landscape on default launcher - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, just got a nexus 7 today and disappointed that the default launcher doesn't support landscape ( unless I'm being stupid!! ) so I've had to use apex but it don't seem as smooth as the default launcher .... so is there a ROM close to stock that supports landscape on the home screens? This isn't normally a top priority but this tab Is to go in my car so portrait just don't work, Also having the notification bar at the bottom is a preference but not a top priority, And would be nice to have toggles in the noti bar like in OAKP,
Thanks in advance and for any help
Steve

there a simple build.prop edit to make the homescreen auto rotate, all you do is add this line to your build.prop and reboot.. launcher.force_enable_rotation=true

Nova launcher rotate to landscape and it's smooth and fast. No root or modified is required.

Use this with stock launcher
"Set Orientation" - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.eyesfree.setorientation

Where in the build.prop should I add this? At the bottom of Additional_Build_Properties list or somewhere specific?

I'd like to know if this is possible too.
Set Orientation https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.eyesfree.setorientation
Pull down the notification bar and press the screen with spinning arrows icon, it will change to a padlock once it's pressed.
I have my DPI set to 160 which puts it in tablet mode, and still the lockscreen is only in portrait. I don't want an app that locks the orientation because I'm still about 50/50 on using portrait and landscape.

The Set Orientation app lets you set it to auto, the lockscreen will rotate with the tablet.
This does work. However I use widgetsoid in the notifications drawer, and with screen krien. enabled, I can't adjust brightness. Just and fyi, but figured someone else must use this combo as well. The screen orien. also makes some apps tough to use in landscape, such as songza.

if you have root, add this to your build.prop file in /system/build.prop/ and reboot.. launcher.force_enable_rotation=true

You could also flash a ROM like Paranoid Android which gives you control over what interface each app uses like phone, phablet, and tablet. This is probably not the solution you were looking for, but you did say any way to make the lock screen rotatable.

Thanks for the info, but after some days I have uninstalled the app as it has been the reason for short screen-freezes every x seconds which was kind of annoying.
CM10 supports lock screen rotation.

Ultimate Rotation Control.
I use Ultimate Rotation Control. It rotates everything, including the lockscreen, & has different settings.

Nexus 4 permanent full screen (no on screen buttons)

Hey,
Does anyone know if it's possible to remove the on screen buttons on the nexus 4?
You can do it on the last nexus, and by using a gesture be able to get them to show up.
Kinda sucks that the nexus 4 has a 4.7inch screen, but usable size (unless watching videos) is only around 4.4inches.
On parandroid Rom you have the option to expand the screen, will serve for you!

Can use LMT which either allows you to use swiping gestures for command input (such as on screen button actions) or pie (gesture creates a half circle on side of screen with buttons). Once you have that, you can use the fullscreentoggle apk (both apps are on XDA, just Google) and remove the buttons. Works great for me for the most part. Had a few cases where LMT crashed and I had to reboot the phone due to not being able to back out of an app to restart LMT.
You need root for these as well.
How u gonna go home or go back if u don't have those buttons? Just curious?

Cyanogenmod has the ability to do it too by accessing the power menu and selecting 'Expanded Desktop'

With a gesture.
See it here:
youtube.com/watch?v=stDR9_fANBY
You can use the full screen toggle app which works on stock rooted rom. It's not in the market.
Here's the apk:

'Button savior' works too, just make sure to install it before using the full screen toggle app and rebooting:silly:
Or just do it yourself by going to system/build.prop using Root Explorer and add this to the very end and save (and reboot):
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1

What is this command line use for ?
Auto hide the screen buttons ?
On parandroid pressing the power button you have the option,so its not a problem...
Is there a way to just make the buttons transparent but still usable?
Try GMD gesture control!
I'm using it since my galaxy s3.
I was searching for the same answer and tripped over this by mistake actually. There is an gesture to turn the status bar off. I was just messing around with the gestures a bit and when I used the status bar gesture suddenly the on screen buttons disappeared with the status Bar. Was really pleasantly surprised!

Removing clock on lockscreen

Hi,
I would like to know if there is a way to remove the clock that i see on my lockscreen?
Am not rooted and using default launcher
Thnaks for your help

With default stuff, you can't.
So then which launcher should i use in order to modify only the lockscreen?
Is this possible? Am used to default launcher, i dont mind some change to fix my lockscreen but i'd like to keep the rest of my phone/home/buttons as default as possible.
Thanks again for your help
sent from my tab 10.1 using xda app and my fingers
In cm10.1, for example , you can change the lockscreen options, and get rid of the clock widget.

Sure you can. If you actually mean luck screen and not status bar. Expand to full size, long press that "frame" and drag it to the trash.

Since you're rooted you can use autohide soft keys from the Play Store. It hides the Nav bar and you activate it by swiping up from the bottom. It takes ten minutes to get used to it. And while you're at it..You can hide the status bar on a per app base with the app settings module. You have to install the xposed framework first (and put the uninstaller on your sd, search it here on xds). You can then activate the status bar on swipe with smart status bar from the store.
Might take a while to set up this from scratch, but you end up with a screen without any buttons or bars as long as you don't call them. You asked for the transparent Navbar, I recommend the invisible one. See Screenshot to see what my nova settings, my browser (and every other app on my phone) look like, with bars hidden and bars called.

Its a wallpaper that comes with the G2. When you select a wallpaper, you can choose it as an option for where you want to get your wallpaper for.
I can confirm this works for me as well. Im using Action Launcher, and the status bar is transparent when i use Multi-Wallpaper.
the aicp rom for verizon phones does this. its awesome. not sure if its avail for tmo.

Did you mean "multi-photo" mode to set wallpaper? I've tried it on Apex Launcher but the navigation bar didn't become transparent [and yes I've enabled transparent bar in the display setting already]. Am I missing something here?
