Great question! Download setcpu and setup profiles for when screen turns on and off.
I'm not sure if its related to the kernel because i have always had this issue and I have tried every kernel for N7.
That would happen to me too, don't use set CPU it doesn't work well with our devices apparently. What I would do is set the max and min frequencies all the way down and then to whatever I desired and it usually stuck.
If its as bad as my issue I actually had to rerun the root/unlock tool kit again to fix it. It happened on every kernel I tried.

try updating your busybox, or make sure its installed, if it isn't. use stericsons busybox app to install/update it. it could also be that your rom doesnt have the fix. the trinity kernel toolbox app has the fix, if your rom doesnt.

Hello all,
I just flashed this zip and so far the phone seems faster...
If I encounter any problems I will let you know...
PS: For those of you who are unsure which version to use on our device, it's the HDPI version
EDIT: I also think the problem with the softkeys backlight is fixed with this!
So i can only flash zip via recovery? No anymore?

As for the battery life, I really can't say anything yet.
But I'm using Aurora 4.1.1a too and the flashing process worked well.
It's nice to finally see something using the very cool aroma installer on our phone.

Well I've been using it since yesterday and I didn't notice any improvement in battery life but I was using the smartassV2 governor and I think this tweak was made to work with ondemand (please correct me if I'm saying something dumb).
Just changed to ondemand so let's see how it goes.

No i think you're right because i read ondemand governor aswell. Let's see if on demanda saves battery and we might not need to use smartassv2(we all know that if the freq is too low, when it wakes up from deep sleep it takes a while to load...)

Further investigating, the permissions in init.d folder are wrong, so scripts installed there aren't being run, we have to change them to not only read and write, but run too.
Second, SQLite scripts made Gmail, browser and music always crash, had to delete all those and restore data of those three apps with titanium...
Third, something messed up media scanner, now on sound settings, my sdcard ringtones don't appear anymore, even forcing a scan haven't worked yet, will wait a little more. Maybe it ways the sqlite scripts again, don't know. If that doesn't fix by itself, will restore a cwm backup and install the tweaks again without those sqlite ones to see if that's the problem.

All of the things. Assuming you already have root you should dl the standard stuff - Titanium Backup/Pro, ES File Explorer, XDA Pro , Voodoo OTA, Rom Toolbox, SuperSU (that's just what I prefer instead of just superuser), Terminal Emulator, and the like. Other than that it's all you. Whatever puts wind in your sails.

I just got a 32GB Nexus 7 also trying to decide what ROM to install lol. I love Scott's roms on my Infinity so I will try his first on this.
Running a stock rooted 16gb and using ROM toolbox Pro for Backup, ad blocker, launches nandroid backups, and more. SuperSu Pro for root. SwiftKey Tablet is amazing. Tablet talk is also really handy.
Nova Launcher and HD Widgets look very slick.
Don't forget about stick mount, I picked up a Samsung otg on Amazon. Speaker Boost also helps my earphones while watching movies on the plane.

Hi everybody! I am quite new so please show some understanding recently I rooted, unlocked boot loader and installed rasbeanjelly ROM and trinity kernel. After a couple of days using it I decided to install Franco kernel.. So I downloaded it and installed it (thought so). When I boot up my nexus 7 the boot animation was still from trinity kernel, so I installed it again but same results. Please help :/ I install the kernels with CWM touch. Thanks in advance
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
i installed mine with fastboot because as far as i know the kernel file was an .img file and not zip (which it has to be for using cwm).
but donot forget to wipe your davlik cache after installing the new kernel.
It's beacuse the Franco kernel doesn't have a boot animation but you can flash the file i added to this post.
There is both ways to install the kernel, also with .zip! I cannot post the link right now because I don't have posted 10 times but I can send it by pm . thanks though

Since PA uses the JWR kernel so just go to Franco's and download the r178 version (not the one with a JSS).
It says it doesnt break root so just to he sure go to Developer options then turn root on for ADB and Apps.
Flash the kernel in recovery and wipe Cache + Dalvik Cache and ur good to go

U can't change the settings of the kernel unless you have the kernel app made by franco. Its a paid app by Franco himself
U can also get a free one that does exactly the same though... Named as "Trickster MOD kernel" something.
Franco doesnt have OC/UC so you would need the color calibration (i think)
U can find all of them here... My best choice is the "Halfbreed" by "Molesarecoming"

U will only need the display calibration since the clock speeds governers are just stock. Stability is his only priority.
