[GUIDE] Restore hd2 back to wm6.5 with broken volume buttons - HD2 General

I would like to announce that the hd2 that have the volume buttons broken can be repaired. This guide has to be taken with caution as it may create a nuclear explotion. This will only work if using magldr, as it will boot by it self when connected to USB.
Requirements:
USB
Computer
Hd2 ruu
t-6 screw driver
- screwdriver
The first thing is to dissassemble the hd2 completely

2nd is to get something that can hold the LCD and digitizer up.
3rd, connect the motherboard and camera flex cable together together and don't close the flex cable connection
4th, connect the LCD
Now a USB
Next the battery by put tape to hold it the motherboard so it can make contact with it.
Now, we need the computer ready to flash oem Ruu, connect hd2 to computer and with a - screwdriver connect the first 2 pins at the mother, before it boots.
Only blue and yellow
It will enter tri-color screen and now it can be flashed.
Once flashed disconnect USB and take off battery of hd2 carefully and assemble back.
And that is how u go back to windows mobile.

Nice work my friend, one suggestion though you may want to put guide in the thread title. This might help get better traffic to your thread

Thanks for a tip man

Nice tip. Hope I don't have to use it.

Hi stevediaz,
Why do you say it will only work using magldr?? I have an HTC HD2 with the ribbon/flex cutted. I would replace the main flex but would like to be sure that everything is working before trying to replace it. I can't boot the HTC (it doesn't gets past the white splash screen with the htc logo) because the volume buttons aren't working. It got bricked when I tried to flash it with android after the "task29". I believe never installed magldr. Can I still get to the bootloader using your method and try to install windows or anything else?
Best regards,
calcaneo

There are several reasons for hanging at the HTC splash screen, lots of them recoverable if you can get into bootloader and manipulate menus, so its definitely worth you giving this a try.

If magldr isn't installedis not the bad, u can still. Restore aslong as it does work, but It will be harder cuz u will need the power button connected and it I harder but u will need helping u to restore it to windowsmobile. I am already working on a guide to install clk and magldr to install wp8 or android without the volume buttons.

Recovery os not working

So guys i find out that the intern recovery os not working correct.
Thats what i did:
Time ago i installed some Open touch rom, but after that my Herald stuck in Open Touch screen, than i flashed orig. HTC German Rom, an it stucks in HTC screen, now i flashed orig. VODAFONE WIN6.0 GER Rom and it stuck by the Vodafone logo.
Doing Hardreset, it asks in english, but the rom is german.
Can someone help me???
Specifications:
HERA10000
IPL: 4.14.0001
SPL: 4.14.0000
CID locked (VODAP102)
USB Connection to PC (XP) works, but no Activ Sync Connection, I tried several things (goldcard, orig. Rom), but nothing will change the probs.
Can I change the intern recovery OS??? Well i think this is corrupted.
Thanks for Helping answers, I will donate to the guy who can help me....
no one can help me???
there is no such thing as a recovery os on htc devices there is only the rom

i´ve read since the last 5 days every post and thread of this forum about how to flash HTC Herald and so on, but didn´t found anything.
It is CID locked, couldn´t flash anymore. with goldcard methode it works but then it stocks in the splash screen.

Put the phone into bootloader mode again and try to flash again. If it fails, create a gold card. You can't hardSPL unless windows mobile boots.
What were you flashing that you got a white screen? The HardSPL?
DoC is the hardware level Flash Memory. Don't mess with it.
to get the white screen i try to flash the stock rom, if vodafone screen was shown.
in bootloader mode i can flash only one rom, the stock rom...if this done...it stuck again in the vodafone screen...couldn´t create goldcard, because i have no second win mobile device, any other way to create a goldcard??
thx

Yes, try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=485364 but with the Herald instead of Dream.
Is the stock ROM a vodafone ROM?
If the stock ROM is flashing properly but not booting properly, it might be a hardware issue.
yes the stock rom is a vodafone rom...
you mean that it is dead...:-(
i got some win mobile device tomorrow, than i try the goldcard method...if this is not working i give it up and throw it away....
thanks
so i tried it several times with a goldcard, but it goes everytime in bootloader...what should i do now???

Anyway, there's an alternative way to access bootloader, off the phone, hold the left and right soft key , and while those 2 keys are being pressed, push the on button
Karhoe thanks for your fast reply
Thanks for your fast reply
when I press the 2 soft keys with the power button, a message appears to hard reset my device
I have done this several times, and when i do I see the following screen and nothing happens after that
"press 0 to restore factory defaults other keys to quit."
I thought that the bootloader was that screen with three colours
anyway, I'm stuck with this screen.

Could I access the phone through COM ports, since mtty com ports are always availabe, and if this is possible, what's the name of the required cable?

What a weekend!!!!

Thanks to Android coming out I had a pretty rough weekend. I had Android running on my Fuze and enjoyed playing with it from time to time. I though I would give it a try since they have made some large jumps in the last few weeks. So I downloaded several version and got them all to run but none would connect even when the APN's were set. I figured it might be something to do with the radio version I was running. Decided to change out the radio for a different one and that's when it started. Grabbed the phone plugged it in found a radio version I wanted in my folder and dropped it on the SD card and renamed it LEOIMG to flash it. Turned off the phone went into bootloader , it popped up the "are you sure screen" at which point I paused thought about it and almost canceled. Instead I went ahead and hit ok, it went into the white screen with the words "loading......".

It never made it any further. Never made it to the progress bar. After a good while I pulled the battery and started it back up. Phone would start and a black screen would come up with a warning saying "Software Update Failed"
Well that's not good, lol. Pull the battery again put it into bootloader to see what happens..
Not good either. So I drop the SD in again, pull the battery again, try changing the radio, rom, you name it and going back into bootloader. All the while getting the same message " Upgrade ROM code error". Never getting past that screen. I tried doing several Task 29's , MTTY with task 29, nothing worked.
Oh did I mention that I use the HD2 for tethering right now and is my only internet? Ya so I had to drop the SIM into my Fuze to atleast have a phone and some type of slow internet in edge......ughhhh.
So today for some reason I had the idea to put the phone into bootloader and try to apply HSPL again. It detects the phone reapplies the HSPL and goes into the white HTC boot screen and freezes there. Some success !!!! From there I drop a radio onto the SD card and flash it, boots up to the white HTC boot screen no further. Ok go and put a ROM on the SD card and flash that. Boom.......boots up and loads the ROM and runs as it should.
That sucked hard....thought the phone was going to have to be sent in all the while with having a custom rom and HSPL on it...duh. That would have sucked to explain. I knew I had a chance since it was still going into bootloader and finally got it. Though now looking at the picture I posted it would seem the radio I tried to flash first might have changed the HSPL which lead to the whole issue.
Sorry to hear that you bricked your phone.. may I ask what radio version did you flash?
flash the stock rom and see what happends.
You guys missed the last bit where I said I got it up and running again. Currently right back to where it was with the latest NRG MaxSense ROM.

Could be the rom, could be the hardware, could be the radio.

Process of elimination.
Flash the stock rom and double check your required spl/radio combination.
If it still doesn't work then it's hardware.
If it does then it's either the rom or the radio.
Good luck.

That would be the problem. I'm sure of it. Then again... if you had no radio then I fail to see how your phone is even booting. You're probably using a rom that is incompatable with the radio that you have installed. What rom are you using?
Reboot to bootloader (power and volume down) and tell us everything that you see on the screen.
You might want to take the sdcard out first so you don't accidently flash anything.
thanks for the reply, when I restart and press volume down and power button I get message and its says factory mode and there is a few options mainly testing hardware also clear flash and that's it, when I posted the results I can see under heading of bootloader said N/A, I have tried many times to load different ROM but just can't I used ROM manager and followed other ways shown on these forums but for some reason this phone is stubborn and can't modify it

Was it a white screen or colorful?
We need the SPL version, radio version, S-ON or S-OFF etc.

[Q] can't boot hd2 after flex cable replaced

I wasn't sure where to PST this but I got an HD2 from a friend that had clockwork recovery and a miui Rom already installed. I resoldered the charge port and it worked fine. But I ripped the volume buttons off the the flex ribbon cable. I replaced it with a new one and now the phone will not boot int a ROM. I can get into the recovery manager and the other menus and even flash a ROM but it al not boot.
I downloaded the latest miui ROM .1.10.21, 2.3 and it gets about 4/5 of the way through the flash and then ends abruptly and says installation complete. when its flashing, I see the radio zip 2.15.50.14 and the ROM. The radio is 1st and it appears to flash but it seems not to complAfter ete during the ROM flash.
After the reboot it takes a while to boot and I eventually get a lock screen in Chinese, but the screen is unresponsive. It shows some moving graphics but unresponsive when touching. I left it alone for about an hour and still nothing - screen on but black and it will occasionally cosecha true boot screen again.
So do you all think its the flex cable? It worked fine (even with the broken one) before replacing it. Please excuse me if this should have gone in a different forum.

You are missing the point, the idea of trying another rom is to see if your issue might be hardware related.

Somehow i knew you would be the first to point out this thread is not posted in the right forum
As for shawndh
1) IF you can boot any rom with your previous flex cable then IT is the new flex cable problem
2) IF you have brought the wrong flex cable depending on your HD2 type, then it might be the flex cable. (HD2 has two variants. EU and T-Mobile) I hope you brought the correct cable.
3) ELSE your mainboard has somehow damaged on suddenly short-circuiting through the NEW flex cable.
Sorry, no offence!

Thanx for clarifying that about the flex cables. Well, I found out I have a new issue. It seems the 2nd MIUI ROM I flashed did actually work. The issue is that the touch screen has now become unresponsive. I have no idea what made it stop working though. The digitizer and LCD have never been separated and the connection to the motherboard is good - no damage to the flex cables either.
I noticed it when i flashed the stock t-mobile WinMob ROM on the phone. The phone flashed fine and booted up. But I could not unlock the lock screen. This phone is a real PAI! So I'm going to start another thread about that. Thanx.
push end button hardly to fix this issue temprorary, most probably your end button is rying to kill your digitizer :S
