Note: thread title is not exactly true but to some extent.
I'm angered by Samsung release S3 LTE i9305 which made my current i9300 seem old and less advanced. I don't want to argue if 2GB RAM or LTE is necessary but it's obvious that i9305 is better version. Even the upcoming Note2 comes with 2GB RAM and better software (new gallery, etc) than S3. It's now a fact that S3 i9300 no longer the best phone of samsung after less than 4months...
One of the reason why I'm so angry is due to their sale tactics. I think samsung tactics and marketing are dirty. They seem to be very well planned and executed. Here's what they do in these few months in Singapore...
30 May: S3 16GB (White, Blue) launched at SGD$998.
28 July: This is when I got my S3
25 Aug: S3 32GB (White, Blue) launched at SGD$998. 16GB version reduced to SGD$898.
Why reduce the price of 16GB version?
1 Sept: S3 (Red) launched.
13 Sept: S3 LTE 16GB (White, Grey) announced with JB preloaded, coming end of Sept at SGD$998. JB coming to i9300 in Oct.
It's the same day as iPhone 5 keynote here in Singapore, samsung must have planned and decided to announce on this day. The price is same as i9300 first launch?! and we only getting JB in Oct, way after S3 LTE released?!
20 Sept: Market price check on S3 16GB, SGD$790. Resale value is pathetic
22 Sept: S3 (Brown) launch.
I felt that...
Samsung tricked us buying their best smartphone and then trolled us by releasing better variant/version.
They just to want get more sales without caring and benefiting us the early i9300 adopters.
What do you think?
My phone still works so I don't care.

You better be trolling, please tell me you are. Do you really think that any phone will stay number 1 of the production line for even a year these days? 6 months today and a phone is considered "old" by some people's standards.
There's no denying the i9300 is still an awesome phone, though!
There is always a new phone, why bother. If I wanted an iPhone Ive bouth an iPhone. Read as a new release twise a year...

I hate threads like this. Are you saying Samsung should sit on this new phone so you feel better? Technology moves along just below the speed of light and it can make your stomach queezy! If you can't handle it, don't play the game! Your phone still works exactley the same as the day you bought it!
Someone doesn't know how fast technology moves, if you want a phone, that will be the best the company has made for at least 1 year, buy an iPhone, things in the Android world move fast, and always will.
There has to be reason they decided to have 2GB RAM in the 4g enabled S3, I would expect it will be using over 1GB RAM out of the box, then you install things and it will go up fast.
4g and 2GB of RAM is all that makes it better than the I9300, yes its more technologically advanced because of the 4g, however when the I9300 was released it was still up in the air as to whether 4g (at least in UK) would be rolled out by EE, one complaint could have pushed it back so Samsung's this was Samsung's only option, I for one would hate them making a phone with a 4g chip in if EE's rollout was slowed down, it pushes the price up for no reason.
You wanted the latest and greatest as soon as it came out it's not Samsung's fault it's yours... get over it.
OP is a spoiled self entitled idiot. Technology advances quickly. Wake up. End of story.
What's stopping you from selling your sgs3 and buying the updated one? If you're locked into a 2 year contract then that's your own fault. When you signed that contract you will have already known you wouldn't upgrade for 2 years. Did you expect time to stand still for the next 24 months too?
I'm planning to sell my sgs3 and replace it with the note 2 unless something better is coming out soon. I'm not angry. I'm not even slightly annoyed. Get over it.
Of course they care about sales! They are a business!

Yes, I hope Samsung never release a better phone so mine will always be the best. I heard the SGS4 will be dual core and have 512mb ram..

I'm not stupid, I knew better phones were gonna come along while I own my i9300 but nothing's gonna be that much better in the space of 4 months.
So I'm not gonna be one of those who's obsessed with making sure people know I have the best phone all the time and buying something new every few months simply because it's better.
And I honestly think the S3 is so good that the S4 really is only gonna be a tiny step up and I'll be keeping this until 4G comes out on Three Mobile UK.

hopefully just a faulty batch
In 6 months, the OP'd be talking about the 2GB SIII like he's talking about this one now. Technology doesn't stop because you can't or refuse to keep up.
I want to discuss 2 things
1. Who wants to upgrade galaxy from S4 to note 3 and why?
2. If someone has already did this, what is perdonal experience? Whats improvement and is this upgrading really proved a good decision?

I'd never do that, because it's likely that the Note 3 will ship with Knox bootloader and no way to get rid of it. If all you plan to do is use the device as is, out of the box, then it's probably not an issue, but if that's the case, why are you here?
the note series are nice but theyre too big for me
Yes big size is also a concern for me too.
Knox is not an issue for me as I also not rooted s4 yet. Samsung has also begun ota updates of s4 which includes knox (discussed in many threads on xda)
Despite of changing model, any other feature of note 3 which one of us should think to upgrade s4 to note 3?
Sent from my GT-I9500 using Tapatalk 4
I rather upgrade to a Nexus 5 than a Note 3. I am not a fan of touchwiz and I don't need a s-pen for my phone. The size of Note 3 is too huge for me.
i feel note series is are very big my hands pained while talking on note 2.Not going for note again
I have an S4 now, but imo, the Note 2 was the best android device I've ever had (and I consider it the best device right now). The S4 kind of disappointed me, so I'll be trying the Z1 when it's available where I live.

I bought a Note 3 yesterday, gotta wait for delivery but I'm not gonna just throw away a good phone either. Knox is a worry but then the S4 is gonna get these new bootloaders sooner or later, especially if you ewant to update the firmware to the latest...
Samsung need to listen to these forums as a large amount of their custom is generated by us. Word of mouth is a powerful selling tool and to be honest I'm starting to think it might not be a good idea to upsell this brand if they go the way of Apple...
There have been a lot of put out people in the UK where the Note 3 seems to come with a region lock (even after they activate with regional sim it won't accept another country sim card), now sorted by Chainfire but requiring root thus giving you warranty void from Knox...
Thankfully I live in Australia. No region lock but that's a trade off with expense....
Here is another rumour. Galaxy S 5 may be launched in January 2014

I will probably not go with Note3 or S5. Because of many things I am hearing in last couple of months.
Samsung devices are great and I love my S4 but I could not use my phone in fear that Samsung will not respect warranty. Samsung is finding many different/new ways to void our warranty in flagship phones.
I personally do not care much for warranty for damages that I am responsible for. But if there is a manufacturing defect then I expect them to offer warranty regardless of rooted phone or not.

You are wrong, you have regional lock. My s4 at the beginning works fine with my irish sim card but after ugraded by OTA stopped working. I asked Samsung what is going on and I have been told that Samsung gives warranty only for Australia and Oceania Region warranty. It is my last Samsung mobile.
Knox is past. See this link

Not specifically HTC but choose any other manufacturer. They are doing better job than Samsung to keep their customers. Why does it has to be a company on top to start acting like a**hole and treat their customers like sh*t.
For a normal user like me, I don't understand what is the real benefit of having a flash counter in our phones or efuse or region lock. But these are pretty good excuses for Samsung to void our warranties. After going through faulty/broken AMOLED screen topic, I am afraid to put my S4 in jeans pocket. Usually I keep my phones in front jeans pocket (all previous phones) but now if I mistakenly put my S4 in pocket out of force of habit, I am like oh sh*t, I put phone in pocket again.
They should invest the time and money on quality control and better products, then such silly tricks.
Although I am hearing good things about Note 3 and S5, I am strongly considering to buy Nexus 5, Oppo or some other Chinese manufacturer.

Don't get me wrong, I am not happy with Samsung built quality as well, it is really not acceptable to use cheap plastic on a "flagship" phone. The glass seems too fragile and I am getting paranoid as well when the phone is in my pocket. Yeah, about the efuse? Looks like they are copying Motorola now.

You are mistaken about HTC. I have had my T-MOB HTC ONE-S since it came out over a year ago with no problems. It also runs the UI just as fast as the S4. Only way to notice a difference between YOUR 4S and my phone is in screen res and size, if you are a hardcore gamer then the ram, Metal vs. plastic, 8mp better camer UI vs 13mp. Beats audio vs. no audio enhancement. Sd card slot or no slot. Every thing is going cloud bassed so sd cards dont really mean nothing any more. So really the difference is minimal. Now since I have modded my phone its on par with your S4. I have a S4 its UI is built for a blind grandma I swear if you dont put a rom in it and touchwiz is flat out ugly an damn near useless. I let my mom use my S4. My Htc one S is what I carry Its the ideal size and thinness. Its all about the UI and size for most. Id pick a Sony Xperia z over any Samsung but I already got the stupid S4 Now for customer service call Dell, Motorola or Sprint then you will think different about Htc service. lol :victory:

Nicely Worded
I guess this is going to be the last hold up thread for KitKat since Samsung decided they could probably get more Americans to buy the billion new Galaxy Note devices they've launched instead of giving the original Note 10.1 a update.
< My N8013 is on Android 4.1.2 and has been that way since I got it April 2013 and it auto-updated from 4.0.
I am surprised how long its been since Samsung has updated this tablet. My previous tablet that was riddled with problems (ASUS Transformer Prime/Infinity) which is how I became a Samsung user, that tablet at least got Android 4.2 before ASUS moved on.
This is a lovely tablet. I hope the delay is due to Samsung giving us the best KitKat update, with all the apps that the current Galaxy Note 10.1 receives.
Maybe Tomorrow ... Likely Never

Nobody is sure that it will. Seems Samsung is updating 3g 4g devices and those sold by Carriers only.
I predict Samsung will Drop support for every device below there new S line in the near future.
Ive only had my note 10.1 lte just over a year. its a shame there isnt an update yet.
i'm fine with my N8013 running the KitKat build from the N8000 right now for the most part. The only thing that bothers me is that USB devices won't work properly on this build.
If Samsung ever will release KitKat for my N8013, I'll be glad to update, but until then, the XDA forums has done a nice job keeping the device relevant

Yes . but there is a Solid trend. The tablets they are updated are the ones that have data services or SOLD By Cell Carriers. the n8000 n8020.. they updated the g tab 3 Carrier Branded model number..
I also have a note 2 phone on 4.3 t- mobile. I suspect it will NOT Get another update. Thou like some on with the 10.1 there are some roms out there from the at-t Varient that works . But there is a twist and it could be the same with some people in here. There are random number of people who brick there phone flashing said roms when they follow the instructions exactly right. Has me a bit scared. Its suspected some of the note 2 t-mobile phones have a different board level components that is causing this.
anyway Sorry for my Ramblings
They are only Thoughts and nothing solid.
I dont know, i never would buy a carrier variant, and I dont have to because we dont have that kind of business here. What I have understood the carrier thing actually delays updates, because they need to build those differend kinds of variant firmwares that have to be tested and accepted by all parties.

There are numerous 4.4.2 ROMs for the n8000 dropping on sammobile.com, but not a single WiFi only variant. Wth.
Oh and the supposedly most up to date N7 hasn't been upgraded with 4.4.3 for the LTE version. Its the only N7 that hasn't received the update. Seems I always get the devices that the manufacturer releases and forgets.

Unlikely. Big corporations aren't run directly by top management like that. Unless we hear of a major shakeup that affects the tablet division, it's more likely that it's just delayed or deferred. What makes this so surreal is that the N8010 is essentially identical to the N8013, neither are 3G devices - so it's weird that the 8010 has been updated, but the 8013 hasn't.
Still if it never shows, you can always upgrade using the 8010 ROM, annoying as that is.

I have no idea where you are coming up with this, i'd argue the majority of tablets sold are in fact wifi only with most people tethering from their phone when they need internet on the go to avoid an additional monthly fee.

I am "coming up with this" from where I live, Hong Kong. No one buys WiFi only tablets here and no where to be found on sale, unless I go to eBay or resort to alternative ways to get one. Is that simple. And not to mention that the Snapdragon 800 is now an universal platform on HUNDREDS (let me correct that.. millions) of devices of all brands, shapes, sizes and forms worldwide, while the (specific) Exynos chip (and drastically comparatively underperforming) is used ONLY on a select number of Samsung devices. That's it.

Yes and no.
HongKong is a very specific area that has always worked a bit different from the rest of the market.
It is, in fact, the other way around. Globally more wifi only tablets are sold. There are hundreds of markets where the LTE edition doesnt even reach the shops. (Netherlands is one of them, and we're a first world country. I had to buy my p905 in Germany.)
Add to that the fact that the LTE editions are 100-200 quid more expensive. Which is much, on a device that is already severely overpriced. (the P900 is 800 euro.) (Every device is overpriced in Europe.)
Most people tether. Many providers don't offer multiSIM, and they thus require a double subscription, with all the fees that go with it.
Now the fact that Snapdragon is much more popular is true.
The NotePro is the only Samsung device for which there is more developement for the Exynos than the Snapdragon. All other devices have the very clear 'You want developement, buy the Snapdragon' rule. But not the Note Pro.
And I can't figure out why, because the Exynos one is weaker, unstable and suffers from serious problems.

Thanks for the reply. I agree with you and understand. Its a shame Samsung continues with this stupid lifeline of making different models of the same product line with the different chips.. would be so much easier making all Snapdragon or all Exynos no matter if its the WiFi, 3G or LTE. Anyway.. it is rumored they will launch a larger (around 13") tablet soon to compete with the future larger Ipad/new MacBook Air/Surface. I hope its a one chip ONLY machine no matter the configuration, though probably not and we will have to deal with more variants again. I gotta tell you I am not a person that likes upgrades and can live perfectly with a older OS version as long as my apps work on the device.. CM 10 or 11 all good for me. But after trying lollipop on a friend's new phone, I have to admit its a major upgrade and Google did a really good job. At this point I dont even want to look back past having a unit with a future CM 12 on it
And you are also right on Hong Kong being a special market. The fact is here LTE is cheap as hell and everyone just uses it even more than WiFi. 3G is totally a thing of the past and so incredibly cheap if you want one is almost laughable.. in a good way. Unlimited 4G plans here are very inexpensive and mainstream. And indeed, as overpriced as the 12.2 Tab already is (most Samsung devices actually, reason for which their sales are plunging and other brands are taking over) the truth is when someone has the cash for the Tab, its not a few bucks more between the WiFi and the LTE that makes or breaks the purchase decision. There are almost NO MORE 3G units available for sale anywhere of any type of device and as prices keep falling for LTE plans and the price gap between WiFi and LTE units narrows, I think in the near future almost all devices are simply all LTE.. just as a few years ago 3G was an option and Bluetooth a luxury.. hell, I remember the first laptops with WiFi adapters built-in just 15 years ago and that was groundbreaking. I think devices without LTE radios built-in soon will be a thing of the past. In fact many devices sold here already are LTE-A compatible though few carriers still have that

I'll tell you. First, there are almost no developers having Snapdragon version of NP. Why would they develop for device they don't have? Also this poll tells somehing about devices people here on XDA uses ----> Exynos dominates. So again, they develop for devices they and other users got.

Got it! Well, I'm very happy to live in a part of the world, where everyone can afford unlimited LTE and have it for the price of a double expresso coffee in the other parts of the world where wifi "dominates". That's all I can say
Don't know what to say. No Samsung adds nor nothing from Samsung on TV ad's . Friends don't even Know what this phone is. Still love it.

Idk if I'd call this a prototype, seeing as anyone can purchase one. A limit quantity phone yes but not prototype.
Also I think Samsung put all the marketing into the note 4 and s5 because they know those phones would sell to the public a lot better.
Ya, I agree with above. This phone is in the consumer market with more iterations to come. I would say this device is WAY past the prototype stage now.
When samsung first showed off their Youm display with both rounded edges couple of years ago, now that's prototype.

You can already see that at CES 2013 2 years ago Samsung pretty much had a working Note Edge prototype already and not much has changed since then and you can directly see the design in the current note edge.
But yes, innovation unfortunately costs extra and some of it will go towards funding the next big thing as well so I think the price is more than justified.
Hardly anyone who sees my Edge has ever heard of it...and every one has said they want one afterwards.
My daughters friends went nuts over mine when the saw it and I said maybe 5 years from now apple will catch up and do the same
