[Q] Call Speaker, Mms; Netflix, Hulu, & Other App Issues - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I'm currently using the Codename Android rom by 0.0 with the grapefruit kernel. Love this rom and I really believe the developers on this site are effin geniuses (it blows my mind the way you guys can develop these sorts of things. Thank Bob for technology). Anyway, I saw that a few issues I have are being worked on and the grapefruit kernel solved my WiFi issue and lowmic zip fixed the obvious.
Currently, the problems I am having are as follows:
I can't use speaker during phonecalls and I noticed that when I unclick speaker, I can still hear the person I'm talking to, but they can't hear me (unselecting speaker seems to permanently mute the mic for the duration of the call. The mic works fine as long as long as the speaker isn't selected).
The Netflix app crashes immediately, the Hulu app will not play videos because it'a missing DRM support, and a few apps like the piano app I use (easypiano two touch) crashes once I press on a key. There's also apps that have terrible display quality like The Sims and Office Jerk. Does the fact that flash player's not supported in Android versions beyond 4.0 have anything to do with any of these issues?
Lastly, mms won't send (it'll look like it's sending, but never succeeds) and trackpad won't wake up cell (But I think I read that that's not so much an issue as it is just not an option).
BTW, anyone know of a great + free voice recorder, FM radio, and car dock app? (2.2 had them, but this rom doesn't). Thanks in advanced. I hope the more I learn the less questions I'll have.

Epic specific development?

Let me know if there's a better forum for this, but I'm looking to get into Android development as soon as I get my phone next month. I've already written some sample apps with the dev environment running on the simulator. So I'd like to start writing some utilities next - they are the most simple to write usually (and people are more forgiving), and it'll help me up my skillzors.
With that in mind, what Epic specific things would people like to see? Throw out anything Epic specific. I'll probably come up with my own list once I own the phone, but so far I see a few things like:
Easy flashlight app
Better LED notification system
Better 4G management widgets
Keyboard remapping for smiley button etc
Throw out anything. I'm not promising anything, but I definitely want to get dirty and, while doing so, improve my own device.
Bluetooth audio and in-line audio preferences. Id like to be able to designate what apps push audio through bluetooth, speaker or in-line.
For instance, since my bluetooth headset supports stereo audio, evrything gets sent to it, but the speaker on it sucks, good for calls and nothing else. When in the car, I want music and notifications to go to the inline audio and calls to go to the bluetooth.
Also, the mic works now with in-line audio, but bluetooth still poses a problem. I don't have bluetooth in my car, but want it in my next car.
Thanks... btw, were did you do your research for development. I'm trying hard to get a better beackground and struggling. You can pm me this answer. Also ill test things for you.

[Q] Mic volume

I am having issues with the mic on the iconia. Volume is pretty low. While using gtalk the other side can barely hear me. Has anyone else been experiencing this?
Same here. Testing Fring and using the built-in mic or a headset mic, it is impossible to hear what I am saying. There is no mic adjustment in the Fring app and I can't find one in the tablet settings? Am I missing something that should be very obvious? How do you adjust microphone senstivity?
same problem with gtalk. It's sometime hard to hear what I say
I ve been having the same issues with gtalk. Havent tried any other voip app yet.
Mic works fine in voice recording apps though, so it can't be hardware related.
Maybe honeycomb issue??
Where are the mics?
i think the mic is atthe top of the screen in the crack dead center .click the vol up and click on the/pop up the middle i think is the mic volume .if/im/wrong sorry
I have the same problem on my galaxy tab 10.1 but mic volume seems low on all apps.
Just got the a500 and have experience similar results, mic volume is extremely low.
I have tried it with various voice apps, including gtalk, voice recorder, camcorder, etc, and the voice is really low.
Im begining to wonder that this is a hardware issue.
Is this issue consistent with all a500s? or only some models?
My mic is so low volume as to be virtrually useless. I tried plugging in an external mic and that was slightly better but not enough.
When using the voice recorder app I notice that the meter hardly moves off the stop, something wrong here.
I wonder if this issue is more common than it should be?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1162054
But some people here have said their mic is fine. I am going to check a few out in the shops and see if they are any better. Really, at the moment it's not suitable for skype or google talk which is what I got it for.
I still think its a honeycomb noise canceling issue. Plug In headphones while u record and u will see the difference.
I bought a second A500 yesterday and the microphone records my voice far better than the unit I've had for almost 2 weeks. With the old unit I can barely hear what I speak, but the new one I can hear myself clearly. Manufacturing date of the old one is may, the new one is manufactured in april. It did not get the 3.1 update yet so it's still running stock 3.01. One other thing I like about the new one I just got is that the volume buttons work a bit easier and don't require as much force to push them down.

That's the key right there.
It's a software problem not a material one.
I experienced the exact same thing as you.
Bought a new tablet and tested the mic with stock 3.0.1. The volume was fine.
Updated to 3.1 and the volume was very low.
Well, my mic sucks in a big way. I tried many times to use google talk, tango and so on with horrible results. I have to yell like crazy and they can barely hear me.
So... as a lot of ppl are complaiing and it's a software problem, is it possible they do nothing to solve it????? It shouldn't be that difficult...

I opened up my acer and moved the microphone to the front because before when recordingi couldnt catch a sound coming from recording eg. a person talking.
Now I can at least hear the voices of the people im filming.
For gtalk and skype and stuff i use a headphone set with a mic via the headphones jack, much nicer.
Cheers!

You don't say things like these and not tell us the how's and the what's. For example, what headset did you use? How did you move the mic to front?
BTW, I'm on 3.1 and have never had an issue with the mic. Just did a recording while I was driving and talking. Still sounds pretty good to me.

There is actually a thread further back if you bother to look that I opened and described everything and also uploaded a video to see the mic improvement.
Edit: Here is my thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1169050
Edit: Headset I used is a brand called EXIBEL Art.no 38-4061, cheap and works PERFECTLY I can hear and be heard as if in the room.
same issues. Sound seems to just stop as well after I use camcorder
Mine works well on any app except gtalk. Although I recently installed voodoo on my rooted Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the mic adjustments helped. Without Voodoo I usually just plug in headphones when I use gtalk and that solves the issue 100%.

My SGS2 has a second mic! :D And some little questions :)

Hey guys,it's my third day with the SGS2 and I'm still very very fascinated by the device.Still trying to get used to working without Sense and trying to figure out things about overclocking the thing(What the heck is internal voltage anyway?I'm using Tegrak Overclock Ultimate btw).
Anyway,I noticed that my GS2 has a second tiny hole next to the 3.5mm jack on the right side.It looks like a mic, although any sound I've recorded with the thing is still mono.Any ideas as to what that might be?I can post pictures if requested.
Anyway, two questions for which I'm still scratching my head:
1)How do I link my Google contacts with facebook ones?On Sense it was as easy as clicking "Connect" and searching for the Facebook contact. Here it must be trickier.See,when I connect my Facebook account it synced all of my Facebook contacts, which are 900 give or take a few.I tried to connect one contact with the Facebook one,it connected, but still it shows the picture I have on my Google account, not the Facebook picture. So,do I have to do this stuff like that or is there another way?And can I set the picture to the one they use in facebook?
2)Does anyone use GoWeather widget?I like it very much as an alternative to the Sense clock(even on my DHD with Sense) and it has an awesome weather app. However,on the SGS2(maybe even on the Desire HD but I hadn't noticed it ever happening) the time sometimes stops counting. And those "sometimes" tend to be very often. It just gets stuck, like time stops(sadly it doesn't).So it might be 4:30,but when I look at GoWeather's time it shows 4:10.Very annoying.Does anyone have such an experience?I am using FancyWidget until further notice but I don't exactly like it.
Thanks guys. And please bear with me,I'm still getting used to it.I'm no (big) noob, but some things are over my head sometimes and free time nowadays is scarce here.
Yes that is a second microphone, for Noise cancellation during calls.
Supposedly you can turn it off by pressing the menu button during a phone call, though i have not tried this.
Also it gives you stereo audio during video recording used in conjunction with the mouth microphone.

Well yeah but what the hell,my videos all have monophonic sound, not stereo.Although with the Hacked camera found in the Dev section(don't remember the author's name, but kudos to him) the sound is great, but stereo would give us the wow factor.
As for the other two questions?Anything?
It appears to use both microphones during video recording, but it`s only in mono not stereo like you said

Yep,exactly. It's a shame actually 'cause the hardware is there but software's not taking advantage of it.
Anyway,I want to ask another question that has gone unanswered 2-3 times already. Why is there no current reading in current widget?Instead of electric current values the widget says "no data".Does anyone know why?

UP..
Any news?
OP, regarding your second question, i had the same problem with the go weather clock and i found a fix by unchecking the default clock option that said automatically provided by network settings. Check to see if that's your case and if it fixes your problem

Call Recording on Atrix Chinese ROM

The ROM found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1615689 has a nicely-working call recording function. I am using it since last one week, and confirm it is a great ROM.
A screenshot is attached here...
Can you make a full review, i personally looked for a record calls solution. But that's not all. I would like to know for example how is battery life, bugs, smoothness.
If you can i appreciate.
Thanks.

that's only one-way recording.but in offical chinese ics rom for razr, it has two-way record.
and you can also take notes when calling.
but sadly.moto china won't release ics rom for atrix.
The ROM is quite fast overall, and I have not seen any bug or unruly behavior till now. Root Explorer, TiBU, Torch and a nice 'DSP Manager' is built in. DSP manager is like a system-wide equalizer, with which you can tweak the audio of Headset, Phone Speaker and Bluetooth device (independent of each other).
Recording is NOT one-way, it records the audio of BOTH parties simultaneously. The radio button (Start/Stop Recording) appears once the other party replies. I have boosted the Vocal (in DSP Manager) which results in good audio quality of the other party. The recordings are saved automatically once you hang up, in a folder "Voice" in the Phone memory.
Other features like Data Connection, WiFi, Fingerprint Scanner etc are working normally, without any hiccups etc. Subjectively, the battery life is like stock 2.3.4 (I have not run any test of it. 5-7% drain overnight).
Hope it helps.

I tried that ROM but couldn't get any signal, cell or 3G. Are you in US? I was using the N_01.77.30P radio and couldn't get it to work. I like the tweaks and other options in this stock ROM.
this is interesting. is this 2way recording? thanks for your help.

I am in India, and have flashed the modem avaiable in that thread (Chinese ROM thread in "Atrix General" section). I did not have any network or wifi related issue. It connected and worked well instantly.
@Chagla :- It records both outgoing as well as incoming calls (The radio button appears once the other party picks up). And it records YOUR voice AND the receipient's voice simultaneously---even when you are using bluetooth.
Hope it helps.
Seems like its using the "speakerphone hack"...?

Are there any news about call recording developing on any other popular Rom?

Hangout Seriously needs fixing

So the Nexus 10 should be a good device for making Google Hangouts calls or Google Talk. But every time I use it I get such a bad experience.
I want to use the speakers on the device but when I do either the other side cannot hear me or they get an echo, or sometimes I just cannot hear them. If I use head phones it is fine, but that is not the point. Does anyone else have the same problem?

I don`t think it a softwarebug, i think it's a hardwarebug. Try any software, where you choose front and rear mic, and you will see, that the front mic record really bad quality and extream weak. good luck...
I don't think it is. When you search using voice it is perfectly fine. Whenever there is any type of sound coming out of the device speaker it is somehow inputting that into the microphone and that this something which a software update can sort out.
Another work around is to attach a loud speaker through the 3.5mm jack. When you do that you do not get an echo being presented back to the user you are talking to.

I obtain a similar result as you. Not exactly the same. When I hear some body througt hangout-gtalk I hear him faltering and with very low sound. The work arround I did is:
It's behaviour is the same with gtalk video call.
With Skype works perfectly, so it isn't hardware issue. Please try it to corroborate. In didn't try with Tango, we should.
With headphones works perfect bidirectionally, but it demostrates nothig i think.
I think the problem is on echo cancelator applied on these apps.
What is your oppinion?
The geniuses at Google have the rear microphone as the default microphone for skype and hangouts...
We have an open ticket for it on the support pages, but they never fixed the issue in 4.2.2

But with skype works right for me, and you? Could you please attach link about your ticket to have a look.
I hope with new Key lime prime they do a apps comunication unification and fix it.
Tango is not working for me. Very choppy receiving audio and sending it back. Almost like a real bad speakerphone where the two callers are always "stepping on" each other.
This is my second N10 and I recall the first one working much better with Tango. I also added a case to this one when I got it, so maybe that's impacting it as well?
