AOKP For U8800
About:
AOKP For U8800 features Rom Control which allows you to customize the phone with many different options.
Features:
3.0.8 Kernel running at 1ghz default
Some GAPPS
Known Bugs:
Rom Control randomly brakes stoping you from changing anything. (Possibility of this happening is very low)
Weather option in Rom Control doesn't work.
Performance option in Rom Control doesn't set the frequency so download no frills or set cpu from the play store.
Stock camera and camcorder apps don't work (removed from rom) so download a camera app from the play store.
Can't detect devices or send files with bluetooth but can pair with a device trying to pair with you and also receive files over bluetooth.
Auto brightness doesn't work.
Battery stats are messed up '% but i have fixed this for next release but i want to fix a few more things first.
Superuser sometimes spams a toast notification saying "root has been granted superuser access", but I will make sure I fix this for the next release, but till then just reboot the phone. (turns out this is a problem with superuser.apk so they released a fix on the play store, so just search superuser and there should be a fix)
Powering on the phone can lower the battery percentage show but I am pretty sure this is just a visual bug not a batter drain.

Is that background in the menus, that space image, default in AOKP? the a.imagine is nice, but as a background for menus it's pretty awful... ruins the looks for me. Any way to change that? Is that image in framework-res?

I would fix it and it is in the framework-res but i can't figure out which one it is so if you can figure out which one it is send me the the modified framework-res
+1 For reverting to original black(?) background.
i've not tried the rom yet but to change the background goto res>drawable-nodpi in framework and change background_holo_dark, that is how it normally is.

ahhhhhhh that makes more sense for some reason i didn't check in there lol but ill put it back to the normal image and also does anyone know where .cpp files are in a compiled rom because thats what i need to fix to get bluetooth working and also i need to know where the sensor files are to get proximity sensor working. Thanks in advance if you do.

Ok thanks ill change it for the next release which should be released this week if i can find where the sensor files are stored or bluetooth .cpp files are but if i cant fix these problems ill just release the next version as it improves battery life slightly and stability has been improved slightly.

You can do it yourself, use root explorer, go to system/usr/keylayout/qwerty.kl
Open it and edit key 217 from SEARCH to POWER (write exactly), then save and reboot, it will work! Remember to mount r/w system with your root explorer, if not it wont save!

Is there something I can install without installing the full Cyanogenmod rom? Has anyone put together a package just for customizing the trackball or is this not possible without Cyanogenmod?
Thanks.

you mean similar to blackberry when a you can customize a sms, mms, calls, emails, IM, calendar events, and many more items will change colors you set? i tried to find something but didnt look hard enough. i used green for sms, purple for mms, blue for phone calls, light blue for emails, disco (rainbow) for google talk, and white for missed calls on my blackberry. i hope to find something later on because i have a long list of things to add to my phone haha.
Trackball alert may be what you could try.
thanks. i also forgot to say that after exploring my nexus weeks later i found out that mms and sms and google talk and gmail can be have custome ringtone because in settings i only found notification for all and ringtone so i figured each app couldnt have its own sound but i found it in the actuall settings for each app. i think i saw the trackball pulse on most also. took me a while to find it.

The only way to customize the trackball colors is to take the plunge and root! Think about it for a while...
As jerrycycle mentioned, it is via Trackball Alert. Here are some screenshots I took:

I've actually already installed Cyanogenmod before but went back to stock because my battery was acting funny. The trackball customizations is the one thing I miss from it right now. That's why I'm wondering if there's a standalone mod I can install just for trackball customizations.

Ohh, I read the description wrong. It says OR Cyanogenmod. Either way, it still requires a custom rom before using it. I'd like to use the stock rom and use a trackball enhancement on top of it.

Yes, rooted. I don't get any errors. I can open it up, change the settings (what apps I want to use it for and what colors, intervals etc) but there's a "Test Notification" button in each setting and when I click on it the trackball never lights up. And it clearly states when I first open the app that the stock Google roms do not work.

Damn, that sucks.
If Cyanogen was giving you issues, try out MCR (Modaco's non-desire ROM).
In answer to your original question, no, I don't think there is a way without a custom ROM.
Honestly, if I could just find an app that decreased the trackball flashing interval to somnething like 1 second on, 1 second off that would be great. I liked being able to look down at my phone and know right away if I have a notification because Cyanogenmod would make it flash really fast. Not so much with the stock rom.

I had posted this under development but figured that's probably more for roms and maybe better suited here. So apologies for the double post.
I like the HTC Dialer (find contact pictures load quicker than on the stock android contacts app), but the haptic feedback annoys the hell out of me.
So I took a look at how JsChiSurf disabled haptic feedback in the Hero's HTC Dialer app (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=660506). Turns out it was pretty easy to port the same changes over to the HTC Dialer that comes with the Desire.
I've tested this on my Desire running Leedroid 2.2a and it works like a charm. Obviously I offer no guarantees, and make sure you have a nandroid backup to restore to just in case.
Just install the attached zip from recovery.
Nice, i will try it.

why not just turn it off in the options? sorry but i can't see what your trying to achieve ???

then you shouldn't get the vibration.
the option under keyboard controls the vibration for that separately..

Ok you've either misunderstood me or not tried this yourself.
The HTC Dialer gives haptic feedback when you press each number on the pad. This cannot be disabled from settings.

Where? I've disabled all vibration/haptic options under those settings and the dialler still vibrates.

No I thought he meant maybe 'diablous' is right and it's a user configurable option.
Either way, it's made the thread very confusing so if diablous or TieT reckon there is a way to turn it off without flashing the zip I wish they'd just say how to do it or admit they were wrong.
It's not a user configurable option. You have to flash this zip. There is an option to turn off haptic feedback but it does not affect dialer.
I've been using this only one day, and what a change! With an average of 110 outgoing calls, dialer eats 20% of my battery. Multiply by 3 vibrations per call - how much battery did I just save? A LOT! Thanks, again, it feels like a new phone altogether.
Thanks for clearing it up kumprise, I wish people wouldn't post if they don't know what they are talking about, I wasted about 10 minutes going through options thinking I was going mad.
Now flashed the zip, thanks very much z0mbi!

Well with many updated to 2.1 why not post few tips ...
here is mine
1.) We often over look at the network setting after update .. atleast i forgot to look into it .. i mean the phone by default will be using both GSM /WCDMA after update ,so change to GSM or accordingly.. as it will save loads of battery
2.) Do a restart after update , as it is said that phone is much faster after the initial restart and also a battery removal for a minute or so can also help..[not sure]
3.)Put your phone in full charge after the update... as the update and other proceess would have ate the battery and life may not reflect perfectly .. so do a full recharge and see the battery life
4.)Use Extended widget for auto-brightness feature
5.)I am not sure , but unless its important app , i would ask u guys to do a frsh install of apps
6.) Instead of 5 home screen , if u guys are ok with 3 , i would suggest you guys to use 3 as it might not eat too much memory ...
7.) Experiment with live wallpapers .. some might consume a load of CPU , some might not.. so balance between speed and design/UI
if you guys have any other suggestion .. please post..

After update my suggestion do a complete default load and think that you got a new phone and start all over again. U will love ur phone again in no time (did it my self no problems what so ever).
ya with all syncing done over internet.. all we need is login and pulling stuffs from net
Well, for me is easier to install apps using the computer
1. install appbrain
2. install fast web installer
3. search apps on app brain and press install.
You don't have to open the market app ... ever
app brain is best with fast web installer which comes along..
what is and where do i find "extended widget"?

1. Use ADW Launcher by anderweb. And clean your stock launcher. It much smoother.
2. Use ADW custom shortcut->adw activity->gallery to load hidden 3d gallery. Use the same method but choose music to choose music player hidden app.

This is a simple script for ClockWorkRecovery that removes the HTC Sense LockScreen files so you can use the stock android lockscreen.

What alarm issues are you talking about? My alarm works just fine. I would recommend using root explorer, going into system/app folder and renaming htclockscreen.apk to htclockscreen.apk.bak and checking it out for yourself. You can always change it back if you have issues

The posts made on the first page made it sound like the alarm was going off randomly/couldn't be turned off.

Hi guys this is THE GT-I9100 DISCUSSION THREAD for the Team BRIDGE's rom : ThinkingBridge
So please post here all non-dev related problems
You can get the rom from the official thread
I will try the rom then tell you about my opinion
I am currently giving your rom a try .
After a few minutes I found one thing that is really annoying (i already tried to change the behavior of the hardware key)..When i open a chat window (ex. whatsapp), the screen timeout (15 sec) comes and i click the homebutton ...the app is closing. Is there any way to disable that?
At the moment i also have a lot of batterydrain.. mh...(after the 1 charge)

The app is not closing you just sent it to work in background . Just hold the home button and you'll see the app in recents view. And change the interval of screen timeout for at least 1 min.
About battery drain change the governor of the kernel.
Install from playstore Nofrills cpu to change the governor as conservative .
You'll not notice any lag in games or apps .

why didn't you say so ...
1.lock the phone
2.turn the phone on
3.on the lockscreen swype the screen from the left to the right until you see a plus in a grey rectangular
4.press it you'll see a list of widgets from there choose what widgets you want
and about the 2g toggle maybe that's the way he does like that .
i really don't know how to help you with that
Thanks. I got it. Climate on lockscren!!!!

After I finally got this rom downloaded took hours. I have to say I'm very impressed with it so far. It's extremely smooth and quick. Only thing I noticed is I struggle to get a lock with gps. Using gps test app it's seeing 8-9 satellites but not locking to them. I only had quick try so I will try later
thanks dev's keep it up

I can't fix in screen options the notification light in on. When I close the setting screen and I open again the notification light is in off. ¿How can I fix it?
Thanks

I just went to test gps again just before I was gonna use that app to make sure it's not working.
It locked this time. Perhaps I didn't give it enough time before.
Apologies
