Good Evening from the uk
earlier on today a bunch of devs managed to actually root this tablet using a modified version of gingerbreak
below is the walkthrough of how to root this device
1. make sure usb debugging is turned on and unknown sources is selected
2. have a micro sd card inserted and turn the tablet on portrait and lock it with the switch to fix it in portrait
3. download and execute the attached apk. (i had to download from my comp and transfer to the tablet for it to work)
4. once the apk is installed run the root procedure within the app which was installed
5. wait and you will receive full root access
Edit to add original dev and thread
A BIG BIG thank you to monki-magic who provided the modified apk and the original thread is

Fantastic job! I got my Iconia A500 rooted.
I could run the file without having to transfer from PC.
hmm it gave me a pharse error when i downloaded it straight to the tab
Beautiful!
Easy, easy, easy!
Thanks to the devs for making this happen so soon.
Loving my Acer A500 even more.
(Eee transformer? *yawn*)
Anyone working on building a cifs.ko? I'd love to be able to use cifsmanager to mount Windows drives and access them from any Android application (comic reader, movie player, etc.)??
Wow that's fast. I will try this tonight.
Many thnx for this.

Good luck with that, and the IPS on the transformer is not that great, kind of choppy for games. People are expecting an iPad2 style ips and it is NOT. The refresh rate is too low, the color is just a tad crisper then the Acer. Barely noticeable to the eye. Friend got his and sold it on ebay for the Acer, the USB was more important then the ips, and ips is great for graphic designers but gamers, not so much. Why do you think in every review people complained about choppy video... It because it is a cheap ips with a cheap refresh rate. Hence the price. Just my $0.02. Glad the Iconia got some love with their own section. It will be about June before you get one.
Thank you very much the root work perfectly , really appreciate your sharing.
Thanks....I´m going to try later and let you know how it worked!!!!
Let´s make this tablet work better!!!!
(waiting for Honeycomb update....)
donated $5 (more than i've spent on any app), thanks!
and... rooted! much easier than my desire... awesome job guys!
thank you very much!
freaking awesome!
so simple to root. downloaded from the tab and installed from it. no pc needed! awesome. installing rom manager now but no clockworkmod for this yet... only 1 acer device is listed... any brave people willing to try it?.. jejeje
Is that it?
Really?
Those five steps.
No preparation, nothing else needed.
Just turn on my device, follow those five steps and it's done.
Why do I feel like there's something I am missing here?
If it's five steps to root then I am dead impressed!
I just purchased a Motorola Xoom. I figured as everything I have read, it is the best tablet thus far, I should dive in. I started with a dell streak 5" phone/tablet, and then graduated to a Dell Streak 7" tablet, but the random reboots were killing me, not to mention Dells lack of support (if there ever really was some in the first place.
I've read about the new tegra quad core devices coming out soon, but figured it would be a year or so after they are introduced before the capabilities of that tablet could be fully utilized, and seeing the pages upon pages of support for an already well established device, the Xoom, here I am joining your ranks.
Tracking shows it is out for delivery so I'm giddy with excitement! I'm a true tech-hound, so I am pretty sure most of you understand what I'm saying.
Any suggestions right off the bat? I'd hate to dive in like every other tablet I've used and overlook something.
I also ordered the HD speaker dock. any thoughts on that as well?

Great choice and welcome! I love the Xoom and recommend you get a Team EOS ROM right away. If you're a flashoholic then grab the nightlies if not I would go with the 1.0. Don't you dare use Honeycomb!
I think the HD dock is awesome and has great quality and volume. Use it to watch movies and listen to music quite a bit.

The first thiing you will do upon opening it and connecting via WiFi will be the Android Honeycomb upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich. Go ahead and update that and then spend a couple of weeks with it, reading about the Xoom and its capabilities and customize it. Everything you need to know can be found right here. Enjoy your new Xoom!

Just got my tablet, and had to apply two different updates to it. after the 2d update & reboot, I'm showing:
Model Number: MZ604
Android version: 3.2
Firmware configuration version: GAS_ASIA_UCAHUBLWFRTIRD_P009
Kernal version: 2.6.36.3-00042-g3cta41e [email protected]#1
Build number: h.6.6-23
So, Amazon sold me an asian tablet that doesn't register for the ICS update? Am I reading this correctly?

If you plan to root your Xoom, it won't matter what version you have because all wifi-only Xooms have the same hardware. They are all wingray devices as far as I know, and can flash the Team EOS ICS wingray rom.
Tried this, but I can't even get clock work mod to install. I keep getting an error message saying device is still locked... looks like I have alot of reading to do to figure this out. I",m very familiar with fastboot & CWM, but a new device is a.always a news device. Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

You would have to do unlock first...
To do this you would need the fastboot drivers from motodev (don't just install drivers from moto, you need the motodev ones).
After you have the drivers and adb setup, then you can boot your device to the bootloader using adb reboot bootloader
then after your device entered the bootloader and your computer registered it, then type fastboot oem unlock on the adb
then follow on screen instructions on your tablet to get it unlocked.
Once unlocked you are ready to flash the trivial stuff.
I unlocked, installed CWM and rooted my WiFi Xoom using this tutorial. Can highly recommend it.
that´s true,
i unlocked my new xoom with universal root -> dev section
flashed CWM - and then flashed a lot of nightly´s
now i am on EOS 1.0 and it rocks!
Hooray! I found a post that explains how to change the OS to a US version here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1166106&highlight=mz604+unlock
I researched how to unlock the bootloader, and once done, I followed these instructions. It put me back to the original honeycomb, and then after 4 updates, I am now on the stock version of ICS.
I'm very excited!
I'm going to play with this to get used to it, but everywhere i read it seems that the ROM Team Eos ICS 1.0.0, is the way to go.
Can anyone tell me why?

EOS ICS Rom 1.0.0 is very stable and very full-featured. You will be blown away.
guys one question but it´s a little off topic:
would you recommend to buy the xoom or wait for the new quadcore tablets ( like asus or huawei ).
I mean the xoom is already one year old and costs about 380€ for the 3g version...
thanks in advance!

I thought about this exact situation extensively before I bought my Xoom (wingray) two weeks ago. My final selling point is that the Xoom is a year old, so all of the bugs have been worked out, multiple stable working ROM's are available, and it is updated with ICS! I realize there are newer tablets out there, with quad core processors, and I'm sure they are fantastic! But the Xoom is fantastic in & of itself! I may upgrade in another year or two, but the Xoom is an incredible device and I've tried multiple tablets, from the dell streak 5, 7 & iPad 2 to the kindle fire, and I love my xoom the most!

I would like to see this as well just went outside to my car and saw my ASUS Transformer TF101 glass and lcd screen got destroyed, guess the last time the back seats were folded down it did not survive.
If anything (without me researching it yet) is there any known root method that will work currently?
*edit* supposedly framaroot works, but would be nice to have some dev support.
Looking into Lenovo first as we just got signed up as a dealer for them and I can get good deals because of that, otherwise may look into another ASUS or a Nexus.

There's no support for multi user as it's been removed from this build which is a pain because my lads love playing games on it
My sony tablet did have that feature and i'm missing that.
I've it was rooted, you could turn that "standard" jelly bean feature back on from what I've read
We ha another here who would love to see a yoga forum on xda. I just got this puppy for my wife tonight and I must say that I am very impressed for what Lenovo has done with this and for such a great price! I am afraid I may be selling my nexus 7 to get myself one of these bad boys. Please, if anyone starts seeing a fire start with this please post it here. I will subscribe to this thread and hope for the best. Maybe we can get a dev one and let the miracles begin. If we all put in 10 bucks it would only take 22 people to pitch in and we could buy a dev a tablet. Just a thought....

I tried to enable the multi-user feature with Modaco Toolkit. It worked until I tried to log in to new user. I configure new account with lenovo wizard but when it try to starts it loops on 'first time start...' text. Additionally it gives 'device service' process hangups all the time.

I'm thinking of buying one, but the lack of multi-user is a big turn-off.

1, yeh id like to know why cant we just use a 32bit arch of Linux instead of patching the hell out of a 64bit arch
2. ive seen a Mod for the t100 keyboard dock to add a ssd hdd in it, question is will it work for the t100ta dock
as well?
I have a T100 but haven't seen anything on XDA dedicated to the device
I did find another forum but I think its against the rules to put up a link to it here
Its very similar to XDA and I have found a lot of good tips for the T100 there
so if anyone is interested hit me up with a PM and I will point you in the right direction
Ya I found a good dedicated sub forum on wp central so I'll have to register there

Is anyone else having a problem, where with the latest windows update, touch and mouse don't function as they should. It registers as if I was touching it on the left side of the screen, where the windows button is on the charm bar, even when I am not touching it there. This kind of renders the whole device unusuable.
Can't say myself. Just got mine today. Finally setup and charging. I noticed mine doesn't have the windows home logo bottom center like in all the videos I have seen. Anyone else have or don't have the false button? Everything else is correct..
