BBC just announced that the new iPlayer for android will be released next week.
Maybe you should of said how it no longer uses adobe flash player and infact uses a new media player created by the bbc,
Which if you visit the iplayer mobile site is already being used,

Lets hope the videos will be in watchable quality, the quality of the iPlayer app is absolutely terrible, I find myself forced to use the website to watch iPlayer videos on my phone just because the quality of the app makes the videos unwatchable.

Its out in the play store now and it still doesn't need flash but unfortunately it still doesn't run on jelly bean.
I sideloaded flash on mine and just use their website, works fine.

It does run on Jelly Bean.
Also BBC announced last week after iOS got their update which allows downloading to 'watch later', that Android wold also get this feature 'soon'. Hopefully in next weeks update?

BBC drops Flash for iPlayer
19 September 2012 11:27
The BBC said that Android remained a very important platform
The BBC is launching a new media player for those who watch its catch-up service iPlayer on Android phones and tablets.
It has previously used Adobe Flash to stream content to Android devices. But Adobe has decided to remove its Flash player plug-in for Android.
The BBC would release the Media Player for iPlayer on Android next week, it said in a blog post.
It has already started using it with the mobile view of the iPlayer website.
"We want people to have the best experience possible when they're watching BBC TV programmes or listening to BBC radio programmes. This means, amongst other things, making them available on as many devices as is practical," said Chris Yanda, executive product manager at BBC Future Media.
He said the decision to go with a "separate application" was down to the "fast-changing environment" of mobile development.
"We are making this change with our eyes open. No technology is perfect," he added.
The BBC has supported iPlayer on Android since June 2010

Sorry I should have worded that better.
The iplayer app is incompatable with the s3 because it still uses flash which you cant run "officially" on jelly bean.
The work around is to install the bbc media player app through the play store
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...central&utm_medium=blog&utm_campaign=bloglink
and then view content through the bbc iplayer website instead of the iplayer app itself. Or sideload flash

Can anyone confirm if BBCiPlayer is compatible with Opera 9.5.
I'm a Nokia n95 8gb user, soon to return to WM when Expansys deliver my early Christmas/late birthday present.
Wouldnt it be soo cool to watch bbc iplayer on this baby!!
Same Here
I am returning back to my WM. I had an iPhone, used for two weeks but did not like it, too complicated, so gone for sale.. now I am returning to my WM and just order my new Touch HD from expansys today. Window mobile are much easy to use and simply the best. I like to see HTC add more useful features on this new Touch HD before final release.
Waiting Time
Thats great. I hope you don't have to wait too long being you just preordered recently.
I know many at xda-dev forum ( including myself ) and elsewhere have been on that one form of preordering list since the phone was made official.
I hope Expansys don't keep everyone waiting too long after they get stock.
not bothered about it running on the touch to be honest (have a kaiser)
but i'm surprised theres little talk about getting iplayer working properly on windows mobile in general .
i've heard that opera and flash works, but i cant get it working at all
can anyone (surely someone in the know must do) confirm/deny if it is at all possible?

Yes. I Second that. iPlayer is as much a killer app to me as youtube.
Am I the only one who is keen to use their mobile to watch the BEEB ?
+1
Yeah I'm massive I Player fan. I used to listen to 5Live every morning in the bathroom with my Wizard and Wifi. I think the Beeb changed something as it suddenly stopped working with Realplayer 1.
I am surprised its taking this long to get a solution for WM for I player. I have just moved to a Diamond and will move to a Touch HD later next year.
I hope anyone doing searches for IPhone apps comes across our discussions about an I-Player... !
I believe the HD has crossed the seas and is now in the UK, well the preview batch anyways..
Could anyone that has the HD confirm if it works with the BEEB ??

Just reviewing stock status across a number of suppliers - seems the release date in the UK has been brought forward to the 7th November - maybe even sooner! Both Play and Expansys have revised "ready to ship" dates?
.
I have spoken to a friend at orange who says they have sHD stock arriving today for sale on Monday 3rd. He has be saying this all week and is a very reliable source.

I have a HD on order from Handtec.com and should have it on the 12th (or earlier) - I already have the Raphael and have been testing on a regular basis with Opera 9.5 and the latest Flash release - there was some improvement but its still not actually showing the streaming video?
As far as I'm aware there is still no i-Player codec for either Core Player or Windows Media Player. I think that the issue is one for the BBC to resolve rather than a hardware problem (i.e. once it works it will work on all Win Mob Pro phones that can show video?)
So..... unless HTC have a new Opera version just for the HD (Possible) or have negotiated with the BBC (As Apple have - Unlikely???) to allow the content only on the HD then I think we'll have to wait for the BBC (Aunty for the older Brits on here) to step up and provide either a codec or dedicated mobile player?
Hope my thoughts provide some help and guidance - and maybe spark some more debate?
.
I've been trying for some hours today to get the streams from BBC Mobile working with little success.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/mobile/index.shtml
If I look at BBC mobile on my X7500 using explorer there is a link showing "Watch Live TV" I can then click on a channel which downloads a link and then launches Coreplayer which immediately complains that it can't do anything with it.
Anybody else had any joy?
Cheers
Matthew

My Kaiser tells me that the content is only available in the UK but my computer through the same router is fine
why is this ????
SlashGear.com mentions content from the BBC iPlayer.
http://www.slashgear.com/htc-touch-hd-video-demo-and-qa-3121040/
"Q. Can the Touch HD’s Opera browser play content from BBC iPlayer, Hulu or other streaming sites?
A. No. For instance, the iPlayer site loadsbut the streaming video component does not. There is a streaming video app, separate from the YouTube player, but that requires a specific url to load".

Oh of course - BBC NEWS 24 is a UK only channel as it's paid by us TV License payers. And no one in the UK on this forum seems to have the Touch HD so it wouldn't work.
D'oh !
I think it's just a matter of time before BBC iPlayer works on the Touch HD. They have expanded support for many smartphones and PMP's.
The issue from the BBC's point of view is simply demand - making Iplayer available for platforms like the ipod touch and Iphone is a no brainer since there are huge numbers of those devices in the UK, and their users are very much focussed on video and multimedia. With Windows Mobile the case isn't quite so clear - its users are in much smaller numbers for one, and many - perhaps the greater majority - are simply business users with no desire to watch TV on their mobile, and quite possibly inadequate hardware for the task in any case (since the vast majority of WinMo handsets are not high resolution, big screen devices like the HD). Realistically, the HD alone is not going to significantly advance the cause.
While I agree with you, it would be nice if the BBC used an open standard so any platform could watch their shows. Nothing to do with the HD except more devices like this will mean maybe it will become an issue.

Sure, but they have to protect their copyright first and foremost - and ensure it's only license fee payers in the UK who get the benefit - so whatever platforms they support can't be too open.
I've read various reviews saying the flash support doesnt work properly or is crap. Can anyone who hs actually tried it on here comment?
I'm tempted to get one tonight!
Also - does the BBCi player work over cellular network or only wifi like the iphone?
Thanks
So far flash support is pretty terrible. BBC flash content doesn't work. Only flash thing I've seen work so far is a little Cyanide and Happiness short and even that was juddery.
I read somewhere that it has Flash lite, which is on par with version 8 of flash. since we are all on version 10 in the desktop world I think it fair to say its behind. especially since the best advances in the latter versions are to do with video. So most video flash on the web with be 9 or 10 so no chance on the hero. Remember that Adobe said they are doing flash for devices stated to come out at end of 09 early 10. for ALL but the iphone...
You see apple would lose quite a bit if people could simply play FREE flash games and not purchase games through the app store.

Android isn't officially supported by the BBC iPlayer, but Beebplayer (on the market) effectively spoofs the iPlayer site to send an Android compatible stream that works fine in most cases, including via 3G (your mileage may vary!).

Flash is waving a tearful farewell to Android, with Adobe confirming that it won't be supporting Flash Player on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and furthermore will be blocking people from installing Flash Player from mid-August.
On its blog, the company behind Photoshop confirms that Jelly Bean kit won't get Flash support, matter-of-factly writing, "We have not continued developing and testing Flash player for this new version of Android and its available browser options."
From 15 August, Adobe is going to limit access to Flash Player updates to devices that already have the Player installed. That means that if you don't have the app installed by then, you won't be able to get it.
Moreover, Adobe warns that when devices get updated from Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to 4.1 Jelly Bean, the player "may exhibit unpredictable behaviour, as it is not certified for use with Android 4.1". Adobe recommends uninstalling Flash before upgrading your phone or tablet to Jelly Bean.
If you own a Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Motorola Xoom or Google Nexus S you should take note, as these are gadgets that Google has confirmed to receive Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in mid-July.
Flash comes pre-installed on many current smart phones, but it looks like this won't continue, as Flash -- once one of Android's biggest selling points -- continues its quiet exit from Google's operating system.
Apple denied Flash access to its own iOS platform from day one, something that forced many websites to switch to HTML5 to ensure anyone browsing on an iPhone or iPad could still watch video. It looks like this is one battle Apple has won.
Flash was nice to have when introduced to Froyo back in 2010. In the last 2 years, the internet has evolved away from Flash. HTML 5 is more and more prevalent, and rightly so. Flash, while acceptable on a newer smart phone, still is far laggier than other video solutions. And the fact remains that Flash has a LOT of security flaws. They patch 1 and 2 more are discovered.
By the time Jelly Bean hits our devices, Flash just won't be needed. It's time to look forward.

Doesn't the iPad not have flash and don't they play videos fine?
No, unless the website in question uses HTML 5. That's why iPeople have to download hundreds of stupid little apps for websites. Instead of the full web experience, it has to be translated into a non-flash app... for EACH site.

Sounds like Flash on Android is finally coming to an end. From Jelly Bean onwards Flash will no longer be available to download from the Play Store unless it's pre installed on a certified device.
So does that discount Nexus devices then?

HTML5 will replace Flash
Yes true, but it remains to be seen how fast media streaming websites adopt html 5 and dispense with flash.
For instance, I can currently watch tv programs from our national tv station as I have Flash installed.
However look at the situation if I upgrade my phone and no longer have flash. Now what? It's one thing to say the browser can pay html 5 . But that's only going to be a realistic alternative when Flash is replaced by the media companies. It's that type of scenario in thinking of.
What's the situation like in the US and elsewhere?
Sent from my Nexus One using xda app-developers app
Adobe should rather provide a kind of plugin which can abstract the flash and provide the html5 interface working for existing flash based web pages.
There has to be a solution for back word compatibility. It will be sad if we cant play so many good websites which are developed on flash.
I hope Google and Adobe can provide good solution for back word compatibly
I wont miss it. I've had it installed but the browser is always set to load plugins on demand but I newer use it.
Hopefully html5 will replace it fully soon. It needs to deliver better performance.

The developers of Adobe Flash have stated that they will no longer support devices 4.1+. Yes, HTML5 is supposed to replace flash. Hopefully it works out better with performance and load speed. One is to only hope.

No, more precisely, we have new technology to do what flash does, so it will be replaced and it is being replaced.
Flash can be tune to work with a touchscreen but since it going be replaced soon, putting on more effort to it is kind of pointless. Seeing how buggy it runs on Linux, I don't think I would miss it at all. I look forward to the day when I no longer needs it.
Currently there is a work around for no flash on 4.1. All I did was install the Firefox beta and then flash. It works but is kind of buggy. I just had a few websites I had to have flash for.

Just back up your flash app, e.g., using TitaniumBackup, and restore it once you are running Jelly Bean.
It likely will continue to work that way.
You just won't be able to do a fresh install from the market.
Given the lack of continued support for Flash in Jelly Bean, will Nexus 7 be able to use BBC iPlayer?

likely note, however I do believe the bbc have a HTML5 version for the ipad so this will likely be ported soon enough
I hope they'll do an HTML5 version for Android. The one currently on PS3 is fantastic and doesn't stutter videos like flash used to.
I was able to use Iplayer under Jelly Bean restoring Flash Player from Titanium Backup and installing Iplayer from an apk I've extracted from my ICS phone.
Don't work under Chrome but is OK under Android Browser. at http://www.bbc.co.uk/mobile/iplayer
