Windows7.8 Rom and Internet connection sharing - Omnia 7 General

I'm posting this here rather than in the thread with the rom in stickied at the top because I don't have the correct privileges. (presumably because it was moved from a developer forum)
I managed to get an Omnia Seven unbranded from Virgin (for free - long story) and have been using it with a 3 sim in.
I have never been able to use the Internet Connection Sharing feature. After a few long searches on the internet I found that other 3 users had ICS but not me and I set about trying to find out why. Eventually I realised it's becasue my device is unbranded so I then set about trying to find out how to brand it with a 3 rom. This led me to several different site of which this was one. After careful deliberation (about 5 mins  ) I decided to try an flash a 3 ROM I found onto the phone. When looking for a guide I got cold feet and decided against it until I found the 7.8 thread and it appeared that some people had already flashed this ROM so I thought why not.
Long story short - it works, it works great.
AND I now have Internet Connection Sharing. I'd give it a 10/10 for success.

Where did you get 7.8 rom for omnia 7, can you insert the link please?

I'd like a good 7.8 ROM too.
Real Internet Connection Sharing like the old Windows Mobile used to have?

umm In the thread entitled the start of the 7.8 roms.
It contains a link to...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896299
I used that one.

I'm not sure what you mean by real? It allows me to set my phone as a wireless hotspot. I think it's actually called internet sharing rather than internet connection sharing. It's just I've been trying to get it for so long I got rather over excited.

WM6 (Helmi) -- Lost Internet Ability

I see there are a few versions of WM6 here and, not being very technical myself, I quickly became confused about which OS I should try next...
I loaded the WM6 Helmi upgrade and, while the system is running quite well, I am no longer able to connect to the Internet on my SX66. My AT&T bill says otherwise, but I continue to get the following error no matter what settings or CABs I try:
"The answering modem has disconnected. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings."
I spent an hour or so on the phone with AT&T (US). Spoke/conducted tests with their tech support and then their advanced tech support and the only thing they could determine is that I may have corrupted the connectivity ability with the new OS.
Is there another WM6 upgrade on the site that may be better suited to my situation/phone/service than the one I already used? Also, I have Vista at home & XP at work. Which PC should I attempt the suggested upgrade from? (I've been seeing mention of only using XP and want to be sure I am correct.)
Thanks so much for the help, everyone. I really love my SX66 and would hate to have to buy a new phone just to regain the Internet.

Debbie,
Try this one (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=390862). I have been using it for almost a month now without too many problems (internet connectivity seems ok, but then again I do not have GPRS/EDGE). Other than that, this rom seems to do pretty well.
One other tip that I may have for you, if you truly want blazing fast internet on your phone, look in the "development and hacking" forums for a browser called NetFront CF3.5. I believe that it is in beta stage, but I have been using it for about 2 weeks and it is unbelievably fast. It renders the pages really fast, downloading files is a lot faster than PIE, and the best thing is that it renders full pages (kinda like opera, but not as heavy on system resources). The best part is that you can install it in your SD card (if you have one), so you can save some precious rom space...
I hope this helps and good Luck!

Drivers for USB tether

Tried USB tethering for the first time today and I was pleased with how quickly it set up and worked.
Now, I have HTC sync installed as this is my main PC, but does anyone know the set of driver files needed for Windows to pick up the Hero as a modem?
I'd like to pop them on the SD card to allow me to enable internet access on anyone's PC or laptop without installing full HTC sync.
If you've a default set up, the NDIS drivers can be found in c:\Program Files\HTC\HTC Driver\Driver Files.
Regards,
Dave
Thanks but it only has the drivers there for Vista x64 (my OS), I really need drivers for XP and Vista x86 too
Odd - when I installed it here on W7 x86, I get both 32-bit and 64-bit driver directories. If you can, I suggest you install on a 32-bit installation to get the driver files.
Regards.
Dave
Hello everyone,
This is one of my first post/reply here, so before anything thank you very much to all here for sharing such good infos.
I've tried to setup my Hero for use as USB Modem as well, but can not find the "HTC Remote NDIS Network Adapter" driver either. Reading on different forums it seems it used to be on the memory card shipped with the device, but I bought mine 4 days ago and the file isn't there now. HTC has probably changed policy regarding this. Can anyone point me to where I could download this file to install on my lapto using Vista.
Thank you very much.
You can download HTC sync direct from HTC's website. It contains all the necessary software and drivers, and is a later version than the one that shipped with the Hero (at least when mine was shipped anyway!).
Regards,
Dave
u got it to work with the default program in htc sync??? i thought it doesnt work..i tried and i got an error
Works fine for me.
Regards,
Dave
do u happen to have sprint service? im getting a username/password issue...i know its not the wrong info because i can get online fine without tethering..... im reading at many other places that sprint doesnt have it working yet??
No, mine is not a Sprint Hero. It is possible that Sprint have disable this option.
You might want to try PDAnet to see if that works with a Sprint Hero (see http://www.junefabrics.com/android/index.php )
Regards,
Dave
thanks dave..yea pdanet does work, i havnt yet tried it because its a trial version and u have to pay for it...i came from windows mobile where tethering was super easy to do and the apps were plentiful.... but it seems the android market doesnt have tethering ..... i rely on tethering alot for when im traveling, i thougth the android market wouldnt be a problem with tethering apps..but it seems im wrong
The GSM Hero support tethering out of the box - therefore the issue is not Android, but more likely a restriction your carrier has imposed!
First things first though - check to see if you have "Mobile Network Sharing" in Menu->Settings->Wireless Controls.
Regards,
Dave
yes, i have the mobile network sharing... i even install the drivers for tethering fine... im getting a error 67 saying that my usrname and password for my internet is not valid.... although i can go on my internet normally via my phone only...i cannot connect a usb to it from my laptop.... right after i connect it, the internet disconnects from the phone then i get an error.... you are right about sprint blocking it.... but theyve been blocking it since windows mobile...people got around it with a simple app which came with all the hacked roms.... it seems like an issue here with the sprint android.... but maybe its still new?

Yes it is still very new. As with WinMo, you need a hacked ROM, but these aren't available yet for the Sprint Hero as it's only just been released. Once you've got a rooted ROM on your device, you should be able to use wireless wifi tether - the meantime, PDAnet is probably your best bet.

Dave

Hd2 Telstra ROM 1.72.841.0 (82124)

Hi All
I need some help with my HD2.
Today I upgraded from stock rom to latest as version as on HTC website
I can't recall old version, anyway I am having an issue with this radio version which is 2.07.51.22_2
My exchange activesync keeps disconnecting, so my emails are arriving 3-4 minutes later.
I guess my question is?
Can i go back to older radio version without flashing, or worse case scenario could i downgrade to older rom?
I need some help guys.
Thanks
I am downloading now... Will try when down.
I cannot help you there, but have you tried sending a SMS? did you get a stupid notification of message being sent? I am trying to figure out a way to deactive.... No luck yet, waiting for HTC response
As for the Data sync I have had no issue as yet. I have found it a tad more reliable than 1.49. But I have only done a whole 2 hrs of testing

What a pain, so yours work ok, do you use activesync with an exchange server?
That's where my problem is.
It disconnects every few minutes, which obviouslyconsumes more battery power.
As for the sms sent notification I dont mid it.
I may downgrade to original rom, is it safe?
Thanks

Sorry I should have clarified. I link mine with my Exchange 2010 Server. I am getting emails as wanted.
That said I still can't sync SMS. Which is soemthing HTC is looking at and I haven't heard back in a while. I should email them to chase them up.
Hmm, I may try a hard reset tomorrow then.
Thanks

Hi there, having exactly the same issue, did you find a solution to this other than changing out the ROM? Greatly appreciate your posts.
Telstra ROMS on HD2 are stuffed!
I've heard from a mate who works in Telstra ROM development that the HD2 images are not fully tested.. and therefore go to market with communications flaws.. eg every time you try and sync your mail or use as a shared internet device it struggles as the radio version is substandard to the rest of the Image.
Do yourselves a favour.. HSPL it... Find one of the wonderful roms that the guys/gals on here do.. and you will love using the hardware you have purchased. The HD2 is so powerful and should not be ruined by Telstra's lame attempt at a ROM.
Seems they have put way more effort into the Android ( desire ) but its still no HD2.

Yep fixed it, apologies forgot to post solution for my issue.
After trying reflashing with new ROM, downgrading to old ROM and still having same issue, that's right after downgrading...
It clicked, see I bought device and started using activesync after about 2 months.
Before that, I had an issue with my 3G internet connection not working at all.
Weather updates, internet access, hotmail emails etc.
To fix that other issue I had to create a new internet connection.
By the time I got to use activesync I had a new internet connection, I was not using stock telstra connection.
Therefore to fix on new ROM version I created a new connection, and magically started working up to now with no issues.
And it is true telstra are bloody hopeless at testing pre-releasing ROMs.
If you need more information let me know.
Thanks
Would greatly appreciate any help in two areas:
- firstly my HD2 internet stuff is nor working at present. Clicking many of the BigPond links just brings up IE with wap.telstra.com/wap?..... and ends up just sitting there until timeout. Can you post details for setting up new internet connection that fixed this.
- which ROM did you go to. Hw did you load this. I cannot get my HD2 to connetc to Win7 x64 WMDC. Can't even see any mention of the device in the device mgr, though it did say it saw it at ones stage. Reading numerous posts - seems to be a lot of people having issues in this space..

Ok.. have to say, the wap.telstra addresses are all old and many are discontinued. All those apps are simply web shortcuts that should point to a m.bigpond address.
Firstly.. you need to do a few things..
1) You will need to HSPL your phone- ( like flashing a bios ) I just used the hspl.zip.. Instructions are easy and straight forward, make sure you follow them perfectly.
2) Flash your radio to something better i did the 2.10 ( Again.. instructions need to be followed.)
3) I then had a look and found a rom on the forum ( energy GTX ) which seems to have all i want and is fast.. after you flash it.. reboot it.. and it will autoconfigure to the Telstra network.. and BINGO.. FAST Phone!!

Hey there, thanks for this. With the new 1.72 ROM the Telstra inbuild connection set ups seem to work, can browse internet and activesync will connect when I prompt it OK (with 1.49 I had to setup a new connection with Phone line (GPRS) and telstra.wap manually (via the Telstra tech's)). I have two HD2's one running 1.49 (with this manual config) and the other 1.72 with inbuilt Telstra config's - the delay problem u described with email arriving 3 or 4mins later is still happening on 1.72 despite it appearing to connect fine, almost like the message from the exchange server is being ignored. Watching Activesync on the 1.72 when I know there is new email and there is this odd sequence, seems to check and recheck emails 2 or 3 times when just one new email has arrived but doesn't seem to pick up the trigger from the Exchange Server that new email has arrived? Does this delay still happen for you, what connection configuration did you select? Thanks v.much.
I want to know what are the real benefits or improvements on upgrading the ROM on Telstra branded HD2? Because I bought an new, unlocked HD2 from a clearance shop in Melbourne and had been into it for just 2 days. Bening a long time WM user, I got used to it and it really seems to work without any problems at the moment, so does the new ROM brings some dramatic improvements, new and fanastic functions or what? I am not after cosmetic things at all, need to know real benefits comared to old ROM.

Thanks, almost sold on this path at this point given the headaches, was reluctant to head down this HSPL path, is there a good reference for setting up a custom ROM specifically for Telstra's network?
Activesync usually never works with the standard Telstra connection in the HD2 Telstra ROM.
As far as im aware, it is set up to go through a Telstra proxy server, which doesn't allow the Activesync traffic.
You must set up your own stock standard connection to telstra.internet APN. Which bypasses the proxy that they have on their preloaded connection. You will however not be able to use the Telstra internet shortcuts to My Account, BigPond etc, as they require authentication with their proxy server.
So as far as I have found, with the stock Telstra HD2 ROM its a case of either one or the other: your activesync working, or your Telstra links working.

I'd like a response to this too as I'm looking at HD2 Android and need a radio upgrade from for it to run, but don't want to lose Telstra Rural coverage. The HD2 is a great device, but few Winmo6.5 app developments compared to Android or iphone.

htc hd2 telstra australia

I purchased this phone on Ebay and didnt realise at the time that it came pre loaded with Telstra software which prevents me form accessing the net etc. I am with "3" and would prefer to keep the phone - can anyone help solve this issue?
your quick fix would be to Flash a new Rom
Thanks for that. Next question - is how do I do that, where do I go, do I need to do via computer/net or phone/net - never done anything like it. Cheers

Wow. Could probably do this.
This is all about getting a phone for my sister who has vey poor reception at her farm in the country but where my HD2 works great. None of her three children who all have different types of phones gets as good as reception has the HD2. She wants to buy a phone doesn't want to get it home and find the reception is poor and having wasted her money. I could sell her mine (as I quite like the look of the Desire) and try to tweek it - or she could get one of her own from ebay (item 300447152858) which has already been done. Question then is, will it have the same reception - what part of the phone tells me that sort of info.

the very first thing that you're gonna have to do is flash an older Telstra ROM after you HSPL it. then you can flash whatever ROM you want. i speak from experience. good luck!
no no no... The Telstra phone doesn't prevent you from connecting to the net, it simply doesn't have the settings to connect to 3...
Ring 3 and get all the settings and create a new connection on your HD2...

Actually, whilst you'll get your 3 sim working, you'll have problems getting any desent net connection
Advise, actually flashing HSPL & then custom rom. It all takes a bit of time reading & understanding how it all works but trust me its the best thing to do.
I had probs getting my 3 sim working properly but eversince I started using custom roms, on 1st boot the device picks up the 3 settings automatically & runs perfect

As far as reception goes, your best bet is to stick to telstra. Or 3 as a second option, which runs on the telstra network when roaming.

that's actually more because the cooked roms generally contain the.global connectionsetup program that includes settings for most carriers than the rom itself. you can find it as a cab, which should work on the stock Telstra rom.

Videocall with X2

Hi there this is my first post in this forum.
Someone here thought it is a good idea to get some X2 as business phone. Unfortunately this one also decided that i am the one that has to take care of them.
My first task is to get Videocall working by using the Wireless Lan over here.
I tried to find some software that can do so but wasn't that successfull. Everything i found used a server that you had to subscribe to get this functionality. Thats exactly what i don't want.
Nice would be the following:
You can use your phone for Videocall within this buildung using the wireless lan so you can call every computer or phone connected to the local area network.
Is there any software that can do so, or which of those features are totally not supported so i have to throw them away?
Is there a software at all that supports at least parts of my ideas?
Greetings from germany
Marcel
