[Q]Crackling sound - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone else noticed crackly audio with the M? Mine has crackly sound when playing music through the phone speaker, bluetooth connected to my car, or wired to a portable speaker. It does it with Pandora, YouTube and Slacker. With it effecting pretty much anything anytime, anywhere, and at any volume level (I thought it might have just been turned up too high), I am lead to believe it is the phone and not an app or peripheral issue. Is there a fix for this? I would hate to have to return this great device for such a small issue, but Pandora is my most used app and I am very annoyed by this problem. Thanks in advance!

I have no problem with sound on my phone even at loudest setting on speaker have you tried messing with the equalizer settings to see if it helps.

I don't have any issues with music, but I do have crackling the last few days on voice calls. I have not yet confirmed whether signal strength is a factor.

Strange static noise

I have noticed that when using the supplied earphones I can hear static background noise when I scroll through menus and buttons while music is playing. This only happens when music is activated and I can hear a low annoying fuzzy static that gets louder the more I scroll for example.
I can barely hear it when I put on headphones but can with earphones, seems quite strange wonder if anyone else experiences the same thing?
No one? Just try it, turn the volume down while listening to music then go to home screen and scroll left constantly or right and the hissing noise will get louder.
Audio chip or whatever must be quite crappy.
Restarted phone and can't seem to hear it now. Strange.
I'm glad that by talking to your self you've managed to fix this problem.
I spoke to myself to soon! Its back and I suspect it has something to do with the wifi sharing. As I activated kies air, uploaded a song, listened to song and hissing is back! argh.

Try force stopping it? I've frozen most Samsung apps but even before then I had no problems at all with something like this tbh...although I don't use the stock music player.
I have annoying static background noise while using earphones, it can be better heard whilr using the phone when no music is playing.
This is a general issue or isolated cause?
I have this!!! I seem to get possibly some kind of audible distortion just before i play a song, and then when i pause the song and touch the screen it makes the weird static noise (and possibly when the song is playing as well, but its less identifiable). For me this noise only lasts for about 5 seconds after i have paused it and then stops. And yes, it also seems to be louder in earphones than headphones.
HAVE YOU FOUND A FIX? Firmware upgrades? Sent it back and got a replacement? what did you guys do? Let me know, thanks.
Could it be evp?

I installed the Backslash Kernel and THEN noticed this, rebooted and it went.
It came back a while after. I also unplugged the headphones with the music app running and the phone rebooted.
Re-flashed the CF-Root KG1 Kernel and it went away, not had any 'noise' or reboots since :/
I got a replacement from orange as this issue was too distracting. My replacement has just come, but exactly the same 'static noise while and after listening to music' issue is still here!!! Is this really what its like for everyone but people don't bother saying?

KERNAL VERSION: [email protected] #2
On my last phone i tried flashing to generic KE7 AND KF3 (using odin). Both seemed to make the sound last for not as long after i pause the music, but did not solve the issue. Will rooting the phone, using different kernals and whatnot fix this? Could it be a dodgy batch of phones from orange? (I have no knowledge of what rooting and kernals actually is, let alone what ones i should use)
I have also experienced this. It seems the screen is the problem since the noise is gone when the screen is off.
What headphones are you using?
I have used the supplied headphones, but i have also tried other headphones as well. All seem to give the same sound but possibly at varying levels of volume. Do you still have the problem?
I use the Sennheiser CX300 II and I do not experience it any longer.
It depends on the impedance of the headphones. If the impedance is 16 ohm I cannot hear it but on 12 ohm headphones it is pretty obvious (but they are able to play louder).
I have not tried the supplied ones myself because they ALWAYS sound awful but if you had a specific name for a proper headphone you have tried, you can easily find their impedance on the internet.
Hmm well i have tried my creative EP-630 headphones which have impedance of 16 Ohm and i can still hear the noise. I have used many terrible headphones on terrible 'mp3 players' over the years and i have never experienced this, so i don't see why i should now go out and buy some new headphones. Although if you are really saying that the Sennheiser CX300 II headphones completely cured your problem then it might be worth it? Was your problem exactly the same as the one i described? Cheers.
It's obviously a problem of the audio amp picking up electrical noise from the other components of the device. I'm skeptic that anything can be done to solve it.
I also can hear some faint background noise on mine when scroling the screen and using memory, but anyway it's very faint... not enough to bother even in quiet environments.
I have to agree, it's bad shielding in the design. Something we will all have to live with.
I notice it most between songs when listening to music. Each songs starts with a little blast of noise.
Hmmm well i've heard that with certain kernals it is not there. Also for me, simply changing to different stock firmware reduced the time that the static sound lasts after i pause a song, so surely that can mean it can be stopped altogether. Im not prepared to give up on this (yet).
I would be grateful for other information and reports from other people about this issue, even simply if you don't have it. :/
...anyone?

i have this problem too...
but i have found that it does with some earphones... i guess its a matter of shielding, as posted before.

[Q] Clicks and pops in pandora audio. CM7

Clicks and pops in pandora audio.
this looks like the basic stagefright issue but good lord how long will this go on?
I have tried to disable stagefright but have been unable to do it or tell that i have as the problem has not gone away.
i do still need to do that.
I see so little information on this.
CM7 2.6.35.13 pershoot kernel
It doesnt happen in jango. havent tried slacker.
Doesnt happen in radio time.
only happens on some pandora songs.
Coldplay songs on pandora have it often enough. "Clocks"
this is a tmobile g2. it is running off of 4g.
i have tried bumping the cpu up.
changing EQ settings and lots of searching.
it appears that some phones have this issue and other do not but most appearances of the issue do not have a solid solution.
if there is a solid solution to this i did not see it in a FAQ.
Is there no solution to this? is this still a fight between android and pandora audio format or what is the deal?
I noticed I get choppy audio from Pandora if "Cell Network Audio Quality" in "Preferences" is set to "Normal". After changing it to "High" the audio is clear and sounds amazing in my car!
Aw geese. I am using high quality audio.
The cm7 basic kernel does the same thing. It has done this since I moved off the stock rom to cm 6.
The clicks and pops and not easy to hear. But once I hear it then I think its happening all the time.
Slacker doesn't seem to have this issue.
I use blue tooth a2dp? Stereo head phones and they are working in this mode.
I have had a mobile 6.5 phone a 3g iphone and this g2 with these head phones. The g2 audio in pandora is unacceptable.
Ill use slacker but I like pandora.
And pandora should work.
I do not accept that it is an issue with only my phone.
I think if you listen with right song the clicks are very noticable. Anybody should be able to hear it.

I use pandora mostly in my car with just a hair over 1000 watts total to door speakers and subwoofer. The door speakers have the majority of the power with a 760 watt amp, and I listen to my music loud. I'm sure I would have noticed any clicking and popping. I use a stereo jack though, maybe because you are using wireless it doesn't sound as good.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
it doesnt happen with all songs.
But it doesnt happen with slacker at all.
it is something to do with pandora.
I believe the past issues were with the android codec and a fileformat pandora used. I figure that must still be the case.
Not all of pandoras songs use the same file format as i understand it asn i dont hear the issue in every song.
I do hear it as well through the crappy car stereo mini plug input jack i use.
what are your phone specs? are you using cyanogenmod 7? which kernel?
Are you running in high quality audio for pandora.
have you tried it their coldplay songs?
also have you tried using bluetooth stereo headphones.
i dont use the miniplug input jack in my car.
the headphones i use are.
sony
dr-bt22a
they sound fine in pandora on all the phones i have tried that have bluetooth audio that is not broken. Granted a lot of phones have broken bluetooth audio.
I run MIUI 1.7.1, kernel 2.6.35.13-EB-CM7-Streamline5 on my T-Mo G2. Dunno the clock speed but whatever default is, I haven't tweaked it at all. I run Pandora with high quality audio, and I mostly listen to top hits, and electronic style music, not cold play specifically. Also, I don't have any bluetooth headphones, the only time I use Pandora is in my car, and I have a stereo jack input on my stereo.
cm7 nightlies here, I use pandora daily and have never experienced this issue... and I am definitely anal about audio quality.
are you using dsp manager on your bluetooth headset?

Yes i am using dsp manager. sounds pretty cruddy without the EQ.
I always use it. i havent tried it without.
Is there a known problem with the DSPmanager?

not any known problems that I'm aware of, but that would be the first place I'd look to when troubleshooting.
see if completely disabling DSP manager for bluetooth makes a difference.
I'll try a coldplay station (mind you, I'm not a fan. you owe me. ) on the way home today and see if I can pick out any infidelity.
some call it heterosexual gay music...
but what ever.
I think i have tried disabling it.
I dont know. I was really hoping there was some known issue somewhere.
Other songs do it too. in pandora. slacker, which i dont like much, does not seem to have this issue.
it does it without the dsp from what i can tell its just harder to hear but
red hot chili peppers "scar tissue" does it pretty clearly and horribly.
dsp on or off. even tried killing the dps service.
next song was matt kearney "nothing left to lose" and i did not hear it there but i think it is... if i hadnt heard it in the previous song I would not think it was in this one.
maybe i can make a recording of the audio...
Hmm. if i can get to happen from the audio jack as well. it sounded like it was doing it in the car with the mini plug.

notifications while using bluetooth

Bought a Moto S10-HD headset, and it sounds great, but I noticed that when I get notifications, my music pauses like normal, but the notification sound gets played on the phone, and it's not passed along to the headset. Music resumes as normal after the notification. That doesn't happen when using the wired headphones, but if I'm using a bluetooth headset and I leave my phone in the other room, the only way I'll know if I get a notification will be the music pausing.
Any ideas?
It does that to me with my Car stereo when its hooked up via BT. It isn't really an issue for me since I am never far enough away from my phone where i don't hear the notification coming from the phone. I never thought about why it does this, but since you brought it up, I would love to know as well.
A quick google search shows that this is apparently the holy grail for bluetooth headphone users. However, I think the same thing happens with wired headphones as well.
I too, would like to know why and have it solved.
My stock wired headphones play the notification tone fine.
While I'm here, another thing I noticed is the system sounds that are played over bluetooth are somewhat quiet compared to music. That also doesn't happen on the wired headphones.

[Q] Popping sound when SMS interrupts music?

Got my Note3 on VZW last night, and so far i love almost everything about it....except...
I am sitting at work streaming music. I have a set of speakers plugged into the headphone jack.
When i receive an SMS (or any notification), the music pauses like normal. However, right before and after the pause, i hear a "pop" sound, as if i physically unplugged the speakers and plugged them back in. My Gnex that the note replaced definitely did not do this.
I don't believe it made the sound when connected BT in my car.
Is anyone else seeing this behavior? It sounds like a grounding issue.
Same for me

I am using Rhapsody, so there isn't another app option. I dont have any local music on the phone yet, but i will try that at some point.
I stream music through Rhapsody every day. I hope this isn't a hardware issue. Seeing poweramp work better makes me hopeful it is just a software issue.

Quick question - headphone click sound

When I use my Bose QC15 headphones with my phone, if I launch an app or press one of the nav keys, I hear a clicking sound through the headphones, like it is turning off and on almost.. I know that sounds odd, but I was wondering if anyone else has this issue and has a possible solution?
Also, when audio is playing this noise stops. It is only when there is no audio playing.
Thanks.
Hi, I'm experiencing the same thing. I bought earphones by Aukey on Amazon and they were doing this clicking that got progressively worse as the call went on. I now bought a pair of Gwee buds. Same problem. Both sound fine on regular audio video and on other phones...

I can report the same problem as well. I have a pair of RHA T20, and I can hear the clicking sound whenever I enable "reverberation" in Viper4Android. Maybe it's your sound setting?
Odds enough, it happens only one the ear that has the Mic attached to it on the Green buds. I'll try the aukeys to compare. I check the sound settings and get back to you too

6P noise also
I use my 6P in my car for navigation and occasional music. I use a cable to connect from the headphone jack to the aux in on the car's sound system. Very often, but not always, I get what sounds to me like cross over noise, playing on both channels. Rhythmic ticks and taps, some buzzes and so forth. I believe it to be digital noise, bleeding in from god knows where. It corresponds to touchscreen activity, and only occurs when the 12v adapted power supply is plugged into the phone. Unplug the USBc and all is quiet, except for what is supposed to be coming through.
I've searched quite a bit and this thread is the closest I've found to my experience. Any ideas?
