Note II manual download links - Galaxy Note II General

Hey Everyone,
The English N7100 manual (v 1.1) is here:

That link is copied from this page:

I've never opened a smartphone manual up before. I go through everything on the phone when first turning on, am I the only one doing this?

Normally, yes.
However, with the Note 1, there were things you would never figure out without looking at the manual.
Stuff like, 'hold the button on the s-pen and swipe left to hit the 'back' capacitive button'.
Like I did with the Note 1, i'll scribble down anything non-intuitive and post it here.
I'm scouring for interesting things to test in my video review.

trial and error?

It was probably routing you to m.samsung.com, which breaks the link.
I posted a direct link to the manual.

Okay, I read the manual.
There is some stuff that is different from the Note 1:
Random interesting blurbs:
If the device receives an unstable power supply while charging, the touch screen may not function.
While charging, the device may heat up. This is normal and should not affect the device’s lifespan or performance. If the battery gets hotter than usual, the charger may stop charging.
Do not remove the battery before removing the charger. This may damage the device.
Your device accepts memory cards with maximum capacities of 64 GB.
New 'motion' features:
1) tap and hold, then tilt the device towards you to lock the phone.
2) When you pick up the device after it has been idle for some time or the screen has been turned off, it vibrates if you have missed calls or new messages.
3) While viewing call, message, or contact details, pick up and hold the device to your ear to make a call.
4) Pan to browse - when an image is zoomed in, tap and hold a point on the screen, then move the device to 'scroll' around the image.
5) Double tap to move to the top of a list of contacts or e-mails. (or anything, I hope)
6) Camera quick acesss: While the screen is locked, tap and hold the screen, then rotate the device to landscape to launch the camera!
7) shake the device to update e-mails or Yahoo News/finance/accuweather. (not random widgets though)
8) when the screen is turned off, move your hand across the proximity sensor to turn the screen on and view the # of missed calls/new messages/battery power level and "more"
New feature: Page Buddy:
Specify a set of apps to be shown on screen for quick select when:
1) You pull the s-pen out
2) You plug in a headset
3) You are roaming
s-pen notes:
The manual says: For best results, keep the S Pen mostly perpendicular to the touch screen and avoid using it at sharp angles.
That's also what it said in the n7000 manual and that was WRONG. It works best at a 30-45 degree angle. This will be tested.
New s-pen gestures:
s-pen still doesn't work with capacitive buttons and they changed the pen gestures:
hold button and draw a ^ (left-up, then right-down) for menu
hold button and draw a < (left/down then right/down) for 'back'.
hold button and up is now the quick command box.
hold button and draw around an image to save that selection to gallery -> screenshots.
new options to:
emit sound if pen removed/inserted
do nothing (i.e. not turn screen on) if you pull out the pen
launch a quick note if pen is pulled out.
display popup/sound if you walk when the touch screen is off and there's no s-pen.
have haptic feedback if the pen is hovering over files/subjects/other options.
Quick command box:
press button while hovering over quick command box to see assigned gesture commands.
Stuff that I haven't seen before (I don't know if it's JB or new touchwiz stuff)
================================
Notification bar has usual toggles (wifi/gps/etc) and has a 'blocking mode' toggle - to block/hide notifications. (This is rather nice for programs that hog a spot on the notification bar)
Task manager has an 'end all' button.
Face unlock is now 'Face and voice unlock' - i.e. face + voice command.
You can now capture an image/record video of a video call.
You can now, when entering a message or e-mail (stock app), specify a time/date to send it.
JB feature: option to download offline speech recognition data.
New accessbility option - Negative colors - reverse display colors for visibility (is this night mode?)
New camera modes
================
best photo - take a series of photos, save the best one
best face - take a series of group shots, combine the best faces into one group shot
buddy photo share - auto-share pics with anyone 'recognized' in the photo (via tags).
low light - take a series of photos and combine them to improve the image quality (i.e. reduced color noise)
Take photos using a voice command. (not sure if you can set a timer for voice-self shots)
New video modes
================
limit for mms - low quality video for sending via mms
slow motion -
fast motion
LED indicator:
settings to turn on the light for: charging, low battery, notifications, voice recording active.
Manual doesn't mention color choices.
samsung keyboard has an option to auto open the handwriting box if you tap it with the s-pen.
Touchwiz blah de blah:
----------------------
Homescreen has an 'easy mode' that leasts you easily add app/contact/setting shortcuts to the home screen.
Smart rotation! Rotates based on orientation of your face! (You can read lying in bed now, YEAH)
Display battery percentage (great)
Smart stay - keeps backlight on if you are looking at the display
Doesn't say if changing font size is more universal than it was onthe original note (which only affected a few apps)

Samsung is mistaking us with iPhone users lol

PhoneArena did a review which included a small battery life test.
They put the phone on 100% brightness and airplane mode and played a video for one hour. The Note II lost 8% of battery percentage, vs 13% for the GS3 and 17% for the Note 1.
Given that with the note 1 on WiFi, 40% brightness, power saver mode and a custom kernel, I can get +5h of continuous usage (xda/verge apps, web browsing, you tube), I can't wait to see what this new beast is capable of.

No specifications at all, strangely.
It's not in any of the other posted manuals either. Guess we're waiting for an unboxing video now.

Not a word about multiple windows like in the Korean launch demo in this manual....

Changed link to version 1.1 manual as per this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32250493&postcount=121
Only change I can see is the addition of multi window on page 32.
Still no sign of 'screen recorder' as shown in the first look video.

Its a great way to quickly press and toggle on/off your radios, BUT what i think would be FANTASTIC is that a long press or a hold on that same icon (so you're not wasting any more space)... Will launch the settings for that button.
Example, long press on:
1. Wi-Fi - takes you to WiFi setting
2. Bluetooth - takes you to Bluetooth settings
3. GPS - Maybe have this launch an application,
(i prefer GPS-Status, but I could see others wanting Google Maps)
4. Silent/Vibration - (see notes below)
or have it take you to settings/Sound/volume popup
or /setting/sound/vibrate popup
5. 4G - (see notes below)
or have it take you to Wireless/network settings
I understand cyanogenmod has a feature that allows you to select which widgets to display in this area. Great feature, because who really uses the silent button up top, that's what the volume rocker is for... And im sure 60-80% of us are not in a 4g area so that's a waste too.
I see no need for the Silent/Vibration in the pull down, we have a hardware rocker that does the same thing. So i say replace it with Brightness Auto on/off (with a long press going to settings/display)
Optional (i would like some feedback)
For most of us not is a 4g I would like 1 of three things
1. I love the tiny flashlight app/widget so it would be nice to pull down and turn flash light on/off https://market.android.com/details?id=com.devuni.flashlight (long press opening app?!?)
2. Open Phone, (log press open contacts)
3. DroCap (so you can take a screen shot.)
4. IDK what do you think????
So 1st off from a development point is this possible, The log press to other action and changing default action of slient/4G?!?!
And what do you thing about this request?!?!?
Thanks to the great delevorpers here and mkasick for his Ringer volume fix!!
That is a huge request lol. Not impossible but some major framework editing required. I don't have the time right this second but I'll look at trying to get one button to work just to see how hard it is

Even 3g toggl in place of 4g toggle would be a huge help to me =D i know it's not so hard to press the power key, but (half?) of the US doesn't have 4g lol
Lol, I guess it is a big request, I'm not a developer so I wasn't thinking what would be involved.
I was just throughing it out there.
...But I was pretty sure that if it could be done, it would be incorporated into most of the Roms here.

Not exactly we can attempt to rewrite ours but we have tw framework-res.apk controlling our status bar buttons and it don't like to be altered at all and I wonder if any of this had to be changed before the os was built by the compiler but most likely not on that

As someone who travels quite a bit, I can tell you that the vast majority of the country does not have 4g. Population-wise, 4g is near a lot of people (major cities/large population), but geographically it is almost non-existant.
As for the idea in this thread, if someone could get this to work it would open up a whole mess of new possibilities. I'd imagine if you could make the toggles open up the settings, you could also make them do a whole slew of other things, and maybe even replace the dock entirely for those of us who prefer things minimalistic. Not holding out any hope, but it would be really really cool.

Swipepad does pretty much what you are asking, only in a slightly different way. It's even a little better, I think, because the swipepad will appear even at times when you can't get the drop-down thing because you are inside an app. Anyway, it's a free app in the market that I use for a lot of the stuff you are wanting (basically it gives you 12 quick launch buttons that you can set to whatever you want and which appear when you swipe on an area of your choosing) --- try it out and see if it meets your needs:

Thanks for the cool app. Neat idea! but most of the time i find it hard to enter the swipe menu...

I love this app! Key to it is say you on default top right. Don't slide down the edge and to the right it opens notifications. Put your finger right where the screen color ends and the black border starts anywhere that red line showes when you set it up. It vibrates then slide to the left

I decided to translate a preview of the Samsung Galaxy S III that I found on Finland's number one Android site, androidsuomi.fi
I encourage you to visit the original blog post, there are some nice pics of the phone and the UI as well as some sample videos!
The text of the review has been translated to english by me, so that everyone here can enjoy it. I do apologize for the somewhat clumsy translation work, turns out it was really really hard - and it definitely made me realize just how lousy Google Translate is... It was of very little help in the end!

I want to say to everyone who thinks the phone is ugly on the basis of the press photos, you are wrong. Thank you. Samsung's press photos do not in any way do justice to the device, and the device seems somehow very unnatural in the official photos. In person the device is truly stunning and one of the best looking Android phones on the market today. I am recommending to everyone who is scared of the device's looks to check out the device in the wild. If the device even after that appears to be an ugly mistake, then you are very hard to please.
Samsung has decided to stand out from the predecessor also when it comes to the sales presentation of the device, and unlike the Galaxy S II's packaging, the new phone's packaging is a virgin white. The box does not contain any oddities, in addition to the phone there is a battery pack, headphones, quick guides, a charger, and a microUSB cable.
Externally, the device looks like the next generation of the SGS2 and the Galaxy Nexus, with the design language of the Nexus, but adding to that the SGS2's width and the physical keys. Speaking of the width, the device is only 4 mm wider than the SGS2, but feels narrower in the hand, thanks to its rounded figure. On the front of the device we find a 4.8 "1280 × 720, HD resolution Super AMOLED display and on the top of the screen is a 2 Mpix webcam.
At the bottom of the display we find a redrafted version of Samsung's home key which can be found next to the menu and back buttons. Thank you once again Samsung for leaving the menu button on an Android 4.0 phone, because it makes it a lot easier to use the phone. The staff of this site have never really liked the native, badly designed menu button of ICS, a physical one is much more comfortable to work with. On the right edge we find the power button, volume control on the left, on the top is a 3.5-mm headphone jack and on the bottom is a MHL-equipped microUSB interface. Back cover has a main camera equipped with an 8 Mpix backlit sensor, LED flash and a speaker.
On the top of the screen we also find a tri-color notification LED; when the device is being charged it is lit in red, when charging is complete it's lit in green, and if you have unacknowledged notifications, the LED indicates this in a blue color.
Samsung has made a lot of changes to the interface and already when you start the device for the first time you will notice that change is expected as according to the device's "natural and designed for people" theme, the startup sound has changed to be more "organic".
The next change greets you at the lock the screen, which has received changes with a heavy hand; in addition to the old weather and time, the lock screen gives you the opportunity to receive news headlines at the bottom of the screen, in their own expandable space. Unfortunately, the benefits of this from a Finnish point of view is limited, given that, at least in its current version, the software uses the Yahoo! News source, which does not provide any Finnish news headlines. In addition, it is possible to have quick start shortcuts to four optional applications on the lock screen, much like on the devices by a certain three-letter named manufacturer. In addition, one can enter S Voice right from the lock screen, either by saying "Hi Galaxy" or by saying any other user configureable phrase. The unlock effect has changed and taking the place of the former lock and ball is now a dynamic, touch-sensitive, water. Fortunately, all of these features can be switched on or off according to one's will.
For those who want quick access to the camera, but do not like the camera icons, Samsung has added a clever gesture to the lock screen that opens the camera quickly. The gesture consists of tapping the screen with a finger, holding the finger pressed on the screen while tilting the phone into landscape mode.
The desktop is not that different from its predecessor, but Samsung has finally made it so the middle desktop is the main one on the III.
The panel view that makes jumping between desktops easier has gotten the "make this desktop the default desktop" button that is familiar from the newer Galaxy Tabs. With this feature, those who are used to the home screen ordering of the SGS2 can choose to make the first desktop to be the default desktop.
The notification area has also some welcome new features: In addition to the old shortcuts it is now possible to toggle mobile data on and off right from the notification area. In addition, the date now appears in the notification area, the "clear" button has been narrowed and a shortcut key to the phone's settings has been added.
It is now possible to switch the settings to display the battery charge as a percentage in the notification area, which should please those who always enable this feature using a third-party application.
As I mentioned at the beginning, Samsung has retained the menu button on the device, and slightly in violation of the Android 4.0 user interface design, forced the menus to open at the bottom edge of the display. This is actually a good change, since it facilitates the use of the phone with one hand considerably. The missing multitasking button is replaced by holding the home key pressed down.
The pre-installed software consists of: FM radio, Gallery, Game Hub-game store, Gmail, Google + Search, Browser, Calendar, Clock, Camera, Calculator, Latitude, Maps, Music Player, File Manager, Voice Memos, S Suggest app recommendation tool, Samsung Apps, E-mail, Talk, Video Player, Messages, Contacts and Youtube. Samsung has also included instant messenger ChatOn, which recognizes other ChatOn users on the basis of their telephone number and automatically adds them as contacts in the application.
In addition to these, we have the Music Hub, which is unfortunately not available in Finland and AllShare Play, an application that allows your computer to display media content stored on your computer on the phone over the internet, anywhere. Unfortunately, we did not get AllShare Play the desktop application to connect with the phone. Although the app was on our phone, it probably is an unfinished version of the application, so we are going to test this feature again when we get our hands on the device sporting the final version of the software.
Samsung has packed the S-memo application into the device, a familiar app from the Galaxy Note the familiar, which manages small notes with ease. Samsung also sells a separate capacitive C-Pen stylus as an accessory to the Galaxy S III. Those who purchased the Note may however breathe a sigh of relief, because the accuracy is quite a different class (mostly only slightly better than using a finger) and pressure detection is totally absent.
It also comes with Dropbox, and activating it on the phone will be rewarded by 50 gigabytes (or 48, if you're already an existing user) of disk space for two years.
Samsung has also included its own S-Voice speech recognition system, which is capable of a variety of tasks such as scheduling, creating calendar entries, sending text messages, making phone calls and searching for data online.
S Voicella can also take pictures "hands free", as with the S Voice it is possible to unlock the phone, start the camera and trigger the camera by voice control.
Voice control also works elsewhere, for example, it is possible to respond to an incoming call using the command "answer", it is possible to snooze an alarm with "snooze", in the radio and music player it is possible to change the track and adjust the volume with the appropriate commands. Although the above screen capture could conclude that the S Voice would support Finnish, it does not, unfortunately. The above commands are mainly a translator error that will be corrected in the final version of the software. S Voice officially supports German, English, Spanish, French, Italian and Korean.
One of the niftiest reforms is the "Intelligent time-out" (Smart Stay), this feature takes advantage of the front camera and face detection to check if the phone is used, to prevent an automatic shutdown feature of the screen. This feature allows you to drop the "screen off" limit to as low as 15 seconds, because the feature works extremely well. When enabled, the only sign that the phone is looking at you is the flickering eye icon occasionally seen in the notification area. This is a great feature, especially for apps that can not keep the phone awake. This function is also able to monitor whether the user has fallen asleep or whether he/she has put the phone on a table for example, and then a device that has a long "screen off" setting would shut off its display much earlier.
New gestures have also been added in addition to the old familiar ones and the quick start camera gesture mentioned in the beginning of the article. One of them is "direct call", which allows calling the contact displayed on the screen simply by lifting the telephone to the ear. If desired, all the gesture-control systems can be switched off.
Samsung has also enabled mirroring the device wirelessly to the big screen using the AllShare Cast feature, a feature that has of course been directly added to new Samsung TV sets (2012 series), but other devices can have this functionality too using an AllShare Cast dongle. The dongle is connected to your TV to an available HDMI port, and after this, the television is AllShare Cast-compatible. Unfortunately, this feature is not really suitable for gaming because at least using an AllShare Cast dongle, there was discernible lag, evident in the video above.
The video player has also received an update and the Pop Up Play feature allows video to play in a freely movable small window on the screen, making it possible to do other things while watching the video. Pop Up Play also allows the transmission video from the phone to the big screen; AllShare Cast allows you to continue checking e-mail for example, or surfing the web at the same time while the video is running on your TV. In the current software version the Pop Up Play button was however disabled when the phone was connected to AllShare Castiin. The function should be included in the retail version, though. The video player is also able to offer DLNA-devices on the same local area network as an alternative screen automatically, and you don't therefore have to search for them separately.
The Gallery also has face recognition technology, and now the people in the pictures are automatically detected and then it is possible to call or send a message to a person by tapping their face.
1080p video without image stabilization:
1080p video with image stabilization enabled:
The camera has also been given a huge number of improvements and it now includes a real HDR-shooting mode, which takes multiple images and makes them the HDR, a burst mode that records at a whopping 3.3 frames per second, a smile shot mode which automatically takes a picture when the subject smiles and a "beauty" mode, which automatically smoothes skin roughness like in millions of social media images. In addition to these improvements we find an image-sharing mode that allows one-click image sharing with the subjects, because the camera recognizes the facial images of the people being photographed and matches them using your contacts image database. The camera captures 1080p-resolution video of course, and for the first time in a Samsung device we have an image stabilizer for video recording. The image stabilizer also works when the 720p resolution front camera is used.
The camera's panorama function has also been improved, and now when the recording is activated, a preview of the panorama is shown at the bottom of the screen. When the recording ends, the camera renders this preview into a single image.
The Galaxy S III image quality compared to the Note is slightly sharper, the image compression algorithm of the S III has clearly been tweaked. We will publish more examples and image comparisons once we have the final version of the software in our hands.
The burst mode is excellent, especially when capturing fast-moving objects.
On launch day, Samsung releases a series of accessories which have already been mentioned, C Pen and AllShare Cast Dongle, and additionally: TPU plastic protective covers, a desktop docking station with a 3.5 mm audio output, a battery dock, and an MHL-adapter for HDMI output.
Also found in accessories is a Flip Cover case with its own integrated battery cover.
As I already said in my summary of the London announcement event, the Samsung Galaxy S III is an excellent extension of the S-series and even though the hardware has only experienced a small evolutionary step forward, the software side of things has undergone a revolution, thanks to the increased power reserves. This brings the unit to a new level, because the device is also just incredibly smooth and fast. It makes the SGS2 feel and look antique, as well as making my own Note feel slow and rigid, and that device is by no means a snail. Strangely enough, my wallet has begun to feel hot in my pocket, and for the first time in a long time I have felt interest in browsing the online shops of carriers.
During our weekend of testing, I found only one thing to complain about. The capacitive buttons were a little too sensitive, especially when shooting with the camera it was easy to accidentally press them, but this is a problem that can be solved in the software, and it may well be that in the final version, the problem does not exist. For those looking for a new smartphone, SGS III is the number one choice.

The link has something about S Memo, what are they saying?
Was he complaining? Because he looked like he was struggling with it a little.

He wrote that people who own GNote shouldn't worry, because c-pen for sgs3 isn't nearly as accurate. It lacks pressure sensitivity and was just slight improvement over using your fingers.

Just one thing, we are Androidsuomi, eventhough it translates to Androidfinland, and we do indeed have the Androidfinland.fi domain, the sites name should not be translated.
Thank you very much for the effort!

Thanks for the video. Would like to see how well the handwriting recognition works whenever you've got some more time.
A couple of minor points about the video though - there seems to a lot of background noise all throughout the video. The lighting seems to be quite dim as well. But overall, a nice job. Thanks again!
Write a full page of note with equations and what not, please.
As per request I've put together a video for the handwriting recognition. It works very well, but for now there's only support for English.
http://youtu.be/hg0iN2B2yN4
Pretty impressive.
What happens if you write a sentence that is two lines long, does it still recognise it all and show it as a long sentence of text?
Before I filmed I managed to write a paragraph (3-4 lines) at once, but afterwardsI don't know why I couldn't anymore... you could write a lot smaller than I did and a lot more text fits in.
I just tried it again and the thing is you can write as much as you want as long as it's a single sentence, because it not only recognizes the writing, but also tries to understand the meaning to be as precise as possible.

Did you know that there is a better way of utilising handwriting recognition? Use the Samsung Keyboard and keep your s pen on the keyboard icon then slide and select the T icon that has a pen symbol neat to it,the icon is located to the left of the space bar. You will now get a handwriting panel where you can start writing, what you write in this panel is converted to text.
To make things even simpler, go to the settings menu which is also located to the left of the space bar and choose the 'Handwriting' option then select "complete recognition" - Now you will be able to write Long sentences in the handwriting panel and also make corrections on the fly before you commit the writing to the notepad. You can also use gestures to add spaces, insert text etc
It will be good if you can make a video of this type of input as it really shows the capabilities of how notes can be taken very quickly and effectively.
Infrared port demo - http://youtu.be/Ux63IVTSod8 . You can use your Note 10.1 as an remote control with the preinstalled Peel Smart Remote app. It supports a wide variety of brands and product types and if a certain control doesn't work you can customize the code.
I made another video showing the handwriting recognition and the formula match and the shape match. I also took on the advice from HasC (thank you very much!) and showed how you can use handwriting as an input anywhere instead of the keyboard.
In my opinion the formula match works incredibly well! It recognizes all sorts of mathematical symbols and as an engineering student, I'll surely use that a lot!

Google's own one does work however it is not as smooth as the Note. It is also quite slow compared to the Notes pen input and this functionality will be more useful to those who do not own a Note and would like an alternative input method.

Thanks, for the quick response.
One more question, does the remote work with other appliances such as air conditioner A/c ?
How is the battery life with and without WiFi.
tapatalk سے لکھا گیا
As HasC replied, the Google handwriting input works slower because it's online, but it's perfectly compatible with the S Pen.
The remote app (Peel Smart Remote) only works for multimedia devices, but the infrared port is universal. If there are apps in the Play Store designed for A/Cs and so on, it should work just fine.

Not sure about the A/c control, The remote app allows you to pick from a number of manufactures or codes for use on televisions.
The battery life is phenomenal but depends on what you use the tab for. Videos, wifi direct etc. will consume the battery far quicker. Yesterday I was practically on the tablet the whole day browsing with the wifi on continuously and by the evening, I had about 47% juice left. The tablet was running since charging for 17 hours and the screen percentage according to the stats was at 82%.
For what was the screen time. Can you use a battery indicator and post the screen shots of the usage. Long battery time without WiFi means can be used as a paper notebook replacement.
So handwriting recognition doesn't work in each and every app ?
I just saw the verge review, it confirmed why he is know as Apple fanboy. http://mobile.theverge.com/2012/8/15/3244180/samsung-galaxy-note-10-1-review-video
in his review s-pen tool but laggy when using along with a browser window open. Does your do the same ?
He was also writing at quite unusual angles, does it works at such angles?

My screen time was for heavy browsing I have attached a screenshot to demonstrate,
The verge review is a pile of ****, The proof are the videos on this thread. The 0P has demonstrated by intentionally writing badly to show the accuracy of the recognition. I have tried to write at some strange angles when writing this post and the recognition is acceptable bearing in mind people should not be writing at unusual angles when supposedly carrying out professional reviews.
With reference to multitasking on two screens, you need to select the app before trying to use it,this only takes a second to do and activates the app. Even on Windows applications, you need to click on or switch to the application before use , on the Verge review he was just sliding his finger up and down between the two apps and saying it lags, who in the real world will multitask in this manner ?
Thanks but I was looking somethinglike this ?
I don't think even, iPad 3 do true multitasking.
As for handwriting most people won't write at strange or unusual angles while taking notes or in other usual situations.

What kind of info are you looking for? I'm an artist and can verify the experience is very good. The only thing holding this back at all is the sketching software is still young. Hopefully some good devs will latch onto this.

Things you miss after Lollipop update on your Z3

Hi folks, I recently got the update notification and updated my D6603 to Lollipop. I do like Lollipop's new features, but there are a few things I miss from the previous version:
Slide from left to right in the middle to unlock. I used to be able to hold the phone with one hand and slide with my thumb, but now it's from bottom to top. The motion is harder to do, but it's something to get used to.
Remove all from recent apps menu. I cannot find a button to remove all apps in one press. It's not there anymore.
Wishful features/changes:
THE CAMERA! I don't see any improvements on the camera. Still smudgy photos and pink issue with white background, etc. Going through the picture thread is still a disappoint. My hopes for this fix with the update has been lost.
Remove Small apps completely from Recent apps menu. I have never use this and it takes up space on the bottom of the screen, especially when flipping through Recent apps cards. Got this removed, thanks to lu99ke!
That's all I can think of for now. Got yours? Please share!

Hey Hanime
Your wish has been granted!! There is a way to remove small apps from the recent screen - no root required! You just need to be able to run and ADB command ...
I can't post the link but google "remove small apps z3" and you will see a post in the android central forums..
Look for comments on this post as with lollipop, you need to use "hide" instead of block.
See attached pic of it on my phone... Looks HEAPS better.
Cheers

Sound Mode in Quick Settings. I can't mute calls / messages anymore while listening to music as it only affects the media volume.. I would have to go the long way over settings. Is there any work around? Preferably not a widget.
LED notification light in Silent mode
If you switch your phone to silent mode the LED notification light you will not be on If you got a notification.. This not Sony fault
very annoying
Notification bar icons. Not only are they pretty ugly designs but they're also varying in sizes and don't seem to follow any kind of consistent theme.

I noticed the physical camera button opens the camera app with a chime sound now. I turned it off via the camera settings (Sound = Off), but it still chimes. The touch version opens the camera silently. Anybody know how to turn the chime off?
Also, on the lock screen, it says "No Service" even when I have service. And it continues to say so until a good restart or when I download the "Internet Settings" again. Normally, it should show my carrier, T-Mobile. Anyone having this issue?
My Xperia with Facebook app does not work. I have it and had put my FB account but when I want to share a picture there is no opiton to use "Xperia with Facebook"

Moto X Pure Dislikes pure Android, Looking for ideas

So I am coming from the Samsung Galaxy S5 and have found Samsung actually does some things that make sense.
Since the Moto has the "Pure Android Experience" things are a lot different and seems more complected or lacking the user friendly experience.
This is a list of things I am having problems with, If anyone has a resolution, PLEASE chime in, Thank You,
Now just to be clear, Motorola seems to have made a very nice, High Quality Phone, All of my issues/dislikes are on the software side of things. I would say the build quality is on par with Samsung and other top tier phones
No way to set music as my alarm clock, there is no option to set a song as my alarm I have installed rocket player but it does not show up under "use different app" Zedge is the only option
No real "quick settings" need to pull down top of screen twice, then hit data button, then turn on/off data. 3 steps needed to turn on/off data. Samsung pull down once and hit the mobile data switch and your done
Text message notifications, stock text message app only shows when you have a unread message on the lock screen, no blinking LED on the phone an no unread message count overlayed on the message app icon. Samsung message app has both. I am using Textra app now, still no better for missed texts but at least I can change themes to dark.
Phone dialer, when opened shows your starred contacts not the dialer number pad, cannot find a way to open the dialer directly to number pad, need to make 2 steps now to dial a number
No Restart option when power button is pressed, only shut down
Two other annoying finds,
I have found the flashlight chop action is more frustrating then using the flashlight icon switch. I can only get the flashlight to turn on once in about 10 tries, same to shut off.
21 meg camera setting, Rather disappointing that the only way to take advantage of the 21 meg setting is to have it in 4:3 ratio. WTH, who uses 4:3 ration anymore, everything is now 16:9 4:3 ration is dead anf has been for a long time.

Here's a suggestion that might help with the chop-chop flashlight function:
Instead of a "chopping motion" as suggested, try this:
While holding your moto X (screen off), give it a firm double handshake.
This works 100% of the time for me. The trick seems to be giving the phone an straight up-and-down motion (just like a handshake) instead of a pivoted "chopping" motion.
Let me know if it helps...

Thanks for the tip, that does seem to be a lot better. almost 100% on/off, probably just need to get more practice at it. Moto shows the chopping motion instead of the hand shake up/down motion.
I found Textra text app to cure my text issues once I setup everything in the settings menu.
two things off my list, a few to go.
Thanks again for tip
I have a better suggestion... Go back to your samsung.
Why on earth should motorola go back to the days of moto blur? I read your opinion, imo...motorola and lenovo should carry on with what they're doing. Majority of people buying the new motos, desire stock or closer to stock as aosp.
Why doesn't motorola make software like samsung, blah blah blah. You want to change something? Change your own and leave mine alone.

I was expecting a few Flame replies like. Haters gonna Hate!
Quote my text here I said I want Moto to use Samsung software!
I found the answer to my text issues by finding a 3rd party text app. Maybe instead of posting a flame, you could have posted something constructive like samwathegreat did. Maybe suggest a 3rd party app to achieve what I am looking for.
I have been around here actually helping people a lot longer then you have or probably will be. If your not part of the solution, you are part of the problem, Go flame somewhere else and be part of the problem there!
Anyway to resolve your issues with the mobile data toggle and functionality in general I highly suggest Xposed + GravityBox. You can set it up so that pulling from a particular side of screen immediately opens your quick toggles and you can also set it up so that one press on the signal indicator shuts off data instead of opening the menu. The way I have mine set right now, if I swipe from the left I get quick toggles, from the center my notifications and I have an app called Snap Swipe drawer that pulls down from the right and allows me to have quick access to any widget I choose. Really great for adding additional toggles for your own personal apps. For example I have a toggle in there that allows me to stream any system audio directly to my in home DLNA receivers with one click. Also GravityBox will resolve your dialpad issue as well as there is a setting to make so the dialpad opens first, and also there is an option for to add a restart menu option into the power menu as well.

Nice, thanks for that info. I did use Xposed years ago when I had my rooted HTC phones, IT was a great app back then. I never rooted my Samsung phones, to much of a pain with the Knox BS.
I need to look into rooting methods. Hoping they have a one click root method, So easy that way. I remember Xposed could change the signal icon colors to make it easier to read which I loved.
Thanks for the post!

Well because camera sensors have 4:3 aspect ratio (generally). To have a 21mpixel 16:9 ratio the sensor would have to be more like 30 mpixel.
Sincerely I would prefer a higher quality sensor for low light conditions over a high mpixel sensor. My Sony Nex-5N is "only" 16Mpixel but has a APS-C sensor that is way larger than any sensor put on a cellphone and will provide better IQ even under low light conditions.

The notification is the moto display. It comes on when new notification and you can just wave your hand over the screen to see if you've missed anything. No need for flashing light. No read message count can be added through Nova Launcher (as well as others I'm sure.). Not sure I know a whole lot of people who use dialer. Either you have people you call often (favorites) or if calling a business you would be able to call from maps/Google search with call button. I'm sure there's other ways of making a song for your alarm. Just so you're aware and I'm not flaming, but this is why it's called Pure edition. Its basically a nexus with software additions that you can disable. I feel some of the "issues" you're having could be resolved with a few searches, and are also quite frankly a bit nit-picky. Don't go from Samsung to Motorola and expect them to be the same. Each have there own positives and caveats. If you are unhappy with moto, then before your change manufacturers, maybe you should do some research.
I did a lot of reading about this phone first and was ready for a change. Im just looking for solutions to the things that I was use to having on my phones in the past
Im not looking to dis or put either on a pedestal, Sorry If may have come off that way. With android almost anything is possible, you just need to find the right app.
I must not have something set right, the only thing I see when I have my hand over the phone is the time, I dont see missed text or emails until I swipe to the home screen.
Thanks
I agree with the LED light for notification issue. Moto Display is overly sensitive and being an LCD over AMOLED, uses more battery.
If you could program Moto Display to work only when you have a notification so that it doesn't turn itself off with the most minute shake of the phone it would be a different issue.
I hope I'm not late. You can do the traditional method for music alarms... Download any file manager (I recommend Cabinet) and drop whatever music you want into the "Alarms" folder.
