I wasn't sure where to post this and have searched everywhere to see if this question was already asked (and I can't believe it wasn't)----Does anyone know how/if it's possible to transfer app settings and data from one tablet to another without root? I bought a Galaxy Tab (the original 7") from Verizon last year (HUGE mistake) and am absolutely ready to finally dump it for the Nexus 7. I guess because the original tab is such a crappy device there hasn't been too much development on it, so I was never able to find out how to root it. I'm tired of the constant freeze ups, crashes, and all around sluggishness of it and have my Nexus 7 on preorder, but there are a few games I've been playing on my tab since I bought it last year that I would like to transfer over and not lose my place. Is there a way to do this? Again, I'm not rooted and don't know how to with this tablet. Any advice?
As far as I know, you can't do this without root.
Dear All,
I know this has been asked countless times already, but I was wondering if the Samsung S3 USB connection kit would work with the N10.
I've seen the OTG cables and seemingly these work without a problem, but I find the cable to be a bit sloppy visually
and would like something a bit more discrete.
(edit)
I'm unable to post outside links on account of being a new member and all.
But If you put: "Mobile Fun Connection Kit for Samsung Galaxy S3 / Note 2" in google images it'll be the first ones to pop up.
There's a demo vid on youtube as well.
It seems to work great for the S3 and I don't see a reason why it would not work with the N10, but I wanted to be sure before actually purchasing.
ps. this was my first post so if I put it in the wrong forum or whatnot, Mods please do correct me.
Many thanks in advance,
K!P
That doesn't look discreet at all.
I don't see why it wouldn't work, but why not spend $1 on an OTG cable and have access to all the same features?

err yeah! as blueback said, thats not descreet!
It will work as the micro sd card reader i made for my nexus 10 also works in my friends s3. There are better things out there though
Great,
Many thanks for the reply guys.
Indeed, discrete may not be the right word.
But I find it looks a bit cleaner.
I just find a loose cable a bit sloppy, hanging to the side.
This just goes a bit more with the lines of the device and plus it has the micro SD etc.
Me thinx me shall order this.
I'm actually still waiting for my N10 to arrive.
Paid a hefty premium on Ebay and still have to wait 2 weeks for delivery.
Thanks again for the input guys.
Much appreciated.

Hi everyone, I have a quick question and haven't been able to find the answer anywhere.
I just got the update to 4.3 last night on my Nexus 7. I forgot to check about Miracast support. I usually leave it at home for my wife and daughter and take my Nexus 10 to work.
I know the Nexus 10 got Miracast support with 4.3, but I need to know about the Nexus 7 and don't have it here to check. Can someone let me know?
Trying to swing by Best Buy on the way home and pick up the Netgear PTV3000
Thanks.

Only Nexus 4, Nexus 7 (2013), and Nexus 10 have Miracast Support.

That's some BS. Do you know of any mods or ROMs that have added the support yet?
There is already a working Miracast rom, but people/dev don't seem to be interested, so I don't think this rom will be include it to the other popular rom out there for the Nexus 7 (2012).

I think some one got it working on PTV3000, if you read the Youtube comment.

Here is a 3D gaming I asked him to test out, just in case some one wanna know.

Here is the rom site for it:

I don't have a Miracast receiver to test it out, but people who do can test it out.

It's not BS, because I answered your question with quotes. You didn't mention custom roms in OP.

Hahaha. I wasn't saying your answer was BS. I was saying that Google not including it in the 4.3 update for the N7 was BS.

This I never understood, why is that? I would have thought developers would have been right on to this. But kensuke has shown it is possible.
And watching the videos I think it's fantastic. Yes the gaming one had a bit of latency, but it looked minimal. Afaik, other devices (n4, n10) that officially support miracast have similar latency so I don't see why the n7 wasn't officially supported. I'm way more excited about this than chromecast which everyone seems to be freaking over.
I had a look at kensuke's page hoping for news on this being in 4.3 and saw this:
""Remove all traces of wifi display sink implementation and supporting code." "
Sink implementation means that a miracast device can act as a host. So you could miracast from one nexus 7 device to another.
But google has removed sink implementation in 4.3 source! Why would they do that?
Not that I would use the sink feature al the time, but it could be cool where you are trying to demo something to someone, they could just connect to your device and show them. I could think of lots of cool features with that, but for whatever reason, google has removed that code.
Yes the code is there in 4.2.2 but I imagine trying to put old code back can be difficult.
I read that from here:
https://github.com/kensuke/How-to-Miracast-on-AOSP/wiki/Android-4.3
I hope he's successful in getting miracast to work in 4.3 and I also hope he can reimplement the sink feature but again, I understand that may be difficult because of google removing it.
When I saw the gaming video here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20s567tzTdM&feature=player_detailpage&t=316
I noticed how good the picture was. It made me wonder if there was anything in the miracast spec on performance/quality settings. When miracasting a movie I'd want the highest quality and wouldn't mind latency, but with a game or any realtime app, the less latency the better. I wonder if encoding at a lower bit rate would help tackle the latency? Maybe not as it's hardware encoding the steam and it's the onboard encoder chip and not the settings that would influence latency.
Thanks to kensuke for his efforts. I'm still somewhat surprised that it's taken this long for a developer to attempt to tackle this.
And I really hope other devs would show interest and incorporate this into their roms.
Im really surprised to see that no developer other than kensuke is interested about miracast support in nexus 7. This would be the best Customization ever done for nexus 7. A lot of people would be loving to have this feature yet there is only one rom which kensuke made for only miracast test purposes. It can not be ported to 4.3? - dont mind using 4.2.2 until i upgrade to 2013 nexus 7.
Devs hear us out!
Hi guys. Yesterday i bougth SONY TV with miracast feature. Can i use mentioned ROM to mirror screen of my N7 to SONY TV. I am still using Parandroid ROM(v.3.60) based on JB 4.2.2. Do i need to flash whole new ROM or there is any script or application that i can use?

Hello all.
Just wanted to share my experience with my new nexus 7 tablet. I picked it up at bestbuy Friday since it was tax free weekend here in Tennessee. I must say I am very impressed with this tablet. I had the original N7, and sold it 2 months ago to purchase a 32 gb nexus 10. I fell in love with the N10 immediately. It was by far the best tablet I had ever used. Well, this new N7 is just as good if not better. I will say, it is hard to compare the two because they are vastly different animals. I personally think the new N7 beats the N10, especially spec wise, but with the difference in screen size, these two tablets are really designed for completely different tasks.
One thing I have not been able to sort out yet is being able to use usb storage with my new N7. I am able to use my external hard drive with my N10 as well as my new Macbook air and even my Galaxy Note 2, but have not been able to use it with my N7 yet. Furthermore, I am also unable to get my Macbook air to recognize my N7 without booting the macbook into Win7. Sometime in the near future I will root the new N7 and install stickmount and see if it will recognize usb storage. I have not
researched a root method yet for the N7 but I'm sure there is one available, and if not there will be one soon. Most likely this will fix my usb storage on the N7. Still kind of stumped as to why my Macbook will only recognize it when booted in Win7.
If anyone has any questions about the new N7 feel free to post or shoot me an email at [email protected]. I don't mind answering any questions you may have because I know personally I like to do as much research as possible before I buy a new piece of electronic equipment.
Droid Nas app will make it easy to transfer files in between your Macbook and your Nexus 7. I haves used it on both models.

Tax free weekend in Tennessee? Is that a normal thing that happens? Curious!
Previously bought a 2012 Nexus 7 that had a custom rom on it, damn thing had screen issues or something. Spazzed out all the time, wouldn't update or anything. Sold it for what I bought it for used.
About two weeks ago picked up a new 2013 Nexus 7, still sealed in the box for $100!
Couple already both had them and it was a company gift, guy was looking for a quick sale. Seemed to good to be true online but I went anyways and there it was, genuine in all of its glory with a clean serial.
Mostly going to use it for work purposes, being a process server taking field notes on a tablet and backing it up to my drive is far easier than writing down notes with my sloppy handwriting.
Going to research through the threads and look into a possible custom rom or playing with it more. Currently have a Unity launcher running on it which is pretty clean and nice.
Anyways just throwing myself out there, i'll be around lurking.
Ok.
