I cannt find the m5hash to do a simple file search
so I am hopeing some one can help me in this matter
Ty in advance

You need a PC to unlock your bootloader to root, unless you are already s-off. If you are only unlocked you still need a PC to fastboot flash recovery. Without USB support you're pretty much out of luck for rooting.
ETA: with your hboot version you may be able to use unrevoked to gain s-off but you will need to downgrade your radio for it to work and I'm not 100% sure you can downgrade radios with s-on, its been a while since I've flashed a radio on the evo, and I'm not sure unrevoked will work with radios above 2.10

Revolutionary is for 2.16, I misread it at first and tthought he had 2.18 but that's why I corrected it and said unrevoked works for hboot 2.10, I just don't know if it will work with 2.15 radio or if the radio needs to be downgraded. Unrevoked was the only way to get s-off without a PC for adb/fastboot commands. Without USB support its not going to be simple to root with radio and hboot being mismatched. The only option may be to upgrade to hboot 2.16 and run revolutionary or 2.18 and use htcdev then downgrade and gain s-off. Its not like there's a simple app to one-click s-off HTC devices, unfortunately. I'm not even sure which unrevoked would be needed to s-off 2.10 with 2.15 radio, and if the radio needs to be downgraded idk if you can downgrade em without s-off, its been a while since I've flashed radios on my evo and i haven't had to s-off it in a long time, I think my hboot is like 0.97 or something older than dirt by phone standards

Isn't hboot 2.10 good for unrevoked? Does radio really matter? I thought it was just hboot.

We'll its really going to depend on your fastboot info (what SPL/radio your using) then you can go from there. The Androot method seems to be the now easiest method and from what I've read has a high success rate. You'll need to get your fastboot information then you can start searching. The answers to your questions are out there. The biggest thing with having the 3.5mm Jack is the ROMs available for it. There aren't many so your choices are limited.

Right.
So if I got the one WITHOUT the 3.5mm jack, I have more options then? okay.
Now, on the G1 some roms require a custom SPL. Is this the same on the MT3g?

In most cases, no. The original MT3G (no headphone jack) is one of the easiest phones to root, which is kinda awesome. Download universal androot, then rom manager, flash the recovery and then install roms as usual. Way easy!
@can teh man
You NEED to post your information before you can get anyone here to help you.
All that we know at this point is that you have a MyTouch without the 3.5mm jack. But did you know that there are still different versions of your device? If someone gives you instructions (or reference to instructions) that is not meant for your device then you might end up with a broken phone. WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR THIS!
Your next post in this thread better be with useful information to properly identify your device or I will delete this thread.
When your device is powered off hold down the volume button while pressing power. It should take you to a white screen. Post ALL information that you see on that white screen here in this thread and then we can help you.
I don't think he's actually got the phone yet. I think he was just trying to get a jump start on getting it rooted once he does. I could be wrong though.

I've got it rooted and I've got Rom Manager, Amon Ra [32B] installed... what do I need to know about radio and SPL for this phone?
I have same phone as u. U have new radio. I flashed 2005 eng spl to mine to get s-off. Fastboot purposes. Use amonra 1.7.0. Just make sure whatever u flash is for 32b. Most Roms for it will be in g1 section. Check the sticky section. Will have spl if u want Eng spl and list of roms. Try them out.

I have AMON RA 1.7.
Is the SPL the reason why I can't use fastboot?
Yeah the S-ON means your SPL has security on which keeps you from running any remote fastboot commands from your computer. If you've already got AmonRa loaded on your phone your good to go and wont need to mess with your SPL/radio. Just start flashing ROMs.

Right on man, I couldn't find the right SPL for my phone. Thanks!
Now I know people have had trouble getting the trackball flashing to work... Does anyone have a suggestion?
I'd like to keep CM6, but I'm willing to revert to a 1.5/1.6 rom if need be.

[Q] Kernel Issues and HBOOT

Hey all. I've been unable to flash any kernels except for the stock one and Baconbits. All others but my phone in a perpetual bootloop. I'm using compatible kernels, but it seems any that write a boot.img makes this happen (though I may be wrong on that). Does this have anything to do with the fact I have HBOOT Version .82? I've noticed in most people's screenshots that after they did S-Off, they have .76. Could this be the issue and if so, ho can I downgrade it? Thanks!
Anyone? I've looked around but haven't heard anything with this specific problem.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
0.76 is the engineering hboot for the G2, with S-OFF. I recommend though that you look at the new "gfree" method of getting S-OFF, which also gives you SIM unlock, SuperCID etc. It's much safer than the eng hboot, though the eng hboot does have some extra functionality.
I don't need the SIM unlock, so I didn't think the gfree method was needed. With that though, I'm on HBOOT .82, and have S-OFF. How can I get it to .76 and S-OFF?
You've got a G2, not a DZ, right ? I'm not sure how you can have the .82 HBOOT and have S-OFF unless you've run gfree ? I might be missing something though.
The gfree method is a much safer way of getting S-OFF, even if you don't need to SIM unlock.

Yes I have a G2, and I used this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833965 to get S-OFF. Am I supposed to have .82? The reason I doubted myself in the first place is that all the screenshots I've seen people have .76 and S-OFF.

I can only assume there's another engineering hboot version, at 0.82 with S-OFF for the G2 ? Sorry, having a DZ myself I'm not so familiar with the exact HBOOT levels on the G2 (since that's one difference from the DZ), but I'm sure someone else can help you with that shortly.
I recommend using gfree though, because with a proper radio S-OFF (not a kind of "fake" S-OFF via HBOOT) it will be a lot easier to recover your phone if somehow you semi-brick it.

but what if i don't want to sim-unlock it? or do u have an option to opt-out the other unlocks?
If you use the gfree program its all automated for you. However you CAN do it manually by following the directions in the wiki. You would really need to understand what you are doing before you try to skip steps to only turn s off. Is there some reason you really dont want sim unlocked?

So did you install the engineering hboot to get S-OFF ? Because if not, I highly recommend gfree. It's safe and it'll put your phone into a better state if anything bad does happen to it in the future (e.g. semi-brick), even if you don't want the SIM unlock. It gives you a proper radio S-OFF, the engineering hboot is kind of a fake S-OFF (because it reports S-OFF even though the radio is actually still S-ON).

[Q] Do I really need to upgrade hboot and radios?

Hi,
I have successfully rooted mine and one other Evo with the November firmware update and hboot 2.02. I just rooted my brother's who had the August firmware update and hboot 0.97 using this method. After doing the last method, it flashed the hboot to 0.71 - I just left it at that and loaded the ROM and all is ok.
So, my question is: Do I really need to update hboot or the radios? Am I gaining that much more by updating than than risking bricking my phone?
Thanks, and thanks to so many people here - I proudly support the apps and ROMs I use.
No. You don't need to worry about it. Your hboot is fine, especially considering Cyanogenmod no longer requires the Eng hboot. I've never risked it with radios and haven't encountered a problem.

How to unroot? back to stock

hi all,
i would like to unroot my desire Z completely to stock rom.
And i would not want those silly questions; why would you want it ? it sucks blabla.
I just do it for my guarantee.
So i cant find an official RUU.
I thought i could take the 1.34 original PC10IMG to downgrade it to 1.34.
but im kinda scared, cause im permrooted got S-off, and a engineeringspl.
So can i just apply the original 1.34 PC10IMG or will it brick then?
I already googled but couldnt find anything.
Please help me to completely unroot.
Greetings,
Nick
What ROM are you running right now ?
When you say you have S-OFF, is that only through the eng hboot ,or have you used gfree to get full radio S-OFF ?

thought i used both lol first gfree and after that i took the old hboot process to gain s-0ff. now running vitiouw 0.9.5
If you have radio S-OFF via gfree, then you are perfectly safe to flash an older stock ROM. The dangerous scenario is if you only have S-OFF via the eng hboot (not gfree) and then flash a stock ROM.

As long as you used gfree to get full radio S-OFF (e.g. you ran gfree -s and it worked) then you are safe. If you're unsure, then see how to check if you have radio S-OFF in the Wiki at http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik..._Vision#VERIFY_.28using_.22gfree_verify.22.29

How to S-OFF EVO V?

I've got my bootloader unlocked. I tried to get a KitKat rom installed, but no luck. I followed a bunch of steps from one of the threads here. It has me use ADB and TWRP. It says S-OFF is optional.
I can get all the way through flashing a rom, but when I reboot it's not there.. just my stock Android 4.0.3 that came with my phone.
Maybe S-OFF is needed? But I can't get S-OFF to work.. I didn't want to do the wire trick. I have software from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2436217
It says check best method. But in there my bootloader version is not listed.. 1.58. I tried more than one S-OFF software with no luck. One of them was Revolutionary which required it to be 2.15 or 2.16.
What to do?

This is the wrong device thread. This is htc evo 4g not evo 3d/evo v.
But I will tell you the wire trick is safe and easy if you run it from Ubuntu. You dont even have to install Ubuntu you can run it from a cd and that method has resulted in 0 bricks. The windows version has had a few bricks so it is not recommended.
Fyi only htc ics roms will run on hboot 1.58. Gingerbread sense and all aosp require older hboots and you can not downgrade hboots unless you get s-off.
