[Q] Transferring App Data to Nexus 7 - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I wasn't sure where to post this and have searched everywhere to see if this question was already asked (and I can't believe it wasn't)----Does anyone know how/if it's possible to transfer app settings and data from one tablet to another without root? I bought a Galaxy Tab (the original 7") from Verizon last year (HUGE mistake) and am absolutely ready to finally dump it for the Nexus 7. I guess because the original tab is such a crappy device there hasn't been too much development on it, so I was never able to find out how to root it. I'm tired of the constant freeze ups, crashes, and all around sluggishness of it and have my Nexus 7 on preorder, but there are a few games I've been playing on my tab since I bought it last year that I would like to transfer over and not lose my place. Is there a way to do this? Again, I'm not rooted and don't know how to with this tablet. Any advice?

As far as I know, you can't do this without root.

[Q] Things To Do w/ Nexus 7

Hello guys, first time posting on XDA. I've been reading these forums though for a long time.
Anyway, yesterday I ordered a Nexus 7 from an Indian shopping portal. My first proper Android device. A few Q's:
Can I attach a pen-drive to the thing via OTG?
Now, I'm worried that the screen separation bug might hit me or something. Is it easily fixable or must I RMA if it happens?
How is the default JB keyboard? Is it fine or must I buy SwiftKey?
Any good cases/keyboards etc?

Vitalsource Bookshelf App

Hello All-
I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the vitalsource bookshelf app on the nexus 7. I am looking to buy a tablet specifically for use with this app because I need something for my study materials, but the reviews of the app are poor. It seems like a hardware hog so I figure that the Nexus 7 should be able to run it fairly smoothly but don't want to drop $250 to find out the app still sucks on it. Obviously I get to keep the tablet as a toy after...
Any insights appreciated
Hello, my college uses Vitalsource Bookshelf as well.
However, back when i was using it on Android, I had a galaxy tab 10.1. It did not run very well on that tablet, so I ended up trading it for what I could get...which was actually a windows tablet lol.
The reason the galaxy tab 10.1 was so bad is because vitalsource is a very resource heavy application and the tab 10.1 couldn't really handle it.
I think the Nexus 7 would handle it much better (I have no experience with it personally, just with the app). It has two more cores and a much better processor than my tablet had.
Go for it dude, worst case scenario is you gotta send it back for a refund right?

Thanks for the input. I searched "google nexus 7 and vitalsource bookshelf" and your post on XDA came up from early September which is why I was hoping you had found an answer. Unfortunately I didn't have enough posts to post in the developer forum.
This is a question, so you actually put it in the correct forum. If you'd put this in the development forum, you likely would've gotten only responses about how you're not supposed to post this kind of stuff there.
No problem on the input. If I could've gotten a Nexus 7 when I traded my Gtab away I probably would've but no big deal, my tablet runs it so I'm a happy camper.

I know, really old thread but what did you end up getting to run bookshelf? I have a daughter in grade school who has to use the exact same program for her books and it's a nightmare to use on a Nook Color (it hangs, crashes, and when it does work it's slow as hell).
It sounds like it's a poorly coded app that really doesn't work right on anything correctly so does anyone know of an alternate program to view these books? This forum seems to be all about workarounds, maybe somebody has something.

just got my new nexus 7!

Hello all.
Just wanted to share my experience with my new nexus 7 tablet. I picked it up at bestbuy Friday since it was tax free weekend here in Tennessee. I must say I am very impressed with this tablet. I had the original N7, and sold it 2 months ago to purchase a 32 gb nexus 10. I fell in love with the N10 immediately. It was by far the best tablet I had ever used. Well, this new N7 is just as good if not better. I will say, it is hard to compare the two because they are vastly different animals. I personally think the new N7 beats the N10, especially spec wise, but with the difference in screen size, these two tablets are really designed for completely different tasks.
One thing I have not been able to sort out yet is being able to use usb storage with my new N7. I am able to use my external hard drive with my N10 as well as my new Macbook air and even my Galaxy Note 2, but have not been able to use it with my N7 yet. Furthermore, I am also unable to get my Macbook air to recognize my N7 without booting the macbook into Win7. Sometime in the near future I will root the new N7 and install stickmount and see if it will recognize usb storage. I have not
researched a root method yet for the N7 but I'm sure there is one available, and if not there will be one soon. Most likely this will fix my usb storage on the N7. Still kind of stumped as to why my Macbook will only recognize it when booted in Win7.
If anyone has any questions about the new N7 feel free to post or shoot me an email at [email protected]. I don't mind answering any questions you may have because I know personally I like to do as much research as possible before I buy a new piece of electronic equipment.
Droid Nas app will make it easy to transfer files in between your Macbook and your Nexus 7. I haves used it on both models.

Tax free weekend in Tennessee? Is that a normal thing that happens? Curious!

Nexus 7(v.1 2012) - Make it usable?

Hi,
I want my son(4 years old) to use the Nexus 7 tablet, and I think i need to root it and do some modeification. I need a ROM that has only the most necassary apps. The tablet will only be used with some apps, and watching movie files and some audio files.
Is there a recommended setup for this? I guess I'm not the first guy to do this? I run v 5.0.2 now, and I think it runs ok.
EDIT: I only need Play app from the google apps
Sometimes I think they are going out of their way to mess up the old Nexus 7. I've had mine a long time, rooted it and have been using official CyanogenMod releases all with the same number of apps and the N7 keeps getting slower and slower. The only thing I can think of is that all the built in apps just get more bloated with each update and I don't see any benefit, actually I see the opposite.
You might try the 5.1.1 update. That helped my N7

Galaxy Tab 4 7-inch (any way to make apps work from SD card?)

Hello. Looking for ways non-rooted (would be best) or rooted to move apps to a uSD card on a Galaxy Tab 4 7-inch Wi-Fi. What a horrible situation, I bought a few of these tabs during Christmas for my kids and all of them were out of space in a couple days, and when I tried moving apps to a uSD - was shocked to find out that I could not.
Sorry, I did find a couple threads regarding this, but since I started this new topic I didn't know how to cancel it out. So maybe there's some new suggestions that will come of this.
Thanks all!
