Purchased Gameloft and Madfinger games? - 7" Kindle Fire HD General

I was excited to get my new Fire HD, even if it wasn't exactly a necessary upgrade over the original. If nothing else, it was worth it for larger internal storage. 8 gig was horribly cramped. I was however more than a little disappointed to see none of my gameloft (NOVA3, TDKR, Asphalt) or madfinger game purchases in my game library. Sure hope it's an oversight by Amazon, if it's not it, I hope it doesn't take gameloft an eternity to update compatibility for the new 7 and 8.9 inch models.

[Q] HD Games on Folio

Hi,
I'm looking for some HD games for Folio and I besides Dungeon and turbofly I couldn't get any to work. I'm specially looking for something like Dungeon Hunter, or Diablo, hack'n'slash I mean.
Do you know any HD game, beside this two, that will run on Folio?
Gameloft as incridible HD games but none works on Folio, because tegra2 texture compression is not supported.
This is a disapointment, as I expect that tegra 2 from nvidia had better game support and afterall it end up being one of must poorly supported platform in terms of games.
We no longer can say that tegra 2 is in its early days, almost 3 months have past since the launch and no support was added. Any new nvidia drivers to fix this issues with gameloft games. Any other publisher with HD games that run on folio.
I heard so much talking about how easy is to port the games from other platforms to tegra, but haven't seen any to this date? What's wrong with tegra?
Don't publishers like money?
Dude, have you tried Dungeon Defenders: First Wave ???
Imho this is the 1st proper game that supports Tegra 2 and runs like a candy on our Folio !!!
http://dungeondefenders.com
Yes I try it! Is a great game indeed. One think I love in this game are the graphics, but gameplay is not as good as one could expect.
I recently found a Beta version of robot defence and I must say it's awesome. Some animations are still poor but as I said is only a early stage demo of the game.
The lack of content for tegra 2 tablets is really a pain! Good games will make this things sell like hot cookies... but I guess google and nvidia are waitting to the last moment to make content available. Too sad though
I did find another great game, this time a shooter airattack HD

What is that game called like?
Maybe we should make a 'games' topic, with in the first post a list with all perfect working game titles for our folio's
Airattack HD lite. I get it also in my ipod touch and it's a must for those who want to kill some time! Beautiful graphics, not full 3D but quite good
I will re-edit #1 post on this thread as soon I get some more games to work.
Some new games, and also some old ones are getting HD graphics. Tegra Zone will be launched soon, probably tomorrow.
Tegra 2 may result in a big fiasco if they don't launch exclusive games and apps... It's the first time I see a thing like this: launching a platform with no software, no games, nothing...
Nvidia should be more carefull. A5 from apple is on its way, samsung will have dual core soon, intel already has...

the game works, at LOGO screen press "HOME" once, and then "BACK" and menu appear..
same bug is seen on ElocityA7 , so its a nvidia bug in graphics driver for now..
Take a look at hexage games like buka hd or radiant hd. Really Nice and addictive, runs smoothly but not so kickass graphics like 3d or explosions.....
I'm also interested in a Hd gale topic.
Yes they are quite fine, not my kind of game though. If you have a Tegra 2 and 512 Megabytes of RAM, you will expect better. I could show this guys the kind of game that I had in my old Intel Pentium 1,3 Ghz, with no GPU by the way. So much power for nothing. A4 from Apple will not even stand against Tegra 2, but if you see the graphics...
I saw backbreaker running on a folio 100 on youtube, but when I run it (1.3d, now clean 1.4), the geraphics are pretty messed up?
The Samurai II: Vengeance was just released specifically for Tegra 2 devices.

I tried the game, something beautiful! and, indeed, are seen just how powerful the machine! and how good the video accelerator.

Ok, market website fault.. seems the game is actually Tegra2 only!
poor support from Google's website, only showing non-tegra2 devices, when its actually tegra2 ONLY!
you need this View attachment build.zip (download attachment) to actually find it on the market, and buy/install it.
copy the build.prop (inside zip) to your /system folder and reboot.
and you find it.
is it just me or?
Why does the recently released games looks like Amiga500 from 1990?
Samurai II and Monster madness has cartoon like graphics which pretty much were fashion back in 90s when its was too hard to do better graphics and the no GPU were not capable of handling it.
is Tegra2 not better than a 90's cpu?
or should 3d games seen on other mobiles just wait, until Nvidia fixes the OpenGL ES issues, so its better supported, because its not just a port issue, its also the work tegra2 GL seems to be designed since games are still "2D"..
Thats just a thought...maybe you havent seen Amiga500 games, but they looks almost better sometimes
You are right! Some of this games are 2d only... But they are good enough to be played again and again, because they are fun. Most iPad and iPhone are just 2d because the game engine is more simple and the dev time is faster

games in pov mobii/ vega

hi guys i am new with this tablet. i bought a pov mobii here in argentina and i have to say that it is a fantastic tablet for the price but i have a question... what happens to gameloft games?? or need for speed? i couldn't play anyone. i installed it and download all the data for the games but then the game appears all the shaders in white... could it be the stock rom?? others games like minisquadron or angry birds work great, but i want to play splinter cell or another gameloft game. i think something happens within the tegra chipset and gameloft games...
Brother in Arms 2 HD does work on my PoV Mobii Tegra (Brothers_In_Arms_2__Global_Front_HD_LG_P990_Optimus_2x_Star_Dop_android.apk), but ONLY if I've the 3G dongle inserted with the SIM to which the Gamelof SMS (with the download link) was sent. Without the dongle BIA2 complains after some time about not being a legal copy and refuses to start. Games from the Android Market are a lot easier to install.

When will they start optimizing games for Tegra 3?

I don't really use the N7 for gaming as I already own a high-end gaming computer, besides I find tablets kind of uncomfortable for serious gaming, but I keep finding games that don't run as smooth as they should because of the same reason: This game is not optimized for tegra 3. I can't help but wonder: Will they ever optimize games for tegra 3? And I mean generally, not just a couple of games.
As you ask for "generally" i.e. ALL future games, the answer will (with a probabilty of 87.4%) be: No, they won't.
I don't think you can ever have "serious gaming" on a touch screen. You need real controllers or a keyboard + mouse for that. I also don't think you're going to get your serious gaming on a device that has 1GB of ram and runs everything in a virtual machine. You've got the whole android OS running along side the game, so the game is having to share that piddly 1GB of ram.
Look at the minimum requirements for big PC games and then look at the resources available to games on this tablet. The nexus doesnt even have half the specs for the lowest recommended settings in far cry 3, dishonored, dark souls, most of the other games that showed up on the list when I googled for "popular PC games".

http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=883&game=Far Cry 3
In most cases, I'd say developers won't take the time to optimize a game for a specific CPU. SoCs change about as often as you change your underwear. What is hot today will be obsolete next quarter and a handfull of newer chips will be out. If game makers had to optimize every game for every possible SoC, they'd never get nything released.

And where did I say I wanted to use it for serious gaming? Read the first post again because it seems you didn't understand it quite well. I'm just wondering if tegra 3 will be of any use in the future, nothing else.
It is not in game makers' interest to optimize games for specific chipsets. They make more money by cranking out 1 version of a game that runs on as many devices as possible. If they spend 3 months optimizing it for our chip, and then 3 months optimizing it for the snapdragon s4, the game is already released 6 months later and costs much more to make.
They will only optimize a game for the tegra3 if they are sure they can get their money back out of that extra effort. Will they sell enough "tegra optimized" versions to make up for all the copies they didn't sell in their 3 months of delay? Will they sell enough copies to pay the people that worked to do the optimizing? Do they even want to pay somebody to sit and figure out the math on that?
My point of view

If you compare the situation with PC gaming, it's also a matter about different CPU architectures (x86 vs ARM), CISC vs RISC etc., it's not only a matter of plain comparison of MHz or RAM.
However Tegra 3 IMHO sadly gave results below expectations in gaming due its limited memory bandwidth that's an issue for high resolution screens. So even if it's an overall good SoC, I think we won't see many optimized games for it, mainly because the market leader (yeah, it's the bitten apple in the gaming department), focuses on different specs and recode a game to fit the requirements costs too much compared to the revenue they could achieve with a tailored version.
The saddest thing (and I hope to be proved wrong), is that with the release of Tegra 4, we'll be forgot like the devices with Tegra 2...
There are a couple of nice games to get, I wished there where free ones though which where tegra optimised so I could see the difference.
But with all the different chipsets they would never do it, and if they where going to do it id say they would optimse the chipset what samsung uses because there are so many more of those sold.

Tegra 3's future started about a year ago, and will be over some time next year. 'tis the nature of SoC's.
Loved the underwear comment above (c: and there is a fair amount of truth in it. While seeing the Tegra optimized stuff was cool, it is a sales tool with a limited window.

Nook hd plus 32gb a gaming tablet?

I like nook hd + specs and i can get a 32gb for around 180 dollars i heard nook now has google play store if so, has anyone tried games like gta 3 vice city nova 3 real racing 3 etc high end games dead trigger on nook hd+ can this tablet be a gaming one?
Real Racing 3 is running better than on my iPad2
If you update with CM 10.1 and the new gpu drivers Verygreen posted, bigger YES. Especially if you like emulators. For the price, nothing touches it.
Games play fine and emulators like MAME play faster than on a Tegra 3 tablet (I have two to compare with).
This has become my main Android tablet over the Excite 7.7 and TF300.

where?. I have the Nabi 2 and the HD plus side by side. I see the debris on the Nabi 2 but I don't see the debris, on the HD Plus.
My guess is the HD will play games better than the HD+ since less than half the pixels to push. I have two Tegra 3 tablets (both 720P) to compare with and testing the TF700 that is 1080p.
NOVA, MC3 and 4 all appear to play similar on all tablets, but when things get real busy, the lower res tablets are smoother. Asphalt 7 is a good example of a game that chokes with the HD+ and the TF700. It is obvious both tablets are struggling with the 1080p. The game is not smooth on either the HD+ or TF700, but smooth as butter on the Excite 7.7 and TF300. The iPad 4 is even higher res than the HD+ and TF700, but plays A7 smooth as butter (it should, with the big accelerated GPU in it and A6X cpu cores). Not fair though, since Gameloft creates on iOS and ports to Android.
Game emulators though are a different story, since all play as good or better on the HD+ compared to the Tegra 3 720p tablets. Makes sense since the emulators are scaling to fill the screen and not really pushing 1080p via the GPU. Case in point, MAMEreloaded is actually smoother on the HD+ than my Tegra tablets.
One thing to keep in mind is that the HD+ appears to not like having less than 1 to 2GB of free storage and appears to get more laggy. I noticed this on stock 2.1 as well and with two different HD+ tablets.
All things considered with CM 10.1 and easy modding, the HD+ is a great tablet for the money- even if a few games play slower. The positives IMO far outweigh the few negatives- even as a gaming tablet.
Added: BTW, all gamepads I have tested work fine via bluetooth and response time is fine, even with arcade games in MAMEreloaded and NES.
I play mine craft at highest settings with no slow downs.

is this worth getting over the amazon fire tv?

I own a amazon firetv stick (late to the party) had it for a month or more seen the new model is coming out was about to buy the box this time as im loving using kodi on it, I would however like to use it as a android gaming machine eg make use of the sd card slot and usb ports I know it doesnt support the google play store, ive been sideloading apps on my fire tv stick.can the shield do the same eg use usb storage and sideload games that are not the android tv platform?
what would you reccomend as there is a big price gap between both, I know the shield comes with a controller but it doesnt include a remote and the fire tv includes a remote but no controller
I personally am glad that I bought this box. It's the most powerful Android box on the market and it might not be superseded for a long time, especially in terms of android gaming. The main issue for me with the Fire TV which I did consider was that it uses an non-mainline branch of android and is relatively heavily locked down.
On the other hand this box isn't without it's drawbacks, the price being the main one. It's aimed at casual gamers, yet the price for the 500 GB version is creeping close to that of full-sized consoles. I also personally do not like the Nvidia controller and have hacked it to use a PS4 controller.
Sideload apps is of course possible, but hit-and-miss when using a controller. The touchpad on the PS4 controller is especially useful here.
As for the lack of a remote, the Shield does have an IR port and I had falsely assumed that there would be some way of programming it to respond to any old IR remote. That doesn't seem to be the case, at least not yet.
In conclusion, if you have the money and are really only into casual/android games like me then the 16 GB model + SD card is a safe bet. However if you like to have a large selection of AAA games and you don't care about all the media and emulation capabilities of the Shield then you're better off spending a little extra on a console.
I bought the 16gb model and I'm not disappointed. I'm not really into native android gaming and have a fair selection of emulators installed but all the ROMS are no an external usb drive. If your streaming games via GRID or a PC then they take up zero space on your device. Having been spoiled by AAA PC games I find native android gaming underwhelming.
Something else worth noting about Nvidia GameStream: Don't make the mistake I made. I assumed that all modern Nvidia cards are GameStream capable and that simply isn't the case. It's still restricted only to the higher end GTX cards.
I love my Shield, I got the 16 GB model since I figured if I needed more storage I would use a MicroSD and USB HDD (which I currently do) but it not as easy to use compared to the 500 GB model. Mine bricked itself after an update and if I can't fix it I'm going to see if I can get the 500 GB model for an extra charge after I RMA the 16 GB or I may just buy it flat out.
I think the 500Gb model is only worth it if your going to install a load of android games. Even then after rooting and setting up Foldermount to map the Obb and data folders to the usb drive I haven't experienced any problems. The only thing I use the micro sd for now is capturing video. I just feel the $100 markup to the 500gb version is overpriced. It should have been $50 more and it would have been a no brainier.
I have a bunch of ROMs for old games on my external HDD currently (a few hundred GB worth) and I have a bunch of big games installed on my microSD.
so you need to root to install games on sd / usb
but what about the nvidia updates, can that affect the root? and brick the box
is there guide for this.. as i would like to put all my games ideally on an sd card 64gb or a 1tb usb external?
Flashed with full android 1.8 the shield become a emulating beast able to run anything you throw at it. It is a really great htpc/PC replacement.
And with link2sd you can move large games obb to sd.
