[GUIDE] BOOTANIMATION LOOP? Look here. - Acer Iconia A500

I just finished helping recovering another tablet from an animation bootloop and I figured it might be a good idea to start a thread and share what we've figured out with the community.
If my tablet was bootlooping and I didn't really want to do a whole lot of crazy steps I'd try installing from update.zip before doing all of this. There's plenty of information about that around. But if you find that for whatever reason the stock recovery is totally borked or whatever this method should help.
First. You have to know that this will wipe your tablet. So hopefully you've got backup. Also we need to hope that you have you SBK. If not there is a little on that later. This should work on any A500 with any bootloader. Also I didn't include much about installing from update.zips or how to recover your U.I.D. from your sd card. Those are covered in detail in other threads and are easy to find.
Also. If you have a functioning recovery you do not need this guide. At all.

Hello!
I was about to unroot and get back to stock with my A500 so I flashed a stock ROM via CWM to get a ota-update. Before i had a custom ICS ROM installed and now I installed a HC stock ROM. The problem is that i forgot to go through the wipe menu in CWM before the flash and now when I start up my tablet I first see the ACER logo as usual, then a android text-logo which the tablet is stuck at. I've waited 20 minutes and is still shows the same thing. The logo has an animation which i still can see. I've tried to restart the tablet and get into CWM again without succes.
I have read different threads for several hours but I can't find my problem. What should I do? :crying:

Here is a brief overview.
What you are trying to do is get into recovery, wipe properly and flash your stock rom. You are going to...
Get the tablet into APX mode.
Use Blackthund3rs APX tool with bundle number 17 and flash it.
Once it flashes and you restart immediately go into recovery.
Don't let the tablet boot or it will instantly erase the recovery that we just installed.
Ok. First get blackthund3rs tool fired up. There is an attachment at the end for this.

Choose Bundle Market. and say yes to this...
Hit the View Bundles Tab.
Choose bundle number 17.
Choose to stage the download for flash.
Once it is finished with this...
It will ask for your SBK.
Choose to use the default BCT.
From here follow the onscreen directions for the manual method to enter APX.
Now this is the key to the whole process.
When the tablet reboots you must be holding the volume down button so that it enters directly into CWM.
If you miss it and you see the bootanimation, it will be too late and you will have to start all over.
So when you get to the PASS screen. and you power it off. Don't forget to be holding that volume button when it restarts automatically.
After that it should be as easy and entering the wipe menus, then flash your rom.
I've done this one at least three different tablets and it works everytime.
Good Luck. Please let me know if I can help with any of this.

Ok. In the state that your tablet is in getting the serial number (U.I.D./SBK) will be difficult at best unless we get lucky. It is normally pretty easy to find when the tablet has USB debugging enabled. With a new install of a stock rom there is zero chance that your tablet has that enabled.
Soooo...
Hopefully when you've had your tablet connected to your pc it saved the U.I.D. or serial. Or you have a Nandroid backup or some other CWM log. You can find the serials on the sd card for those easily enough. The serial can then be changed into the sbk easily.
If you don't have any of those and you have had your tablet connected to your pc at one time or another, you can try this...
Go to this webpage http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html and scroll way way down to near the bottom and get the program. It is called USBDeview.
Once it downloads extract the whole zip to your desktop. It should be in a folder and have three files inside.
Open the file USBDeview and then first thing choose the options tab/button and uncheck "Display Devices Without Port/Serial Number".
Then make it sort by Description by clicking the words at the header of the list that says " Description". Finally look for an entry about A500, or Acer Iconia A500. Hopefully you see those. Look in the columns to the right and find the column titled "Serial Number". There may be multiple entries. But you can be sure that the one that you need will have 16 digits.
If that doesn't show any results, do this. Sort by "VendorID" ( 1 ). Then look for "VendorID" 0502 that has "ProductID" 3325 ( 2 ). It should show A500 or Acer Iconia A500 ( 3 ) Look in the serial number column if you match those IDs. It will be your serial number/U.I.D. (Thanks to sc2k for sharing this!)
If you do find the number then you are home free.
What you will do now is convert your serial/U.I.D. to an SBK. You can go here and download the program to your pc. Run it and enter your serial number.
If not then there is quite a bit of work ahead. But don't give up. It can still be fixed. And as an added bonus you'll get to play around in Linux...
That thread is here. srbeen posted a great guide and there isn't much that I can add that would help.

Once you've completed his guide you should be ready for just about anything. Maybe even world domination. Good Luck.

Nice job with screenshots.
Remember, there is a difference between "bootloop" and "boot animation loop".
Bootloop, is when the device tries to enter the OS, and boots back to the bootloader and original sequence. Over and over.
Boot animation loop, is where the animation continues to loop, is usually caused by bad data that didn't get wiped. Can also be caused by a bad kernel.
Stuck at the Acer screen, is a different matter.
3 different animals. 3 different solutions.
However, any person who puts together a guide, should deserve looking at. The steps are sound and I am sure they will help some users.
Thanks!

But a good job, and I am sure, it will help others!
And we welcome all guides that help with these things.
Oh, more to your thing, Boot loop. or boot animation, can also be caused by running an ICS rom, on an HC bootloader. Which is more inline with your guide.
Again, good job Mate.

Appreciate the comments, especially when they help keep things clear.
I've never been good at seeing all of the angles, so I'm glad your proofing it for me.
So no worries. And Thanks!
But I've been thinking about it, and this might be a good place to start when repairing any of the issues mentioned. If nothing else it is a near foolproof way to get into a working recovery, albeit with a custom ICS bootloader. But that's pretty easy to get past as well if stock bootloader/rom is what's desired.
So basically, if a working recovery is the goal, it should help.

[Tutorial] How To Restore Verizon Galaxy Tab Back To Stock

If you are here the odds are you are looking to take your Verzion Galaxy Tab back to the default setup for one reason or another.
Here are the steps you will need to take.
First let's make sure you have all the files and things are set up for this.
Hemdall
Download Heimdall from HERE, this is the program you are going to use to flash the needed files to your Galaxy Tab. I am putting the version I use on my sever just in case.
But here is a link to the developers page so you can download the original if you want.
http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/
You will also need *Microsoft C++ This also needs installed on your machine because it has .dll files Heimdall uses. (I use Windows 7 and did not need to install this [I think])
Now you will need to install the drivers the is also needed for Heimdall. unzip heimdall and go into the drivers folder where you will see zadig.exe. Run this.
At the top you see options. Click "list all devices"
Then in the dropdown select Android USB composite device (or whatever it says). (NOT*mass*storage)
Click start and let heimdall download/install the drivers.
Files You Are Going To Flash To Your Tab
HERE is where you *are going to download the files needed to flash to you tab.* There are four files in total.
DOWNLOAD
cache.rfs
param.lfs
system.rfs
zImage
Ok, Let's get to flashing over the files and getting your tab back to normal.
1: Connect your tab to your PC
2: Launch your tab into download as it is already connected to your PC.*(Do this by holding the volume down and pushing the power button)
3: Go in to the folder " heimdall" and start " heimdall-frontend.exe"
4: Set up the files you are about to flash to the tab in side of heimdall.* It should look something like this.
THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART!!!!!! DO NOT SCREW THIS UP - -* I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE!!
DO NOT EVER EVER EVER PUT ANYTHING IN ANY OTHER LOCATION. THESE ARE THE ONLY FILES YOU NEED.
zImage goes in both the Kernel AND Recovery slot.
system.rfs goes in Factoryfs
Param.lfs goes in Param.lfs
cache goes in the cache slot.

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
5: After you have the files in place click start to flash. ALWAYS make sure your battery is sufficiently charged or you will have MAJOR problems. (I had to push start a few times.)
After this runs you will more than likely boot loop. Power down, wait a few seconds and hold power and up volume to boot into recovery.*(NOTE, do not hold power too long, just long enough to turn it on, then continue holding up volume till you see recovery. WIPE DATA AND CACHE. Tab should boot.
Note, if heimdall fails at the very beginning, just try unplugging and turning off the tab, close, and relaunch heimdall. it will eventually start. sometimes you just need the right combo of plugging in launching the*program.
After this is should be just like you took it out of the box, other than still having root access.
Hope this helps!
Aslo, I did not do any of the work here other than test it out and retype what is on this site to make it available to those on XDA and if you read my blog.

I tried to make sure I typed it as good as I could so people like me (mess things up often) would be able to pull it off and host all files I use so that nothing will change.
But I would like someone to look it over and make sure I did not miss something. We are all human after all.
And if there needs to be any other images people can think of to help more people out I will be more than happy to add them.
I cannot find ANY tuts like this for flashing roms, recovery, ect. You, my newfound friend, are the first. We need more exactly like this.

This is great stuff. I messed up a bunch of junk on my VZ galaxy tab and would like to go back to stock. Question about this guide: I've converted to ext4. Can I still follow the steps in this tutorial to return to stock or is there anything else that I need to do first? Thanks very much!

Took the plunge anyway. Seems to have worked. Great tutorial!
Had previously used Koush's bootstrapper from the market to convert the file systems to ext4. Later tried to install KhasMek Voodoo Plus v3 kernel on my VZW tab and it nuked it (prob cause I did something wrong). Using these instructions, I got back to stock. Now to boot strap again and try, try again!
Thanks for the guide

Yeah, I think I get it wrong more than I get it right.
Last weekend I did this like 3 times in an hour.
Happy it is helping a few people out.

No, I tried a few times and did not have any luck. The only thing I am looking to customize with the Tab is really to have it over clocked a little.
I just got the Evo so after I am done setting that up and getting everything worked out I am going to try again.
But if I remember right when ever I run Koush's boot strapper the tab reboots and goes in to recover mode and starts to flash something. (I think, cant seem to remember 100% right now) . Then I get stuck on the Samsung screen..
At that point I am not able to boot back in to recovery mode to wipe anything, but I can boot in to download mode and restore the Tab.
I think I have to be missing something simple?
Got the bootstrapper from the market to work again on my VZW Galaxy Tab. Formatted the SD card and then tried it again...it worked great after that!

VZW Custom Kernel
So out of curiosity, is the Bootstrapper the only way to get a custom recovery set up for the Verizon tab? I used z4root and got the root access, but since then, I haven't had an opportunity to flash roms or kernels because of the lack of a custom recovery. Anybody think they could help ?

[Q] Enter your password?

so one day i turn on my tablet running lightspeed 1.0.7 and it asks me for a password. I thought it was my little brother playing a joke on me so i just factory reset it using CWM...... it boots up and asks me for a password AGAIN, after the factory reset. So i wiped all data, formatted evereything possible, and reflashed the ROM. AND IT STILL ASKS FOR A PASSWORD!!!! what gives? how do i fix this?
EDIT: I have used cwm to restore a backup of the stock ROM and it still asks for a password..... what the heck is this? PLEASE help
where is asking you for the password at..
Did you encrypt your tablet.
i think at the password screen keep trying and it will eventually ask for your google account information.. then let you in... .
if not my only thoughts is you will have to flash a total Stock decryped acer rom. one that updates the bootloader . as a few of the major updates have done..
but im guessing from my memory of people asking this in the past...
you will not get alot of help bypassing a password on here .. as to be honest who really knows if its your tablet or not...
that is why the google account verification is there..
no i didnt encrypt it.... its asking for the password when it boots up. I have seen a few threads on other forums with people that have xooms and transformers having the same issue.
Ok, so in that case, what do i need to do to be able to send this tablet to Acer? i am (was) rooted and i have thor's recovery installed. Is there a way to undo the stuff that voids the warranty?
and where can i find one of those full stock acer roms that update the bootloader? i guess one of those is worth a shot
ok so I tried to go back to stock using the unbrick method 2 here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1276227
and no luck. still asks for a password
and I also called Acer and they told me I will most likely be without my tablet for 2-3 WEEKS! and also Acer does not provide a box or pay for shipping for warranty repairs? really? I would really like a solution, if anyone can help me, please do. thank you

Thanks Timmy, I'll try this as soon as i get home to my sister's computer. hopefully it works!
ok so i am about to try this, but step one is to turn on USB debugging, what if i cant get to the setting menu to turn debugging on?
EDIT: so it seems that I will not be able to use this method because the software upgrade utility isnt able to recognize the tablet, because usb debugging is not enabled, and i can not enable it because the tablet is asking me for a password. i am stuck
any other solutions?
EDIT2: It is actually the computer that is not able to recognize the tablet. the drivers install, but when i connect the tablet via USB, it says the device drivers could not be installed
Not sure if this is what I experienced. My daughter's new A500 did an OTA update which apparently did not complete correctly. Tried to reboot after but would not. Did some browsing on this site and others and tried some things but no luck. Finally got various versions of update.zip and put them on an SD and did the power and volume - combo. I think after the first one I got the little android guy and the enter your password screen. Searched on a resolution to that but nothing. After a couple of more update.zip tries I got a version of 3.01 and ran that. Still got the android guy with the enter your password screen. Wanted to avoid returning it to K-mart where I got it new on Thanksgiving for $219. I knew they didn't have a replacement in stock and wouldn't be able to get another one for that price. Then I did the power and volume + combo with rocking the screen orientation toggle 2 times to reset the cache/data. Success - no password screen! It rebooted and went into the tablet setup process. I am not sure if it was that particular update.zip. I am thinking if I had did the clear the cache thingy after loading the initial update.zip it would have been ok. So my daughter's tablet has 3.01 on it now and seems to working fine. I am tempted to try a later release just to get to 3.1 but I don't want to risk horking it up. I haven't seen any notices for an OTA from Acer so that surprises me.
This is the password screen I'm talking about. Is that what happened to you?

This will fix your issue (hopefully):
FACTORY RESET WITHOUT LOGON
ACER A500
1. Power Down
2. Make sure the Screen orientation is off (slide to left while landscape mode)
3. Hold down the right volume key (Volume up (+)).
4. Hold down the Power Button.
5. When it buzzes let go of the power but keep hold of the volume up button (+)
rock the screen orientation switch quickly back and forth once.
6. Should say :
Erasing Userdata....
Erasing Cache...

If this does NOT work then you will have to flash it using your USB Serial number and a paperclip. You use the paperclip and power button to put the tablet into fastboot, then you can flash it. Guarantee you it works, you just need your serial number.
TimmyDean, thank you for your response. I left town for about four days so when i get back home i will try those things.
Also, you mentioned using a paperclip and flashing it from fastboot using my serial number.... is that the same method you linked me to before? if not, is there a thread with instructions on how to do that? thanks for your help, man.

hold volume down button while booting up, then hold volume up after fastboot is selected to activate it.
after that, you use fastboot commands on your computer.
But I was using the automatic unlocker . I still need to put in commands myself?

I believe the automatic unlocker will pause and should give clear instructions ask you to do specific things that have to be done by a human (power down and reboot into certain mode, etc), you just need to follow these instructions. After that, you just hit enter to continue.
If you are unable to follow these instructions, probably it's too much for you...
To reboot into fastboot, for example: press the power button, to turn off the phone; then hold the volume down button, press the power button again, you'll see "Fastboot", then release volume down, press volume up, you enter the "fastboot" mode
Too much for me lol I know how to get to all the menus that its telling me to go to but nothing else happens. the guide said nothing about typing in anything which is why I choose it. Especially since the automatic root worked easy as pie ...

You want help, laugh when people who are trying to help say it might be too much for you, yet you provide us close to absolute no information.
What guide are you following? We might know, but it still is your job to provide a link.
What is the step you are stuck at?
Why, what isn't going according to plan? What do you see happening in your sceen / phone?
If you can't explain properly, provide some screenshots.
You say you can get to all the menus it tells you to, yet in the first step you can't seem to get into fastboot. Your speech is unclear and what you want is hard to understand.
My opinion is you aren't ready to unlock your bootloader. You know very little about your phone or how it works. That's the community's fault really, with all these automatic scripts, which are really nice if you know what you're doing, but end up promoting easy ignorance in people like you.
I just hope in a month or two you are not one of those writing "OMG, please, I arrempted to downgrade by SBF and know my phone won't boot, what gives???"
Read up on some information a learn how these things work. It is the best you can do. Owning an android device and modding it can be great fun, but it does require some effort on your part. If I were you, I would learn how to unlock my bootloader with pudding, just to understand what is actuallly going on.
Either that, or you can learn how to ask for help properly and politely. Your choice.
Also, wrong section, This is not Q&A.

As you can see like I can see it does not say I need to type anything in the cmd (which I have seen in YouTube videos and isn't that hard) but thought hey automatic sounds good so I gave it a try I don't have any problems getting the phone to fast boot or rsd as I've used the stock recovery to clear cache in an attempt to fix something. The part I'm stuck at is step 6
You are right I don't know alot about android which is why I didn't start messing with my phone the day I got it but I've been all over this site (well the atrix at least) and YouTube.
I appreciate any help and sorry for the misplaced thread

So, let's see if I got this, you are having trouble at the part it says it should restart? Or before that? After you choose the number and press enter, what happens?
This could be a driver problem... If windows is not recognizing a device, it's common... Which windows are you using? I used to have some problems on XP and vista...

Right where it says it should restart and go into fastboot nothing happens I could hold that power button all day. I knew vista would bring an issue into the mix cause it never made the sound for connecting the phone but the SD cards show up

I actually had to use a Vista system to get this to work.
Now, when the instructions say it should "Restart", at that point, have you been in "Fastboot" yet? Have you been to the part where you have to enter your "Unique ID"?
This is important to know because throughout the bootloader-unlocking process the phone should be restarted a couple of times. It sounds like you have at least gotten through the part where it flashes "Pudding" but it sounds like you haven't done the "fastboot" part yet.
Are you referring to "Step 6" in the actual post or within the script? If the power button does not work then just pull the battery. As long as it is not in the process of doing something you should be fine.
I also want to point out that the program you are using only requires that you type in your Unique ID, everything else is automated, not to mention the file contains everything you need including adb, fastboot, RSDlite, Superuser, Pudding, and a working recovery so it makes it very easy for the end user to not have to find everything on their own. The script unlocks the bootloader, roots your phone, and flashes CWM recovery.
Either way, please provide more details if you are still having issues. Good luck.

I wasn't blaming vista I was just saying cause I've had problem with that is in the past.
I've basically done nothing haven't flashed or wiped my phone yet I was basically stuck at or around the first step cause it first asks for RSD protocol and then it says restart phone but the power button has no effect why in that mode nd when I pull the battery to manually put it in fast boot nothing happens nd I get some kind of batch error when it trays to get my unique id...
But got the computer back today so I'm gonna work on it again
Thanx for help ... will update you guys when I can

Actually, I followed the method you linked (old netbook running XP) and got a softbrick on the automatic reboot after flashing pudding. I was so busy watching RSD Lite do its thing that I didn't catch that my phone had actually rebooted; it selected fastboot mode on its own so I was able to issue the unlock command. It took.
"7.Plug your device into your computer. RSD Lite should recognize your device and say “Model: NS Flash Olympus” and “Connected…” The acronym 'NS' may be different for your device people!!"
its not doing this(i have rsdlite 4.5.5 because i cant find 5.5)
edit: got on to next problem
Thanks everyone

Editing bootloader / kernel image

Hi there.
I have a rooted Acer iconia a500 running android 4.0.4
This information is off the about tablet screen under settings.
Kernel version:
3.1.10-digetx-thor-4.6
[email protected]) )
#411 SMP PREEEMPT Mon Jun 11 23:56:23 EEST 2012
CyanogerMod Version:
Tegraowners ICS ROM v170 (thor & digetx)
Build number:
full_a500-userdebug 4.0.4 IMM76L eng.thor2002ro.20120612.10401.8 test keys
This information is off the recovery screen.
CWM Recovery v5.5.0.x(thor2002ro/digetx rev1.7.3) Iconia A50x
Kernel:
3.1.10-digetx-thor-4.4micro
Bootloader: 0.03.14-MUL
What I am wanting to do now is change the kernel image that shows up as soon as you turn the tablet on. (NOT the boot animation - I have disabled this)
Have got the acer usb driver installed on PC (windows 7) and can see the tablet fine.
Any help would be mint.
Thanks :good:
You can't do anything but contacting the kernel developers and ask them for changing the kernel image for you. However, I doubt they'll do that. You are using their kernel for free, which is presumably the best available for the A500; to my opinion, it is a matter of politeness to accept that they want to document the use of their kernel by means of a kernel image, which is visible only during boot up.
WIth best regards, maris
You want to change the kernel name on boot?
Sorry, but I have to think about this.
Are you referring to the Skirlx_CZ bootloader?

The 1st screen you see is all green and only lasts for about 2 seconds with text at top that says Skrillax_CZ's Bootloader V8. Booting primary kernel image. I will keep that, Its the 2nd image that shows up for about 20 seconds before the lock screen shows up.
Here is a photo of the screen I want to change. Would like a Acer logo or Android logo there.

Get the ramdisk seperated of the zImage . And look into the ramdisk , probably you find the image there. But how to do that , read and learn as I don't want to write the whole thing up.
@bluezone09..... Not 100% that this is what you are wanting but if you look at Post #5 by "jdgM3NT4L" at the attached link, it might help you out.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1753097
Thanks both of you. will read it up and give it a go.
Will let you know how I get on. :good:
Go doing that tut on that link and got to the part dump your BCT in blackthund3r and I get a popup Microsoft.net Framework Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Contine. the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediatly. Cound not find 'bct.dec'.
Any ideas about this?
Thanks
Dont worry I sorted it. I didnt have debugging enabled on tablet.
Ok finished the tut on that link all went fine. This is my new screen.
But still getting this screen popping up after the one I just edited.
Any ideas?
Thank again for the help.
Also here is a screenshot of my setup at moment.
@bluezone09..... Glad you were able to achieve what you have done. At the risk of putting some people's noses out of joint and without pointing fingers at anyone ... If you have followed the TUT faithfully (and from what you have published it seems you have) then I would suggest your one remaining problem is a result of using the Tegraowners ICS rom. I installed Skrylax's v.8 unlocked ICS bootloader then flashed Civato's "Flexreaper RF1" rom and have had no problems installing several different "boot screens". Several people on the forum who I have spoken to using various ICS custom roms (excluding thor's ICS rom) have also had no problems after following the TUTORIAL. Seems to me you may have to live with it or flash a new rom.
Thanks metpolds.
Is this the right one? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1517181
Download this? http://www.theandroidcollective.org/civato/FLEXREAPER-RELIX_rev5.zip
Still wanting to have the overclocking options in settings like I have at moment.
This is what you want. It's a superb bootanimation thread started by metpolds.
Returning the [email protected] at the same time too, priceless.
Be sure to browse through the thread. There are a ton of really sweet ones. And...
Don't forget to hit the thanks button when you get there. Those guys have invested some serious time making that thread as great as it is.
Thats for boot animations. I have disabled mine under settings/system/performance Disable boot animation for fast boot.
If I enable it I get the cyanogemon9 blue man animation. Like this. Loads slower to.
@bluezone09..... Your last two posts raise a number of questions and I apologise in advance if my answers seem overly lengthy and convoluted but I tried to make them understandable so as not to raise further questions in your mind.
(1) The first rom reference you quote (Civato's "Flexreaper RF1") is the one I am currently using and I find it does everything I want, by default it overclocks to 1.2 Ghz. Now if you wish to overclock further then my advice is somewhat suspect because I am not in any way an expert on overclocking... but I believe you have a choice of either installing the app "SetCPU" or if you use thor's recovery then there is an option in the recovery for overclocking. If you read what Civato has written in the rom thread I believe he makes comments and suggestions regarding overclocking his roms.
(2) The second rom reference refers to Civato's "Relix" rom which basically seems a variation of his RF1 rom and is stripped of many "bloated" features. Your web reference refers to "theandroidcollective.org" site which is probably great however I prefer to use Civato's own XDA thread in the Development Section. Again in the thread there are suggestions re overclocking etc.
(3) Just a reminder... if you are still using a HC bootloader then replace it with an ICS bootloader before flashing a new rom.
(4) A lot is written about bootanimations delaying or holding up the boot time. I personally don't believe this to be true or at least if it happens at all it is only a delay of 1 or 2 seconds at most. This I have proved to my own satisfaction by running a big animation with several parts and finding that the "start/boot screen" will display even though the animation is still running, it stops the animation without waiting for it to end and the tab boots. You mention using "settings/system/performance" to kill your animation... of course you can do this but I prefer to delete the file "bootanimation.zip" from either ... /data/local...OR... /system/media. Of course instead of deleting it you can rename it "oldbootanimation.zip" or something similar and put in your own animation.
(5) Not to teach you how to suck eggs but remember to rename any animation to bootanimation.zip (exact wording) and place it in either... /data/local... OR... /system/media
(6) "jdgM3NT4L" kindly refers you to my thread in the "Themes and Apps" section. If you look there for possible anims you might like, may I suggest you start at the last page and work backward in that way you will see the most recent offerings that have been posted. "jdgM3NT4L" is too modest to blow his own trumpet but if you look at Page 45 Post #441 you will see an anim he posted with a "Star Wars" theme which is really cool.
Please note that I have never flashed thor's roms so I can't guarantee that all I have said above will apply to his work.

VS980 TWRP bootloop after botched lollipop OTA while rooted like a dummy

So yeah. As the title says I had a rooted VS980 on 4.4.2 with some bloat removed and I accidently hit the wrong button when prompted for the upgrade, I was in a hurry. yes, I'm a moron, and yes, I know this is probably wasting someone's valuable time and I thoroughly apologize for my n00bishness
having said that, I have tried to go through various tuts but none of them seem to be working. yes, it's likely that I am simply doing it wrong, but whatever the case I am stuck with my phone in a bootloop always returning to the TWRP recovery. I believe that means it is soft bricked so I'm hoping this can be fixed fairly easily with the right direction and some patience for my ignorance. I can't seem to get it into download mode with turning it off, holding the volume+ button and plugging it in, it just goes to twrp. :'(
my hope is to get a rooted lollipop. if that is not possible then I would be fine with going back to stock or possibly even a custom rom if it's not too awfully complicated. honestly, I'm at a point where I'm beginning to accept that I probably shouldn't be screwing around with it too much and will likely bite the bullet and just keep my phone stock since there are really only a few minor irritants that make me want to root it.
any help is very much appreciated.

actually, it doesn't look to be the same problem. i dont have download mode, but i do have recovery. it boots to twrp like a champ. what i think i really need is how to get the flash file VS98011A_01.zip on my phone via ADB Sideload, specifically when i cant get the drivers to work.
i've tried the following drivers:
LG_VZW_United_WHQL_v2.14.1.exe
LG_VZW_United_WHQL_v2.20.0.exe
LGUnitedMobileDriver_S50MAN310AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3.10.1_3.10.1.0
I may very well be mistaken about what needs to happen, i'm no expert, obviously, but from everything ive read any of those should have worked. i think if i can get the right flash on the phone i should be able to flash it via twrp no?
I"ll help

i just happened to have a brand new data cable, tried again with same result so its not media related unless there is an issue with the plug itself, but it's charging and the Device manager shows the correct name ie VS980, it just has a yellow bang on it and i cant find a driver that changes that.
read some more and found others with the same issue apparently which led me to here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2715408
which is where i found the "download mode restore" file you mentioned(i didnt see it in the thread you provided), but without the ability to get adb usb command to work i dont see how i can use it.
any ideas?

from here:

rebooted, went straight to twrp again.
installed
Restore to 100% stock
from the same page.
rebooted. it went into an upgrade screen that errored and then rebooted before i got a chance to write down the error. but when it came back up, it started "android is upgrading".
so it looks like this may have worked. again, will update the success/failure when i know for sure, but thanks for the help yall. i really do appreciate it.

Yep, now another problem though. ..no mobile data. .. working on it.
I'd suggest flashing the files in post 12 (I didn't and am having TONS of problems)
So I really didn't get a fix- still working on it.
I have no download mode, and not way to get the serial port to display in device manager, so the LG Mobile support tool won't see my phone....
