.......because i sold it for $700, thats way more than i can sell my nexus one for.....so that has to mean its a better phone. hahahahah!!!
the iphone 4 is a good phone, but its not the nexus one. I love to tinker with the settings and to be able to just change every thing on the phone. Which the iphone doesnt offer. Im not tied down to what itunes will give me as far as updates.
Its also nice to be able to download an OS update and be able to actually update it while im sitting at work with no wifi and no computers in sight.
Im not an iphone hater, but given the choice to keep one phone, i decided to keep the n1 and get a little bit of pocket change on the side, i think its a win-win for me! Used it good for a whole week, and it felt so much just like my old 3gs. But the design is what won me over, i love the industrial look and it has a solid feel to it.
But i still cant believe i sold my iphone for that much. Its not like I had to work hard to get the iphone too. 2 hours max in line and i was on my merry way with the phone.
anybody else bought an iphone 4 and sold it?
No but you damn well better believe I'm going to be the first one preordering to do just that the next WWDC/announcement. Haven't done any stock trading with apple since the first iphone when I bought call options before the announcement.. cause after that it wasn't a sure thing IMO on a price move. This sounds easier than trying to get that trade right. Plus I get to mess around with it a week? Awesome.
I'm keeping my iPhone 4 it still is an excellent iPod. My main driver is my Nexus one.
Just because you mention the Nexus One doesn't mean this should go in this forum.. Meh.
very funny post. Judging from the thread subject, I clicked on it to watch the flaming. I will probably never own an iPhone myself. I am sick of paying big money for contracts and went the prepaid route. I picked the android Motorola i1 - the latest from boost mobile. I'm very happy with it. Now if only it could get its own forums on xda...
Iphonie Sux Nexus Rocks
Exactly my thoughts...
I´m waiting for my contract to run out...then I plan to threat Vodafone to jump into Vomit-Star and their Iphone4, they will react offering me the same phone at a better price...I will sold it, then pick another Nexus for my Girl, and keep the rest of money in pocket.
Bah, I'm just waiting for iPhone 4 in Australia, I wish it'd be released here soon...
There are several Nexus One vs iPhone threads already in this forum, please use the search function and do not start a new thread. Also if you are asking a question then direct it to the N1 Q&A Forum, not here - as already stated in the stickies.

So I bought a Nexus S yesterday, earlier today I noticed a co worker of mine had a Nexus 1, I know of them, I mean I've seen them but I never actually held one; I was blown away by the build quality and the trackball is awesome as well. After playing with his phone I started hitting up craigslist to see if I could find one and was seriously considering returning my Nexus S.
I think I'm gonna keep the Nexus S after all but god damn, I'm just shocked that the Nexus S is the Nexus S, I mean, you would think that after the Nexus 1, the phone replacing it would at least have that same style of build quality. oh well, I still like the NS non the less.
I'm sure you can understand why so many of us chose not to upgrade, eh? The Nexus S is a nice handset if you didn't already have a Nexus One...it just isn't a big enough step up for us though.

Nexus s is great. You get a better touch sensor and a faster gpu.
I played with one in store. I have my N1 running the latest CM7 gingerbread. So I setup my desktop matching the NS.
The screen is a Tad nicer but overall I didn't see much to warrant my dough.

haha no sucking up here, just gotta pay respect when its due; I mean lets be honest, the Nexus S IS better than the Nexus One, even if the specs are slightly better, with its slightly better screen, higher quality screen, front facing camera, etc. etc. the only thing I feel the S falls short on is the build quality, its nothing bad but its like with the iPhone, I liked the build quality better on the first gen iphone then the 3G or 3GS.
Unless Palm announces something crazy (Palm fanboy here) I'll probably just stick with the Nexus S, I also have a Droid Pro so I think I should be set for a while.

Now you see why many of us love the nexus one so much! CPU and specs aside, the nexus one hardware, build quality, color track ball for any notification you want, materials, size and package, its unmatched even by any current phone out there today! This phone is literally a work of art.
Throw in the car dock and desk dock, it can't be beat. Damn I wish Google went with HTC for the next nexus phone.

I know it just blows my mind that th folks at Google carried around an HTC N1 for almost a year and then decided that the Nexus S made by Samsung was the way to go...it really does blow my mind every time I think about it. Who in their right mind would make that choice?? I'm still bitter about it...feel as if I was robbed out of an upgrade. Forced to make a choice of crappy build quality with better internals or stick with older internals with better build quality. I'd still like to know what asshole at Google made us face that choice.

It make sense to me at least for Google to keep its various manufacturers happy by spreading the Nexus love. I guess we will have to see who the next Nexus is made by: Motorola? LG?

I hadn't thought about it in awhile and it kinda hit me again there reading this thread.
I can understand wanting to spread the manufacturer love but Google should have told Samsung that if they wanted the Nexus "2", then they could have it, PROVIDED they built it nicer than their usual crap. Google should have kept a higher standard for the Nexus line and they let Samsung kinda cheapen it in my book.
It's one thing to spread the love and it's another to tell Samsung here are the internals we want and oh you can wrap those internals in whatever you want. I almost think us users are prouder of the N1 than Google, who seemed to give up on it like a step child when it didn't sell as well as they would have liked. Hell we users BEGGED Google to advertise the damn thing....but no, they run a search ad during the Super Bowl LESS THAN A MONTH after the Nexus launched...what kind of sense did that make?? Like Google needed a search ad during the Super Bowl...everyone already uses Google search for god's sake!!!
What is up with Samsung and plastic? I know that they have one phone made of metal, but plastic gets so fingerprint prone.

I hope it is by Motorola, providing that they don't have a locked bootloader. They actually put dual noise canceling mics on their phone (Droid X), which is probably one of the most important thing on a smartphone.

I think that samsung phones build quality is in general cheap, but lets be honest, they can make phones with nice specs, and then there's those qualcomm chipsets that HTC put in the their phones, they're just awful, which kinda makes you consider buying samsung phones.
This is the exact reason I'm still using my N1 - normally I upgrade as soon as the next best phone is out, but the Nexus is just perfect. The build quality is amazing compared to any samsung phones.
And seriously, I'd miss the trackball too much.
With that said, I have a Galaxy Tab - and think thats great, but I don't carry that with me every day so the cheap plastic doesnt annoy me as much

The snapdragon, even first gen, is not too shabby at all, and it beats the hummingbird in a lot of CPU tests. The advantage of hummingbird is the graphics. In fact, I think the nexus one was better at scrolling smoothly over the nexus s in most cases because graphics was not yet enabled on the S. CPU vs CPU the snapdragon seemed to out perform it imo.

Well, to be honest I never used a the nexus s, here in Brasil is too expensive to get new devices, I used only the galaxy s, which I think is basically the same device, only in a different housing, and it was pretty fast. I used a Nexus One too, but obviously the roms were different (even though both were using cooked froyo roms) and I know experience may vary, but the galaxy s seemed much faster.

I'm sorry, but I can't agree with you about that MotoNexus crap. Only US of A can be happy with Motorola customer service and update policy... Ever heared of the Milestone? Yeah, Droid with GSM... Today it can only run stock 2.1 krenel because of MotoPLCY and locked bootloader. Rest of the world is so fcuking tired of hearing their craptalk that they would never buy a Moto device again! Well, Nexus phones are not ONLY American phones.
Also I actually don't like the idea of releasing Nexus devices by different manufacturer each year.. It just doesn't make sense for me. Google is a company not different from others, they count each dollar when it comes to spending money. N1 was a good compromise between cheap and technically good, htc made it that way as they did with desire. So... What's the point? Even if Mofofaila would bulid another Nexus (NX? They seem to like that letter) what would be nest? LG? ok, and then?
P.S. If anything what i wrote is unclear, tell me. It can happen, because english is not my native langueage
EDIT: BUT I agree about those dual mics. They do make a difference for me too!
+1 for dual mics
The call sound quality on the N1 and the Droid X are what attracted me to those two phones. In my opinion, it's a MUST HAVE feature and the single biggest reason I haven't bought a Nexus S.

Depends on your definition of "soon".
As of right now it looks like it will be released around November.
If you want a cynic's opinion, here it is: The Nexus S was old-hat before it was even released. The only benefit was the ease of unlocking and getting updates first, which sounds awesome until you realize that the initial versions of GB were massively buggy. I'd expect the same for ICS. Add to that the fact that HTC is making it so you can easily unlock all of their phones and the list of reasons why I would want one gets much, much shorter. Non-existent, in fact. I'm actively looking for a way to get my hands on a device with hardware that wasn't dated before the first model rolled off the line or wasn't succeeded months later by a phone with a key feature the original was lacking for a more than sub-par carrier. I've said it before, but to save you the trouble of reading it somewhere else, I should have learned my lesson about buying Samsung phones after the Epic 4g debacle but I didn't. I have now and I'll advise anyone against buying their POS devices.

When did I say it did? Never? Yeah that's the answer to that. See there are things called 'lists' where you mention many things that are all related to one other topic but are not necessarily related to each other. Like a grocery list. See cereal and baby spinach are not related to each other but they are both things I need from the grocery store. Just like GB being buggy and my hatred for the way Samsung treats its customers are both reasons why I wouldn't want another nexus device but they are not related to each other. Does basic sentence structure make sense now?

I think he was confused (as was I) by the fact that your conclusion didn't really follow from your argument. You complained about the phone being outdated and you complained about gingerbread being buggy and then you ended by concluding that you shouldn't have bought a Samsung phone. But everything you complained of was Google's doing.

I just picked up an i9020t Nexus S knowing full well that the Nexus Prime is coming. You know why?
Refined Galaxy S hardware
Comfortable rounded edges (looking at you, captivate)
Great ROM support, with ICS on the horizon
Respectable battery life
Pretty freaking fast
So yeah, the phone's hardware is dated. However, the Nexus S is my favorite size and shape, and OC'ed to 1.2ghz with some speed hacks from different places, I can't even imagine wanting for more speed. Now, this is all my opinion, but you can land a Nexus S now for a reasonable price. So get one and have several happy months of hacking!

Hi,
I'm a big Samsung fan, i've had the S1, S2 and currently own the S3..at the moment i'm running cyanogenmod 10.1 and after a few initial misgivings about it's lack of features compared to a sammy touchwiz rom ... i'm really starting to like the aosp feel and look..
Now after a year of owning the S3 i'm getting a bit restless and feel like a change.. the nexus 4 is the phone that's intriguing me most. So I have a really simple question, is it a sensible move to the 4 from the S3.
Carl.
Yes only if non removable battery or SD card is not a problem which I personally don't mind and the camera won't to better but around the same and no lte then I'd say go for it , it does give you a bang for your buck especially with development I use P.A which is awesome
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
The main pros of the Nexus 4 that I keep listing anytime I tell people about it are the following:
1. Price. $350 is pretty much half the price of any other competitor to the Nexus 4
2. Pure Android, updated directly from Google. As soon as a new version of Android is released, it's on the Nexus. Google develops Android FOR this device.
3. Design. Glass front and back, it's a solid phone. Looks sleek.
Now, newly-released phones do have slightly better hardware. But we're getting to the point of diminishing returns. We're packing so much hardware into these devices, you'll hard-pressed to find software that actually makes use of it. I think the only debate you should be having is buy the Nexus 4 now, or wait until the next Nexus comes out, possible during the holidays. That isn't to say this phone won't still be a solid phone then, but I can understand if some people wait to buy updated versions.
To answer your question: yes. It is definitely worth it. At $350, it's fiscally irresponsible NOT to buy a Nexus 4. Right now I'm paying $30/mo for a tablet plan on AT&T with 3gb of data. Having weird and crazy options like that don't seem to happen with other phones. I feel like the Nexus 4 is YOUR phone, not 80% your phone, 20% the manufacturer's.
Spoiler alert: I might be a little biased, but c'mon. It's a sweet phone.
No, don't buy a N4. You obviously can't be bothered to research and figure out if this phone is worth it or not. You definitely aren't going to do any other research when you attempt to Root, Rom, and Mod......Buy a different phone and clutter their forums.:silly:

Before I read everyone else's post I want to say I came from the gs3 had gs2. I would do it again in a heart beat. However it's not a super huge upgrade like it was from gs1 to gs2 or even gs2 to gs3. The software is where I enjoyed the phone the most.
I loved my screen on my gs2 and gs3 on this I wasn't impressed until I got used to it. Now I feel samsung screens have to much pop in the colors
Hope this made sense

Well the guy is trying to get perspective from people who actually own the device and use it day to day which is much different than reading any review from someone who might be biased in one way or another.
Maybe the op could have used a different subject or maybe asked what everyone thinks of the phone from actual owners.

Not in love with the Nexus 4. Have had it since January when it replaced my SGS2 (T989). I really appreciated not having to search for the least buggy ROM, as the stock was nice but at this point I'm dissatisfied with the Camera, which seems to produce mostly mediocre pictures (sadly, and since my other devices and cameras produce better ones, I'm afraid it's not (usually) operator error); the screen, whose color palate I don't love and whose auto-brightness is chronically dim (which can of course be mostly remedied by not using auto-brightness, though wish I could), and lastly the touch sensitivity, which I may try to adress now—I understand there are fixes. Nevertheless, I'm gonna see what T-Mobile will sell me a SGS4 for...

I don't understand what people want out of cameras. Like i've never looked back at a picture on my htc and said this looks like a blurry mess. Are memories being ruined?
As far as switching, I know I left HTC and bought a samsung galaxy 3. I hated that phone. I ended up back with HTC. Made another mistake in buying a galaxy note 5 due to the size. In less than 8 months I was back with HTC when the HTC Ten was released. This is just my experience, but I always find myself coming back to HTC. I would be lying if I didn't say the future isn't looking all that great for the company though. I'm sad about what phone I will have to moved to once they get out of the market.
