadowgun (galaxy s3 version that you can get for free from samsung apps) for about 20 min the phone got a little hot on the back at the top part. Nothing mayor.
Processors get hots when used. If I download a lot of stuff from Play store and at the same time play a high graphical game it will be kinda hot though.
Well this phones including my current one x have been designed to withstand enormous amount of heat..
When I game on hox it gets very hot..and according to people upto 100 degree celcuis it doesn't have any harm so getting warm is out of the question..
And quad cores running simultaneously generates loooot of heat..Bcoz there isn't a CPU fan in here..
So imo there is nothing to get worried

got my arc a few days back...apart from suffering from poor battery issues, I have noticed that when I play games on the arc, the top part around the camera starts heating up..
I observed it first when I was playing homerun battle with the charger plugged it..so I thought perhaps its because of playing while charging..
however, even after removing the charger and playing games, the heating continues..in fact the temp indicator on battery indicator shows temps of early to mid 30 C (86F) while playing games (I have not dared to let it go beyond tht)....while on idle it overs around early to mid 20C
is this normal?
my dell streak on the other hand rarely crosses 30C even on heavy gaming...
it's normal i'd say, mine does exactly the same. Infact most of my android handsets have done the same, must be due to the high processor power i guess.
When i have wi-fi off then the phone doesnt heat.
I think this happen cause of of many apps running in the background.

I never use the wi-fi on my handset apart from tethering, which is only occasionally but my handset heats up whilst playing games.
I think it's just down to the size of the handset. To fit everything into such a small body, all the components have to be very close together and that will impact how heat dissipates.
Think about laptops, they get noticeably warm when under heavy load in a way that desktop PCs tend not to, because there's more room in them for air to move and heat to dissipate - it's just the same but on a smaller scale, the differences in size of phones is obviously much smaller but so is the amount of heat being produced/power being used.
I would just like to say that the arc does not heat up very much, compared to an Atrix, that is. That phone regularly reaches up to 36c, and people have told me that going up to ~50 was NORMAL for it (eg using GPS navigation). The top portion also most likely holds the CPU and the rest of the components. I wouldn't worry about it too much..My arc is frequently around 30c during use. I think the battery life is quite good though
yup I thought so..its gotta do more with the size of the arc and what all it can do...and if you can go upto 50C then there is a long way to go.....
however, take for example my dell streak..its a 5 inch screen in a body which is 9.9mm thin...so a big phone and pretty thin but still it doesnt heat up too much...
on the other hand think about the Samsung galaxy s2...8.49 mm and a dual core processor...probably be a fireball after you play graphic intensive games on it for sometime..

Basically just ignore it - I'm pretty sure up to 40 celsius is alright, and the only reason why you notice it so much on Arc is because of how thin the device is. With summer coming though, I'd lay off gaming in direct sunlight
I once had quite a long session of angry birds; And after I quit, my temp was at 44゜C
Regardless of unhealthy temperature, it's still working up till now.
mine averages around 35. my 3G is always on and when on skype vc for a long time, it hits 43/44 too. but its due to the thinness of the handset.

It make not be incredibly thick but given the size of it's footprint, the components can probably be spaced out a bit more allowing the heat to dissipate more effectively.
My arc also heating up when I play dungen defender is really really hot especially the LCD screen...i feel that the tempreture is more than 60C ... will it damage the phone?
Jesus people, youre running a 1GHz CPU and a 3D graphics card flat out in a package not much bigger than a PCMCIA card, i think you can expect it to get a little warm.
When i think about the size of the heatsink+fan i had fitted to my first 1GHz desktop CPU to keep it from melting itself into a puddle of silicon, i'm amazed that modern phones manage to keep from spontaneously combusting.

kinda offtopic but compared to the x10 where the cpu is under the battery, the heat would transfer to the battery causing it to overheat and reboot. i'm glad SE placed the cpu away from the battery.
it also seems like they've added a larger metallic plate (can be seen under the battery) in the Arc for improved heat dissipation.

all CPUs nowadays have a temperature threshold up to 70°C .. that means if the phone hits this temperature it will shutdown automatically, if this doesnt happen you dont have to worry and i think you will feel the difference between 40 and 70°C

Thanks for clarifying mate . What concerns me though is when its idle after charging @100% sittin' there say like 10-20 mins, check battery and boom! almost 50% was lost.

According to the manual you shouldn't be using the phone at all when charging

The reason it's recommended not to use the phone while charging is because it reaches high temperatures much faster and so is more likely to overheat causing hardware problems
I personally don't game while charging since this phone (especially i9505) gets really hot really fast

yes i know that heating its very rapid while under charge..expecially now that its so hot during day and cant dissipate...in may when i bought s4 had less problem

Almost every good phone gets hot now and then. My rooted S4 barely gets hot. I mean i flashed a great rom (omega rom) and flashed an amazing kernel (perseus) and played a bit with cpu voltages and i undervolted my cpu and it barely gets hot , and when it does , it does not get very hot .

i tryed to underclock processors but,maybe i just made a mistake, i saw the battery drop much faster...i setted max speed at 1.2 last time but never tried again

I thought I was going crazy, but YES, the phone gets unusualy hot just below the camera.
I noticed this right after performing the Apps2SD update, and since then have been freaking out!
I am afraid that constant heating and cooling of this kind can damage the sensitive parts inside,
so I have been limiting my use of the phone in the last few days.
People, this is not normal. Somebody needs to contact Samsung.

I think it is completely normal.
It is already a very hot summer. (I guess "H" means you are in Asia )
The phone is complete water resistant and there is no way to pass the air inside it.
Don't keep your phones flash ON during video shooting.
Don't play heavy games like Asphalt 8 for a long time.
Don't browse for a long time on 3G or don't download big files on 3G.
Just do these things until summer ends.

Yes I am from Asia-Bangladesh. Here now temperature is very high. But me most of the time stay in air conditioned room/office thus phone can't identify summer hotness !!! This is something annoying. I usually keep phone in my front pocket. But leg seems burns. What about your one ?

My phone won't get hot unless I play heavy games, Download big files via 3G or keep my LED Flash ON for 15 minutes.
once time get heat my phone sm-g900H
and after restart,ever again heat the phone..only when i play games a lot of time goes 38 Celsius..

I think, it's a defect. Or should I say, it's normal. Every time I play heavy games, yes, my battery's getting so hot. Unless, we're talking about very very hot and making your battery empty, yes, you need to consult a technician.
i have the same problem, I think it's normal.
Try lowering your Max CPU speed to 1728mhz. This will reduce overheating drastically. You need to be rooted though.

Hi i bought the device two days ago and whenever i use it (i start opening Facebook, instagram, WhatsApp and other apps) it gets Pretty warm in the right side or the screen and behind. The CPU reaches 50 degrees and sometimes 55 and the worries me. What should i do? Is it normal or should i return it? I previously had an Honor 7 and it reaches the same temps but it doesnt feel that warm at the touch, it Just gets warm in the bottom left corner.
the temp while i'm typing is 41C, outside its 33degrees C and inside(where i am now) its 24degrees.
I do not believe this is normal whatsoever. My S8+ has been one of the coolest-running Samsung phones I have ever owned. You might want to return/exchange it if that is possible.
I have not used/tested with any apps to determine actual Temps but it never gets hot. It gets warmer but not very hot (like my S7 Edge did) when using Gear VR.
Have you done the simple things like closing all apps & rebooting? Clearing cache, etc? Maybe some app is "stuck."

I would say 5mins. Now it gets maximum 48 degrees in the CPU but i feel the screen and the body Pretty warm... Maybe it's me... I don't know. Feel free ti suggest me what should i do

my first device share the same issue with your's
well i ask for a exchange, the new unit just go to 45 when running games, most of time it wouldn't even reach 40 degrees
but
new device came with new problems, red tints, home button problem
it's up to you
ask for replacement until you'er satisfy with it
I would get an exchange(Yeah right the real me would hold on to it until it melted because i'm lazy). So far this is the coolest smart device I have ever owned. Even when playing intense 3d games and emulators it only warms up a little.

If you're constantly scrolling and opening posts the phone will get warm, Facebook isn't exactly a battery friendly app, but if you're stuck at a post and reading it for a while it shouldn't get warm, it really depends how you use the phone. I can get my phone warm using twitter too. My friends z5 with the sd810 gets toasty.

I advise reading your manual, which specifically tells you that the device will heat up with use and the heatpipe is located on the top right section of the phone x)
The reason why it may feel hotter than your previous (?) phone is because the metal rim (and whole body) acts as a heat spreader and the heatpipe connects to it with a thermal pad.

What you need to look for is battery temp and not cpu temps. I consider battery temps a more steady measure of over heating rather than cpu as they dont spike.
Eitherways heavy bad background apps will make any device hot. Now if your just browsing on chrome with no background apps and your device temp ( battery temp ) is around 40c in a 20c room thats when ill be worried and exchange the device.

i received yesterday, and im comparison to my OP2 this one feels all time warm.
just looked at the battery temp and it's @ 35,8°C... i will look out for the temp, and see if it changes

I got my S20 a couple days back and never since that day have I not seen my phone heat up every now and then.
Heavy multi-tasking ; this thing starts to warm up which is normal but what is not normal is how excessively hot this device get when using the camera for a little over 5 minutes , whether it is recording videos or clicking pictures, this device becomes unreasonably hot.
Playing a little bit of game on highest settings for a couple of minutes shouldn't be causing as much heat as the S20 ends up generating.
I am skeptical for the logetivity of this device if this heating up keeps up on such trivial tasks.
Not sure, but has anyone before ever experience this kind of problem and has seen the OEM actually fix it with mere software updates?:fingers-crossed:
Let's discuss the status of each of our devices and figure if only a bunch of us have the devices which are behaving like this or is it happening with all of our phones?

Yes I'm also experiencing same thing. Even watching a 3-4 minute video on YouTube makes the phone feel warm. Camera heats up the phone very quickly.
Hope Samsung solves the issue.

Same here...or even worse. 5 mins on facebook/twitter and then the device becomes obviously warm.
Same thing happens when doing wireless charging. It still gets warm quite quickly even when fast wireless charging is disabled.

Same problem. So I went to Samsung Service center and told them the problem regarding this overheating issue. What they are telling me is that 41.8 degrees(what they have read from my device using a thermal scanner) is normal (I don't think so as 42 degrees for trivial task is absurd) also they inform me that they will reinstall the operating system once again and check whether the problem still persists, if yes replacement will be done by giving us one certificate that we can take it to the shop where we have bought the phone and get a new s20 (what a lengthy process).

New Software updates
Since I wrote this post, there have been two updates pushed by samsung.
None of them made any dent to the slew of problems that this phone has been having.
I tested antutu score, I know they are not the real test for day to day usage but these scores have actually dropped since latest update.
The camera albeit is better at focusing , I can testify to that as I made two videos before and after the updates and I can see some difference but the heating is still going on like crazy.
Now I think, Samsung should have added a heat vapor chamber in the phone to manage this hot garbage.
Very disappointed to have payed so much and not even get the performance as good as the last year's SD devices.

Samething on Exynos. When it hits 40c, it automatically switches to 60hz and get back when it cools down. Exynos was never good.
But one thing I can say for sure if you are worry about longevity. Never user your phone while it is charging. One thing is using your phone hot while discharging. Another thing is using it while charging and it will definitely impact battery life long term speaking.
I would disable fast charging too.
Same here! And if you have like 30-35% battery and your phone begins to heat up, say goodbye to 120hz, I think it throttles so hard that the performance can't go beyond 60.
It is really very very disappointing .It gets up so hot just using the device continues for 30 min. Once the temp cross 40+ it switches to 60hz. hahahah for this we have to pay a premium price.
Have already started to have 2nd thoughts for next galaxy devices with exynos. really really very annoying to use this phone these day in hot summers.
I hope to get it fixed soon. if not probably iam goning to quit this phone. very disappointed.
Display turns into yellow
Same problem here with ultra exynos after watching serval videos and using camera for 10 to 15 mins. At low brightness display turns yellowish because of heat and screen turns into 60 hz automatically. Has anyone noticed this yellowish problem?

Yeah, noticed that too. I tried turning off the 120hz and it fixed the issue.

That's strange. I have noticed 2 times yellowish display like a filter and after increasing the brightness it was OK but after reducing again it went to yellowish. Thank you for the info..

Yeah, i also noticed that the yellowish tone was more at night. During the day i didn't notice any problem

It goes back to the early 90's when Samsung made a trade deal with Qualcomm. As a result of the trade deal, Samsung were allowed to use Qualcomms products but only in the markets where Samsung's products didn't compete directly with Qualcomms i.e the USA.
Nobody held a gun to your head when you bought the device. You could've just done a simple Google search and found a way to import the SD variant. Samsung aren't discriminating - it's called business.
If you dont like the Exynos variant, the OnePlus 8 is being announced on the 14th - that'll surely have the SD865.
It sucks, the only software solution I can see is throttling TBH.

Least expected from a flagship
I have a S20 and it heats up to that level that with a cover also it gets uncomfortable to hold. And this observation is with not any heavy use, very routine use like checking Gmail, watching Youtube, browsing Instagram.
I sold my one plus 5t and got this phone, very disappointed, should have waited and bought a one plus only. Samsung, if you are hearing me please fix this - if it's a hardware issue, please recall and provide a replacement, if it's a software issue please fix. But stop asking customers to go to service centres as it is not a specific problem to any phone. Most if not all exynos customers are facing it.
We been really ****ed over by samdong with latest updates the charging has gone from 1 hr to charge from 0 to 100 too 80 mins and only reason i can think of is because of the overheating that exynos is suffering so we pay nearly 1400 notes for this piece of **** and its getting worse on every update **** you samdong
