I hope someone can help me.
I am having a problem with the browser on stock Android 3.2.
Whenever, I go onto a website (e.g. Facebook) and press on a text entry box, it does not pop up the onscreen keyboard, but rather reloads the page. If i press again on the text entry box, the onscreen keyboard pops up. This happends on every text box. I have a even bigger problem with the browser than that.
If i click on a link, it takes me to the link, either on the first time i press on it or the second time in most cases. If i then press on a link on the newly opened page, it automatically takes me back to the previous page, instead of going where the link indicated. It is as if the tablet has a mind of its own.
I have tried Dolphin browser, and it seems to be doing the exact same thing. I do have a screen protector on, however, i doubt it could have any thing to do with what the tablet is doing? Or can it?
I really hope someone can help, cos I basically cannot use the tablet for browsing, at this stage. :crying:
Thank you in advance

I noticed that in the stock ( and actually also any other browser ) browser when you hit the back button , it will display the previous page but from the top of it and not where you actually where. That's quite annoying especially when clicking a link in the middle of a very long page.

Mine goes back to where I had been at.
So does mine.
Hmm, now you make me nervous. If I hit the back button the browser will go back to the previous page and for few seconds ( until it finishes to load the page ) it will show it to the exact point where I left it. But then the page will be scrolled all the way up to the very top of it.
Please confirm that I am the only one.

Mine does it too. What's annoying is that when I go to another app then back to the browser...it loads the previous page I was on instead of the page I left.
Why don't you long press and open in new tab/window?
Then you definitely know where you were, and can continue browsing through the link without losing your page/place.
Anyone else try out these slide-out browser quick controls?
I 'love' them. I turned them on a few days after getting the tab and havent looked back.
How about you?
To enable this feature for the stock browser go to settings - labs - quick controls and make sure the box it ticked. Now in the browser, slide in from the side and a wheel of sorts will pop out with all your controls.
Very slick feature.
I have been using them since day one. Love it.
Yes, they're handy once you get the hang of them.
Very nice, thanks for sharing that tip!

Where is this? Dont have an entry for "labs" under "settings"?
Settings in the browser, not general setting on the tablet. Top right corner in the browser.
I think it actually comes enabled by default on the Xoom; needless to say it was refreshing to see when I first started using the tablet. Using the menu in the upper right hand corner is not as user friendly.
The only thing I have noticed is that it is difficult to initiate controls with the acer case, because the edge comes right up to the screen. I usually have to attempt the gesture a couple of times in order for the controls to come up.

I've never had that problem. Simply slide your finger 'into' the screen, from the bezel. Works like a charm every time and I love how it appears at the exact position your finger made the sliding motion into the page, rather than a single static location.
If I had one feature request, it would be 1 more button you could use to hold it as a handle to slide the wheel up or down the side, and tap it to pin it or unpin it.
Heh - didn't even know this existed until I saw this thread. Not sure I like it though - I usually close the last tab to close the browser (since back makes you step through all pages viewed and home would leave it open.)

How do you close the browser with last tab? The tab disappears and browser turns full screen everytime specially when there's only one tab left. I find it hard to bring the tab to appear again.

funny I know... I open up a new blank one... close the last one and then hit the back button to close the whole thing out... he he... I woudn't mind if the tabs were up there all thetime or use a quick menu to pop it up and down...
You can actually just do a long press on the webpage and it will bring up the tabs at the top, then you can close them.

That's how I do it right now, but sometimes it selects the text for copy/paste instead of displaying the tab. You really have to find an empty spot on the browser page to make it work. Adding a new tab and closing, then closing the last tab requires a really fast finger to catch the last tab. Sometimes I'm slow to click on the last tab and it just hides again. How I wish the default browser has an option to exit, similar to Dolphin browser.
Why the desire to have an exit, to hide the porn your surfing?
Keeping the browser in memory is useful, because that is alot of what I use this thing for.

Yep, I turned them on the first day I got mine. Love 'em!
not rooted and on the latest update
Ive noticed that there are times when i hit the back button on the browser, it will take me back 2 pages instead of the previous page.
Say for example im on google's home page. I look something up, find and click a link.. once i hit the back arrow (either on the browser app or tablet arrow), it will take me all the way back to the google home page..
anyone notice this before? am i missing an option?
thanks
First let me tell you that this has been going on for a long time. I first had trouble on latest stock ROM. I factory reset it and still had problems. So I just now switched to Paranoid Android because I thought it was my ROM that was broken since it happens on all browsers except for Chrome. It still is happening in the default browser that came with Paranoid Android.
Here is what is happening.
I go to any page on the web that has a multi-line text box. I try to start one with text already in it, like by quoting somebody on a forum. I start by highlighting a word and copying it. Then if there's text in the box I place the cursor between any two letters. Then I click the handle/cursor until paste comes up, and right after I do, the cursor will move somewhere like in the middle of the next line or lower. This happens even before i hit paste. If I use the copy command like in thumb keyboard by assigning paste to a function key, sometimes it overwrites text to the left or right of the cursor. This stuff happens with any keyboard including stock android keyboard. Sometimes I'll be typing text and then backspace stops working. Sometimes when that happens I have to click with my finger somewhere if I want to change something. But sometime that doesn't even work. Sometimes I will paste text at the bottom of the quoted text and the text will magically somehow be pasted at the top. This happens often. This only happens in browsers. I've tried stock, boat browser, dolphin. It happens in all of them. This is all repeatable for the most part. I'm at my wits end. Does anyone know what I can try? Is my nexus 10 broken? It seems like a software issue, but I don't know how since I've wiped everything and started over.
Any help appreciated. Anyone who can fix this I'll buy a beer.

Anyone know whats wrong when chrome almost always opens new page as blank, it starts to load, then it just show blank page?
If you click on screen the page is in background and if you click in right place it opens links etc.
Only way to display page correctly is to press home button and open chrome again, then page shows up correctly.
Really annoying bug and happens many times a day! (tried both, normal and beta chrome)
[EDIT] this bug is not rom/phone related, my wifes nexus 5 with different rom has this too...

Yeah, same thing happening here. Also you can swipe left/right on the address bar, to change tab, and go back to "blank" one, now it will show correctly.
This start happening i think before 2 updates.
Though I haven't found anything about that bug. I tried cleaning both, data and cache, with no help.
Been getting it a lot lately, not sure if it was a chrome update or the fact I've been dirty flashing custom roms lately.
I was so mad with this bug, that i tried clean flash, and first page i tried to open was empty... :|
Fun fact, happens alot on the desktop version, atleast for me but I think it has to do with flash.
It's down to chrome itself, not the rom.
If I remember correctly, I had it even while using 4.4.2, now I'm on 4.4.3
As I mentioned, bug was here from last 2 or 3 chrome update.
Also, I don't have this problem in chrome on my pc.
