Hello,
I am experiencing heavy lags and timeouts while using multiple applications, using the phone application and while downloading via 3g data connection.
It doesn't matter which build I use.
Is the reason for this behavior known? I think it's kernel based.
Furthermore I use the browser really much, but compared to windows scrolling and zooming is damn slow and choppy. Is it the gpu or cpu, the hw3d driver or to small amount of free ram?
Greetings,
Sebastian

yeah, it's because you are using Android from microSD card. You probably have class 2 card, try using some nice class 6. Also, please note that Android will eventually be run in HD2 memory, therefore speed will be much faster.
For now, we all stick to Android on microSD card.
They are all beta realeases. Thanks for posting your bug report, but in future try to do that AFTER searching for similar posts, and then if you do find a NEW bug then add it to the already over-burdened threads that exist.
HD2 can run class10? If you can "ANDROID ROM is faster...
Get a better card!
The read/write speed of the card you are using makes all the difference. Using a 4gb class 6 card and it is running relatively smooth. Very little lag using Darkstone's builds. Minor lags with Dan's builds but no biggie. Every once in a while, under heavy use, I get unresponsive screen for a couple of seconds then its back to normal. Will probably invest in a class 10 card to see if I get any better performance. Anybody using a class 10 please chime in and give us some input.
I'm using the stock 16gb card which is default in tmous hd2.
It's slow and choppy.
Hi!
I know i'm not alone having this reboots, maybe we can help the developers by ruling out the SD card... or some SD cards...
Would be interesting to know who have had no reboots at all and what SD card brand they have.
Can as many as possible post their SD card:
Brand
Class
Size
I use a Kingston 8 GB class 6 and are having the reboots on every build i have ever tried. It does not matter who has made it.
Sandisk 4GB class 2. No reeboots. Works great for everyday use.
I have freeze and have to do hard restart only when i play games for 30 minutes (overheat).
Kingston 4GB class 4. I never had reeboots. I use Mdeejay builds and works just great!

im exchanging my hd2 for a new one due to this issu
Transcend 8GB class 6. No reeboots. Works great for everyday use
16gb sandisc class 2
i have rare random reboots; mostly at nights while charging
1 x 8gb Transcend Class 6
1 x 8gb Sandisk Class 2
Using JDMS 1.6 ~ no freeze no reboot, loving it
16gb sandisc class 2
no reboots
Sandisk 8gb class 2.. no reboots whatsoever..
However i dont think these reboot issues are related to sd cards (unless maybe the cards themselves have a problem due to prolonged use or other factors)
I would advise to try formatting ur card on a pc (using a card reader if possible) and then formatting it while in winmo 6.5 (using the htc formatting application found in a stock htc hd2 rom)..
then try out any new build, without changing the kernel, and without overclocking (this can cause issues)
after this procedure, if all doesnt go well, then we can rule out that hardware is the prob (either card or phone)
oh n by the way, during this testing procedure, if possible, flash a t-mo US 3.14 rom (together with radio) using pc of course to keep ur hardspl from being overwritten..
@denyboy
try underclocking ur cpu, less or equal to 768mhz (some desirehd builds apart from mdj's revolution hd build become very slow when below 768)
this should keep the temp less than or equal to approx 40 degrees Celcius (that is if your not plugged in to charger and not in direct sunlight )
i have just changed from a sandisk 2gb to a kingston 8gb class 4. i was happily using a desire hd build and it was running brilliantly. the build doesnt like the kingston card though. i lags terribly so ive gone back to the 2gb for now.

Hi!
I'm doing a PC format and then a WinMo formating tool everytime i try a new rom. And i have no plans on overclocking at all I would like a kernal that's not over/under-clocked. But i have not found any.
SO, maybe it's my card or my phone. Will try the latest Artemis that is now Android supported (what ever that is) And then maybe i can use Android without any reboots as well...
I can stress my device with gaming and the temp is about 40-41 degrees without any reboots. Then the device can lay on my table without any use at all and suddenly reboots itself... very strange i think. I can buy the reboots when stressing the device (since this Android stuff is not for our HD2's) but when not using them.... nah...
Thank you for your reply!
I had random reboots on the 16gb class 2 that comes with the TMOUS phone and with a Kingston Class 4 8gb.
I don't think it is the card, it seems to have to do with the build/kernel. I never get reboots when running either shubcraft or michyprima's CM6 builds. I always get them when I run M-deejays and the topia series builds.
Stock TMOUS 16gb Sandisk Class 2 card. No crash or reboots. Many builds, many kernels.
Try
Darkstone's SuperRAM FroYo build as it puts system in ram, less stress on memory card.

Can't find "michyprima's CM6"? Is that a kernal or a rom build?

I must have the sense version thanks though!
Don't worry Darkstone is working on Sense version so it will be fine later on.

WHAT? are you saying Is he? Thought he left the scene....???!!!
Good news VERY good news, i have found his rom's very stable and good to me.
I'm just putting on mdeejays latest Desire HD version!
I have reboots only when using Sense/Sense HD builds (every few hours). It reboots automatically while the phone is IDLE regardless of the kernel. I don't overclock and the phone cannot be overheating since it reboots when it's idle.
I am now using tytung's NexusHD2 and I haven't a reboot in an entire week. Using a Sandisk 16Gb Class 2. I've been looking around for ages but haven't been able to figure out what could be causing this since it seems to a unique issue. Any ideas?

Hi there.
I was wondering how slower or cumbersome is the experience using SD CM7 or Phiremod vs having it EMMC.
Are there any benchmarks comparison (quadrant, etc) available on XDA or can someone share their experience and how different they feel?
ust to clarify I am not comparing CM7 vs Phiremod, just asking about the experience regarding SD vs EMMC. Thanks.
I guess this pretty much depends on the sd class so please mention in your comments which one you used!

Straight answer, running it off SD card does not "feel" any slower or more cumbersome.
I've come across posts from people who have tried both eMMC and SD installs of CM7/OC and claim that it actually feels snappier on their SD and then vice versa with other people. If you have a particularly good SD card, it may actually be (or perhaps just "feels") faster than eMMC. It's just too subjective.
In my own experience, I was having too many issues with random FCs and quirky behavior on SD card. eMMC was definitely smoother and performed better.
Turned out my overpriced best of the best Class 6 and Class 10 cards were the problem. I have since reverted to stock Nook on eMMC and running CM7 off SD card again.
Now I "feel" my current install on my new SD card (Class 4 Sandisk) is better. These particular cards have very good random small block r/w in comparison to higher Class cards tweaked for high speed sequential r/w. But it's all luck of the draw, same cards from a different batch may perform better or worse, YMMV.
Then again this install on my new card is using the latest CM7 stable running the latest OC test kernel at 1.3ghz. Quadrant scores averaging 2800.
Your straight answer was actually very complete Quadrant at 2800 is just insane, I just wish USPS was as fast upon delivering my Nook, I just can't wait!
Thanks for the SD card tip, I ordered a Sandisk class 6 and was thinking on ordering a second one to play with other roms, I think I will order a class 4 this time just in case...
Glad to be of help. Some other thoughts; IMHO this would be the best way to get CM7 + gapps/Market + OC kernel installed on SD card:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957
Grab the latest CM7 stable which is 7.0.2, gapps and OC kernel 4/04 or (4/24 test kernel), which you can find referenced in links from that thread.
You would be starting with a base installation here with the latest stable CM7 plus full Market access. Then you can build, and personalize it from there to make it your own, instead of say Phiremod which is a customized version of the same.
If you follow the instructions, it will be an easy smooth experience. 15 minutes tops. The tricky part may be in getting the timing right to get into "recovery" to install gapps. Instead of counting 6 seconds as per the instructions, count to 3 right when you see "Touch the future..". Be sure to have your wi-fi enabled and set up before you install gapps.
After you have CM7 and gapps/Market installed and running, then you may choose to OC it. With the latest CM7 stable and stock kernel, it actually runs very smooth even without overclocking (depending on your SD card). OC kernels up to 4/4 (1.1Ghz) just needs an easy uImage replacement as per the instructions.
However, newer test OC kernels (1.3Ghz) have modules and libs which you need to adb push over, which means you'd need the android SDK installed on your computer with working drivers.
Good luck.
I just got an HTC HD2 off of eBay. It came with a SanDisk 16 GB Class 4-ish MicroSD that I took out (since I figured it's too slow). I put in my trustly ol' 8 GB Class 10 with "MccMBoxmaX GS V7.0 SD" Android 2.3.3 on it.
Booted it up, everything except 720p Video Recording seems to be working, but I noticed some graphical glitching when there's some animation in the UI going on (I see no such glitching when flicking through the apps, web browser, and etc). Angry Birds (yes, I tested it), and GameBoid run very smoothly and no glitching whatsoever. Pictures taken with this build are acceptable quality.
Also, some things are little sluggish (like bringing down the notification bar) in this build.
Oh and, any resolution video recording with this ROM seems to be a no-go: it stutters like crazy. I'm thinking it's because it's trying to record on the SD while running the OS and the App off of the SD.
What do you guys recommend I do? Get another SD build, or get a NAND build? What ROM do you guys recommend?

it all depends on what your looking for ..if its a nand rom
if your looking for the new sense 3.0 ports
there are 2 that are really good AngelDeaths
[30.June.2011] AngelDeath Kingdom Sense 3.0 Release v1.4 [K:TyTung r10] and jhr5474s
[30 June 2011] ANIMATED SENSE 3.0 KINGDOM BASE/ WIFI WORKING[TytungR10]
then there are sense 2.1 builds with sense 3.0 parts in it
krendelrus [25.June.2011][MAGLDR/cLK] LeoRCMix S v.1.9 [Sense 2.1 + Sense 3.0][RAF 1.9OC] is a nice build
now if you want just a GingerBread build there are 2 that are really good
Tyweens [25.JUN.11][MAG/cLK]TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 Nightly v3.4.0[2.3.4][A2SD][tytung r10]
and Pongsters [31.May.11][ZIP]★★★★★HyperDroid-CM7-v2.1.0[a2sd+][CyanogenMod7 LEO 2.3.4][Tytung_R10]
all those above are nand roms
and im currently useing the one in my sig and love it
never even messed with android sd roms so i cant recommend any of those

because its gingerbrad and sense 3, video isnt working perfectly and the glicthes are common on the roms
it is nothing to do with your sd card
I see.
I like the convenience of syncing with Gmail Contacts. I unlocked the phone btw since I'm an AT&T user.
I came from an LG Incite with custom ROM. Boy what a difference Capacitive touch makes.
I've installed Typhoon Cyanogenmod 7. It feels a lot faster than the SD build I was using before, and did not have any of the graphical glitches while having a newer build of Gingerbread (2.3.4).
It did not have the option to not pull data from my Wireless Account during setup so it did use up $0.15 on my account. Had to disable Data in settings afterwards.
Found a bug in CyanogenMod 7 (latest build): disappearing dock after doing certain action:
how to reproduce bug: take finger, swipe across the screen from bottom to top, starting from the dock
Re-produced on a friend's Droid 2 with APEX too.
#EDIT:
Nevermind, not a bug. Seems to be a feature in ADW.

haha...... great rom you have tested for your first android build, that and the one in my signature are the only 2 i will flash between atm, there are alot of good roms out there i just prefer them 2..
Use the rom in my sig. However, update will be in a few weeks...
Its nand build froyo with 2.1sense. Older than than sense3 but no glitches. Uses data2Ext so you have about 700+mb system space. I feel that its the best functional rom.
99% stock. A better looking %battery indicator.
Including some cool comfortaa fonts.

Wallpaper is my own edited sense 3 version. Not included in rom

That rom is not Sense 2.1. Sense 2.1 is the first build that came with the quick power settings on notification and the new paginated app drawer and is only found on Gingerbread, not Froyo.
Still mixed up a bit, as a first time HD2 user (coming a long way from as ex-samsung galaxy S user) which ROM should I use ?
looking for stable ROM, prefer GB is possible.

Do a cmylxgo Stock DesireHD ROM v1.1.18. It's pretty much a perfect DHD ROM for the HD2.
Hey guys,
I just dual booted my hd2, super fruit 7.5 and cm9 ics nexus SD build, and I don't know if its just me, or if I was expecting too much, but the android portion is very laggy and slow to respond. Even typing is slow and laggy. Is this just me expecting too much from an Sd build? Or is there maybe something I did wrong?
Spl 2.08
Radio 2.15.50.14
Maglrd 1.13
SD card 32 gb sandisk mobile ultra class i
And Also when in windows, the earpice and speakerphone volumes are extremely low even when turned up to max.

12.Aug.2012 MAGLDR/SD NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.4-CM9-HWA-SD V2.6 is the ROM you've installed, isn't it.
I would at first try all recommendation of members in that thread which reported same or at least similary issue before starting a new one.
Short wrap up what you can do, update initrd.gz, increase sd speed, limit background process, increase cpu, format your sd card and so on.......you have to play with all of these parameters.
For most of all these actions you can use RomToolbox pro.
If you're still suffering maybe you try another build, again some people get the build running smooth some not, even the set up looks same on the first view.
I have alway's 2 or 3 builds on my sd and try them under normal conditiion, which means for my daily work, which includes phone calls,SMS, data/WiFi usage to justify which build to use at the end.
Good luck :good:!!

I believe we entered the era of laggy semi-functional ROMs post-Gingerbread. The last time I had no problems, lags of FC and the ROM felt stable and reliable was over 6 months ago. Can't honestly say which ROM worked as expected, no matter the title or description promises, so if you want to go with ICS or JB (even less functional), find the ROM you can live with without expectations of full functionality or lag.
